I am going to make an overview for this manga, since frankly, I am only left with one volume to finish.
However, I will do proper review for each volume (I do this because I like to relish books I read and my reviews usually helped do just that) once this is physically licensed as they are only officially did digitally through MangaPlaza (and right now they provide free read till chapter 48 until 30 April 2026! SO RUNN BESTIEEEE). Too bad, I don't like to keep digital manga especially one where I have to login to look back? Just give me the damn physical copy, but guessed money is spent anyway.
In case you were not familiar, this manga, translated to The Ramparts of Ice is another work of the same author of You and I Are Polar Opposites, Vol. 1 and yesss they are currently airing on Netflix, so please go watch it!!! (I even see Suzuki's back in the manga making a cameo) and was going rampage because I love the crossover.
Now, when I thought Suzuki, Tani and friends have been cute, I am unfortunately has fallen to the abyss of this manga and anime, and I just can't bring myself to wait for the weekly episode, let alone to wait if it will have Season 2 like its predecessor. I AM SO HYPERFIXED ON THIS RIGHT NOW THAT IT IS STRESSING ME OUT.
What you need to know is that this manga centers a lot on miscommunication which is the major contribution to my gray hair and there is some point of this manga that made me hate where it was going because things can be solved IF YOU FUCKING TALKED, but then they are high school students and if they do, this manga will just be over sooner. Alas, this is the time where they will learn and grow and perhaps that's what give me a soft spot to all these characters and I just want to hug them moreee (MAMA I LOVE THEM).
Admittedly, this manga also feels heavier; it's so heartbreaking I swear it gets me depressed at one point; I went to work like a walking zombie because I was binge reading. While I don't like that one plot from happening in this manga (You will know what I meant, I AM LOOKING AT YOU MINATO) but I know it has to happen as part of his character arc. This manga is definitely more complex as it deals with all of their emotions and past trauma, and you get to know more of the characters. Justifiably, it became the reason why they behave and act the way do and I can't fault them (I JUST WANT TO CRYYY).
I am still yet to the part where our main characters will get together, and I lowkey hate that this is a slow burn and we are only left with one volume before the manga ends. I would love more if the manga focused more on their couple days, than whatever those dramas we have to go through. To a certain point, it was exhausting too, but oh well... I did sign myself up for this, aren't I?
I HAVE A LOT TO SAY but my arms hurt from typing already. So till they get physically licensed or my reading goals are too far from being reachable this year, I will remain this review as it is and will not mark it as read. IF ANYONE WANTS TO TALK WITH ME ABOUT THIS FRANCHISE PLS DO SO I AM IN DISTRAUGHT THIS HYPERFIXATION IS SUCH A DEATH BED (welcome to ADHD exhbition 101).
All in all, I kind of enjoy this manga more but to each of their own. If you love Tani and Suzuki, I think their stories are overall lighter and cute, and I still enjoy them! I was happier before I succumb to this hellhole that Koyuki and Minato bestowed upon me. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *jumping off the cliff*
Also, I find it funny how everyone thinks Koyuki is pissed all the time but she just has an rbf and is an introvert. She. Must. Be. Protected.
You and I are Polar Opposites.
This was actually super cute and sweet. I started the anime and was enjoying it so I picked up the manga, so glad I did!
Really enjoyed the story and the art. Some of the expressions were hilarious and unique. Like not afraid to push that line of quirky art to make an expression really land or a joke hit. I think sometimes manga artists are afraid of making their characters look too goofy or weird for a moment, but it really paid off here.
Slightly heavy handed delivery of important themes but ultimately the earnest and genuine warmth of the messages were very clear.
Sweet and romantic. Lots of personal growth and reflection. And just a couple of highschoolers living their lives.
I got you girl
Read the series after checking out the Netflix show.
In general an OK read.
It suffers from the extreme slow burn that ends on the quickest romance resolution, and absolutely zero of our characters together in any meaningful way at the end.
Would have been a 3 star without the plot decisions that happen from 75-90% in.
At just under 120 chapters however it was a pretty quick read, which was a plus.
I WATCHED THIS ON NETFLIX!! Episode one and i liked the premise so i went to the manga because i was itchy for more and im a sucker for the black cat golden retriever whatever and i have high hopes for this
Super carino, ho finito l'anime in poco tempo e ho iniziato subito il manga.
Binge read the manga because I loved the anime and couldn’t stand the wait. Loved the series. Cute high school romance with lots of personal and group development with all the characters as the story progresses. Minato x Koyun 💕
Love the story but don't particularly like the emptiness of the background, so I prefer watching the anime. I also hate that I ended up liking Yota for Koyun too T^T
