AWAKENED LOVE by Laura V. Hilton is the third book in the Amish Of Webster County series. It’s the wonderful story of Katie Detweiler, who lives in Seymour, MO, and Abram Hilty, who arrives from Shipshewana, IN running from his past.

Katie Detweiler has very low self-esteem which is constantly being reinforced with snide remarks and comments by her so called friend Patsy Swartz, who is pushy and a bully. She is sure she will remain unmarried since no boys have sought her out and because of her “curse”. She works in the kitchen at the local B&B. Being the introvert she is, she is glad that she doesn’t have to have contact with the folks out front. When the owner needs to be away aiding her sick husband, she is forced to take over all the out front duties as well. It’s then that she meets the Englischer Tyler, a private investigator. Katie’s world changes in an instant when he tells her that she was adopted and that she has many siblings including a sister who needed a bone marrow transplant in hopes of surviving her illness.

Abram Hilty arrives in Seymour to stay at his cousins while both trying to figure out where he’s life is headed concerning the girl he left behind and running from a murderer. He thought he was in love, but found out that the pushy gal he left behind could not be faithful to one guy even when promised to him. He realizes that the feelings he once had for her were more lust than love. It also seems that Abram along with his brother and some friends had come upon something dangerous in the woods. It left one shot dead and the rest running scared. After others that had ran seemed to come up dead, Abram and his bother split up, left town and wouldn’t let anyone know where they were. Fear kept him quiet and looking over his shoulder even after arriving in Seymour.

Abram knew the moment he laid eyes on Katie that she was THE one for him. He told her from their first meeting that she would become his frau. As their relationship is developing, he’s confronted with the news that Marianna, his old girlfriend, is pregnant. He knows has to return to Shipshewana and man up. As Katie’s daed had once told him “First step in becoming a man, owning up to your mistakes.” Could he confront his past and make his way back to Katie or will it snare him and not let him live the life he is dreaming of with her or will he live at all?

Could Katie dream that she could actually not be cursed and fall in love and have a future with Abram? Can she come to terms with being adopted and meet her siblings that may look like her and her dear brother who had died a few years earlier in a freak accident? Can she find the courage to help her dying sister? Will she ever be able to hold her head up in the community? All she knows is that her love of Abram will never die.

AWAKENED LOVE is an amazing love story. The brilliant way the author tells this wonderful story backing up the main questions with Bible verses in such a seamless way makes them such a great aha moment. Her writing is so realistic that the emotions the characters feel you feel as well - from Katie’s goosebumps to Abram’s fear. Love the way the author gives us life lessons in her books that you so subtle you don’t realize them while mesmerized in reading the story, but afterwards when thinking about what a great story it was they become evident to you. Both Katie and Abram learn that to find the answer, one needs only turn to God. He word has the answers. He word has the plan. It’s his love for us that will carry us through life. Ephesians 2:4

Highly recommend AWAKENED LOVE to anyone that loves a fantastically well written romance, the Amish genre, or a story that will have you feeling your emotions and leave you with a smile on your face. It can definitely be read as a standalone book, but you will want to check out the rest of the book by Laura V. Hilton because she is that good.

Katie Detweiler is cursed. Cursed to wind up alone and a maidel while everyone else around her falls in love and gets married. At first, she didn't believe it, but the more her friend Patsy reminded her, the more she began to believe that the lot in life that was falling over her was due to being cursed. Losing her brother Noah in a freak accident has left her growing up alone and has caused her mother to remain in depressed state, leaving her and her father behind to stay with family away from the place that brings only loneliness and sadness.

Katie has always wanted to take part in the courtship of the Amish like all her friends, but soon realizes that dream will never come true. Patsy has asked her to stand up as part of her wedding part when she learns that Micah's cousin is in town. To Patsy that means all bets are off and she will stop at nothing to ensure that her and Abram Hilty are married this year. Too bad Abram isn't aware of that plan. Leaving his family to avoid his own past, Abram can't help but notice Katie. She's not like all the other girls he has met, that throw themselves at him, but instead seems to not be attracted to his good looks at all. Now if he can only convince her that he is interested.

