It Should Have Been You

Rate this book
A decade of distance, a lifetime of secrets, and an attraction that refuses to fade…

Beth was only looking for one last night of adventure when she met Logan, just before her departure for an internship in London. The attraction between them was undeniable, and a wild ride on the back of his Harley was a temptation she couldn't resist.

A decade later, a single mother and on the wrong side of an eviction notice, the last person she expects to come barreling into her life is Logan King. With him, he brings an offer of sanctuary from the abusive past she’s running from.

The catch? He’s now her very tempting neighbor.

But time has changed them both. Beth isn't the same woman who walked into Logan's tattoo studio all those years ago, and Logan has his own demons to contend with. Still, the smoldering passion that once ignited between them refuses to be extinguished and soon becomes a wildfire too powerful to ignore.

When the shadows of Beth’s past come back to haunt her, it threatens to shatter everything.

But Logan is no stranger to a fight, and for Beth and her girls, he’s willing to go to war.

tropes: second chance, single mom, right person wrong time, tattoo artist

beth and logan meet in his tattoo shop and their lives are truly changed forever. they spend some time together and have such an incredible connection, but beth is leaving for london soon and this forces them apart to live completely separate from one another.

years and years later they meet again and everything falls back into place. fate brought them back together and they start to see what type of place they can hold in each others lives now, as neighbors. things are so different now and they are totally different people, but that doesn’t stop them from being a perfect fit.

i really enjoyed this book!!! beth and logan are so precious and i’m so proud with how far beth has come. she is so so strong and resilient and she’s an amazing mother for her two kids. i would definitely recommend giving this book a chance!

loved this one

I loved the flash backs and the growth of the couple. I loved the spice. And most of all , we love a protective hero scene and this was all of that and more.

Heroine’s panties had more screen time than the plot, and the hero needed a ‘respect the women’ lesson with sisters and mothers as examples? Absolutely disgusting.

Wow. God I love a second chance romance 😭. But I wasn’t aware of the themes of this book and I have to say they were written really well. Writing about DV isn’t easy but the author handled it with such grace. Logan and Beth love story was such a slow slow burn it killed me but I loved it all the same. I couldn’t put it down, I probably would’ve read it in one day if I didn’t have plans.

Wow… this book gave me all the feels. I was slightly worried about reading a book about domestic violence but the author did such a good job handling such a heavy topic and made it feel not so overwhelming. Would definitely recommend!

this book is so underrated, I loved every single second of it!!!!!!

a whole rollercoaster of emotions, suffering and wholesome moments. these 2 little babies, Hannah and Isabel, were so sweet and the way they bonded with logan was literally everything🥹

I nearly cried at so many scenes, including the reporter at the coffee shop and at the party scenes, the beer bottle scene, the one when they took pictures of their bodies in the studio and the daisy tattoo scene... god, the journal entries were the ones that had my heart and my jaw drop so many times💔💔💔

I wish I can read this book for the first time again🥹🥹🥹 my heart aches for every woman going through what Beth did💔

ARC review: Check the trigger warnings but I loved this book so much. Logan and Beth have my heart and I love them as a couple. To see how much Beth has grown from the beginning of the book all the way to the end shows so much about her strength and her character. I loved Logan’s relationship with the girls it was so sweet. Lauren wrote such a great book I can’t wait for everyone to read it!!

Slow burn with loads of chemistry

First things first:
Spice: 🌶🌶/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 (2/5)
Slow burn
M/F
Standalone
Violence/gore (2/5) (off page)
Tropes: Small town, second chance, mild age gap, trauma survivor, gruff/sunshine, single parent

Premise at its simplest: Main female character is recovering from an extremely brutally abusive marriage with her two small daughters and a man she only spent one afternoon with 10 years ago finds himself unable to walk away.

