About the author

Chie Shinohara (篠原千絵) is an award winning Japanese manga artist best-known for Red River, known in Japan as Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori: Anatolia Story. She has twice received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo, in 1987 for Yami no Purple Eye and in 2001 for Red River.

Aside from her comics work, she has also written several prose novels. She has published the six volume Big Draw Daughter Hatsu light novel series, as well as five gaiden (or side-story) novels related to her Red River series. All of these were illustrated by Shinohara herself.

Welcome to Book 25 in which Nakia's long time in coming defeat finally begins.

Ilbani, proving to be the best person ever, had captured Urhi and freed poor sweet gullible Prince Juda from Nakia's control. Rejoice! Except that Nakia helps Urhi escape and we learn that Prince Juda has way less self-esteem then we gave him credit for.

That poor kid. Also really I feel bad for Urhi and Nakia. I don't condone them, but they were in such a position that there was only one of two outcomes--supremacy or utter defeat. Neither of them would ever be all right with a middle ground option.

Also damn Urhi you really go for the GUSTO when you prove rumors false huh?

This book was great! Royal scandals, birth rights, ability to father kids, poor alibies, escaped convicts, murder sprees, Nakia's trial, Yuri being recognized as the future queen...
it was certainly a page turner. The ending though, was absolutely my favorite part. You can't top stripping in a crowded room, no matter what other climax you had in mind.

I found this series on a mere coincidence but it quickly became one of my all time favourites. I read the entire series in 1.5-2 days. It was truly wonderful and a joy to experience.

There is a little part of me that feels like the story of this volume was a bit of a filler, even though it fits in perfectly with the overall storyline. It is entirely plausible and understandable that Nakia is fighting to the bitter end, but to me it did feel a bit like trying to drag the story on a little bit longer. Maybe it's because I'm anxious for the story climax? I can't say. It wasn't horrible, I just had that little nagging feeling, and despite it, I still enjoyed the volume.

Comincia a tirarla un po' troppo lunga, però...

Ormai son sempre gli stessi temi che vengono tritati e ritritati... Mammamia, sembra uno scioglilingua.

Comunque, torna in scena Giuda, dopo parecchio tempo. E finalmente la Shinohara si dedica alla questione della sua paternità. Con un colpo di scena niente male, se posso dirlo. Non me l'aspettavo proprio. É stato forse l'unico momento in cui mi sia davvero dispiaciuto per Uruhi.

Anatolia Story vol. 1 - 28

I re-read from teenager to grown up. Not the best idea...

This may be my third re-read of this series. I am pretty sure I read it twice in the first two years of it's release. I was young, I loved it. It was romantic. But after reading it this year (maybe +15 years later....), I was wrong. I just saw wrong turns, within wrong turns. Maybe as an adult, you see things differently.

If you,ve read a manga or book during your early years and end up reading them much later in life, you may end up like me- loving a series in the past and ruining it as the adult in you laughs for once enjoying them... :(
