(We are) Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the Perpetual Star
Multifoliate Rose...
T.S. Eliot

The Wonder of Luminosity sleeps within us ALL. We must let it AWAKEN us!

For the Perpetual Starlight, whose Multifoliate Rose will soon open its heavenly fragrance within us, is silently shining at the Centre of our Hearts.

We Christians call it the birth of the Spirit. And the Spirit only shines when He has swept away our sin.

***

Sin is invisible to me as I grow old, for:

Ash on an old man's sleeve
Is all the dust the burnt roses leave.

And in old age I am awakening, not only to mortality, but to the fragrance of burnt roses. The impossible ideals I once cherished have become intransigeant dogma.

My faith, though, has made me whole - for after the fury of my bipolar disorder gradually subsided with medicated self-care, those erratic dreams became ash on my sleeve!

The evil one, though, taunts me - "why not pray like Hemingway?" :

Our nada which art in nada...

And then I remembered the starlight within me, and the evil one vanished! Wasn't it just a few hours ago that I awoke from an Elysial Dream?

***

For God's starlight was shining above me all the time I slept last night!

Wandering endlessly over the lush green grass of home: a home that I still adored - a budget-priced, cramped but magical postwar shack set amid the endless fields of heavenly Meadowlands in 1952.

It was still intact in that magical Starlight.

It must have been, for how else could I have dreamed of that endless Peace again, and again?

Friends, it's called Grace!

THAT, as the author of Awaken the Starlight Within tells us, is at once our Home and our Destination.

Thanks so much, Mr. Robledo, for a Beautiful Book.

Guiding Your Journey: Starlight

"Starlight" presents a distinctive fusion of philosophical reflections and practical insights, distinguishing itself from conventional self-help literature. Authored by I.C. Robledo, this book delves into the principles of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Stoicism, offering readers a profound exploration of consciousness and the pursuit of happiness.

Beyond being merely a book to read, this book serves as a manual for navigating life's challenges and finding solace in timeless wisdom. Author's thorough examination of these ancient philosophies equips readers with a comprehensive toolkit for addressing life's complexities and uncertainties.

Spanning approximately twenty chapters, the book encompasses a diverse range of topics, providing deep insights into various facets of human existence. From overcoming fear and criticism to cultivating inner tranquility and fostering meaningful relationships, the book offers enduring wisdom that can be revisited and applied over time.

A central theme of the book is the importance of active awareness and mindfulness in every moment. Robledo emphasizes the transformative power of being fully present, acknowledging the opportunities for growth and learning inherent in everyday experiences.

While the author offers profound philosophical insights, readers seeking actionable steps may benefit from clearer guidance. Particularly for those less familiar with philosophical concepts, concise summaries or practical exercises at the end of each chapter could enhance accessibility and application.

In summary, "Starlight" serves as a valuable companion for individuals embarking on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Though it may require multiple readings to fully absorb its depth, the book illuminates a path towards a more fulfilling and enlightened life.

Note: The author graciously provided me with this book, and I expressed upfront that my feedback could be critical if the book doesn't align with my expectations. Despite this disclaimer, the author generously chose to share his work with me. Much appreciated!

Having read philosophical, spiritual and self-discovery books for 2+ decades, I’ve realized there are only two types:

-First Type (most): You read a few chapters, but don’t finish it because you realize it isn't providing much value.

-Second Type (very few): You read a few chapters and realize that you will re-read it many times and it will be a continual source of valuable insights and inspiration.

This book is one of those rare "Second Types!"

I would strongly recommend that you read a few chapters of this book so you can decide what type it is for you.

Here are some of the book’s characteristics that I think you will be inspired by and impressed with:

-It is guided by timeless principles, but is also authentically personalized.

-It is incredibly comprehensive, but isn’t filled with jargon. (I.C. writes with clarity that has moved beyond mere complexity.)

-It provides fresh insights for the seasoned spiritual traveler, but is completely consumable for anyone who is just beginning their journey.