Thoughts: this story centers heavily on this woman's navigating life away from her abusive husband, working through trauma and PTSD, protecting her children and her heart. And the main male character is a sweet gruff cinnamon roll type guy...bug and tough and dominant but a complete sweet softy when it comes to her and her girls. He's endlessly patient and protective. While the tension and chemistry between them is so thick at times you could cut it with a knife, they don't actually act on it physically until the end of the book, so if you are looking for a book full of spicy scenes, this might not be your jam. Once they finally do burn, they burn. All in all I felt this was well written. I don't know if it's part of an interconnected Standalone series, but if not, I would really like to see Asher and Molly's story... it was devastatingly sad and stole the scene at times. I would like to see Asher work on winning his wife back.

Other than that I can offer a few trigger warnings. If you don't want them stop reading at this point. My review ends here.

I can’t begin to tell you the emotional journey this book took me on. I was right there on the pages with the characters. This was such a beautiful story of healing and finding true love.

Everyone needs to read this book, all of her books.
Laura has a way of telling a story that is raw, passionate, full of emotion and with the perfect amount of humour. She doesn’t shy away from the hard hitting topics but she approaches them with sincerity and compassion.

“Five orgasms? What is he packing down there? A magic wand?”

“That… that’s not going to…” Anticipating my reaction, he says, “It’ll fit.” Okay, then. I guess there are worse ways to die. Goodbye, World.

I love Beth, she is such a strong FMC. Her spirit and confidence is crushed near the beginning of this book and seeing her heal and grow into her character and get back her power, was so beautifully written.

Logan, I can’t say enough about this man. I’m obsessed, madly in love with his character, he has entered into book boyfriend territory, he is a top tier book friend.

“There’s nothing wrong with wanting a man to possess you in the bedroom as long as he always protects you outside of it. The power is yours, baby. Never forget that.”

This is a true slow burn with the spice hitting at the 90% mark and let me tell you, when it finally catches fire it burns so good 🥵. The slow burn is worth the wait because the tension is delicious.

“You’re not a possession. I don’t want to own you in that way. I want to adore you.” A soft kiss. “You’re mine to cherish.” Another kiss sends tingles down my neck, and I lose my breath. “Mine to love.” Another press of his lips against mine. “You’re just... mine.”

Laura approaches her romance books with respect, communication and maturity between the love interests and it makes her books enjoyable to read.

Logan and Beth met one random day when she accompanied her sister to his tattoo parlor and ended up spending a day with him. There was an immediate attraction but she was leaving for London the next day, her eyes and heart full of excitement for the future, so this could be nothing more than an interlude. Little did she know that her life was about to change forever. Ten years later, when least expected they met up again, and immediately their hearts recognized each other. But Beth is not the same young girl with stars in her eyes, she has seen heartache and horror, carrying the scars of an abusive relationship, struggling to build a new life for her and her daughters. Logan also, experienced loss when his young niece died, leaving him and his family devastated. But never could he imagine what she had to endure, so he did what he could, offer her and her kids a place to stay, a chance at a new beginning. And maybe this could be the chance for them they never got before, but before that a lot of healing need to take place. This story is beautifully written, with so much emotion, telling of sorrow, hardships and pain but also of a woman's strength, her courage and her enduring spirit which refused to give up and her determination to show her children the happiness of love, laughter and family. And Logan, her pillar of strength, him determined to be there for her and the girls, looking after them, loving her without saying it. I love this author's books, one of the few whose books I've read twice, she has an amazing talent.

✨️ARC REVIEW✨️

I was excited to be on the arc committee for the first time ever, and this book alone exceed all my expectations. At one point, I was too consumed in the book, that I was actually living in Pine falls.

It Should Have Been You, is definitely going to be my top read for 2023. This book is more than just a romance read, it talks about so many battles that Bethany Rose has to go through in order to grow.

Her strength, her determination to go through everything alone for her girls, it was amazing to read about her journey.

Logan, the ML doesn't dissappoint one bit either. For the first time ever, I dont want him to be real but rather want Beth and Logan to adopt me 🤌🏻

Their chemistry, the tension, their love story everything was off the charts. Both individually and as a couple, they have my heart.

