Brigid and Carwyn know the identity of the kidnapper of 15 year-old Lucas O'Hara, but Zasha Sokholov's motivation for abducting Lucas is a mystery they are racing to unravel. As the clock ticks toward the deadline, with the innocent boy's life in the balance, Brigid and Carwyn must find his location before time is up.
Carwyn's soul deep honor paired with Brigid's innate drive to protect the innocent make them the best at what they do. Carwyn has been a favorite of mine from the first book in the Elemental Mysteries series, and I just love him more in each book. Brigid tore my heart out in this series as she has come to terms with her immortality, addiction, and purpose. I loved seeing her confidence in this book! I've been curious about Zasha Sokholov's interest in Brigid since their first interaction, but will admit that I was wrong in my supposition. No spoilers, so that's all I will share about that.
Lucas, the human son of the vampire masters of Las Vegas, stole the show for me; genius intellect, impressive strategist, and obsessed with chess, yet with the typical weaknesses of a teen boy. He is observant, clever, and although he has been raised by vampires, is a bit too trusting. I enjoyed Lucas' observations about Brigid and Carwyn and their roles in the conflict with Zasha. I hope to see more of him!
Elizabeth Hunter's ability to weave together threads from past books, new mysteries to be solved, and intricate world building, while still creating a story that is accessible to a new reader is extraordinary. Bishop's Flight is no exception. So if you haven't read any of the previous books, just jump in! You won't regret it, but will likely binge more books in the Elemental Universe...fair warning!
I received an advance copy from the author. I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
