"The Sapphire Daughter" is book #4 in the Lost Daughters series, and I can confidently say each book just gets better as the series goes on!
The book is told in a dual timeline, the first is set in 1951 where we see Delphine navigate through her life in an unhappy marriage, until she meets Florian. The second timeline is present day, and we follow Georgia who like the other women in the previous books, received clues about her family heritage.
There were many emotional moments for me while reading this book that I get goosebumps just from writing that!
Georgia's love story with Luca was just beautiful and seeing that while reading Delphine and Florian's had my heart feeling so many emotions for everyone.
Soraya really knows how to write a beautiful story which makes you feel like you are there watching it happen around you. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

I've really enjoyed this series so far!
The starting chapters centre around the same premise, following a different protagonist who gets called to a meeting with a solicitor regarding an item left for her in Hope's House, a home for unmarried mothers who have their babies adopted. This opening scene threw me slightly, as it reminded me of very similar wording in another book in the series, The Cuban Daughter. Then it struck me. All the other women in the waiting room of the solicitors' office were other protaganists in the series! And I LOVED that. I thought it a truly wonderful touch. Although, slightly amused it's taken this long to realise!
The item, a pink sapphire, gets valued and it turns out it's part of Italian history, so she jets off to Lake Geneva to track down her heritage.
I adored this story, it had me hooked and I raced through this book. I love dual timeline novels, and this series has been fabulous, but I think this one is my favourite one so far.

Londen, heden. Als Georgia een kistje gevuld met aanwijzingen over het verleden van haar grootmoeder ontvangt, heeft ze eerst helemaal geen interesse om deze geschiedenis te onderzoeken. Na het overlijden van haar ouders wees haar oma haar af, en hoewel ze een liefdevol thuis vond bij de ouders van haar beste vriendin, koestert ze nog altijd wrok en is ze verdrietig omdat ze zich nooit gewenst heeft gevoeld door dit enige overgebleven familielid. Na een jaar wordt ze toch nieuwsgierig en een enorme edelsteen en een krantenknipsel leiden haar naar Genève, waar ze ook kunstverzamelaar Luca ontmoet, die al jaren op zoek is naar deze steen.

In haar soepele schrijfstijl neemt Soraya Lane je mee naar Zwitserland en stelt ze je voor aan twee krachtige vrouwen die grote uitdagingen hebben gekend in hun leven, die weten hoe het voelt om een gebroken hart te hebben, die zichzelf voorzichtig weer openstellen en voor wie familie een nieuwe betekenis krijgt. Terwijl je heen en weer springt tussen heden en verleden worden hun verhaallijnen steeds verder met elkaar vervlochten en de connectie is iets minder verrassend dan in het derde deel, maar beide tijdlijnen zijn interessant en mooi uitgewerkt, er worden mysteries opgelost, emoties zijn voelbaar en de levensecht neergezette karakters maken een groei door, waardoor je met hen mee gaat leven.
Beide vrouwen maken in korte tijd erg veel mee en vooral de ontwikkelingen op liefdesgebied gaan heel snel, waarbij hevige en soms verwarrende gevoelens, dramatische gebeurtenissen, voorzichtig vertrouwen in een nieuwe toekomst, blijdschap en pijn elkaar afwisselen. Hoewel iets meer gecreëerde diepgang het geheel voor mij naar een nog hoger niveau had kunnen tillen, is de chemie tastbaar, gun je deze vrouwen voorspoed, worden keuzes goed onderbouwd, zitten er bijzondere parallellen in hun verhalen en durven ze hun hart te volgen, wat door eerdere ervaringen best een sprong in het diepe is.
Het resultaat is een warm, ontroerend, meeslepend en romantisch verhaal over familiegeheimen, (verboden) liefde, zelfgekozen familie en hechte vriendschap, verbinding, haast onmogelijke keuzes, schatten, tweede kansen, gezien worden, geluk en groot verdriet, een gelaagd verhaal dat je fijne leesuren zal bezorgen!

This is an incredible time slip historical novel.
Busy, modern woman Georgia has been summoned to receive a package that has come from Hope's House, a home for unwed mothers. Upon opening it she finds a stunning pink sapphire. She knows she must discover how this connects to her family and the significance of this gem.
I enjoyed being swept away by the author to exotic locations as Georgina travels to Lake Geneva to discover how the pink sapphire came to be in her family's possession. I was very intrigued as I read, the book held me captivated as I read, to find out the gem was part of a priceless tiara owned by the Italian royal family. What connection could her family possibly have to it?
An escapist read I simply couldn't put down, the backstory with its romantic forbidden love story. It's so emotional, one decision takes a second to make but the consequences will last a lifetime. I so wanted the outcome to be different. I am captivated every time I read a book by the author. I highly recommend this must-read book.