Logan's relationship with the girls, is too pure and special that it melts my heart. Isabel and Hannah are my gal-pals for life!

I was happily consumed in my bubble of Logan, his three pretty girls and Missy and that's where I will be!

It was beautifully written and heart wrenching story nonetheless.

Laura Ashley Gallagher thankyou for introducing me to Beth and Logan.

- “You’re strong like a superhero.”A slow smile begins on the corner of my mouth, but I try to school my features to remain attentive. She stays quiet for another moment, but I don’t interrupt. “Mom is a superhero, but superheroes need someone to protect them too. Do you think you could protect my mom?”

- “I told you I was going to take you on a real date. Dance with me.”

- “Why a daisy?”He looks at me, surprise etching his face. He hadn't expected me to question his choice, but then, there’s always something unspoken between us, an understanding that runs deeper than words.“There were daisies on your dress when we first met.”

- “If you're dating my mom, does that mean you're our dad now?” “I'll be whatever you need me to be. You want me to be your friend, I'll be your friend. You want me to be an annoying kind of uncle, I can do that too. You don’t ever need to feel pressured. I'm not here to replace anyone, but if it's okay with you, I'd be honored to love you like a daughter.”

- “When I started school, a boy made fun of me because I didn't have a dad.” Her confession is a sharp pang in my heart.Logan’s face is all softness and warmth as he asks, “And what did you say?”“I said it’s okay because I have a mom… and a Logan. I think you would make a cool dad.”

4.5/5 Stars
2/5 Spice

This book came across as a recommended read from Amazon so I downloaded and was so happy that I did!

I honestly loved Logan and Beth. Their chemistry at the beginning of the book and their moments together were beautiful and flowed so natural.....but of course life took Beth away from Logan and they are reunited 10 years later.

My heart broke for Beth and everything she had gone through and endured. Fate brought her and Logan together again but Beth has high walls built around her heart and she doesn't want to let Logan in fully. But of course Logan is exactly what Beth and her daughters need. His family opens their arms to her and her girls immediately. They become her safe place the home she never fully had but always wanted.

It was a slow burn for Logan and Beth but when they finally get together it is everything and we see how Beth heals with his help. I loved how Logan was with Beth it was everything she need. I loved the food and book scenes with these two especially when he surprises her with some and takes the kids off her hands for a bit. Logan showed Beth how much he cared/loved her with his acts of service and with his words.

I can't wait to read more from this author!

This was just everything.

From reading ‘If by chance’ I wanted to read more about Beth and her girls and when I found out she had her own book I knew I needed to read it.

Beth’s ex husband died in a fire, Beth suffered at the hands of her ex husband. After finally escaping to a women’s shelter a horrific event occurs while Beth births her second child.

10 years ago Beth met Logan King a tattoo artist, he felt something for her the second he met her. Logan’s childhood was traumatic, his own mother suffered at the hands of his father.

When Logan’s and Beth’s paths cross he doesn’t realise who Beth’s ex husband is or the extend of the abuse she suffered. Yet Logan wants to show her how she deserves to be loved and he shows her two girls what a father actually looks like.

•Second Chance
•Tattooed MMC
•Single Mother
•He helps her heel
•Found family

Arc review : Check the TW

I actually read this book in two parts, the sole reason being that I knew really early on that it would affect me like crazy, turns out I was right. First of all, let me tell you that you need to read this masterpiece if you love a hero that would do anything for the heroine and that literally only breathe to please her.

Second of all, the building of Beth and Logan’s characters were beautifully written for me because we were able to truly witness how they changed during the time frame and how they helped each other grow. Children in a romance books is something I like and here let me tell you you ovaries will go crazy over Logan and his behavior with the girls.

I don’t like putting spoilers in my reviews so I can’t tell you much more but I could talk (write) about this book for hours. This pure romance is filled with love, compassion, acceptance, family, self-love and adoration and I absolutely loved it with all my heart, hence the 5 stars.