When Katie notices Abram's persistent ways to be around her, she believes that he isn't really interested in her, but probably wants to date Patsy. However, Abram manages to persuade Katie that it is her that he wants to date and no one else. But because Katie has grown up believing she is cursed, she believes it's just a prank being played on her by the Amish boys. It will take a lot of convincing on Abram's part and if Patsy has it her way, it will never happen. Things are going to definitely get interesting to say the very least.

I received Awakened Love by Laura V. Hilton compliments of Whitaker House Publishers and Pump Up Your Book Tours for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own. This is the third book in The Amish of Webster County and it's a mix of Amish Romance, coupled with a twist of suspense as both Abram's and Katie's past come back to disrupt their lives in ways neither one could ever manage. I literally inhaled this one in a couple of hours. This is a first novel with Laura V. Hilton but it definitely won't be my last. I will be going back to read the first two in this series! Her writing style is very easy going and keeps you hooked from the very beginning all the way to the end. I didn't want it to end. With that being said, it's easy to give Awakened Love a true 5 out of 5 stars.

Katie Detweiler is a shy young Amish woman who enjoys baking for a local bed & breakfast. The solace in the kitchen fulfills her desire to be out of the mainstream. Due to unforeseen circumstances she is needed to work in the dining room which is out of her comfort zone. A frequent visitor to the dining room at the B & B is a private investigator who reveals shocking family information about Katie. His revelation shakes Katie to the core, and leads her to troubling discoveries. Katie has always been labeled as having a "curse," and these discoveries only confirm her fears.

Abram Hilty has recently moved to Missouri to stay with relatives. The young Amish man's purpose is to escape troubling situations at home in Indiana. Fleeing a murder scene and an aggressive girlfriend, he needs time to contemplate his future. Abram is hired by Katie's father to work on the family farm. Upon meeting, sparks fly between Katie and Abram, and it's love at first sight. An impassioned relationship develops and develops too quickly. Ultimately Katie's family revelations and Abram's unknown past create numerous obstacles that threaten their relationship. Abram is passionate, and determined to win Katie's hand in marriage, but the need for self-examination and seeking God's will through prayer require them to meet their challenges independent of one another.

Laura V. Hilton has broached numerous intense issues in Awakened Love, creating multi-faceted and detailed portrayals throughout this Amish romance. Low self esteem, bullying, unfolding secrets, passionate love, anxiety over past experiences and uncertainty for the future develop into a chronicle of suspense. The author reflects deep insight into the realities of life, and describes the events and her characters with richness and credibility. This is the last in the series of The Amish of Webster County, and it exceeded my expectations! Ms. Hilton continues to capture my undivided attention.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author for the express purpose of my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own, and no monetary compensation was received for this review.

Katie Detweiler is very bashful and is verbally bullied by Patsy Swartz. She manages the the bakery/deli at a local bed and breakfast and is beginning to think she'll never marry and have a family. When Abram Hilty comes to stay with his relatives in Seymour, Missouri he sees Katie and is immediately attracted to her, but so is his cousin Micah.

Abram tries everything to convince Katie that she will someday be his frau. She doesn't believe him since he has a girlfriend back home in Shipshewana, Indiana and Patsy keeps telling her that she's courting him and they are going to get married. Katie feels like he is wanting to court her because of a dare and everyone in the community is laughing at her.

Abram is keeping something secret and when Katie discovers a secret about herself her world is turned upside down. Abram is very supportive until he is ordered back to Shipshewana by the Bishops there.

I didn't think this book could be any better than "Surrendered Love" but I was wrong. Abram so reminded my of my husband when we first met, he was determined that we would be married after only knowing each other for a couple of weeks but I kept telling him no. Well we were married five months after meeting and have now been married 42 1/2 years, so he did win. We didn't have the complications that Katie and Abram had though, so that is where the story differs to begin with.

