Daniel Lamm wants to be somebody in the worst way. He therefore takes up boxing to achieve his dreams of fame and fortune. But when a journalist who ridiculed Daniel in the press is found murdered, Daniel becomes the obvious suspect and a different fight begins — the fight to find the real culprit and prove Daniel’s innocence.

Fancy's Favorite is the seventh book in the Jewish Regency Mystery series, a refreshingly different look at Regency England which combines lovably quirky characters with a generous dash of humor.

I am a mystery writer and explorer of Jewish history who was born in Kansas and now lives in Jerusalem.

The first book in my Ezra Melamed/Jewish Regency Mystery Series, The Disappearing Dowry, was named a Sydney Taylor Notable Book for 2010. Other books in the Jewish Regency Mystery Series, which revolves around Regency London's Jewish community, include The Moon Taker (2015) The Doppelganger's Dance (2013) Tempest in the Tea Room (2012), and Jewish Regency Mystery Stories (2015).

I also work as a journalist, where I frequently write about Jewish history. A topic dear to my heart is the Anusim - Spanish Jews who were forced to convert during the Middle Ages and who became the target of the Spanish Inquisition. My novel about modern-day descendants of Anusim living in Catalonia, Terra Incognita, was published by Targum Press in 2010 and is now available as an ebook and paperback at Amazon.com, etc.

My other books include The Banished Heart, a novel about Shakespeare's writing of The Merchant of Venice; Day Trips to Jewish History, a collection of essays about lesser known people and places in Jewish history; and several ebooks for the Jewish holidays, including: Choose Life! 8 Chassidic Stories for the Jewish New Year, 36 Candles: Chassidic Tales for Chanukah, Pass Over to Freedom: 15 Jewish Tales for Passover, and The World Is Built With Kindness: 15 Chassidic Tales for Shavuos, which bring Chassidic masters such as the Baal Shem Tov and Zusya of Hanipoli into the eReader era.

another charmer

This series is an absolute delight, and Fancy’s Favorite is no exception. Starring General Well’ngone, it follows the fortunes and misfortunes of Daniel Lamm, the “second Daniel”, as he hopes to make his name in boxing. Historically detailed (boxing was a big deal in England in the early 1800s, and there were indeed Jewish boxers) with a murder plot involving some unsavory members of the gentry, some nasty journalism, and our favorite pickpockets. As always, I greatly enjoyed my visit to Gravel Lane on the poor side of town.

This was the best one yet! I was totally hooked and read until way too late! Great and compelling mystery! And I am completely attached to General Well'ngone. The more of these books I read, the more I want to redemptive story for him! I can hardly stand the thought of him spending his life on the streets. Absolutely loving this series!

I really enjoyed the whole series of the Jewish regency era crime mystery stories. I especially liked the ones narrated by General Welln'gone. What fun and delightful dialog! The author really does keep you guessing as to who done it with all the multitude of characters. It would make a good movie similar to Oliver Twist but not a musical of course.

Good read

This was an enjoyable read, a good mystery with no smut or gore. A refreshing change from other mystery books.
