On the Island #1

Totally Wrecked

Rate this book
I owe my sister big time, but seriously, isn't there any other way I can repay her? My identical twin sister is currently dominating the "Champion of the World" leaderboard, a year-long TV reality show that spans the globe. But now, she's broken her leg and needs me to become Brooke 'Action' Jackson for one installment of the program. But while she's all about CrossFit, I'm more of a cross stitch girl. And here I am, heading off to a tropical island for a week of mental and physical challenges. And right from the start Brooke is giving me extra problems. Seems she conveniently "forgot" to mention her steamy affair with the show's host, and her escapades with the sound guy. So when I’m marooned on a deserted island one day later with five (exceedingly hot) men and a nine-year old girl, I guess it's time to tell everyone my name is not Brooke Action Jackson, I don’t have a ton of survival skills and... ...I’m just Daisy. The children’s librarian. ♥Fans of Lily Gold and Emily Rath are sure to love this wild reverse harem adventure filled with titillating turns and suspenseful twists.♥

Right off the bat, he has previously slept with her twin sister.

Which isn’t a deal breaker in books, if the MMC doesn’t talk about it/ talk about it in DETAIL and makes it weird.
Guess who KEPT mentioning fecking (he’s Irish) her twin and made it weird for me.

👇🏼Spoilers 👇🏼

Examples :
(Inner monologue)
‘We hooked up and boned like rabbits for a couple of nights. She was extremely demanding and athletic’.

Was this needed, probably not

(He says this ‘poetry’ out loud)
"Daisy, sweet Daisy. I understand why you might be thrown off by me shagging your sister, but it was just that - shagging.
What I want to do to you isn't just shagging, it's..." he pauses, looking confused. "Daisy, I want to give you the sweet loving you deserve.”

I don’t really wanna go into the above paragraph, but yeah.

I just didn’t warm to Killian (the one who slept with her sister).

No.1. He says weird shit.
I think at times it’s meant to come across like he’s the ‘dream man’, but it just sounds cheesy. Another example (I am going to cool it on the examples),
“I love learning about amazing women who are overlooked in history." Of course you do.

No.2. The dude is intense. He’s slept with her once and is talking about giving her his grandmas ring, as well as how far it is the commute to each other. Pump the brake, let’s breathe.

I am honestly really sad I didn’t enjoy this, because the writers note at the start of the book was really funny and I wanted to love it. It also combined my two favourite tropes ‘Why Choose’ and anything to do with ‘survival’. I read ‘on the island’ a while ago and did really enjoyed that book. This just didn’t hit.

I do have positive….

Leander is very sweet and humorous. If the whole book was just Leander, I would be happy with that. The other 2 men Rex and Gray are a little forgettable.

The introduction of Keyara was also a welcomed surprise. I wasn’t sure how having a child around was going to fit into the ‘why choose’ aspect of it. It felt a little weird. However, she was really cute and I enjoyed the moments where she bonded with the FMC over books or the MMC’s babied her.

I’m glad the rhyming thing stopped, I don’t think I could have dealt with that quirkiness throughout.

I did stop reading at 50%. I kind of pushed through to this point, but it just isn’t the book for me. I read something the other day that said if men in real life said to you what they say in book, how would you respond? I feel like it hit home with this read, because I would run 🏃🏻‍♀️🫣

I did an eenie meany between 2 and 3 stars for the rating. I liked the guys, I liked the set up. I didn’t like the sister or the fact that she’s involved with guys her sister has slept with. Killian says feck a lot. The bad guy was obvious and I hated how much of a smarmy prick he was. The guy way they left him out to sea was open ended.

I didn’t like the sister. I was expecting her to pop up for a rescue, but I guess her leg isn’t healed. She knew what she was sending her sister into and was fine with it. Then there’s the competition set up where she gave her sister a bit to be humiliated by their father over and over? Given how naive Daisy was, it feels like her sister set her up. Dunno, why she did the favour was left in a who cares way.

The whole victim blaming and their entire relationship pissed me off. The guys though were sweet and add in the niece and there’s an already made family. I did like how Daisy knew how to survive, but the whole thing was overshadowed by Harvey and the sister. I am curious so will probably give the second half a go, but yeah, bounced between 2 and 3 stars.

