Dr. Gabe Allen has a rule about dating colleagues but when he meets ER nurse Larissa Brockman he's tempted to break his vow. Larissa's faith draws him back to the church he'd left behind, but when their lives are on the line Gabe discovers that Larissa is the one who needs to learn about the true meaning of forgiveness. And only Gabe can help heal her heart.
This was a quick read. Finished the book in a couple of hours. While the plot was less than profound, it dealt with relevant topics, specifically domestic physical abuse and forgiveness.
There was only one statement that gave me pause. It was something to the effect that the main character said she understood why God wanted us to forgive our enemies. Because we have God’s love and they don't. Unless I misunderstood what the author was trying to express, there's a problem here I find difficult to release. God, in fact, loves ALL of us so much in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
I realize that this story is fiction. But I believe God's Truth should always prevail in them.
Other than my concern expressed above, this was a good story.
This was an enjoyable read. Although very short, I thought the story was great. The characters, Larissa and Gabe were great. I loved that Larissa was a Christian. She believed in her faith through all the circumstances that she had been through. Gabe is a doctor, and I thought it was great to see him get back his faith. Their romance was sweet, and I really enjoyed the chemistry between them. The ending was sweet, and my favourite part of the book. Overall, a great read.
Hi im Larissa a nurse at the little hospital and then the town people and other come here to get taken care of i am in er base and then one of our patient come in i think it abuse but the poor older lady said it her being clumsy and then you have to now we do this when we get old.

This is a important type of info in the book if you are getting hurt buy someone don't wait do it you never know who will listen to you
Let me start by telling you that this was my most interesting & motivational read of 2020...I'm glad i accidentally found this book in elibrary... This story is mainly revolving around relevant topics between two medical personnel,Larrissa & Gabe, specially their insecurities & fear to fall in love again due to their individual dark past..Author also deals with a most known fact in our society, domestic physical abuse & forgiveness... Larrissa, a ER nurse in the Hope Country Hospital ,had been running away from her past..Bt when she met second time with Annie Hunkle & convinced that this woman was being physically abused by her husband, dark memories from the past threatened to overwhelm Larrissa & she fought them back with an effort..She Couldn't forget her & her mother's being physically tortured by Gorge & Rolland which made her frightened for further commitment ..Bt,She had a secret feelings for her colleague,Dr.Gabe Allen... Dr.Gabe,a smart & hard working eligible bachelor, went through a hilarious past with his fellow colleague, nurse Rebecca in Madison..& for this reason he also maintained a safe distance in his new work place,Hope Country Hospital.. He also felt something for Larrissa bt couldn’t convince himself to express his feelings towards her due to his previous dark memories.. The romance between them was blooming slowly when they intentionally /unintentionally was passing their time with each other specially when they were facing Annie's domestic physical abusive case together..They realized they were in same pain & only helped themselves by forgiving those persons who were the reason of their pain... The most important thing that i've learned : 🔹If anyone makes one bad decision in life,Will she have to live with that one bad decision forever?Maybe it is time for forgiving herself! Because whenever u stand praying, if u have anything against anyone, forgive him, that ur father in heaven may also forgive u ur trespasses...🍁 I am drowning the cuteness of the gem of the book..This was so good that i can't even handle it..😇
This book was a very good short read. It was very clean but you could feel how the characters felt about each other. It reminded me of watching Greys Anatomy in away.
What I liked: - Discussion of domestic abuse with grace given to the recipients of the abuse. - It wasn't a perfect story, by any means.
What I did not like: - Workplace romance is generally not a great idea. It worked out alright in the end, but I was wary while reading the book. - He kissed her way too early and completely caught her off guard. While she did kiss him back, that should not have happened. - The following quote: "I think I can see now why God asks us to forgive our enemies. Because He knows that we have His love and they don't. And really, what more could we ask for?" John 3:16 says "God so loved the world" which includes both us and our enemies. Maybe the quote is referring to the fact that non-Christians do not know how much God loves them or have fellowship with God, but more elaboration would be needed to make this point.
Healing Her Heart is a story about two healthcare professionals who fall in love.
The story began with a boom and captured my attention, but the rest of the story fell flat until the plot crescendo arrived.
I felt that the story would have been better told as a novel rather than a novella. The characters didn't have time to be properly portrayed, so their personalities seemed a little too cookie cutter.
All in all, the theme of the story was good, and I believe it will be enjoyed by people who like a clean read. I hope to read more by Ms. Scott in the future.
I enjoyed these characters so much that I would have loved a full novel instead of the quick novella. Substantial storyline dealing with abuse in addition to values of trust, forgiveness and faith in God. The relationship developed a little too fast to be believable, hence the 4 stars instead of five. However, it is well written and easy to read.
