Ze namen me mee, weg van mijn vertrouwde omgeving. Ik werd wakker in een glazen kooi. Zij is mijn nieuwe obsessie. Mijn speeltje, mijn middel voor wraak, maar dan… Eén aanraking brengt alles in gevaar.
Richard

This was the first book I’ve read by Vi Carter & it definitely won’t be the last. Richard, son of the Mafia king, is released from an asylum that his father placed him in to teach him to control his emotions. Tortured & abused, Richard’s drive for revenge consumes him. He abducts Claire (his tormentors sister) & keeps her in a glass room in his basement. Claire is timid & scared growing up with a psychotic brother like Leonard. As the story progresses these two form a bond & end up genuinely falling for each other. Richard is able to be soft with Claire & she is able to let go & let him in. But with all mafia stories there’s so much more at play here. Family, politics, love, greed & secrets. Broken characters are always my favorite & there is something truly beautiful about two broken people finding healing in each other, together. This book held my attention & I didn’t want to put it down. This may be considered dark for some, so please heed the TW’s.
“I love you. The words are there on my lips, but I don’t voice those words. The truth of what Richard means to me is deeper than love or lust. What we are is two damaged souls healing each other.”
There were things I liked about the story. I liked that the story was atypical. Reading about a heroine being kept prisoner in a glass cage is a first for me. liked Claire, the heroine. I felt sorry for her as she was given the shaft all around. She deserved much better than Richard. She just did. Unfortunately that is who she ended up with.
I liked that the Claire and Richard were faithful to each other. Claire was a virgin and Richard was not a manhoe. He had not had sex with OW for at least 3 years. before he went into prison. It was a plus that the story including hot sexy times.
There were things that I did not like about the book as well. The story had more secondary characters then I prefer. Even though I read at least one of the other books in the series I had a hard time keeping track of, and even caring about, who was who. Talking about not caring, I didn’t care for Richard. At all. He takes Claire prisoner with the intent to kill her even though she is innocent. He then ignores her for periods of time which was causing emotional trauma. He also kills people in front of her and keeps their bodies by her cage. While readers are probably supposed to feel sorry for him because he had been imprisoned for 3 years I just didn’t. I could not get past his behavior.

This is the third book in the Irish Rebel Series and it is dark, bloody, dangerous, exciting and just what I would expect a good Mafia book to be like. This is a fantastic story that kept me on my toes the whole way through. Twisted characters tell of betrayal and so-called loyalty and I never knew who to trust from one minute to the next. This story of Richard and Claire is so far my favourite out of the three books.
Richard is an O'Reagan through and through but has been locked away in an asylum for three long years by his father, who is a vile cruel controlling man and also a King of the Irish Mafia. Now he has been freed Richard is a man out for revenge for all the wrongs that have befallen him inside and outside of that asylum. I loved Richards character and the way Vi Carter has written him I could almost feel the rage jumping from the page. When he captures Claire as a pawn and kidnaps her I got to see just how serious about revenge Richard was.
Claire was a surprise for me. I expected her to be the frightened deer in the headlights having to deal with a captor like Richard but she was quite the opposite. Strong, determined and in some ways fierce she certainly held her own when she was put in the glass box; even in fear, her bravery shone through.
With characters that shone off the page with charisma and chemistry, I loved it. This story catches up with Jack and Shay from the first two books and of course they continue to play a massive part in this story, but Richard dominated this book from start to finish and I couldn't love his character more and the influence Claire has on him.
I'm loving this series by Vi Carter and I cannot wait for book four Mafia Boss.
Talk about hidden depths! This story is not a stand-alone, instead it’s the third in the series that is simply getting darker, grittier and hotter… There is not a lot of heat in these stories but when it flares it is nuclear and you feel the flame even hotter in Richard and Claire’s story. This series is about family. Trust, betrayal, secrets and strategy with each instalment taking turn after twisty, twisty turn…
To say Claire and Richard’s relationship starts on a rocky footing is like saying Mt Rushmore is a wee little statue of a mountain. The characters, their relationships and the winding turns their story take is riveting as well as shocking at times. I expect the grit, the violence, yet this series constantly surprises me with the depths that people will go for power and dynasty. I’ve warmed up to this series and Claire and Richard put it all in perspective as each emotion-filled step had me clinging to hope as well as my kindle…
With an unexpectedly quiet end I can feel that lull won’t last long. There is one more story to tell and I think that may be the most risky for the ones who have already fallen in love and those that may not get the chance… That story can’t happen soon enough for me! ~Diane, 4.5 stars
This book is my definition of Dark Mafia romance. Alpha male, chequered past, kidnapping, dark, deep and twisty, I devoured it. After reading Mafia Prince and Mafia King, I didn't think Vi could write it any better, and she knocked it out the star. Richard stole my heart with his ways, and Claire was a lovely female lead, with her character developing as the story went on. Richard has been kept away for a few years and is back to face his family, history and many demons. Seeking Claire out and letting her in his life, I loved Richard's character developing too. A great story, plot and detail into the scenes that made me feel like I was right there with the characters. The spice scenes where hot too!! I'm Recommended for Dark mafia lovers for sure.