‘Totally Wrecked’ by Nicky Shivers is fun, action packed, dangerous, and has an amazing cast of characters. Daisy is on an adventure she is in no way comfortable with: subbing in for twin who’s a staple on a survival show. She’s a librarian, not as fit, and doesn’t have much of a sex life. The exotic setting is beautiful and Killian with that sexy Irish accent makes her first night an experience to remember.

Nicky has such a unique style of narrative and dialogue that you laugh, cry, and get angry with the characters as they feel all kinds of emotions. Daisy attracts the attention of Rex, Gray, and Leander as well as Killian and as the story develops they become more enamored with each other. Scary moments when they’re shipwrecked and she has to deal with her sister’s vile partner/ friend. Nicky’s steamy scenes are so good. I can’t wait for the next part!!.

Why choose + survival = !!!

I really liked this book! It was a page turner, I stayed up too late reading it. The guys all have conflicting personalities which makes their interactions super interesting. I really enjoyed the survival aspects as well as the character interactions. The writing style is snappy. Five stars.

Honestly, I wasn't necessarily able to enjoy this book, but it may be a fit for someone looking for a group being stuck on the island.

This book follows Daisy, who is the identical twin sister of an action filled reality TV Star, Brooke. What happens when she replaces Brooke for a while and ends up stuck on an island?

I have never been a fan of the guys sleeping with the sister before, that's never made me feel comfortable. However it came to a point that I just wasn't able to be absorbed into the book. Personally, it was very well written but this book definitely felt like it was missing something to draw readers in.

I would recommend if you're looking for a series long reverse harem.

I rarely pick up reverse harem novels; they're not particularly my thing. I also don't like "to be continued" novels because I feel like readers deserve an ending. An overarching storyline in a series is fine, but a book's main characters deserve resolution within its covers (IMHO). That said, after reading an excerpt, I found myself drawn in.

The plot is actually a nice surprise. Instead of focusing on the switched identities or reality show theme, it revolves around a group of people in a real survival situation becoming a close-knit team. In all honesty, I'm not sure all the free love stuff is integral to the plot; just reading about how they survive day to day is interesting. I suppose if, in real life, a young woman found herself in a deserted island with several healthy young men, sex would become a thing, but some of the couplings here seem out of character for Daisy, who is supposedly a little awkward and shy. To that end, I'm grateful that the group includes a nine year old because everyone's first and foremost care for the girl adds a ton of substance that's totally separate (thankfully) from sexy time.

I read this book as an ARC, and the initial blurb indicated the book had both an HEA and a TBC, but it's really a TBC. I'm not sure if I would have picked it up had I known that. Now, however, I'm compelled to read book 2, which hopefully will be the conclusion to this story.

The book does need a hard edit; as an ARC, it's not surprising that there are formatting and basic grammar issues. However, as a former English teacher and tech editor and a current tech writer, I can't let plural/apostrophe confusion slide. One or two? Typos. Consistent mistake throughout? Yeah... no.

I received an ARC of this book for free from the author and BookSirens. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

OMG I actually loved this so much. I don't know why, but I went into it having very low expectations. And how dare me, because this was so good! It deserves wayyyy more hype.

Honestly, I think I was expecting it to be super smut-heavy with zero plot. And while there was some spice, it was actually pretty low on the smut scale. The plot really shined bright!

I really appreciated the first half of the island experience being split in two groups. That helped the pacing immensely. And honestly, the general island survival vibes were on point. I am a serious sucker for that trope, and this delivered.

I also appreciated that the Harvey drama and aftermath wasn't super drawn out. I am eager to see if he makes a reappearance.

End of the first book and we're at MMFM (which let me tell you, I was SO happy when I figured out there was going to be some sword crossing!), with another M blossoming. For a group that size, and with the warning at the beginning of the book, I was really expecting more sex. There was some, and it was explicit, but it was not the focus at all. Some scenes even ended up being FTB. I'm assuming the sex will ramp up in the next book now that they've got their shelter all situated and seem to be in a good place survival-wise.

There were some editing errors, but not enough to be a distraction from the VERY engaging plot. Seriously about to go blast this out to all my book groups because this is the perfect summery read!!!

Can't wait to jump into the next one!

Life Without Happy Endings???