Laura may have outdone herself with this series, I loved, loved, loved it! This is one of those series that I feel you must start with the first book as the main characters, the girls, are best friends so each book is a continuance of the previous one, sort of.

This Book Has It All! (A 5 Star Book!)

Romance, Mystery, Twists & Turns describes Awakened Love. Author Laura V. Hilton has captured it all in this book. I loved the fact that this was not the typical boy meets girl romance. I was so engrossed in finding out what happened in the end, that many things were sadly neglected in my household while reading this book.

I loved that the author addressed some mean spirited issues among other issues that happens in everyday life. This Christian author does not neglect our need for God throughout the books that she pens. When a problem arises God is the first one that most of her characters turn to.

I enjoyed the main characters, Katie Detweiler and Abram Hilty. Katie reminded me of myself when I was growing up. We both lacked a back bone in certain situations. Does Katie finally get one? Abram also reminds me of someone in my life while I was growing up. I will not go into any details because I wouldn’t want to reveal any spoilers.

The first Amish fiction book that I read by Laura V. Hilton, I became a big fan. Her books keep getting better and better.

I hope that there will be another book that will continue after this one. I need to find out what happens to Katie and Abram.

If you haven’t read any books by Laura V. Hilton, I urge you to do so. I promise that you will not be disappointed!

Once again, I was drawn into this latest Amish of Webster County book. I found myself in the same situation as before...hardly able to set the book down because I was so intent on finding out what was going to happen next!

This story follows Katie Detweiler. She is a shy girl, without very much confidence. She doesn't truly realize how accomplished or pretty she is. This is party because of the influence of a jealous girl in the community who continually belittles Katie. When the new man in town, Abram Hilty, begins to fall for Katie, she is unsure about whether she can really trust him or the feelings that he stirs within her.

Abram has problems of his own. There are things in his past that he is running from. I was just so very curious throughout the book about what he was running from. It was clear that he was a good man, with good intentions. But there was this heaviness hanging over him whenever he thought about his home community that he had fled from.

I won't say more about the plot, as I don't want to spoil anyone's read by divulging the twists and turns of the story. I really enjoyed returning to the community and also getting to see how the two couples from the first two books are doing.

What an amazing read. Just when you think you know mainly what the book it about, something else is thrown into the mix. Ok...then there is more, and then more. Not just a regular Amish romance story, although there is one, along with the bad, nasty, girl involved.
Katie Detweiler is a shy, sweet Amish woman, she works at a B & B, as the cook. Katie's life is about to make a big change, she has been raised Amish by two wonderful parents, who love her. She did loose her beloved brother Noah in a tragic accident. Now life is about to change forever.
Entering into this Missouri community is Abram Hilty, he is her visiting his Aunt and Uncle. He has a secret he is running from, but there is a much larger secret too.
Will these two souls be able to forge a relationship together? Will Katie's future end up pulling her from her Amish Community? Will Abram be able to work out his problems? Or will he end up like his cousin?
There are some really scary things that happen, and some really big surprises. This book does not disappoint nor does it loose your attention, and becomes a real page turner.

I received this book through First Wild Card Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

The young woman on this cover, makes you wonder if she will ever find love, and it fits the story very well. Katie, was so unsure of herself and so very shy, that most boys didn't try to come court her. That is until Abram Hilty showed up. A whirlwind rushing romance follows, but obstacles seemed determined to break Katie's heart. This book has more twists and turns than an Arkansas highway. A wonderful gut book! 5 stars 288 pages Available September 2, 2013

This is more of a rant than a review. I've read a lot of bad books, but this one takes the cake. DNF, and I always finish books. There was so much wrong with this story but I'll try to keep this short.

Firstly, let me say I am a huge fan of romance and Amish romance especially. I was excited to read this book as I'd never heard of this author and the plot sounded interesting. I should have stuck with reading Cora Mabry and books from the Love Finds You series.