-It guides the reader through essential metaphors and patterns of self-discovery, but it is not locked into and limited by any particular metaphor or pattern.

-It helps the reader contemplate unknowable, mystical realities, but it is also practically contextualized by daily, mundane activities.

The universe of self-help books can seem dark…I encourage you to reach for this star to find the light within.

Think of this invaluable book as a collection of prose poems. Each little section explores some aspect of life, philosophy, way of being. So, the way to benefit from it is to read one “poem,” then think about it for a few days. Check it against your own experience. Talk to others about its implications. Put it into practice as a personal experiment. Then move on to the next little offering, and repeat. This way, rather than read, be briefly inspired then forget, you will have the catalyst for months of learning and growth.

It’s so deep and I want to really help myself with it that I read a few chapters and dwell in the thoughts and insights. I’ve been keeping a journal page just for 2-3 words of each page to remind me what changes in my thoughts I want to make to awaken MY starlight.

As I read some chapters realized how broken I have become. But it was followed up with such positive thoughts and paths for me to take that I realize pain, anger, stress with no road out it isn’t my future anymore. I have a way out of these crazy things I have let get me down, angry, hurt, stressed with etc. so many things can drag a person into a bad place and we are not all given the skill set to get ourselves out. This book really gave me and I believe others a way out. A path, a light at the end of that “tunnel”. Some things I didn’t even realize kept me on that path of negative thoughts or anger and hurt. His examples were well placed to help me see some minor road blocks that snowballed into closed roads on some personal triggers. To have a light shining on a healthy path for my mind to take is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT for me because I couldn’t get there on my own. And my starlight shines a tiny bit brighter everyday as I practice the mind sets of open mindedness on a level that I had never thought of before. What a gift your book has been. I could write a book on this book because of all the incredibly insightful thoughts he gives. Never did I feel I was wrong or judged here. It simply states ways to exit some paths that dim your starlight. I will give you an little example but it turns into a big thing for me. My husband I walk through parks each morning and it infuriates me that at a park where dogs are supposed to be leashed, where there are 3 big dog leash free areas, free poop bags, people still let their dogs run free, unsupervised scaring us and our leashed dog plus sometimes we step in the poop they leave behind that when we enter these parks I get angry immediately. I just know that I’m going to see someone breaking that law because they are “special”. It ruins it for me and I am annoyed just writing this example. But as he clearly point out- I am doing it to myself! Reading his examples of bad drivers and how he just decided to be careful for himself and for the benefit of others is a simple thought yet one I just hadn’t come up with. That is a very simple part of his books. His thoughts are deep and profound but simply stated for me to absorb it in my way with my situations. His examples really bring it home. They are normal situations that we can all relate to and easily tie into our own issues. And yet they are deep. I love the non judgmental approach he has to many of my self inflicted wounds.

It’s making a positive impact and difference in my life and those I interact with. I wish he did podcasts! He would be well loved by many. I hope people read this book as this helps you know your starlight power it has been life changing for me and it makes a difference in a world where hurt, anger and pain is all over the place. It certainly is a positive uplifting experience to read his thoughts.

***½

If you're feeling lost or stuck in a rut, Awaken the Starlight Within by I.C. Robledo promises to be your compass, guiding you towards unleashing your inner potential. Part inspirational manifesto, part practical self-help guide, the book delves into themes of self-love, overcoming fear, and living authentically. Robledo's central message is that we all possess an inherent "starlight," a wellspring of power and purpose waiting to be tapped into. Through a blend of poetic musings and actionable exercises, he aims to equip readers with the tools to break free from self-doubt and create a fulfilling life.

The book is brimming with thought-provoking ideas. Robledo emphasises the importance of reframing negative thoughts, fostering gratitude, and setting clear intentions. He also draws inspiration from various sources, weaving in references to spiritual teachers like Rumi and self-help gurus like Tony Robbins. This creates a rich tapestry of wisdom, offering something for most readers to connect with.

