Surrender may seem like the least likely path to a victorious life, but in the kingdom of God it happens to be the only way. We’ve been conditioned to think that surrender makes us weak. But nothing is further from the truth. Surrender to God gives you access to the very life you are searching for. It gives you the power to overcome suffering, it unlocks your identity, and it helps you realize that the past cannot hold you, trials cannot destroy you, and your future is sure. With inspirational stories and practical tips, As You Wish shows you how to surrender to God, do less on your own, and rely on Him to accomplish more than you ever thought possible. Jesus did not only speak about surrender; He also lived it. He asks us to do the same. Let go of your plans, liberate your aspirations, and release the dreams you have for your life. Love the Lord your God with reckless abandon, without reservation or personal agenda. This is surrender. Every day it’s saying to God, “As You wish.”
Do you like it when, after you read a book where the author has shared enough of their heart and personal stories, that they feel like a new friend? This is one of those books.
This entire book is centered on surrender. In some ways it was challenging. In some ways it was encouraging. And throughout it all I found Ms. Lokulutu to be authentic and personable.
I also had to get out my highlighter as I found some gems inside. Here are a few of these gems.
“If you want to discover who you really are, you must first surrender to God.” (p. 6)
“The bottom line is this: either we surrender our body to God or to sin.” (p. 11)
“”God can do more in your reliance on Him than you can do in trying harder.” (p. 53)
“Surrender is not an absence of strength; it is humility in the presence of strength and the ultimate expression of strength under control.” (p. 107)
“The alternative to surrender is not completer freedom; it is slavery to something or someone else.” (p. 159)
The author included quite a bit on the how-to of surrender. She did not merely go over the reasons why we need to. The examples and clarity were much appreciated. She also makes it clear that this is not a one-time thing but rather an ongoing thing.
Are you in need of a fresh surrender to God? Has it been quite some time since you made a clear point of surrendering to God? Have you never really totally surrendered to God? If you answered yes to these questions or you aren’t sure, then this book is for you!!

I'm only one chapter in, so it's probably too early to give much feedback. I didn't love this first chapter, as it felt a little all over the place; it was hard to track with her at times, and see how what she was saying fit in with her overall theme.
I think I would have rearranged chapter 2, to give an outline of what point was being made, before dicing in to a very detailed story.
The author is not a bad writer, by any means, in fact, I think she'd probably be interesting to listen to in person. Her writing style is not my cup of tea, though. I felt like I was feeling what she wrote, but then she'd hurry and make sure the reader knew she was still a Christian, as if she was still feeling guilt over grief giving her angry feelings about God. If the prophet Jeremiah has taught me nothing else, he's taught me God can handle our emotions.
I was very excited to get my hands on this book and start reading. I know Mercy from Celebration church, where she has spoken. She is an amazing woman of God, and I loved getting to read her story. As you wish is about surrendering to God and letting him lead you to where he wants you to go. It's about serving God and others, and finding peace and strength. I love Mercy's stories about her mother, the way she writes about her mother seems like her mother was a very strong Godly woman. I love the part where Mercy talks about her mother praying in tongues over her children while they sleep. That's a very different childhood then I grew up in, but it sounds really interesting. I hope Mercy writes another book because I would love to read more.
I love the way she pumps you up to go out and live the life were called to live. The idea of surrender is fully explained and I am excited to surrender areas of my life after reading this. Her testimony is so strong and I am thankful for the wisdom she shares. Definitely a good book for anyone looking to grow in their walk with Christ.