Katie was a doormat. I am a shy, reserved person but I would never let people walk on me as she does. Letting Abram CONSTANTLY put his hands all over her (someone get this guy a cold shower) instead of telling him to stop when she's not sure she even wants him near her [when she KNOWS he's taken, at least for part of the book!!], letting Tyler give her a goodnight kiss (what kind of scum bag asks his ex girlfriend's sister on a date when she's in a fragile state and then says he was kidding?), and saying she wants to make her own decisions but not doing anything about it - even as simple as standing up to Patsy? Also, why are all the characters in this book so terrible? I've never met anyone in my life as nasty as Patsy - perhaps they do exist but she seemed so over exaggerated to me. Why did Abram and Tyler and everyone else let Patsy talk to Katie like she was trash? No one could stand up for this girl??? Thankfully the guys are smoking hot so that makes up for their massive personality flaws - although I found it impossible to see past Abram constantly looking for an excuse to get Katie in the bed with him.

Katie's dad allowing a strange Englisher to take her to see her estranged deathly ill sister without her previously knowing - what? This was one of many bizarrely convoluted plot points that I couldn't get past. Along with Noah (her brother) dying by falling from a hayloft onto a pitchfork. I don't believe anyone has ever died in that manner in the history of humanity. I guess it's better than the "thrown from the buggy and killed instantly" trope.

Basically, this book was incredibly irritating to me. If you're looking for a wholesome Amish romance centered around God, skip this.

Like a good recipe, Author Laura Hilton mixes in just the right amount of forgiveness, romance and adventure to make her books hard to put down. Plus, her characters are very relatable. Twenty-two-year-old Abram Hilty has left Shipshewana, Indiana to visit his aunt and uncle in Seymour, Missouri. When he lays eyes on twenty-one-year-old Katie Detweiler, he decides he is going to marry her. Katie has never been courted and thinks Abram’s attention may be due to a challenge from his cousin Micah. Will he be able to convince Katie that he is sincere? Will Katie’s heart get broken? Will the truth come out about the real reason Abram has left Shipshewana? Aptly titled Awakened Love, this story is about finding love and holding on to hope when times get tough. Laura Hilton’s books always make great gifts.

This is book three in the Amish of Webster County Series by Laura V Hilton "Awakened Love"
Katie Detweiler loves her job at the bed and breakfast, because she likes to bake and stay in the kitchen away from the public eye, however her boss now needs her to step up and be in the dining room more now that her husband need round the clock care. Can Katie come out off her shell and learn to socialize some.
Abram Hilty can only run so far before his past catches up to him, the problem is he has fallen hard for Katie and she for him, can he face his past or will he run again?
Katie learns about a secret in her past, can she get past it or will the secret be to much along with Abrams past?
This is a wonderful book with twists and turns all while pulling you into a love story like no other. I would recommend this book and the whole series.

Awaken Love, book 3 in The Amish of Webster County, by Laura V. Hilton is over the top in Amish genre books. Awakened Love is filled with hidden secrets, despair, suspense, romance, faith and characters crying out to God to see them through life’s struggles.

Katie Detweiler is enjoying her job at a bed and breakfast baking in the kitchen. But then she was needed to work in the dining area with the owner being away due to her husband’s cancer. Katie was so shy she struggled until a stranger, who had been frequently the small coffee diner at the BnB, seemed to be stalking her? How will Katie react when she learns a secret about her and her brother, Noah, who had died a few years before?

Abram Hilty went to Seymour, M0 to get away from a girl who was pressuring him to marry him from their community in Shipshewana, IN. Abram was staying with his Uncle John’s family with his cousin, Micah, being about the same age. Micah informed Abram about wanting to court Katie, but that she was so shy and would hardly speak. Abram agreed to put in a good word about Micah to Katie, however, once Abram saw Katie he felt so drawn to her, he wasn’t sure he could fulfill his promise to Micah. Micah and Abram decided Micah would take Natalie home while Abram could take Katie to sing Micah’s praises. Will events did not turn out as they planned. Then you add in a jealous Patsy Swartz who fell all over Abram and didn’t care about hurting Katie with remarks that were not true regarding Abram. Will Katie and Abram have an opportunity to get to know one another when Patsy is telling others she is marrying Abram?

