I really like the song Redeemed and I enjoy Big Daddy Weave’s other songs so when I had the chance to get the book that goes along with this song I knew I had to get it to review. The book is a short 240 pages and is a thirty day devotional about what it means to be redeemed through Christ’s blood, covering such areas like: Redeemed from the Shame, Redeemed and at Peace, Redeemed by Hope, Redeemed and Thankful and more gives you a new look on what it means to be redeemed. Full of Scripture the readings take less than 5 minutes followed by several Scripture verses and then quotes by godly Christians like Tozer, Spurgeon, Beth Moore and others. After the reading, verses and quotes there is a short prayer you can use, or make up your own as you reflect on the reading and Scripture and there is an area for notes about what you’ve learned or your thoughts.
It’s great for men, women and even older children may find it inspiring and drawing them closer to the Lord. Granted I just read through the book but I can see myself definitely spending more time with it and doing it over the course of a month and really delving into it – as a lot of the subject matter really hits to the heart and mind, the one that got me was the shame chapter. This wasn’t a feel good Christianity, it will make one aware that Christ died for us and He is the only way, so theologically and Scripturally it was quite sound from my reading. I think if your wanting a short devotional then this is a good one – work through it with a spouse or in a group and share what you’ve learned. Also at the end are more Scripture split up according to subjects like anger, gratitude, worry and more to make it easy to find a specific Scripture you may need at a certain time. The devotional does use the KJV, NKJV, NIV, NLT, MSG, NCV, ESV, NASB, and HCSB versions of the Bible – however you can use whichever version you prefer.

What does it mean to be redeemed? That's the question behind the new devotional written by members of the Christian band Big Daddy Weave. It's a 30-day devotional that springs from their hit song of the same name. The song, the lead singer writes, came from a very difficult time in his life, so it's not surprising that it has had great power in many people's lives. What comes out of times in the wilderness shapes us more than we know.
When I read the introduction, I was somewhat excited to see what would be shared in that context. Unfortunately, the thirty devotions consist of rather surface-level thoughts. There is nothing wrong with what is written; it's all quite true, good theology and on the mark. Perhaps my struggle with the book has to do with my own expectations. I was looking for more stories rather than just theology. I wanted to hear how the authors had experienced the truth they are writing about, how the theology links to life. I wanted both truth and experience.
What we have in this book is a pattern I've seen from this publisher before, so I should have known what to expect. There is a one-page lesson, a page of Biblical verses, then a page of quotes from other Christian writers and speakers, and finally a last thought and prayer. (Don't be quick to quote the writers and speakers, though, as the "disclaimer" in the front of the book tells you that many of them have been "edited for clarity and brevity" and that "the accuracy cannot be guaranteed." Think of these as paraphrased thoughts rather than direct quotes, as no sources are given.) The themes all relate to what redemption does for and in us.
And because of that, there is much to be thankful for in this book. If you're looking for a spiritual vitamin for each day, this book will do quite nicely. If you want to relate the theology to real life, you'll have some work to do on your own.
Full disclosure: I was provided a copy of this book to read and evaluate, but was not asked to provide any certain type of review. I did read it over 30 days, as the book intended.
I have reviewed the book, “Redeemed” by Mike Weaver, of Big Daddy Weave which is a devotional book that focuses on redemption, grace and the amazing healing power of Christ. It is based on the song (by Mike Weaver and Benji Cowart) “Redeemed”, that made the K-Love Fan Awards Song of the Year. The first time I heard this song was actually in my church and it just made me want to start sobbing right then and there! It depicts my personal struggle of remembering my past and inspires me to lay it down, raise my head and understand that I’m not who I used to be, because:
“I am redeemed, You set me free So I’ll shake off these heavy chains Wipe away every stain now I’m not who I used to be I am redeemed.”
The thing is, we all need reminders that though we remember our past failures, He doesn’t! Christ paid for our redemption and set us free from our past and wiped away every stain!
Although the book is a 30 day devotional, to be read a chapter per day, I had to read several days at a time because I just couldn’t stop at the end of the day’s portion! (I do plan to go back and soak it all in though.) Mike Weaver includes a couple of paragraphs where he reminds us about redemption, scriptural references to further reiterate it to our hearts, quotes from well-known authors, speakers and pastors, a daily tip and a prayer for each day. There is also an area for you to write in your thoughts for that day.