Robledo's writing style is engaging and easy to digest. He uses vivid metaphors and personal anecdotes to illustrate his points, making the book feel more like a warm conversation than a dusty textbook. The structure, however, is a bit uneven. The book flits between philosophical ponderings and practical exercises, which can feel disjointed at times. While some might enjoy this variety, others might find that it disrupts the flow.

As for credibility, Awaken the Starlight Within relies more on inspirational stories and personal philosophies than on scientific research. While this doesn't detract from the book's core message, readers seeking a deeply researched approach to self-improvement might be left wanting.

Originality-wise, the book treads familiar ground in the self-help genre. However, Robledo's unique blend of poetic language and practical exercises offers a fresh perspective. Additionally, the focus on "starlight" as a metaphor for inner power adds a touch of whimsy that sets it apart from some of its more stoic counterparts.

So, where does Awaken the Starlight Within truly shine? This book is a great fit for those seeking an inspirational boost and a gentle nudge towards self-discovery. The easy-to-read style and relatable anecdotes make it perfect for casual readers or anyone new to the self-help world. However, those seeking a more rigorous, research-backed approach might find it lacking in depth. Ultimately, Awaken the Starlight Within is a shimmering 3.5 out of 5 stars—a well-written and encouraging guide, but one that might not illuminate the path for everyone.

Mixed with personal stories, Robledo's book encapsulates many of the various lessons, concepts, and ideas one will encounter on their spiritual journey sooner or later. He breaks down what starlight means, and tells us how we have the power within us to become our best selves by remaining true to what makes us feel alive, aligned, and authentic.

I don't remember how I came across Robledo, I'm just glad I did. Reading this book provided me further proof that I am on the right path in my own journey to healing, patience, mindfulness, and ultimately, enlightenment.

Robledo's work helps readers envision a future where they aren't ruled by emotions, where they can let go of the externals holding them back, conquer their own weaknesses, and be able to live fully, happily, with love, and eventually - starlight. If you are ready to find your inner calm, your inner strength, Robledo's self-development book is a fantastic guide to awakening the starlight within.

This book is a series of essays that all seem connected to the central idea that we all have starlight within us. This is symbolic of our free agency, our divinity, our consciousness, and potential.
The key to unlocking that starlight is to figure out what we want to accomplish in life, learn from failures, help those around you, and in general, to practice an awareness around you of the small things that may lead to new opportunities.

I actually found that it was very difficult to come up with a proper summary of the book, because there are a lot of elements here. The author says in the beginning that each of the essays could be a book on their own, and as I was listening through the chapters, I actually could think of specific books that were all about a single concept that he brought up.

As a result, this book was a kind of lesson about the self-help genre in general. Why do we have so many books talking about the same idea, which is basically asking the question of how do we live a good and purposeful life?

We need them because people are so different and people need different advice at different times in their life. Maybe one conceptualization of the answer is good in one part of my life but useless in another. That’s just within my own frame of reference, let alone the billions of different personalities in the world that are all asking the question of how to live well at least to some extent.

The messages may be cliché, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t true, and it doesn’t mean that we don’t need to hear be reminded of them from time to time.

My overall conclusion from this book is that consciousness is a gift and our experience of everything is enhanced by active awareness. This book seems to be grounded in a combination of Buddhism and Stoicism and committed to the idea that it’s important to be aware. As we are aware, we will find that there are potential life lessons in every moment of our existence that we have the opportunity to grow from.

It’s the argument against seeing our lives as needing to be a certain way before we can be happy. In this framework, the option to be happy is immediately close to us, and I find that to be a liberating thought.

One point that the book brings up which I really liked is that we should act the same whether everyone is watching us or no one is watching us. That’s how we can live an authentic life. We shouldn’t let our audience size affect the way we act. If you love to write music, you should do it whether you’re the only one who hears it or if you have a million followers. It’s very relieving to embrace this idea.