Awaken Love is filled with so many unexpected twists and turns, including Abram being a witness to something happening in the woods, with one of his friends being shot at that time back in Shipshewana. Then two more friends were shot and killed, thus Abram and his twin brother, Abner, had left their community for their own safety. Once the issue was in the open in Seymour, Abram had been advised to speak with Hiram (Troy) Troyer. since he used to be an officer before returning to the Amish community. Will Abram be able to remain in Seymour knowing he could lose his life like his friends had who witnessed the event in the woods? How will Hiram assist Abram?

The plots only continued to deepen and kept me turning the page until I completed this magnificent realistic read. The characters are well developed with true to life issues that kept me right in the moment with them along with my emotions. Laura Hilton is one gifted author with her book outshining the previous one. Laura writes complicated plots, true to life characters with real life issues that are interwoven with their faith in God and the love of God to see them through their struggles, heartbreaks, and always providing forgiveness. She also includes scriptures that her characters claim for their own, especially during the most serious and difficult struggles they face.

I look forward to reading many more great stories by Laura V. Hilton. Readers will not be disappointed reading her books as they are not your usual Amish genre romance books. Hilton’s books are action packed with words that increase the awesome story.

My Review:

Katie is terribly shy and the fact that she is a twenty-one year old woman without a beau or a promised engagement doesn't really sit well with her. But what is she going to do about it? She and Micah have always seem to gravitate towards each other but she never would make that final step towards something more permanent. Just when I thought okay, this will be your typical Amish romance things started to twist and turn beyond my wildest expectations.

Soon Katie is taken an a total about face, way beyond her incredibly shy existence. She soon starts working in a bed and breakfast where she is somewhat forced to conquer her shyness but so much more takes place. And as if that wasn't enough the new guy in town, Abram is not only turning all the young girls' heads in town but he is also running from something. But what?

This book is a real page turner for sure. You will be kept guessing from one page to the next. I had to keep reading once I discovered this just so I could see how it all ended. Brilliant book, I loved it!

Oh my… what an amazing story!

Without giving away too much – trying to stick to facts given in the synopsis – I want to talk about how much I enjoyed reading Awakened Love. This story has everything!

We first met Katie in Healing Love… towards the end of this story, Katie’s family had moved to Ohio for several years and had just recently returned to Webster County. There’s not much else in this first book of the series on Katie, except the explanation that she grew up with Kristi and Janna… and that Kristi was looking forward to renewing her friendship with Katie.

In Surrendered Love, Katie, Krista and Janna are close friends again; in this story, Katie tells her friends that she’s landed a job at a nearby bed and breakfast. Janna tries to play matchmaker for Katie and Micah (who just moved to their district recently), but Micah ends up taking both girls home from the singing. (To find out what happens, be sure to read this second book of the series if you haven’t already).

In Awakened Love, Katie is pretty much on her own… working full-time at the bed and breakfast. Kristi and Janna are both good friends to Katie, but things are just not the same — if you’ve read books one and two, you’ll understand that their lives are much different now. And Katie is having her own troubles…

First, her not-so-much of a friend Patsy gives her a hard time – disrupting her work, talking badly to her – and about her, even being abusive to her… hard to believe, I know, but even in the Amish community of Webster County, there are girls that behave badly – and Patsy seems to be the worst!

I’ll be honest with you – I got so made at that girl, I was ready to scream!

But this is part of what makes Laura V. Hilton such a great writer – she doesn’t try to write about perfect Amish communities… she writes about real, true-to-life Amish communities! Even if I don’t like patsy, I am quick to agree that she makes the story sound true, and if she weren’t so bad, the hero wouldn’t have the chance to be so heroic!