Some of the chapter titles are: Redeemed from the Ghosts of the Past, Redeemed from Regret, Redeemed from the Shame, Redeemed from Failure, and on and on…30 days of them, to contemplate, study and absorb. At the end of the devotional, there are several pages of scriptures that are categorized for further study and reflection.
I don't listen to a lot of Christian Contemporary music, as I lean towards more Southern Gospel, but I do listen to some. This is one CCM song I have heard several times and has really meant a lot to me. If you have never heard it, you should listen to it.
The devotional is a thirty day devotional based on the song. Each day talks about being redeemed from or for something. Redeemed from regret, redeemed from the tears, redeemed to serve, redeemed by grace, etc.
Each devotional takes up six pages. On the first page is the actual devotional, followed by a page of Scripture verses that apply to the devotional. The third page has quotes from different people that fit with the devotional, the fourth page has one quote, and is followed by a page with a timely tip and a prayer. The day ends with a page for your own thoughts on the subject dealt with.
I prefer 365 day devotionals that I can read all year long, and am currently reading one in the morning and one in the evening, but I incorporated the Redeemed devotional into my devotional time and not only enjoyed reading it, but found it very helpful. Even though the actual devotional is very short, they are good and combined with the Scripture and quotes, it makes for a great devotional to use for a month, and maybe go back to a few months later.
And not everyone wants a yearly devotional. If not, this would be a great one to read once a week or every few days or just when you want to add more to your time with God. Or do as I did, and even if you're already reading a yearly devotional, incorporate it in with your devotional time. It will add more and you'll be encouraged by it.
*Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book for my honest review*
We all have heard Redeemed, the #1 song by contemporary Christian artist, Big Daddy Weave. A wonderful song telling us that we are redeemed by God, regardless of how unworthy we feel, regardless of what we have done in our pasts. This song speaks to me every time I hear it and I can’t tell you exactly how excited I was to receive their devotional by the same name in the mail to review.
Redeemed is a devotional based solely on the hit song that focuses on redemption, grace, and the healing power of Christ’s love. Mike Weaver, lead singer of Big Daddy Weave, tells you how he wrote the song Redeemed and also says, “The thirty devotionals in this book are reminders that God sent His Son so that we all might experience the life-changing power of redemption.”
Each devotional includes a title, a story or explanation, Bible Verses, Quotes from top preachers/teachers, a timely tip, a prayer, and a place for you to record your thoughts for that particular topic. The layout is wonderful and the topics are truly a blessing. I highly recommend this devotional either for yourself or for a gift for someone you may know who is struggling.
As the chorus says: “I am redeemed, You set me free, So, I’ll shake off these heavy chains, Wipe away every stain, Now I’m not who I used to be, I am redeemed.”
Isn’t it wonderful to sing or say these words….I AM REDEEMED!!!
Understand the Truths behind the inspiring #1 song.
Big Daddy Weave's Redeemed spent months at #1 on radio charts, quickly establishing itself as a classic. Now, Big Daddy Weave songwriter Mike Weaver has written a collection of 30 devotions to help fans understand the ideas of grace and healing that inspired this beloved song.
Redeemed from: - the ghosts of the past - the tears - regret - shame - failure - the struggle - the world's pressures - the fight that's already been won
"If you are God's child, you are no longer bound to your past or to what you were. You are a brand new creature in Christ Jesus." - Kay Arthur
This 30 day devotional is an excellent resource. Each chapter starts out with a verse, and a small little blurb, then more promises from God's Word, which I found brilliant! Really excellent way to go deeper each day with being redeemed and being a new creature in Christ.
Then there are more great ideas (quotes). The timely tips are just small little notes, but really make you think, such as -- the past is past, so don't invest all your energy there. If you're focused on the past, change your focus. If you're living in the past, move on. -- Then there is a prayer for today.
And last but not least, your own thoughts about accepting the past and moving on, or whatever the chapter is about.
Excellent devotional, put together very well. Will make nice stocking stuffers this Christmas I think!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
Weaver is the lead singer for the popular contemporary Christian band Big Daddy Weave. Redeemed is a devotional book inspired by Big Daddy Weave’s single, chart topping, radio hit “Redeemed.” The 208-page devotional book is centered on, redemption, grace, and the healing power of Christ’s love.