Richard is being called back to take his place as one of the 4 Kings, though the reasons behind his prolonged vacation away from the family buisness was not due to weakness that most of his family had been led to believe, but something far darker. Releasing Richard unleashes something no one can control, his thirst for revenge unstoppable, especially when it comes to his latest obsession. Claire had been battling a past trauma, its what led her to visit her past every week at the asylum, where she unknowingly caught the eye of Richard and his obsession began. Now trapped in his glass box, she realises she will never leave, as Richard struggles to tamper the feelings she enlists within him, it leads him to opening the box he swore never to re-enter. Will he get his revenge, he so desperately craves or will giving in to Claire complicate things? How will his family react to the news of his return? Is Liam O'Reagans days numbered? Well written book 3 in the series and works best as part of it. The characters draw you in to the dark and captivating story, thats filled with suspense, drama, action, violence, desires, hot scenes and more!
I'll start with this. This book is not for the faint of heart. It's dark, dirty and twisted. If this is your cup of tea, then Mafia Games is the perfect book for you. I keep thinking book after book that this series can't get any better, and book after book this author proves me wrong. Mafia Games is a dark, unexpected, tragic, emotional, and in my opinion, beautiful. Richard and Claire both have been put in positions neither of them should have been thrown into and even though they survived, it left scars that it seems can only be healed by each other. Claire finds a darkness in her she didn't know existed. Things don't start out quite so easy, but when they do heat up, OH MY GOODNESS, the chemistry is EXPLOSIVE! Mafia Games is another incredible read in the Young Irish Rebels series. Mafia Boss can't come soon enough.
Wow...this had it all!! Loads of action, suspense, Kidnapping, romance and a really intense plot!! Let's just say this plot will keep you on your toes and just when you think you know who the villain is...Vi throws a spanner in the works, which will leave you questioning everything!! I really enjoyed how Richard and Claires story evolved. The push and pull between them and the super intense chemistry was just brilliant!! I really loved the darker edge to the unusual circumstances around how they came to meet!!
This was definitely not your typical mafia romance...it had a dark edge to it which I loved!! I literally cannot wait for more from this author!! Vi Carter is fast becoming the queen of Irish Mafia!! 🖤
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
The saga of the O'Reagans continues with Richard..... Not going to lie I was worried what him coming back would mean for Jack and Shay but I was not prepared for what actually happens, there after so many twists and revelations, and Liam is just getting more evil .... I hate him. Can't wait for the next book.... Dana could actually be the unwitting catalyst for Liam
Wow! This is dark but it's also so much more than that. Richard and Claire are kindred spirits in a sense and form this undeniable connection. While it may have started as revenge, you can't deny the chemistry. This was intriguing, dark, sexy, and so so entertaining.
Richard is a broken, dark, anti-hero that will win your heart!
Rating: 5 stars Steam: 2 flames Genre: Mafia / Dark / Captive & Captor Romance ***** “If Lucifer was to take human form and wear an Armani suit, I’m sure this man would fit the profile perfectly. He’s harshly beautiful.” This is my favorite quote of the entire book...and it sums up Richard perfectly!
I totally fell in love with Richard. He is dark, depraved, and a whole lot of twisted, yet he can also be magnanimous (I love that word)...he is a true enigma. He is also one of the four Mafia Kings, but his vision of the future does not exactly line up with his father’s, Liam. Who can Richard trust? Jack, Shay, Liam? (Ohhh, I do not like Liam at all)
Claire has been abused and has suffered tremendous loss. When she is abducted from her home and wakes up in a glass box, she knows she is in trouble, especially when she looks into the eyes of her captor, Richard. She sees no benevolence and she is convinced she will die in that box. Especially after she witnesses several deaths....
What happens next is a rollercoaster ride of suspense, betrayal, secrets, lies, and revelations. Once I started the book, I simply couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t wait to watch the layers of the storyline slowly peeled back. I think I may have stopped breathing a couple of times as I turned pages anticipating what would happen next!