Ok, so first impression….pooooor Daisy 🤦🏻‍♀️ This woman is a tiny fish thrown into a big pond in the middle of a tornado lol, and all because her twin sister needs her to swap places with her on a reality show. Can we say no 2 twins could be more opposite? Sounds like a recipe for disaster right? Oh man, Daisy wishes that were the least of her problems. From the very first chapter her character just sucked me in, and each one after that just solidified how much I wanted to see her get a HEA with men who truly appreciate all of her quirks & unique qualities. The good news is, she does….the bad news? They’re stuck on a deserted island with no rescue in sight. Sounds like the story is just about Daisy loving on her guys & trying to survive daily deserted island life…right? Nooooope! There are all sorts of twists & turns, as well as plenty of drama. I was so engrossed in the story that the ending just kind of snuck up on me 🤦🏻‍♀️😭🤷🏻‍♀️😂 I neeeeed to know what happens to these people, cause I need Daisy & her guys to all be happy together, preferably on the island AND after they hopefully get rescued 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 I also realllllly need to know why Daisy owed her sister such a big favor 🤔🤨 I can’t wait for the next book, and I’m so thankful that we don’t have to wait long 🙌🏻

I do not know how I managed to get a copy of this before it was released (I think it was via a Facebook group). I actually really enjoyed it. The book is a why choose romance set on an island. The FMC takes the place of her twin sister to compete in a games show. She meets 3 of the MMCs on the boat to the remote island and one of the MMCs prior to the journey. But sadly their boat does not make it.

Now I will be honest we were at 40% and the group with split in two and I did wonder how we would get to the end with the group being together and have some group sexy time (if you catch my drift) but I had not realised there was a second book coming out.

The plot was good in that its kinda like a smutty version of the tv show lost. This book is quick paced in that I think it covers roughly a month of them being on the island but there are a few instances where you don’t know the time has jumped until something is mentioned. It doesn’t make it clear the time jump has happened if that makes sense.

The end of the book sets it up nicely to hopefully get some questions answered and also some group sexy time (I know… I know…. But I love a group experience 🤪) cannot wait for book 2.

Arc Review:

As soon as I saw this was a why choose romance I knew I had to read it! I LOVE a good why choose, it’s my favorite book trope! I fell in love with all the characters! I just love Daisy! I love how needy and corky she is! I love Leander! He’s like a breath of fresh air! He’s sooo funny! I laughed so much with some of things he said. And I love me a good Irish man! Mr Killian! He’s so sweet and affectionate and not afraid of his feelings and did I mention a Jacob’s ladder Grey just seems dark and mysterious and I love that he just has this urge to take care of Daisy! And Rex, I’m super excited to see where him and Daisy’s relationship goes! I loved the suspense of the ship wreck… then being separated on different islands… and working together to come together (no punt intended) lol I just love that they all love each other.

This is my first read by Nicky and it won’t be the last! I honestly just ate this book up and I cannot wait for book number 2! Thank you for sharing this book with me!

3.5 Stars - Totally Wrecked by Nicky Shivers is the first book in the On the Island series. It's a reverse harem and contains MMFM. This book features Daisy and the men that become her love interests. The bulk of the story takes place on the island they become marooned on.

Totally Wrecked held my attention but I got a little tired of the day to day on the island. I wanted more intensity in the romance and a more compelling plot. One thing I didn't care for was the short flashbacks. I found it jarring to the storyline.

I liked Daisy and found her to be a good female lead. She's kind-hearted, genuine, a little silly and a bit nerdy. I appreciated that she didn't drag out telling the truth.

Overall, I liked Totally Wrecked.

This book was right up my alley!

Spice, drama, and plot twists.

The book started off with swapping places. Daisy has to pretend to be her sister for a reality tv show. There is some big reason that Daisy feels like she owes her sister and agrees to this.

We then see her learn that swapping may not have been a good idea.

Then a plot twist (I don’t want to give it away) where we learn more about the other traveling with them. Some good, some bad, and some in between.

Daisy slowly shares who she is and even more plot twist and drama comes about.

We slowly learn to love and to hate the people Daisy is with. But we still have not learned why Daisy switched with her sister!

I loved everything about this book! I can not wait and I literally mean I can not wait for the next book to come out. Such a cliff hanger!

