Freesia's first volume has a very stoic, edgy ("mature" is too much a credit of a word) and try-hard hallucinatory feel. Art adds to the tone well sometimes — sketchy. Not sure if I'll continue.

This is a review for the entire series.

Freesia is a dark manga set in a war ridden world where you can legally take revenge by use of a revenge proxy known usually as an enforcer. The rules of the game are simple: the victim of the enforcement will get a weapon and a bodyguard. This body guard is either hired by them or assigned by the government. The latter are prone to making deals with enforcers; subsequently, damaging the victims chances of escape. The protagonist is one of these enforcers, Hiroshi Kano. He's mentally unstable and knows it. He chooses to try and fix the problem, and isn't treated poorly by the mangaka if you're wondering. Kano, is probably the best reason to read this. The other characters aren't all that interesting. Mazaki Mizoguchi is a lunatic without reason and Ichiro Yamada is a doing everything by the rules archetype.

The second best reason to read this manga is the fact that the Jiro Matsumoto gives a lot of story elements to the actual victims of the enforcement; therefore causing the reader to care about what's happening throughout. I believe that this and scenes with Kano are the best parts, usually.

Throughout the manga you will also see scenes of rape, gore, and abuse among a number of other things. This coupled alongside the mangaka's art style creates a dark atmosphere. Things that you think happen might not have happened too. Example:

All in all I enjoyed it, and would recommend it if you're looking for something dark that brings out the "I hate humanity" inside of you. I would give it a 4.5/5 maybe 4.2.

In alternate history Japan is engaged in protracted war and massive economic recession. Due to massive military spending, many prisons are shut and a Vengeance Act is created instead to allow those who have been hurt by convicted criminals to get revenge. Various Vengeance Proxy Enforcer firms are created to supply the massive demand for these.

Trigger warning: violence, gore, rape.

The mc is Hiroshi Kano,a mentally unstable ex-soldier who suffers from memory loss and who might have supernatural abilities. He gets a job as a Vengeance Proxy.

My main complain is that women are portrayed as sex objects or useless bimbos (or both) but it's not worse or better compared with other seinen.

A thriller that gets crime noir right. Animation is solid. Nerd fantasy kept to a minimum.

Strange in a compelling way. It'd be easy to over-analyze the material, but I doubt it's actually that psychological.

Wow this was certainly a wild ride! I was looking for something similar to Hideo Yamamoto's Homunculus and somehow stumbled upon this gem. It extremely gritty, dark and violent. There are no clear good guys, there is no political agenda that wants to teach you something like you are a kid. There are only grey areas and this is exactly what makes it so entertaining. You simply do not know what's going to happen next.

Super cool lil series. Feel like it's got some complex themes, but whatever they are they are all dark af. I just enjoyed all the edgelord bait. And the cover arts are peak.

I am slowly learning to accept I will never be a spooky skeleton in a suit wearing night vision goggles, reloading a engraved revolver. Slowly.