Mafia Games, the third book in the Young Irish Rebels series, was FANTASTIC. Dark and twisty is my crack… but add in brutal, revenge, romance, steam, violence and a little taboo kink… and it's a winner winner chicken dinner!
I have enjoyed this entire series and I truly can’t wait to see what happens next. If you are a fan of dark mafia I highly recommend this series.
there isn't much about Mafia Games that i liked, but for some reason i still finished it and i feel like that is a feat in an of itself for the book and also for me. the best way for me to sum up my complaints is that the characters felt like paper to me. they were flimsy, no-substance, one-note characters. so many horrible, painful things happen to them all, but none of them react the way that i think they should - and it's not even so much that i think Carter is trying to subvert the mafia genre (or trying to exemplify it), but more so that it just felt like all the emotion and life was stripped away from the story.
Claire in particular was so frustrating to read, especially in her pov, because it gave us none of the emotion or backstory that her past felt like it should convey. Richard's pov was slightly better - at least his motivations were clear. however, this book really cannot be read as a standalone as any time the Kings, his father, and some random guy name Lucien was brought up in conversation, i could feel my eyes glazing over. i guess it's my fault for not reading the previous books, but i'm also sorely disappointed that Mafia Games doesn't have enough substance to hold together an individual plot.
this book just barely scrapes out of the one-star category on the romance alone. not to say it was compelling, or interesting, or realistic, but the pairing of a sweet girl and a bad boy will always have a soft spot in my heart, so it's far more the tropes and promise of it that kept me going than anything that was actually on the page.
I do not understand how this absolute drivel has such a high rating on here.
1% of this is plot building. 300 pages and I could condense this into one sentence:
“Unhinged psycho kidnaps woman for what is a largely undisclosed reason, only to have them instantly fall in love, while the O’Reagan Irish mafia continues to be a cluster fuck”
Extreme Stockholm syndrome Unlikeable characters.
Do I bother reading the next two? I need to stop buying full series before I read the first one.
Dark but Delicious!! This novel by Vi Carter exceeded my expectations of how she was going to continue the story of the O’Reagan, Irish Mafia Family saga in the 3rd book in the series of Young Irish Rebels. But Ms. Carter is the consummate author who knows exactly what she is doing and the best way to go about that task! She tells the story of Claire and Richard, who are originally caught up by the devastating circumstances where their lives have led them to cross paths at an asylum for the mentally challenged, which in Richard’s case had been used by his despicable father Liam O’Reagan, as the ideal place to teach his son a lesson and punish him at the same time for infractions he allegedly committed against his father. The anguish and horror of finding himself locked up in an asylum against his will was vividly and realistically portrayed in Mafia Games, like being trapped in a nightmare. Horrible things are done to Richard by other patients which result in his killing a nurse. That event complicates his father’s plan for a short lesson and turns it into a 3 year ordeal. Richard bides his time, working on perfecting and strengthening his body into a machine so that he can get revenge for these wrongs, starting with his father, and the patients who attacked him. Part of Richard’s revenge involved Claire, the “angel” who faithfully visited her brother Leonard, a fellow patient at the asylum, involved in the attack on Richard. The story begins when Richard is released, and he kidnaps Claire. There are many twists and turns that I won’t give away, that are totally unexpected. And while this is a very steamy novel, it is also a very dark read, but oh so delicious!
I thoroughly enjoyed the previous books in this series and love this one too, especially how different it is. It is intriguing and exciting from the very first page—however, I always thought Richard’s book would be—but this is so much more.
As the story goes on we get clearer character descriptions of both lead characters, Richard and Claire. Both are extremely different yet balance each other so well. At various times my heart goes out to both of them for different reasons, I don’t want to give anything away but one word will be a big enough clue—family! Richard is so very different to Jack yet similar too, and thankfully, although he might look like his father, he is not a carbon copy. Claire is a total sweetheart and I love her self-honesty, it’s refreshing.
There are more twists and turns in this fast-paced story than a formula one racetrack and I enjoyed each and every one, wellll… almost every one! Some are shocking, some are ingenious and some are ‘Yes! Thank goodness for that!’ sort of twists. Whichever type, they all keep you on your toes with anticipation and excitement.
This definitely is a dark story, it is very raw and gritty at times and that’s being polite. Every deliciously dark moment has purpose and believe it or not, balance too. I am so looking forward to the next book, Mafia Boss, where we get to know Dana, Richard and Jack’s sister, and the new character introduced in this book, Cillian O’Hara.