★ “Meemaw had a saying which was, ‘peace without truth is poison’.” ★

—>>> Daisy had no choice but to take her twin sister’s place in a reality show and “fake it until she makes it” for her, but a shipwreck puts everyone’s lives at stake and the truth of her duplicity becomes very hard for her to maintain. She admirably manages to hold her own somehow with all the others she is stranded with, but many, many challenges are ahead for all, both mental and physical, and it is taking all she has to hold it all together and not spill the beans. The men are all drawn to her as she digs deep to make the best of the situation for all with their collective survival skills until they can be saved…hopefully. Great start to this series, looking forward to more with Daisy and her guys…and that just dues will be served!

I could not have loved this series more! ❤️

This duet series had everything that I love and adore…

Multiple POVs ✔️
Why choose ✔️
Amazing storyline ✔️
Characters you really relate to ✔️

I’m always searching for books off the beaten path that aren’t those being hawked on booktok or bookstagram and let me tell you I just loved these books and read them both in one day. Everything made sense and I do mean everything. There were no loose ends, no wondering what happened to so and so, no it was all wrapped up by the end and I could not have been happier with the epilogue and the HEA for this group of people and I mean ALL the characters in this book, not just the main ones. Bravo Nicky Shivers 👏👏👏 I am now a follower of yours going forward! Thank you for sharing your gift with us humble folks.

I wonder if the author changed the book after the various reviews saying it was gross the Irish guy slept with both twins.. because I just finished it and Killian only kissed Brooke. They make sure to say that multiple times.

“I take another sip of whisky and try to think of an easy way to say, ‘hey, remember when we almost banged last year?’ but fail completely. I guess I’ll just remind her of the first time we met.”

““Brooke told me she had an identical twin. She told me the night we made out in Alaska.””

“Killian actually grins. “You eejit. Brooke and I weren’t a thing at all. She was looking for… some release, and I was drunk. But we actually never did more than snog in a stairwell.”

Either way, I thought the book was kinda corny and boring. The premise seemed fun, but it was just okay. For being a smut book, one of the guys has his first ever MM experience and it’s not really even detailed. The chapter ends and later he just says he gave his first beej. The FMC is always annoyingly down on herself and I don’t get the purpose of the niece being there.

Really enjoyed this one! My main issue was the misrepresentation of what bisexuality is. The author seems to be under the false impression that bisexuality is transphobic and also that it excludes nonbinary people but that is very much not true and it bothers me that others may read this not knowing better and believe it too. Other than that, it seems a lot of reviewers read a prior draft as the version I read doesn’t have that love interest going on about sleeping with her sister. In fact, he explicitly says he didn’t sleep with her sister. So I’m glad that was changed because I would have dropped down two more stars if that was a plot point 😅

All that being said, this felt like such a unique story and felt nostalgic to me as I really love the movie that was referenced and that it felt like a nod to. I can’t wait to see how things develop in the sequel!

This is book 1 in Shivers On the Island series and is a TBC read - so please know that going in - that once you start of this journey Shivers will captivate you and you'll be compelled to continue on as we are introduced to a great cast of characters in this book. Well written with the focus being on this cast of characters in a survival setting. Obviously based on the blurb you read, you know there are twists and turns that arise. I thought this was well written with a captivating storyline that flows smoothly. Amazing characters and definitely leaves the reader wanting more. Can't wait to see what Shivers will deliver in book 2!

This story will grab you attention and keep it while it thoroughly entertains you. Daisy initially comes off as crazy and ditzy as she spouts ridiculous rhymes and is inappropriate at the meet and greet.

The story really gets addictive once the boat has an engine explosion and everyone ends up in the Pacific Ocean. The characters are unique and well developed. Rex, Gray and Leander are former wild land fire fighter teammates; and Keyara is the daughter of Rex’s cousin and an amazing and sweet 9 year old. Killian is an Irish sound guy who previously hooked up with Daisy’s sister while filming in Alaska. Harvey is Daisy’s secret ongoing hookup and a creepy and nasty character.

The group has one unbelievable experience after another which totally hooked me into the storyline. There are multiple physical connections among the group which keeps things really interesting.

It does end on a mild cliffhanger and will continue in the next book which releases in about a month. I’m looking forward to what’s next for this group!

