Seven Amish Sisters
Book 1: Her Surprise Christmas Courtship Book 2: Falling for the Amish Bad Boy Book 3: The Teacher's Christmas Secret Book 4: An Unconventional Amish Pair
Read this for a silly book challenge among some coworkers. The writing wasn’t the worst I’d ever seen, but it was still a dud. An odd mix of preaching and forgiveness, coupled with a total lack of character building made this a lazy read. I felt it washing over me like Valium. I feel little to nothing now that I’m done.
The plot given in the first pages has an Amish "maidel" working on the roof -- in pants -- and owns her construction business. The story is unique and makes for an entertaining one.
But......... I have a hard time buying that any Amish Bishop would ever approve. Thus, the four (4) star rating.
An Unconventional Amish Pair is Emma Miller's fourth book in the Seven Amish Sisters series, and it tells the story of Henritta Koffman and Chandler, who left the community for eight years to pursue the life of an Englisher. Hearing about the death of his brother two years ago is what brought him back to his Amish community. Although Henry is an Amishwoman, she also fixes things for Amish widows, and she's actually remodeling Chandler's mother's kitchen. Will Chandler and Henry's friendship grow and become more than that, or will ghosts from Chandler's past destroy their relationship?
This was another very enjoyable read from Emma Miller. If you've started this series, you definitely won't want to miss this one.
I absolutely loved this story! I thoroughly enjoyed the friendship, relationship, and interactions between Henrietta and Chandler. Their honesty and openness with each other were so refreshing and were key to their growing relationship. I struggled with Sam, but he redeemed himself by coming through in a way that completely took me by surprise. The story also has a wonderful lesson on following the teachings from God's word. including how to treat and help others without being judgmental. But most of all, I loved the connection to a beautiful Bible parable. I can honestly say that An Unconventional Amish Pair deeply touched my heart, and I highly recommend it.
Henrietta, Henry to family and friends, is not your typical Amish Woman. She love to build and remodel. Most of her community turn their noses up at her, they want her in the kitchen. Even Sam, a friend, who wants to "walk out with her" and be married by fall, can't /won't understand. While working on a kitchen remodel for one of the community widows, a strange man arrives at the worksite; Chandler, the widow's son who jumped the fence has returned. He is also in construction and his mother decides he can help Henry do the job. A nice e story of redemption, second chances, and coming home.
Henrietta known as Henry to her family is expected to be with Sam her friend. Though they just do not click. Then Chandler comes home after 8 years and his mom is excited. Now then things start to look up. The Amish have issues just like everyone else. They have different ways of dealing with it.
A thoughtful story dealing with real-life issues that affect relationships. Getting along with family and friends, making choices that have lifelong consequences and seeing the good in others are things that we all have to deal with. An enjoyable read.
4.5 rounded up. Another awesome seven sisters book. Henry is an interesting character. She’s 100% dedicated to her Amish life but she doesn’t fit the mold of the typical Amish woman. She’s going to need a special guy if she’s going to be happy!