I received a free copy of this book from a Bookfunnel giveaway to introduce interested readers to new series by offering the first in the series. It did not require a review and this is my honest opinion.
Looking forward to reading the rest of this series. (So I guess the giveaway worked!)
CW: Domestic Abuse 'Healing Her Heart' is a relatively short story about two doctors, Gabe and Larissa. Gabe is insistent of not getting into workplace relationships but he cannot help but fall for his colleague Larissa. When a patient comes in, clearly a victim of Domestic Abuse, Larissa is quick to try and help her, having once been in her position. As Gabe falls even more for Larissa, she realises that he is the only one that is able to heal her heart. This story is about 60 pages long, so a very quick read, but I think that it could have been longer. In all honestly, it was better than I thought it was going to be. 3 Stars
Dr. Gabe Allen works with ER nurse Larissa Brockman at Hope County Hospital. Allen and Larissa treat patient Annie for a broken wrist which she says was an accident, but Allen and Larissa can see that her injury was caused by abuse. Allen doesn’t date colleagues because he was burned before. Allen wants to date Larissa but he has trust issues. Larissa was injured by a motorcyclist while walking home from work and Allen came to her rescue and aided her in her healing. Larissa and Allen put their faith in God to help guide them in their romantic relationship. I really enjoyed this heartwarming short-story Christian romance novella.
This book was decent for a super short story. I feel it is more of a filler type book that you read in between books. I didn't care for the rush of love of the main characters. This doctor didn't want to date any co workers because of an issue from his last relationship at a different hospital and then they go out on their first date and they tell each other that they love one another. I mean, you can feel something that fast but usually it's called lust. I think this book could have been a bit longer but it was decent.
Healing Her Heart is a short story at best. I haven't read the rest of the books in this series but I feel like author Laura Scott left too much to the reader's imagination at best. Larissa is an ER nurse who has feelings for Gabe, a doctor at the hospital. The pair find they share a Christian base and both have suffered in past relationships. Giving faith to their church and God helps each of them to find a path to each other in this Christian romance. I'd like to see this author expand her research and storylines to come up with a fine full fledged romance.
4 stars I purchased the short story Healing Her Heart: Crystal Lake Series book 1 by Laura Scott and this review was given freely. Both with broken pasts, ER Nurse Larissa and ER Pysician Gabe fight attaction while taking care of patients during the Memorial Day Weekend. A Faith filled Christian sweet romance with sinister undertones featuring different facets of domestic abuse.
Great short story about a nurse and a doctor, new to Crystal Lake, Wisconsin. They both have been running from a past bad experience. They join together to help an abused women and find an attraction. Ms. Scott describes the town very well. I visited Crystal Lake in my teens. The story went at a fast pace and was very exciting and showed compassion.
This was a very good book. Short, but sweet and to the point. I prefer books with a little .more depth to them, but I guess the author meant for this to be an introduction to her characters in the series. It was still a great book and I enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more of the authors books!!!
Larisa and Gabe are very intellectual professional medical personnel because I know the amount of courage and wisdom it would take to think and understand the hidden thoughts of Annie.
I'm still reading your book and I'll give one more 5 stars when I'm done. I just need to take a break for now for personal reasons.
Medical industry setting where the main characters treat patients and have a reluctant interest in each other. There is an encouraged Christian association that surrounds the characters’ mindset in their times of need. The plot is outrageous; the characters are meant to apply their teachings in that unlawful situation.
I definitely didn't want to set the book down. The characters were very realistic. The plot moved quickly. I am looking forward to reading more of this author's work.
This was a fun and romantic story. The characters are bright and have very good emotional depth. They learn from their past mistakes, but may be a little too cautious. It is well written and entertaining.
Larissa Brockman he's tempted to break his vow. Larissa's faith draws him back to the church he'd left behind, but when their lives are on the line Gabe discovers that Larissa is the one who needs to learn about the true meaning of forgiveness.
Excellent, clean Christian Romance. The book is delightful reading. The story tells of a real christian's caring, when bad things happen. it also shows how God can heal us from things that have hurt us, when we bring the matter to him. I enjoyed every minute of this story.
As this book deals with many difficult topics including drugs, sexual misconduct and abortion, it was a challenging read. Too much of a "feel good" ending. I may continue to book 2 to see if this author deepens the plots or carrys along with the same style of writing.
I prefer books with suspense, but otherwise it was a good clean read. I think Gabe and Larissa are for each other. The author shows the internal conflicts of each character and through the trauma at the hospital and outside with the issue of an abuse woman that hit close to home for Larissa.
This book is really good. The storyline is great & well written. Larissa & Gabe work together & are a great couple. There is drama & keeps you on the edge of your seat. You need the next book to see what happens. I can't to read the next one
This was a good book, with a little excitement. There really wasn’t much to it and it was a super quick read. I was disappointed that it ended so soon.
