Two years ago, a trendy diet drink called SlimPro left my world in ruins. The Contamination turned people like my mom and dad into violent, shambling creatures. Now, the rehabilitated ones are being sent home with shock collars connected to their brains to control their aggressive impulses.
Or kill them.
My little sister Opal and I are surviving, but every day feels like a battle. And now, things are getting worse. The Sanitarium is taking people away to experiment on them, trying to find a cure. But what if the doctors running the experiments aren't trying to save us? What if the real threat isn't the "Connies," the government, or the doctors?
What if it's me?
For fans of The Last of Us, The Girl with All the Gifts, and The Forest of Hands and Teeth, Contaminated is a heart-wrenching tale of love and determination, where the power of human connection can mean the difference between life and death.
With reviews like "Alarmingly realistic and absolutely unputdownable" from USA Today best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout and " This book had me crying in public" from award-winning author Jeri Smith-Ready, readers won't want to miss this riveting and relentless adventure.
If I could rate this book more than 5 stars god knows I would. Makes me soo sad that more people haven’t read this. The creativity and attention to detail, the well thought out, fleshed out, and well-executed world building, the fast paced, suspenseful, imaginative plot, the emotive language used to create such detailed, heartbreaking scenes (felt like I was right there with them), the complex, well developed, multidimensional characters (especially the MC), the gripping, suspenseful action, the devastating moments of grief, fear and loss, the resilience of Velvet with just the perfect amount of REAL to her character i.e. the anxiety, frustration, and wanting to give up so many times. Basically a stunning masterpiece that I wish I could forget so I could reread for the first time again and again.
A diet drink that throws the world into chaos. Could never happen was the way I used to think but right now it seems everyone is using a diabetes drug to lose weight, never thinking about side effects or long term issues. Thin is in.
I’m always thin but I see the attraction of an easy to drink drug. Read this with an open mind and see how you feel. I felt like it could possibly happen.
5 stars FOR A SCI FI THRILER! I dont really think this novel is a total 5 star read. It’s not incredibly groundbreaking, but I have read and hated a lot of Sci Fi and this one really did manage to keep my attention and keep the story moving. I like the pace and the writing style and overall found it enjoyable. So if you like sci fi, you should like this!
Really enjoyed it, definitely more of a young adult feel, but still a pretty good story. Interesting kind of zombie similar to something 28 days later with rage virus, though I do think the virus and government were a bit cartoonish or over done in their depictions. Characters were typical, adults are stupid, young isn’t type. But still enjoyable, even if it felt silly at times.