In present day London, Georgia comes in possession of a pink sapphire that she decides to get appraised. Leaving it with the jeweler, she doesn't expect much. When she returns, she quickly finds out that not only is the sapphire quite valuable, it has a history that is very important. This leads Georgia to Lake Geneva.
As this story is told in two timelines, it also goes back to Lake Geneva in 1951. Delphine has two children and is a very unhappy marriage. If it were up to her she and her family would be happy and united, but her husband has other ideas. After a while she meets and falls in love with Florian. Although divorce would be difficult at that time, Delphine and Florian begin to make plans for their future. Tragically, things do not turn out that way and Delphine finds herself temporarily residing at Hope's House, a home for unwed mothers.
While Georgia is in Lake Geneva, she meets Luca, a man who inherited a stunning sapphire tiara from his grandfather. This tiara had been missing a single sapphire, and as it turns out, it is the very sapphire that Georgia has in her possession.
Hope's House has a big role in what Georgia learned and what Delphine experienced all those years before. In fact, Hope's House played a big role in each woman's story in this Lost Daughters series by Soraya Lane. Each story was a delight and it was very interesting to see these dual timeline stories. I really enjoyed both Georgia and Delphine's story, although Delphine's story was one of loss and sadness. Georgia's story had more light, and this pulled this book together in quite a satisfying manner.
As Georgia is not the only woman who had received a mysterious box connected to Hope’s House, I cannot wait for the next book in this warm and engaging series. Each story was truly lovely, and with excellent writing and satisfying endings, this series is a true winner for me.

Soraya Lane never disappoints me! This book just pulled me out of a reading slump! I loved this story so much, as I have the rest of the series so far. I really felt for Delphine and Florian, and I’m so glad Luca and Georgia got to live their happy ending for them. Brilliant!

THE SAPPHIRE DAUGHTER is a story of love, loss and family secrets that held me captive from beginning to end. Hope’s House, a home for unwed mothers whose babies have been adopted plays a key role in each of these compelling stories. In present day London, Georgia has just received a small box left for her at Hope House. It contains a rare pink sapphire, and another item, mysterious clues as to who might have left the box at Hope’s House. What could the items have to do with Georgia’s family history? She learns that the gemstone was part of a priceless tiara previously owned by the Italian royal family. The only one who might be able to help her solve the mystery is Luca, a man whose own family inherited the tiara generations prior and who has been searching for the missing gem since. Together Georgia and Luca piece together the stunning love story of Delphine and Florian set in Lake Geneva in 1951. Delphine is stuck in a loveless marriage, but finds passion and happiness in the arms of her secret lover. But when tragedy strikes, Delphine is forced to make an unfathomable decision that will alter the future forever. I loved reading about the two intertwined love stories. Both storylines are gripping and emotional and I was completely engrossed. I can’t wait for the next installment in this outstanding series. This book took my breath away. It had me wishing for things to happen. Crying my eyes out in parts. Holding my breath in other parts. A love that couldn't be. A love that was. A love that will be. Lives forever changed. It all starts after a stay at Hope's House. Hope's House is a home for expectant mothers. A place where they can feel safe.
Told in two timelines and about two women who never met but are related. This is a rich and loving story with some very sad things happening too. But it's all for the sake of love. A true, deep, forever, love...

This book took my breath away. It had me wishing for things to happen. Crying my eyes out in parts. Holding my breath in other parts. A love that couldn't be. A love that was. A love that will be. Lives forever changed. It all starts after a stay at Hope's House. Hope's House is a home for expectant mothers. A place where they can feel safe.
Told in two timelines and about two women who never met but are related. This is a rich and loving story with some very sad things happening too. But it's all for the sake of love. A true, deep, forever, love...

Een prachtig mooi verhaal weer. Je kunt wel merken dat de boeken steeds beter worden en het verhaal steeds indrukwekkender. Ik was bij dit verhaal echt meer geboeid bij beide verhalen en ik vond hem ook mysterieuzer. Wel blijft het soms jammer dat ze best snel bij de juiste persoon aankomen en ook gelijk verliefd worden op de eerste de beste man. Maar dit zijn echt heerlijke aanraders voor als je leuke historische romans wilt lezen of luisteren 🥰.

Loved Georgia’s story!!! Her character may have been my favorite yet. I cannot wait until the next book in this series but I suppose I will have to be patient. It also made me want to get back to Geneva. As I was listening to the book I could visualize standing by the lake. It’s been too long since I’ve been for a visit.