This book is the pièce de résistance!

I was continually amazed at the secrets that cropped up… and the budding romances, although Katie’s courtship seems to have as many difficulties as the ones in the first two books of this series. This story definitely has some serious moments, as well as a few funny moments, too – such as when Abram tries to teach Katie how to play baseball, and ends up with an almost-broken nose!

But hey, don’t take my word for it… read it for yourself… read the whole series!

Disclosure of Material Connection: The opinions I express are my own, but I received this book free from the author in appreciation for featuring her this month on my blog.

A Bashful Baker

Twenty–one–year–old Katie Detweiler loves to bake. When she's hired at a local bed–and–breakfast to do just that, she's excited, especially because the owner promises the shy young woman that she won't have to leave the kitchen. But when her boss's husband requires round–the–clock care, Katie is forced to overcome her shyness and wait on customers, as well. Before long, a "customer" reveals himself to be a private investigator who informs Katie that she was adopted, and that her biological sister needs a bone marrow transplant.

A Man on the Run

Twenty–two–year–old Abram Hilty has fled the drama of Shipshewana, Indiana, for Seymour, Missouri, where he's staying with his cousin Micah Graber. His plan is to hide, from a girl he no longer cares about—and also from a cold–blooded killer. Uncomfortable sharing his past and afraid of the consequences, he buries his troubles deep inside. When he meets Katie Detweiler, he is immediately attracted, but his pursuit of her is complicated by the problems of his past.

An Adventure Unfolds

As Katie wrestles with questions of identity, she also struggles to navigate her blossoming romance with Abram, in the face of opposition from a jealous friend. As their relationship becomes more serious, Abram can no longer conceal the truth about his past. But parts of that past rear their heads, barring the way for a marriage between them—at least for now. Through dangers and near–death experiences, Katie and Abram must find their way back to each other. But only the power of forgiveness can bring them together for good.

My Review:

Finally! A drama with some different elements! Hilton's stories just get better and better. There is a certain credibility that is starting to shape her novels, and I felt this story was very creative and original. You can feel Katie's shyness through the pages, and you sympathize with her plight when she finds out the truth of her past. Every question or doubt she has ever had bubbles to the surface, and she doesn't know what to think or how to feel about the sudden turn of events.

Then there is Abram on the run, with enough trouble following him to completely eradicate the idea of getting involved with Katie. Despite their unthinkable circumstances, the Abram/Katie relationship kept me involved in the story until the very end. Keeping my attention is somewhat difficult the more I read and review books, but this novel was a refreshing change of pace and a pleasure to read.

REVIEW

The main character in this book is Katie Detweiler. She is Amish in Webster County. Be sure you set aside some time to spend on this book. Once you open the book, you're there for the duration. You are hooked. You can't turn the pages fast enough. There is so much happening that you don't want to miss anything. Katie is very shy and doesn't stand up for herself. She is constantly being taunted by Patsy Swartz. Katie runs the bakery/deli at a friend's local bed and breakfast. She has the feeling that she will never marry and have boppli. Abram Hilty came to stay with relatives including is his cousin Micah. Seymour, Missouri will never be the same. Both Abram and Micah are attracted to Katie.Katie believes Abram has a girlfriend back in Shipshewana, Indiana so she doesn't believe Abram when he says she will someday be his frau. Then here comes Patsy again. She loves gossip and does everything she can to make life miserable for others and happy for her. She tells Katie that he is courting her and they are due to wed. Word around is that Abram is courting Katie as a joke and she feels that everyone is laughing at her. Abram has a secret and Katie discovers one of her own. Her world is flipped upside down. Abram supports her until the Bishops order him to go home.Abram has been running from something and there is no clue what that is. The pages start turning faster as you try to find out the secret he has and the one Katie has too. Abram is a good man and wants to do what is right but his secret is taking over his Amish way of thinking. He needs to pray and talk to God. The only thing wrong with this book is I should have read Books 1 and 2 before Book 3. They are stand alone books but you miss out on the history of the characters. Well, I'm sorry but that is the end for me. I want you to be surprised and surprised you'll be. So go pick up Laura V. Hilton's books and read some heartwarming, sometimes sad and sometimes satisfying words. You might want to pick up the first two books also and read them in order.

