They live among us. They live within us. As entities made of pure energy, the Elbie must have human hosts to survive on Earth. For some people, being a host is a great benefit. For others, it is a nightmare.

Lysandra, a headstrong mercenary, gives no thought to either side until she is hired by the Elbie that want her brother. Separated at birth, Lysandra and Brendan grew up living very different lives. She is a successful career criminal and he works for a branch of Homeland Security known as the Department of Planetary Affairs. A reunion is not something she ever wanted and now cannot escape.

Esben, the man who hired her, has been an Elbie host for years. Lysandra is important to the Elbie for one reason; they need Brendan and he will do anything for his sister. As Esben attempts to compel Lysandra to their cause, he realizes that while it’s Brendan they need, it’s Lysandra he wants.

Lysandra has lived her entire life loyal only to herself, but now, trapped between her brother’s doting attention and Esben’s determined interest, she must choose between saving her brother and betraying him.

Creating is really a process of discovery. I feel like my characters and worlds already exist and I am just coming across them like an explorer in an undiscovered country. I really enjoy figuring out who these people are, why they do what they do, and helping them get out of their predicaments. Like many writers I am an observer of what happens. I don’t know where the story is going. My characters name themselves, get angry about things I didn’t expect, and perform acts of compassion out of nowhere. I am a recorder of events and I love it.

I have to admit that sci-if type stories are not the type I actively pursue when obtaining books to read. When this book was provided for me to read and review, I began reading it with doubts about whether I would like it or not.

This begins with several different characters with their individual stories being told. You have Brandon who is tired frequently related to the nanites. There is Eriksson who is in charge and is military as well. He had served as a 'host' in the past. (I think I would have liked to know more about the time he served as a host...how did it come about, what happened that he was able to gain possession of his body back. The story briefly discusses how he wanted to lobotomies himself, but it never states what actually occurred.). There is Lysandra, who is of the criminal element. Moshe works with a group of hackers for 'The Company' to crack security codes and obtain information for different groups they are contracted to. This is another area where the author could have elaborated more...All the different times The Company is mentioned, then he never actually elaborates on The company again. What happened to Nick, Billy, etc.? The reader gets that she is a tough, self-reliant woman, but it would be nice to gain more of her upbringing (the author alludes to her father being harsh, etc., but it would be nice to know more of what actually happened. What did her father do to her (other than split her from her twin brother, Brandon, and older brother, Robert). By the same token, you know that Brandon and Robert had a much happier upbringing, in spite of an absentee mother.

Anyway, the story refers to Brandon, Kristy, Matt, and Derek being The Four. This is due to their discovery of the fallen meteor and having been hosts.

This is a very good story with a very enjoyable plot line. The loss experienced in the end is balanced somewhat by the happiness attained (somewhat) of Lysandra in the end.

I one-clicked this book on Amazon, the blurb sounded interesting. And it was, I liked the concept and it had a few interesting twists and turns. But to me there was something lacking. Not much, I can’t really put my finger on it, but just enough to make my frown my eyebrows. It was kind of like eating a meal, but not really sure if you’re full or not. But it could just be me. Other then that, it was an interesting read and very entertaining.

Summary: Sorry I just never got into this book and found it a chore to read, shame because it seemed to have a lot of interesting elements, but it just didn't work for me

Plotline: Convoluted, nothing wrong here

Premise: Interesting premise

Writing: Interesting characters but ...

Ending: Sorry, but glad I had no more pages to turn

Pace: Never a dull moment!

Throughout most of this book, I was confused. There were many things I wanted elaboration on and did not get. There were situations I wanted explained, but instead I just got obscure allusions to aftermath. Even at the ending, I still felt like too much was unexplained.

I was slammed with characters. It was difficult for me to keep track of everyone, especially since most were underdeveloped. It didn't help that one "body" would have two names because it had two entities.

And I guess there was a semi-love story thrown in at the end. I thought it was unnecessary, weak, and not compelling in the least bit.

I felt like this was a thriller with a sci-fi backdrop. There were so many actions and turns and twists, that it probably could have been fun to read that way. But with the addition of the aliens that were poorly fleshed out, it flopped.

I was given a free copy of this book through Goodreads. I found that while it was a little difficult to follow the characters I couldn't help but enjoy this book.
