I know what death feels like now. I can feel it in these new hands that touch me. Maybe I should have anchored myself to Malachi some more, made him be more cautious of who I was before him. I didn’t. And now we’re miles apart and all I can do is hope he’ll come for me. Why would he, though? I’m a no one to him. I was just a bargain we made – a novelty for him to play with. This situation was always in the cards for me. There was never any outrunning it, or avoiding it. But even now I wish I could have had more time in the safe arms that held me firmly. Safe. Not a word any of us understand, but I wanted to be just that. I needed to be. And I was. Until I wasn’t. Who knows how this story ends? Not me, that’s for sure. But I do know I’ll never forget the one man who meant more to me than anyone ever has. I’ll never forget the love I felt.
Hailing from the depths of the quiet British countryside, Charlotte likes nothing better than sinking into her characters dark and devious world's. Sometimes they're kinky, sometimes they're twisted, and sometimes they're a serious hold on tight situation, but her stories are always filled with romance and love in some form.
Unexpected change emerges and grows from the darkness when Malachi finally accepts the depth of his feelings regarding his Alice. Things definitely darken here before they can finally flourish and now Malachi finds himself in the unusual position of being the saviour and protector rather than his usual MO. Putting the pieces of his broken Alice back together in true Malachi style using his signature masochist nature but now merged together with a new gentler side that is foreign even to himself. Alice gives Malachi a reason to exist and he’s determined to vanquish her enemies and replace the pain she has endured with his own brand of care. Don’t mistake me, Malachi doesn’t morph into some white knight but what he does do is give his girl the tools she needs to rise from the ashes whilst also shielding her from further harm. Well none that he hasn’t initiated himself that is.
This initially began in a dark place whilst then flowing towards a whole new beginning before once again spiralling. It’s a journey of discovery for both Malachi and Alice and I adored this new version of Malachi he was still him but with an added edge and fresh purpose and Alice has now become Malachi’s new drug of choice. He breathes and exists for her alone the ultimate power now placed directly in her hands recognising her as his equal and owning his dark ragged soul. He’s capable of burning down the world to avenge her and keep her safe and secure longing for her to need him just as much as he does her but what will happen when the dust finally settles.
This isn’t in any way an easy or a gentle love nor is it in any way conventional but what we do have is an all-consuming inferno of love pain and obsession and this story managed to grip and enthral me with its raw and at times toxic intensity here love literally hurts and there’s nothing metaphoric about it. The finish was superb so heart wrenching and uplifting but also then filled with such a surreal hope for the future it really was a fitting and perfect destination for the culmination of all that is Malachi and Alice. A story still fluid and in its initial infancy love definitely not a cure-all but a work in progress the first step on the path to true healing and it just felt so appropriate and authentic to them.
This was definitely my favourite book in the series and it dragged all sorts of emotions kicking and screaming to the surface what a ride this has been fabulously written and beautifully engaging with some real hard hitting moments that resulted in such a kaleidoscope of emotions. I definitely recommend this series if you like your romances dark different and totally unconventional as this has that vibe in spades. I voluntary reviewed a copy of A vow to chase (lies and truth trilogy #3).
An incredible conclusion to this must-read trilogy!!
Malachi Jones is a complex and broken man. He is an enigma and he has always intrigued me. After meeting him in The Truth and Lies trilogy I desperately wanted to learn more about him, and this trilogy has been penned superbly to show us exactly who Malachi is.
It seems everything is a game to Malachi and he is a master at playing them. I never knew which side of Malachi’s personality was going to appear at any given time. His story makes compulsive reading. Now that I have finished reading A Vow to Chase, I definitely have a greater understanding of the man and the reasons behind his actions. There are moments during this narrative when I wholly disagreed with what he was doing, but then, once explained, it all made sense. I have loved that my feelings and opinions towards Malachi and Alice often changed as their story unfolded. I have thoroughly enjoyed witnessing Ally’s journey throughout this storyline too. I can recall after reading the first book feeling fearful for her, simply for catching Malachi’s attention. She isn’t the young lady I expected her to be and I believe you will agree that her character development has been incredible.
The twists and turns throughout this trilogy have made it an addictive and compelling read. There have been some completely unexpected scenes that literally had me holding my breath and feeling devastated at their outcomes – which of course I absolutely loved! I’ve learned to expect the unexpected, not only from Malachi but from the author Charlotte E. Hart too!
In my opinion A Vow to Chase closes this incredible story perfectly. I found it to be a much less complex and an easier read than the second book (A Taste of Truth), and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed witnessing this story reach its conclusion. In order to get the full experience of Malachi and Alice’s journey, this series needs to be read in release order starting with A Dance with Devils.
I highly recommend this darker romance story to you to read. It has been outstanding from start to finish and I am certain you will feel the same way too.
A Vow To Chase is the third and final book in Charlotte E Hart’s Lies and Truth Trilogy. This has been a dark story about Malachi Jones and Alice ‘Ally’ Contreas. We were left on a cliffhanger after the end of A Taste of Truth and this continues straight on so these books must be read in order. A story about two lives and survival. Their journey is not a pretty one, it is very messy and bloody. One minute you will feel sorry for them, then turn the page and you will be screaming at them. They have a complex, toxic painful love, involving games and some shocking events.
“I could almost see you as normal if I didn’t know better.”
Ally has found herself back in the past and without Malachi to help her face her enemies. Malachi was so busy denying his feelings for her that he didn’t get to Ally in time. That hesitation may have cost him his reason to live and he is really affected by how he didn’t protect what was his. By the time Malachi and Ally are reunited, she is very traumatised and shuts down. At the castle Gray asked her to fix Malachi but circumstances have changed and now Malachi will need to fix her after the horrific events she has suffered.