Dark, twisted mafia romance that keeps you guessing what will happen next. This series has been brilliant and intriguing all at the same time. Every book, each character has been easy to love, and the antiheroes make it the best. This book follows the long lost O’Reagan brother, Richard who has been gone for three years because his father wanted to prove a point. He’s been locked up in an asylum that he didn’t deserve to be, hurt after years and torture he has become a monster in hiding waiting for his turn to find his revenge. Claire has been through some traumatizing events growing up as she struggles day to day just to survive, she is a ghost of herself. This story has so many twists, ups, downs, I couldn’t put it down and was wondering what would happen next. Richard sees himself as a heartless monster that can’t be changed but when it came to Claire a little softness would start to show. He had some dark tendencies after being hurt in the asylum, yet he turns it into more with Claire. This has some triggers with dark spots here and there, but I really loved watching Richard accept his darkness yet showing some of his kindness to Claire. The battle with his father is far from over and the story will continue, I can’t wait for more. This story was amazing, dark, but beautiful. Two souls helping each other heal.
Ohhh....and the plot thickens! Absolutely brilliant!
Mafia Games is the third installment in the Young Irish Rebels Series featuring Richard O'Reagan - second son to Liam O'Reagan, King of the Irish Mafia - and Claire, his tormentor' sister. I must say that I loooved Shay' story, but Richard's is another level up. Richard is revenge thirsty against his dad and the ones that tormented him while he was away. If you thought there was something Liam wasn't capable of, think again....he's a mass manipulator as has always been, but now, the young Irish (second generation) are becoming more and more aware of the games he plays and the schematics under his every move. It's a story of de-captivity and a new captivity, revenge, machinations, wavering trust, precarious loyalty, family, protectiveness, and a love not meant to be. It was beautiful to see Richard and Claire break their walls for each other, connect, empathyze and falling in love. For someone taught to control his emotions to the point of being punished as a lesson to settle it, Richard was very hard to crack, but he did crack for Claire. With her own demons to chase away and dealing with trauma, Claire was a strong protagonist, rebelling against her situation of lock-up, believing in the possibility to escape and finally melting Richard's icy heart. And, imo, it was this strenght that made Richard aknowledge her, her really self and decide to keep her, instead, not to mention, how amused Claire made him feel. Another engaging aspect of the book is the fact that the wheels are turning and the arcaic managemento of the criminal organization lost his appeal to the younger generation that wants to rule in full disclosure, loyalty and trust. An extremelly well executed narrative, entwining past, present and a future that promises great changes, great arrangements, love stories and a stronger family and by association an imposing syndicate. Secrets were revealed and now Dana O'Reagan is on her way to meet her near future......with a ghost, no less. So excited already! Now, my heart talking....I really hope, Liam can redeem himself at last. I want to believe he's doing all this for a greater good or bad, depends how you see it, and not for himself only. Sevetlana would be severely disapointed. L❤ved, l❤ved the book!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.
This is the 3rd book of the series and sees missing brother Richard O'Reagan return to take his place as a King. And oh what a twisted tale this is! Things are never what they seem throughout the story. You may think you have guessed what is truth and then BAM! The story changes.
Claire starts out as a simple pawn in the mafia game. Richard is out for revenge and she is the means to an end. What he doesn't suspect is that she has a mind of her own and it will take more than a glass box to break her.
This is a dark, bloody story. Truly the underbelly of the Irish Mafia gets a spotlight in this book. I was not only intrigued by richard but also rooting for him to succeed as the story went on. I have a feeling the next book is going to blow me away even more.
You should start this series from the beginning so you can follow the story arc. Great read!
*Complimentary copy provided for an honest review.
Mafia Games by Vi Carter is a dark Irish mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Scott Rose and Ada Sinclair. This is the third book in the Young Irish Rebels series.
I absolutely love Vi's books. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the chemistry between Richard and Claire. Their relationship is messy, but you couldn't help but root for them. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I can't wait for the next book in the series Mafia Boss to be released on audio so I can get Cillian and Dana's story.
Scott and Ada did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story a life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, mafia romances, captive romances, or romantic suspense.
Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved Richard and the incredibly good story with Claire. This has so much drama and action throughout it. It is a grab you by the seat and keep you stuck until you reach the end. I didn’t want their story to end. It is drawing us deeper and deeper into the Irish Mafia world. Claire is this sweet and kind soul that you just can’t help but love. It is extremely well written and the characters are stunningly beautiful. We see characters from the first two books that completely add to the story that extra element. The descriptions are vivid as they allow me to picture more of the scenes easily. This only helps me to get drawn deeper into the story. I absolutely love this series and can’t wait to see what happens next. This is an absolute must read.