I was given this complimentary copy of AWAKENED LOVE by the author Laura V. Hilton from Dorothy Thompson/Pump Up Your Book for my uncompensated opinion.

I would give this book 5 Pies.

Awakened Love is the third book in the Amish Of Webster County series but I think it easily could be read first. Very little information about the characters from the first two books is given, besides the obvious, so you could easily go back and read them without too much being spoiled.

This is the first book I've read by this author. The story starts out great and I was captivated from the first sentence - which doesn't happen often. I was fully expecting to be giving this book 5 stars, but by the time I got near the end a couple of things just got to be too much.

Katie is a shy and sheltered girl. At times though this comes across as child-like and immature. So many times she is very quick to think the worst and runaway. Which I guess can be normal for someone who is put down a lot, but it still became tiring after it happened so much.

The romance is sweet overall but at times it was pushing what normally is found in Amish fiction. I didn't care much for how quickly the fall in love. They've barely met and already Abram is thinking marriage...after two weeks!

The whole reason Abram had to flee was made to big this huge deal, but then by the time it came around to it the reason behind it wasn't explained very well. I still don't know why the people were after him.

The ending was very quick and many things were brought to a quick conclusion. However, overall it was enjoyable and if you like Amish fiction you should enjoy it too.

***I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.***

One of my weaknesses when it comes to reading is Amish books. I don’t really know why that is, but I have always enjoyed having the chance to read them! So when I had the opportunity to review this book, I jumped at that chance.
When I first started Awakened Love, I was completely confused because of the way that the characters were talking, but I do believe that’s because they weren’t speaking “English English” but “Amish English” (in my mama’s terms). But I didn’t that distract me because I was still able to get into the story and follow along quite well.
I completely enjoyed Katie’s character! I thought the way that the author was able to show how shy she was was written very well. And being able to follow along as she grew more confident with herself and was able to open up more was just amazing.
Overall though, I did completely enjoy the story except for one big issue that I had with it. And that was how “modern” the story was. When it comes to the Amish community, there are certain things that a person can expect when it comes to reading a book about them. I just had a real issue with how freely the “modern world” was thrown into the book. For instance, going to McDonalds, talking on the telephone or even riding in cars. To me, that just took the believability of the story to almost non-existent.
But even after taking that into consideration, I still enjoyed this story very much and I will be looking forward to reading more from the author in the future.

I think this has to be the first Amish book that I have read that actually had gossip in it. A very nasty girl, spreading false lies, destroying her close friends reputation, self esteem and appeared to be loose with her virtue. I was really blown away. What I liked was through it all God was at the center of how to handle the conflict. With each problem that arose Gods word was searched and applied with the wisdom that Hid ways are greater than ours, even when you do not understand them.

Laura really delved into a lot of different issues you don't read to much about in Amish books: adoption, premarital sex, outside Englisch family members, drug abuse, addiction and manipulation made this a very interesting read.

I liked the little guide at the front of the book for common Amish phrases and words. Although this is the 3rd book in the Webster County series, it stands nicely on its own accord.I have not read the other 2 books in the series, but now I cannot wait to.

The only negative thing I can say about this book is it ended abruptly to me. I hope there is a sequel, I need to find out what happens to Katie and Abram.

When I began reading Awakened Love, I told myself, "One chapter tonight and that's it." Impossible! I couldn't put it down till I had read it straight through. What's the allure of this book?