The book is a buffet of really good life advice so I think it would be hard to read this book and not come across an insightful new way of seeing something.

Prepare to be dazzled by I.C. Robledo's "Awaken the Starlight Within: Heartfelt Wisdom to Reveal Your Personal Power," a great addition to the self-help category that shines brighter than a supernova in a sea of lackluster personal growth guides.

Robeldo's message is simple yet profound: the potential for goodness, love, truth, hope, and enlightenment (or Starlight) resides within each of us, just waiting to be unleashed upon the world.

While the self-help genre may be more crowded than a rush-hour subway, the author manages to cut through the noise with a fresh perspective and a gentle approach that would make even Seneca crack a smile. The book is peppered with thought-provoking insights and practical tips that will have you nodding along like a bobblehead on a dashboard.

From embracing the fleeting nature of life to expanding beyond your ego, the author covers a wide range of topics that will leave you feeling like a master in the making. Robeldo encourages readers to face death head-on (not literally, please don't try this at home) in order to live fully, and to grow through pain like a philosophical bodybuilder.

But don't worry, it's not all heavy stuff. Robeldo's writing style is as refreshing as a cool breeze on a hot summer day, making even the most profound concepts easy to digest. You'll find yourself chuckling at the author's gentle approach and nodding in agreement at everything that is so relatable to all of us.

I read a lot in this category and let's face it: it's a world where self-help books often rehash the same old ideas. However, "Awaken the Starlight Within" is a beacon of originality. Robeldo has managed to create a guide that is both timeless and timely, drawing on ancient wisdom while addressing the unique challenges of modern life.

So, if you're ready to unlock your limitless potential and shine your inner light like a disco ball at a dance party, definitely get your hands on a copy of this author's opus. This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to cultivate mastery, pursue deeper meaning, and communicate authentically with the world.

I.C. Robledo provides insight in his book Awaken the Starlight Within. The author offers information, like how to overcome thoughts of pain and fear of death, not be afraid of change, let go of tiring concerns, be more conscious of others, be a student of life, and be more mindful of your experiences. Robledo outlines ways to tap an inner strength and begin asking questions with deeper meaning as he imparts wisdom through examples and constructive thought. He directs readers on how to move past the need for validation and the preoccupation with worldly concerns to a calmer presence that allows the ability to contribute to society without permitting it to drain you.
I.C. Robledo has absorbed the information from hundreds of texts and delivered them in his own way, uniquely speaking to readers as they glide through the pages. The book may require more than one reading as you may miss something on the first reading or certain text may be more relevant to you later. Philosophical people who seek a deeper understanding of themselves in relation to the universe should pay particular attention to the ideas in the book and the questions raised by Robledo. Some concepts are repeated for emphasis, but they embrace the need for more attention and reflection. The author’s words stay with the reader long after they finish the book as they think about and apply the new way of thinking or elevated awareness to their daily lives. Awaken the Starlight Within is a great selection for readers who wish to have a broader understanding and realize the power of transformation within themselves.

‘We are Starlight, as we have Starlight within us’ - Warm embracing thoughts from a Pro

Author I.C. Robledo earned his degrees in psychology and in organizational psychology from Purdue and the University of Oklahoma and offers this newest volume of his Timeless Wisdom: Self-Discovery Books to Live Your Best Life series with AWAKEN THE STARLIGHT WITHIN. As he states the impetus for this new volume, ‘This book explores the limitless potential inside us and our Starlight energy…to help you arrive at the present moment, even when that is difficult.’ He defines Starlight as ‘goodness, unlimited potential, inspiration, love, truth, joy, hope, excellence, and enlightenment.’