In de Zwitserse dochter krijgen we ook weer 2 verhaallijnen.
In het heden maken we kennis met Georgia een 27 jarig meisje die zich, na het overleiden van haar ouders, volledig op haar carrière stort. Wanneer ze bericht krijgt van een advocatenkantoor besteed ze hier ook niet meer aandacht aan dan nodig. Het kistje dat ze krijgt met enkel de naam van haar grootmoeder op en 2 voorwerpen in die haar niet echt iets zeggen verdwijnt dan ook diep in een la. Georgia heeft helemaal geen behoefte om in het verleden van haar grootmoeder waar ze geen band mee heeft te spitten. Maar wanneer ze na een jaar toch besluit de roze edelsteen te laten onderzoeken brengt deze haar naar Genève. Daar ontmoet ze een kunstverzamelaar die al jaren opzoek is naar die steen.
Genève 1951. Wanneer Delphine in de steek wordt gelaten door haar echtgenoot is ze diep ongelukkig, maar toch wil ze er alles aandoen zodat haar 2 kinderen hier niets van merken. Op een dag ontmoet ze de charmante zakenman Florian. Een man die haar weer doet geloven in echte liefde en die wel een toekomst ziet met haar en haar kinderen. Delphine durft terug gelukkig te zijn tot het noodlot toeslaat en ze de moeilijkste keuze ooit moet maken…
Wauw met dit 4de deel van de verloren dochters serie zitten we al in de helft van deze achtdelige reeks. En nog geen pagina in deze vier boeken heeft mij teleurgesteld.
Telkens opnieuw slaagt Lane erin om je mee te nemen in het leven van haar personages. Tijdens het lezen voel je soms echt het verdriet dat ze in het verhaal meemaken. Ook dit boek zorgde weer voor kippenvel, een lach en een traan bij mij.
Het aspect van het verliezen van je eigen familie maar het opgenomen worden in een andere familie komt hier zo mooi aan bod. Maar ook weer thema’s als afscheid nemen, vriendschap en natuurlijk liefde komen er in voor en maken dit verhaal zo goed. En bij elk boek wordt mijn nieuwsgierigheid naar het verhaal van Mia een beetje meer aangewakkerd. Ik kan deze serie alleen maar volmondig aanraden aan iedereen die het wil horen. Ik verlang naar meer!

The Sapphire Daughter written by author Soraya Lane is an absolutely wonderful and engaging read. This story filled with mystery, intrigue and plot twists and turns makes it unputdownable. This author had me flying through the pages waiting to see what was going to happen next. The author describes Lake Geneva in a beautiful way. I could see the sun dance on the ripples in the lake. I could feel the breeze from the lake on my cheek. I loved the character of Georgia and the relationship that developed between she and Luca was lovely. This is the fourth book of The Lost Daughters Series. What an amazing series this has been. Each book is wonderful and satisfying read. I have loved each installment, don’t pass up this amazing series. It is definitely a must read.

Wszystkie książki z tej serii przypadły mi do gustu i ta również ☺️ taka książka w sam raz na jesień, lekki romansik "cieplutki" z nutą zagadki. Mimo że już wiemy że wątki w książkach sa bardzo podobne, rozwikłanie zagadki z przeszłości i to co dzieję sie współcześnie, nie przeszkadza mi to, każda z tych historii jest opowiedziana zupełnie inaczej , ale najbardziej podoba mi sie realizm przedstawienia miejsc w których dzieję sie akcja, czytając czuję się jak bym zwiedzała szwajcarię (Grecję , Włochy czy Kubę)😊

Die verborgene Tochter war mein erstes Buch von Soraya Lane – und sicherlich nicht das letzte. Der Roman erinnerte mich stellenweise an „Die sieben Schwestern“ von Lucinda Riley, was mir persönlich gut gefallen hat, da diese Atmosphäre dem Buch einen besonderen Reiz verlieh.
Besonders die Liebesgeschichte von Delphine und Florian hat mich tief berührt. Sie war emotional, gut erzählt und hat mich komplett abgeholt. Das Ende ihrer Geschichte wurde sehr stimmig und gefühlvoll dargestellt. Anders sah es jedoch bei Georgia und Luca aus. Ihre Liebesgeschichte wirkte auf mich leider zu übertrieben und unglaubwürdig, was mich ein wenig aus der Geschichte herausgerissen hat.
Der Schreibstil von Soraya Lane ist angenehm leicht, flüssig und gleichzeitig detailliert. Man taucht schnell in die Handlung ein und kann die Szenen lebhaft vor sich sehen. Allerdings hätte das Buch gerne ein paar Seiten mehr haben dürfen, um tiefer in die Geschehnisse einzutauchen und einige Handlungsstränge noch mehr auszuarbeiten.
Insgesamt hat mir der Roman sehr gut gefallen, auch wenn er an manchen Stellen nicht ganz überzeugen konnte.

I hadn’t realised that this was the fourth book in a series. It can definitely be read as a standalone book. But has made me want to go back and read the others. It is a charming story of love and loss that really draws you into the characters, and locations, if you like dual timelines with a heavy dose of romance, then this is the book for you.