Wondering if there's any hope of love for the shy & sheltered Katie Detweiler and the self-assured Abram Hilty. In order to find out, you need to fasten your seatbelt and get ready for a great ride as the story unfolds with romance, mystery, humor, & unexpected twists & turns. You won't be disappointed & in typical Laura V. Hilton style, you'll be guessing till the very end! And possibly, like me, once you start it, you'll have a hard time putting it down.

Book Quote:
Abram shook his head. “I’m not ‘promised’ to anyone.” Yet. But he intended to be, someday. How would she react if he said he wanted to be promised to her? It’d probably scare her off. Especially considering they’d met only yesterday. But still, it was tempting. Too tempting. “But, just so you know, I intend to marry you.”

(This book was published in 2013. I have just reread for the umpteenth time and am therefore reposting my review.)

I was given a copy of this book from the author, Laura Hilton... and what an incredible book it is. I couldn't put it down, though being wife and Mom forced me to at times. lol! I loved the mystery behind Abram's story...on the run from his past as so many of us are. Katie-girl's innocence was precious and endearing to me. Her questions to Tyler about certain words were sweet and fun. The love from her Daed was so full of emotion. Mose's advice that played over and over again in Abram's head was so true and obviously stuck with him! Most definitely a book to read again. (I think I'd better find the first two and read them, too! I think I have found a new favorite author!)

My favorite description was this paragraph: "She had the feeling of staring at one of the jigsaw puzzles Daed liked to do to fill the evenings. All the pieces had been dumped out in one big jumble, some upside down, some right side up, none of them looking anything like it was supposed to. Just a confusing mess." ... I loved this as I think that this is my life currently... just a confusing mess.

Highly recommended!

What happens when a bashful Amish baker and an Englisch man on the run meet? Well for one, they are attracted to each other, but that can’t be happening because Amish and Englisch can’t mix. Or can they? Laura Hilton is typical of intermixing situations that are totally inappropriate somehow finds a way for them to work. Can this mixed up couple find a way to be together, or will the demands of each of their lives cause them to go separate ways?

Laura Hilton has done it again in this third book of The Amish of Webster County. I love Katie Detweiler’s character and was glad she had the chance to come out of her shell a bit when she was forced to take over the bakery. Abram was a little harder to get to know, but he really grows on you, and I started really liking his character as the story develops.
And as usually with Laura Hilton’s books, there are secrets that need to be revealed and a lot of twists and turns that will keep you fully involved in this story till the end. This is one Amish fiction you do not want to miss!

Awakened Love is another stellar book by Laura Hilton.
Ms. Hilton's books are not your run-of-the-mill Amish romances. There are always twists, mysteries and more obstacles than one would ever want.
Awakened Love deals with shy Katie and feisty Abram, who has run from his own community and is hiding a secret. Katie learns that she is adopted, and now has to deal with a sister she never knew.
As an adoptive mom, I thought Laura handled the adoption issue beautifully. Finding out as an adult can be earth-shattering, and Ms. Hilton navigated these turbulent waters with great skill. She explored the definition and meaning of family in deep and intricate ways, with a satisfying conclusion.
I enjoyed this last book of the series, and look forward to her next trilogy of Amish novels.

What a delightful read! Awakened Love captured me from the beginning and kept my attention until the last word.
Ms. Hilton’s writing provides a glimpse into the life of the Amish. With a helpful language dictionary, she embarks on the challenge of teaching her readers a bit of their culture as well. Although confusing at times, the language does provide extra flare to the story.
Someone will always know something you don’t. How would you respond when confronted with a surprise or two? This book is a true testament to perseverance and faith in the face of uncertainty and fear.
Well done, Ms. Hilton. I give it four stars.

This is not the first book I have read by Laura Hilton. I continue to enjoy her work. Awakened Love leaves the reader with a feeling of intrigue as we try to figure out why Abram has fled his community secretly.

Excellent book. I couldn't put it down. I wish the story could continue into another book. All three books of The Amish of Webster County (Healing Love, Surrendered Love and Awakened Love) by Laura V. Hilton were well written.