Robledo offers words of others in tandem with his own reflections and thoughts and musings that provide a palette of themes gently, sensitively, tenderly, and eloquently - words/thoughts that immediately enter our consciousness and provide portals of growth, transformative nuances, and ‘starlight’ expressed from within. Without exception, every reader who absorbs this book will find poignant moments that feel immediately relatable - thoughts and ideas and insights that touch the heart and mind and soul and beckon awakening to a fuller life. As the author invites, ‘Tap into Starlight.’ Very highly recommended

Not sure I'd agree this for a novice looking to discover their inner power - there is a lot (and I do mean a lot!) of information in here, and though it is delivered as insights and nuggets, there is the very real possibility of getting overwhelmed by all this is disclosed and revealed throughout.
I'd say this is one of those books best kept on one's bedside table (or e-reader), to read/digest/integrate one insight per day or a few per week, and progress through the year. When you're done, then keep it as a tome to open randomly and see what information you land on that day, aka the Universe's message to you at that moment.
Some parts would've really benefited from more details, for example a few instances where the author refers to their private experiences - some more context to their particular experience might've made the insight less opaque - but to each their own level of privacy, plus I understand not wanting to cloud the reader's judgement with too much information that might stop them from seeing their forest and their trees. Still, I'd say the author could also use this book as the first draft of another work where he'd go into much more detail about what he means and the message he wants to impart

There’s tons of valuable insights, helpful perspectives, and deep understandings in ‘Starlight.’ It swaps between poetic Rumi-esque writings and psychological self-help writings a la Scott Peck or Tony Robbins.

Some of the sections were quite exceptional and either reminded me of something I’d let grow foggy, moved me to a powerful emotion, or taught me something new… which (possibly due to me having read so many books) is rare for a book to do. Overall, I was quite pleased.

That said, in the spirit of giving a balanced review, I'll say that although I enjoyed this book, I can see people who prefer more practical, "how-to" style content or those who prefer systemized step-by-step approaches to self-improvement, Starlight may not be for them.

The author has organized it reasonably well, but ultimately it's a bunch of separate sections, thoughts, and concepts loosely connected thematically, and will suit more creative, 'organic' readers who don't need excess hand-holding.

Regardless, some of the sections were so impactful that they made me want to show them to a friend, knowing instinctively that it would help them, and for the price, even one of those sections would be worth it, IMHO.

I just finished reading this book, and as a physician with over 50 years of clinical experience, I was blown away! I have always had a strong interest in neuroscience—the science of the brain, and a strong background in biology and basic science. Robledo has opened the spiritual side of life in a way I couldn’t have imagined. I view his excellent book as a guidebook through the spiritual world. He opened my eyes to topics and areas I had missed entirely in my 76 years on this planet.

He broke up the topics in a way that seemed to target me personally. However, some were more germane than others. I found helpful meaning in each concept. He also provided a roadmap for using each insight in a practical way that made it relatively easy to incorporate it into my busy and sometimes chaotic life. I have also returned to various sections of the book addressing a particular life challenge.

I loved reading, and this book is now at the top of my list of useful, excellent books I have read over the years. It’s a must-read to understand your proper place in this world!

It is nicely poetic, though I find the contents lacking real graspable, actionable points of leverage against my own problems. There are about 50 passages in this book that I would get behind, but to awaken Starlight within while in grueling situations that leave you drained, unfocused and gritting your teeth daily require real, workable specifics.

The author is impressive, as he asked me what I think. He wanted to hear what others had to say. This shows he seeks out knowledge, not just preaching, but also living his truth. That's deserving of praise for sure!

I like to solve my problems as soon as they arise and don't mind getting dirty in the process. Starlight, while one of the better works of art, doesn't quite give me the fuel for my deeds. Some of the things this book says cause me profound suffering because other people act upon it.

1 out of 5 stars.
The work is not BAD, but it's just not functional!

Shimmer and Shine in Your Starlight

This book’s subtitle proclaims that it is “heartfelt wisdom.” That much is certainly true. The author explains in the introduction how these insights have helped him improve his mental attitude and strength, which have ultimately helped him live a better life in greater appreciation of all it has to offer. This book is jam-packed with delightful nuggets and takeaways, some brief and some long. I actually recommend, if you listen to the audiobook, to pause it often and perhaps even take some time away to fully digest what the author states. So much of nonfiction these days is assisted by AI. This book does not feel to be so, and in that fact alone, it feels refreshing. Highly enjoyable and recommended.