Laura, thank you for the ARC,
And all the readers that are reading my review, don’t hesitate to dive in, you won’t be disappointed but keep in mind to have a box of tissues with you ;)

This is an emotional, complicated, and well-written story, though it is very, very long. It all feels necessary to the story, but also it could probably be a few hundred pages shorter without losing any of the impact or plot. There's nothing particularly extraneous, but it takes a lot of time and emotional commitment to get through. It's a beautiful story about a woman finding her strength after a brutal past, and finding it with the friends she's accumulated along the way, and with the man who should have been The One from the beginning. Yes, there is a HEA, but it takes a lot of effort to get there. Logan is a wonderful, well-rounded, supportive, compassionate man, and is definitely perfect for Beth; if only she hadn't been through so much to get back to him. I recommend this one, but again, it is very long--almost 500 pages; and that is why this is 4 stars, rather than 5 stars for me.

Wow! This book completely wrecked me. It’s raw, emotional, devastating, and somehow still incredibly beautiful all at once. My heart shattered for Beth and her kids and everything they were forced to endure, but Beth herself is such a force. Watching her grow and reclaim her strength was powerful and so moving. And Logan King… yeah, he may officially be my favorite book boyfriend. He’s a flirty smartass with his own scars and past, yet beneath it all he’s this genuinely good man (he is also a motorcycle riding tattoo artist). The way he shows up for Beth, loves her kids, and supports her healing journey pulled at every heartstring.
The longing, the tension, and the slow build were absolutely phenomenal and had me hanging on to every single page. I read this in one sitting and cried so much, a mix of heartbreaking tears and happy, healing ones. Laura Ashley Gallagher has such a beautiful way of writing deeply emotional, soul-stirring stories and characters, and with every book I read of hers she is becoming one of my favorite authors.

What a beautifully heart-wrenching story.

Laura Ashley Gallagher tells the tale of our two main characters, Bethany-Rose and Logan, and what it takes to trust someone again even after you haven't seen them for 10 years.

The book spans 10 years and goes back and forth between the past and the present. It sets the tone of the book and gives the insight that is needed.

This book had me in all the feels. It was told so beautifully, and I just loved reading how our main character found herself again.

The amount of spice in this book was just the tip on the iceberg.

This is a must-read book.

Thank you, Laura Ashley Gallagher, for kindly letting me read your book 5 stars from me.

This story is so entrancing. From the moment you start, you don’t want to start. What would you do if you met “the one” but walked away?

When Beth met Logan, she wanted one last night of adventure before she headed off to London to start an internship. So they spend a seriously hot night together.

Until 10 years later, Beth is a single mom, facing an eviction and running from an abusive past. The person who steps in the help her, none other than Logan, her devastatingly good looking neighbor who has demons of his own.

An absolute well-written, emotional story of finding one’s strength and having a great support system to lean on in tough times. How sometimes it takes coming full circle to the one who was always meant to be.

Brilliant read

Brilliant read, full of emotion and healing. Beth and Logan have a chance meeting ten years ago, sparks fly, but life gets in the way and Beth moves away. Ten years later they meet again, the chemistry is still there, but they are both no longer the same people they met all those years ago, Beth is now a single mom to 2 young children, but both are grieving from heartache, and Beth is still running from a past that is unbearable to speak of. Logan offers a life line, and Beth takes a leap of faith. Can they find their way back to each other, or are the ghosts of the past too hard to slay. Can they both help each other heal ? Or will they fight the feelings they have for each other. Logan's feelings grow for both Beth and her girls, can he convince Beth to grow into the strong woman that he see's.

This story was powerful. Bethany Rose was a young woman when she met Logan the day before she flew to London for an internship.. Logan was a bit of a jerk at first, but they had a strong connection. Little did she know by going to London, getting married to a powerful abusive man what her life would become. My heart broke for her as she told her story, especially about her oldest daughter, Hannah. She came back to town a broken woman but determined to find her way. Logan was there for her every step of the way. It almost broke him when he discovered her abuse from her former husband, but he realized that it made her stronger. A wonderful stoty that was well worth reading.