Ally is miserable and can’t move past the fact he wasn’t there when she needed him. He has an unusual way of trying to help her recover which I found hard to read, but understood as it was typical of him and how he dealt with things. She has no memory of her interactions with Malachi’s wife Faith. She is confused as to why Malachi still wants her after all she’s been through. All she can think about is getting revenge for herself and her family so she can finally stop running and her brothers will be safe. She is concerned that it's all a game to him and he is still playing with her but she is a fighter and in her anger to get what she wants, she agrees a bargain with Malachi.
Their relationship causes him complications especially as he experiences feelings he can’t cope with. It doesn’t help that Ally makes Malachi question himself and the world he lives in. She challenges him but also encourages him to be what he wants to be. She has replaced Gray’s drugs as his new addiction but can he live with a clear head. Is what he is feeling love or is is just an obsession? Neither of them feel they are enough or deserve the other. He hates normality but with her is the chance of real kind of love and she does offer all the things he’s always wanted, even if with his morals she may never totally be safe. He also wonders if she loves him just to keep him alive because he knows the dark will always return.
I really liked the enigmatic Malachi in the Truth and Lies Trilogy and was very intrigued by his detachment from reality. We knew he was malicious, manipulative and always plays to win but in this book he is up and down, hot and cold, manic and serious, gentle and sadistic. I know he is a broken, complex man but during this trilogy I did questioned some of his actions.
Lots of twist and turns that will evoke lots of emotions and reactions as you read. You may agree or disagree with their choices but thankfully it is all explained by the end. Their type of love really does hurt, it’s unconventional and brutal at times but deep down it’s passionate and caring. Can she be enough and keep his interest to keep him alive? Can he keep her alive from the threats of her past? What choices will Ally make when it all comes to a head? A prince and a rogue love story which I enjoyed more than I did book two. I found it easier to follow but it is still a mind-bending story. If you like your romance dark, with complicated characters and a really twisted plot then this is the trilogy for you.

If ever you've wanted an unconventional messed up story of love, then Malachi and Alice are the couple for you, but you do need to read this trilogy in order.
Where love is pain and pain is love, their warped, dark game of trust, loyalty, mental anguish combined with obsession, possession and an undeniable connection of sizzling chemistry, was enthralling and compelling reading.
Malachi stayed true to his personality with his sadistic mix of compassion, caring and love of blood even as his mind cleared and Alice became his new addiction. Alice was a tiger, fighting for her brothers, herself and Malachi, even through the pain and violence she was subjected to. They were both put through the wringer and made decisions and choices that were difficult to accept, but then completely understood once the reasons behind them became apparent.
Charlotte E Hart has written a fabulous twisted mind game of a trilogy that has built and grown from start to finish, as have the complex characters of the enigmatic Malachi and fiery, feisty Alice. She's certainly not afraid to push boundaries, which I absolutely love, but is probably not for the faint hearted.
We saw strengths and weaknesses, pain, heartbreak, mistakes and vulnerabilities which culminated in an ending that although brought both tears to my eyes and a smile to my face, was perfect and completely them. 4.5 stars
This is the final book in the Lies and Truths trilogy, and what a book it was, I think it was the darkest book of the three, but the most exciting, it got the adrenaline pumping, and it grips you from the start after the cliff hanger at the end of the last book. It is the perfect ending and very well written.
There are lots of twists and turns throughout the whole series, you feel lots of different emotions, but in this last book you feel them more, the strengths and the weaknesses, the pain and the love. Alice and Malachi are meant to be together.
There is so much I want to say about this outstanding book, but won't, it's the kind of book you don't want to know what is coming next, so you get the full experience. What I will say though is this series is Brilliant and you need to read it. 5 stars are certainly not enough for this final book.
WOW! Good heavens, this has been a rollercoaster of a final book: obsession, drama, evilness. Add love and hope and you're only touching the tip of the iceberg in this finale. I was so undecided about Malachi. Sometimes I thought he was wonderful and others, he was awful. But even when awful, there seemed to be a masterplan, falling into place and becoming clearer as he made his moves. Parts of Ally's story were so sad and very hard to read. She'd become a victim. Circumstances haven't really been kind to her. But then things happen, Malachi takes charge, and...you need to read it for yourself to see and join in the rollercoaster ride!
This has been a mind-bending journey, one that was deeply satisfying now that we've gotten to know Malachi and Alice better. Finally getting to understand just what kept Malachi going, and the inner workings of his psyche was enlightening! And Alice has been through the wringer over and over, but she now knows just where she should've been all along. This has been a trilogy of many risks and questionable rewards, but you have to finish the journey with these two to be able to step into the light! This dark, steamy series has been amazing!
The dance with Devil’s Night continues as Ally faces her demons alone. When she calls for him, Malachi isn’t there. No little pills to deaden the pain, only the truth of her past remains. Malachi reacts differently, hesitating, calculating, only to reveal his actions may have cost him everything he needs to breathe. These two characters twist and turn around each other in an emotional dance that will raise red flags, make you angry, and put you back together in the end. Excellent read!!
A fitting and satisfying ending to what has been one of the most intriguing, wtf-have-i-just-read series! The tempo was spot-on throughout and the answers to questions I had, were all answered! Looking for a series that will make you think and fall down a rabbit hole of a mind-bending story, then look no further!
This book is dark due to Malachi’s obsession with death. I think you will either hate this series or hate for it to end. I of course love this author and hated for it to end. I knew we would see some twists with Malachi, kind of like The White series. He puts Alice through some pretty rough situations and is a bastard throughout the book.
The final book in the Lies and Truths trilogy and it did not disappoint. Charlotte made sure to keep us guessing to the end with sharp twists and turns all the way through. Ally and Malachi’s story is brought to an amazing ending. Great read