Was absolutely blown away by this amazing read, wow i really enjoyed Richard he was an extremely dark alpha male. He was so emotionally unhinged by how his father did him and the things he put him through. The two main characters Richard and Claire were equal on one aspect they both have had an extremely troubling past and what started out as revenge turned into something else totally.
Richard is rich and powerful and, in an elite, mafia family but he is so affected by what has been done to him while his dad had him locked up in an asylum to make him fall into line with his place as part of the mafia team. Claire was brought to Richard because she was kidnapped and there to suffer because her brother tried to kill Richard.
Absolutely enjoyed this read because it was full of suspense and lots of twists and turns with many types of emotions such as: Hate, Greed, Revenge, Loss & Trust Issues. Can't wait to see what this author comes up with next in this powerful series.
MAFIA GAMES is a creative and intense addition to the Irish Mafia series. Richard has plenty of reasons to be a deadly, deranged monster of a man. Just when I thought his father Liam was a terrible example of a father, he proves over and over he can be even worse.
Claire’s life just adds so much to the depth of the broken people in this story. Vi Carter not only does a wonderful job turning her weaknesses to strengths, but she masterfully interconnects the characters in complex ways yet reveals their layers like a master storyteller.
MAFIA GAMES is good on its own, but you will love reading Jack and Shay’s stories first to truly appreciate how depraved some of these people are.

I’m a little unsure how to rate this book. On the one hand the story started off one way and suddenly it went another and that through me off. This is the 3rd book in the Young Irish Rebels series. I’ve read all three books and enjoyed them. This story is about Richard, the Mafia King’s youngest son. This guy was just released from an asylum. It was imposed by his father and supposed to last 3 days but 3 days turned into 3 years after he kills a guard. Upon leaving, he decides to exact revenge against his tormentor by abducting and killing his sister, Claire. Claire also suffered by her brother’s cruelty so they actually have hatred of him in common. A lot of push/pull and angst in this story. One minute I feel quite sad for them then the next moment I feel like yelling so it does invoke a lot of emotional responses from readers.

This is the third book in this series and I would say the darkness so far. I loved it. Richard was a new level of crazy, in his will to seek revenge on the people who had wronged him. But this madman had a heart and it's slowing being turned from black to pumping full of life when Claire enters his life. Claire was not living in the after effects from her childhood, trying to survive day to day, until a man shows up at her door and changes her life forever. She was freed from her bondage of crippling pain and fear when Richard kidnaps her and subjects her to fear and torment, that will eventually free her soul. Excellent read.
Claire and Richard. an interesting plot of the story and crazy family side of the mafia. I felt bad for Claire for her background story and that she was caged in a glass box just because of her brother's life, and also her brother.. HATE HIM, EVIL AND DESPICABLE! I would have put him not in asylum i would have put him away for a long time. Now once it got the end.. it does end peacefully but letting the other readers know there is to be a soft cliffhanger meaning it gets ready for the next book so Claire and Richard is done but it gets it ready for Dana and Cillian story. But overall i liked that attentive plot and betrayal, love, and even caged feeling nad desperate but nothing to be able to handle while reading :)

Claire and Richard are both very damaged souls. Claire’s brother broke both her legs so that she couldn’t help when he killed their parents by arson and Richard’s father institutionalized him to teach him a lesson. Will their love and caring for each other be enough against all of the odds against them. Excellent story with amazing characters. This was book three of the Young Irish Rebels Series and continues with the same excellence as the previous books. Good read!

Two damaged souls healing each other. It’s not an easy story to read, there was so much abuse in both our characters lives. Story that started as vengeance in the darkest ways will finish not in rainbows and unicorns love story, but in deepest of relationship. All this in this dark world of mafia, with family troubles, with twisted ways. It’s not an easy road, not the easy feelings. And oh, it’s so steamy. Richard’s rage can be felt very well from pages, it hit you directly. I simply loved this book and this story.
My father taught us to have emotions was dangerous and after 3 years in an asylum as a punishment he had come to take me home. My name is Richard O'Reagan and I am going to settle scores. First I take a woman her name is Claire she will suffer before I kill her. It's time to right the wrongs gone to me. Family betrayal is a dangerous game and I am just getting started. Simply perfect, I can't get enough of this family, they hate fiercely and love intensely, I voluntarily reviewed this book
This book was awesome! Ms. Carter has the gift of being such a vivid storyteller that the reader "feels" what the characters do and she had outdone herself with this story! This a story of betrayal and revenge, as well as, love and hate. The characters in this story are fantastically developed and the twists and turns of this storyline will have your stomach on edge like a roller coaster! This is an absolute MUST READ!