I received a promo code for this audiobook and a free eBook, but that did not affect my review.

I got to hear about this book when the author introduced me to it. I am grateful that he was kind and trusted me with a copy of it, and it's in alignment with what the book is all about. Thank you Isaac for sharing the Starlight with me.
This book to me, was more like snippets of aha moments, of the subtle reminders about life, purpose, joy, service, love, honor-everything you would experience at some point in life, in words. Funny, though, it reminded me of having a conversation with a good friend and mentor and leaving it feeling light, at ease and hopeful.
I sincerely hope that other readers would be enlightened by it.

I was given a free copy of this book for a review.

My thoughts - the book is very well written and thought out. The author has a lot of invaluable insights that I was able to personally resonate with, as someone who has a lot of mental/emotional struggles.

I did not intend to read this a few pages per day but since I have not got much time I had to. That is surprisingly the way it should be read, in my opinion. Lots of insights that are kind of connected but each is a stand alone and has great explanation.

This is a kind of self-help book you can recommend to a close friend who needs a bit of pep talk and is getting a bit disheartened.

I was given a copy of this book to review

I really enjoyed this book. As others have said, it's not the sort of book that you read from cover to cover. I found it best to read an essay and if it resonates with you, read it again, take notes, meditate on it then spend time digesting what the essay presented and ideally journaling on the theme.

This book will provide you with opportunities to expand your thinking regardless of how far you are on your journey.

This book is really good at helping us stop, pause, and reflect on all the chaos that goes on within our minds and lives. I truly believe this book can be extremely valuable for everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, belief, sexuality, etc., so very inclusive. It is also very relevant to each one of us regardless of where in the world we might be living and which generation we belong to.

The book's greatest strength, in my opinion, was its ability to connect with readers on a personal and emotional level. The author's writing was poetic and beautiful, and it conveyed a sense of wisdom and empathy that was truly profound. The insights were well-crafted and thought-provoking. A perfect read to lift you up!

A wonderful book to remind you of the truth of WHO you are, so magical and unique. It takes you into the depths of letting go of what's not you, and ascending into new growth as you learn to love and accept these parts of you; to embrace EVERYTHING you've come to experience. Thank you, to the author for giving me the opportunity to allow the wisdom in these pages to simmer within me.

Received as a gift from Hidden Gems, don't read this cover to cover, but rather take your time and savor, and give it a lot of thought. There's a lot to unpack in here! I truly enjoyed it.

It’s a good book of self realization.

It goes all over all your life of experiences .. some good.. some bad.. it’s looking into your self… realizing your not wrong..

It’s Life! You have too learn from your own life mistakes and triumphs…. Happiness and Sadness..

Winning and losing things… frustration and achievements

This book explains how to manage all that…

Actually.. it’s book of helping you self realize what you always knew all of your self!

It’s a book to find your self.. it’s a book of looking inside you…

Star Light within You!

Your inner Light!

The importance of self-awareness and mindfulness... This book really highlights this.
It encourages us to let go of our desires and ego-driven independence to discover deeper truths about ourselves. By embracing the impermanence of life and practising selflessness, it offers a meaningful path to living fully.

I see books as falling into two categories: those you can breeze through and those you need to take your time with. This one definitely belongs to the latter! I spent a couple of months with it, wanting to soak in every insight and reflect on each section before moving on.

What I loved most was the author’s personal touch. Their stories made the concepts feel relatable, almost like chatting with a wise uncle who has so much to share.

While I enjoyed the narrative style, I think adding some footnotes or references could deepen the experience even more, especially given the topics covered.

Overall, this book is a wonderful and at some points poetic source of wisdom that invites you to pause, reflect, and grow.
