Adeena Mignogna is a physicist and astronomer (by degree) working in aerospace as a software engineer and manager. More importantly, she’s a long-time science fiction geek with a strong desire to inspire others through writing about robots, aliens, artificial intelligence, computers, longevity, exoplanets, virtual reality, and more.
Ruby is stuck on a space station. She’s too young to pursue her dream of heading out to one of mankind’s colonies in the deeper solar system and wants nothing to do with the Earth. Her solution? Steal a spaceship and hope for the best. Except there are aliens out there…and they are not what she expected. This is a truly enjoyable series. Adeena explores the age-old question of what may be out there, besides mankind, in our universe. Her solution – both simple and very complicated. Robots. But what are they doing, and who created them? Ruby is a young woman trying to understand her history, herself, and her place in the universe (which gets much bigger if other life is out there).
I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with this book. On one hand, the writing was absolutely beautiful, with passages that took my breath away. On the other hand, the story itself was a bit lacking in direction, often feeling like it was wandering without a clear purpose. The characters were compelling, but their arcs felt incomplete. There were moments of brilliance, but they were overshadowed by the book’s inconsistencies. It’s worth reading for the writing alone, but don’t expect a tight plot.
This book is an absolute tour de force. From the moment I started reading, I was completely immersed in the story. The characters were so well-developed, each with their own flaws and complexities that made them feel incredibly real. The plot was gripping, with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very last page. The themes explored were deep and thought-provoking, yet the story never felt heavy-handed. I can’t recommend this one enough!
This series is humorous but not laugh out loud funny. A low stakes space adventure story with accurate science. To me it felt.like most of the problems were resolved waaaay too easily.
In the end it felt like more was planned but the author ran out of steam, though the major plot points were resolved, temporarily.
I really enjoyed the series. Reading a good series is like writing a good series, it flows and time stands still. Looking forward to the next adventure of Ruby and her crazy robot friends.
I really wanted to love this, but something just didn't click for me. While the characters were interesting, the pacing felt uneven. Some parts were fantastic, while others dragged on too long. Still, there were some great moments that kept me reading.
What a refreshing and unique take! The characters had such depth, and the dialogue was sharp and witty. I couldn’t put it down, and the ending was deeply satisfying. This one is definitely going on my list of favorites.
An absolute delight from start to finish! The characters were so real and relatable that I found myself cheering for them. The plot was clever and kept me turning the pages late into the night. This is storytelling at its finest. I’m already looking forward to reading more from this author.