I tried, I really did, mainly because I read Ellie Pond's Wrecked series & really liked it. This Duet was under you might like for having read that series. This book started out well enough but eventually became more tell than show. There'd be a blip of a mention of something kinda significant & bam, time jump. The spice was mediocre at best when it was present. I think the addition of Harvey was just to create pointless/unnecessary angst/drama. I liked the 8yr old niece but not for this Duet, if they weren't on a deserted island I would've liked the addition of her character more. I found it disturbing because not only was Daisy naked a lot around her but Leander was at least twice. The characters were alright.

Totally Wrecked is my first read by Nicky Shivers and it wont be my last. One of my favorite tropes is why choose with a great plot, good chemistry and spice.

Daisy finds herself in quite a pickle after swapping places with her twin and going on a reality tv show. Things don’t go according to plan when the unexpected happens and she finds herself on an island with 4 incredibly hot men, 1 jerk and an amazingly sweet little girl.

The story starts out a little slow and then your thrown into the depths and sucked in. I’m excited for book 2 as there’s still a lot of unanswered questions and I don’t think that’s the last of Mr. Bannister….

So much fun! I love a good why choose in extreme situations (dystopian/zombie/ship wreck), and this one didn’t disappoint. Of course that they have it easy and the whole ‘being left in an island’ is sugar coated, but it was fun anyways.

Overall I like the characters, the mmcs are very different from one another, and have interesting backgrounds. And I like the fmc, she’s so sweet. I also enjoy the sense of mystery about her and I look forward to see how that unfolds in the next book.

The whole sister thing is kinda weird for me tbh, but I could look pass that and still enjoy the book. An important thing is that there is a trigger warning for SA in this book!

Read this as an ARC. Super cute read. Daisy is pretending to be her sister and taking her place on a survivor type show. Too bad they’re completely opposite. When the ship wrecks and she’s stranded on a deserted tropical island with Killian, Leander, Gray, Rex and his niece Keyara, and the host Harvey (that her sisters been boinking), does she stay hidden as Brooke or reveal herself.
There’s not much character growth so far. But a lot has been revealed about their pasts. I expect there will be more in the next book. Especially after that tumultuous ending.

When I saw this announced I read the blurb and saw that the fmc has my hobby so I knew I had to read it. I also love the fact book 2 is already up for preorder and releases next month so I applaud the author on that. I love Daisy as she is relatable for me and yes she's insecure but now she is on an island with hot guys who think she is her twinsister. I love how the story flows and the author working on the characters feeling like real people. I can't wait for book 2 at least so I am a fan for sure here.

ARC REVIEW

I really enjoyed the concept of the book with them being shipwrecked and that leading to forced proximity.

I do think the book needs another round of edits. Certain concepts were a little rushed and some were overly drawn out. Not to the point of disliking the book, but just a preference.

I am also all for MM romance, but this felt like it was kind of thrown in there on a whim and it made me sad. If this is going to be included in the book then it needs to have a full scale development and not just something added to make it "spicier".

Daisy is covering for her identical twin on a survivor like reality show. Daisy isn’t really the adventurous, athletic type; she more intellectual and crafty. As if things don’t go from bad to worse suddenly they are stranded on an island. Daisy has to confess that she isn’t Brooke and won’t be able to do the things her sister could. In the midst of this Daisy is involved with four men. This isn’t a typical why choose book. This story has lots of drama and suspense and it ends on a cliffhanger. I really enjoyed this book and the dynamics between Daisy and her men.

I put off reading this book for a long time, because I was worried it was not going to be as good as I wanted it to be. It was way better than I wanted it to be. All characters are well developed, the pacing is fantastic, and it hits on lots od fun tropes. Like other readers, I was initially annoyed by Killian’s backstory, but then I realized it was being used as a foil for Harvey, and the author’s choice made way more sense. I’m glad I didn’t quit too early to discover how great this book and this author are.

I need to say there is definitely a sequel situation trigger in this book and if you have a hard time with them this isn't the book for you if not then this book was awesome even with the cliffhanger! I totally had a x rated parent trap type of vibe. This book had me laughing and crying at points with a are you seriously ending now at the end. I would definitely recommhappy reading.