The song, Redeemed, has inspired millions. This devotional book is a wonderful way to meditate and worship on, the loving and renewing grace of God. Each chapter has commentary, Bible verses from several translations, quotes from popular people, a prayer, and space to write your own thoughts. Though this book is set up to be read a section a day with room for notes in response to questions, it can be read through as a book. Redeemed is filled with encouragement for trying times and reminders of God's promises and greatness.
A very sweet devotional and I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a devotional as a reminder to keep Christ in their lives daily. It is great for gifts and to keep out on your coffee table. There are pages at the end of each section to allow for reflection and incorporate the message into your daily life.
I Received copy of book from Worthy Publishing in their First Look Blog Program.
I love how the lyrics of Big Daddy Weave's music just takes me to the feet of Jesus. So I was very excited to see Mike Weaver's new devotional based on one of their top hits. Mike has taken the lyrics and premise of the song Redeemed and written thirty short and to the point devotions that will remind us why we have been redeemed.
I spent several days with the book tucked into my purse. When I had a moment or two I'd pull it out and devour a chapter. I enjoyed not only the devotional thoughts but also the suggested scriptures and quotes from leading Christian voices. Another little thing that I liked was at the end of each chapter there is a page designated for your personal thoughts.
The beautiful artwork in the book centers around a heart theme. I'm thinking that this would make a lovely little Valentine's Day gift (along with some chocolate, of course!) for that special someone in your life. The bonus is that it doesn't even have to be a gift to a romantic interest . . . just choose someone you love! We could all use a reminder that we have been REDEEMED!
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
This devotional is so wonderful- I love it! Me and my hubby have been using this for our evening devotionals, we both agree it is one of the best. I love that you can tailor the devotionals to whatever amount of time you want to spend meditating on God’s Word. There are Scriptures listed for further reflection, if you want to just spend some time pondering the topic expressed in that particular reading. There are wonderful quotes that are so inspiring and to-the-point…many were favorites of mine and some I was hearing for the first time.. Each day ends with “A Timely Tip”- sort of a challenge based on the particular devo, (I looked forward to reading these each night) and Prayer, plus a place to write your own thoughts. Overall, this is a wonderful devotional inspired by a life-changing song. It covers every topic from Past Regrets to Living Courageously to Serving Others and so much more! If you’re ready to freshen up your quiet time and grow in your relationship with God, If you want to be inspired and challenged, don’t miss this great devotional!
Though this book is set up to be read a section a day with room for reader input/response to questions, I read through it as though it were a regular book. I am a fan of the song it is based on, so to read the devotional seemed second nature. It is filled with encouragement for trying times and reminders of God's promises and greatness. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a devotional as a reminder to keep Christ in their lives everyday, not just Sunday. Awesomely written with an amazing message. I especially appreciated the pages at the end of each section to allow me to reflect and incorporate today's message into my day's experience and see God at work in my life. This book made me glad to have Him as a guiding light in my life! Praise this book and praise the Lord :)
Based on the popular song 'Redeemed' by Big Daddy Weave, this devotional book is a wonderful way to meditate on and worship the loving and renewing grace of the God of the Bible. Each chapter has commentary, Bible verses from several translations, quotes from popular people, a prayer, and space to write your own thoughts. The end of the book gives Bible verses to consider about various topics. The best part about the book is the message. Page 113 reads, "Christ came to this earth for a purpose; to redeem a fallen world." As the chorus of the song says, " I am redeemed, You set me free. So I'll shake off these heavy chains. Wipe away every stain now I'm not who I used to be. I am redeemed. ". This is the promise for those who choose to put their hope and trust in Jesus.
30 day devotional that I started shortly after the beginning of the month, I think...It really is a nice devotional - The book uses scripture for encouragement and quotes from different religious authors like Charles Stanley (one of my favorites), Warren Weirsbe, Max Lucado (one of my favorites)and many others. I know it's getting marked "read" a few weeks early, but it will definitely be read to the very end!
A nice book for someone new to their faith. Would be an excellent gift to share with a new believer to help guide them through common scriptures and concepts.
