No man would ever have a hold on her again!

Romily's heart was sealed. She'd discovered that the man she loved, and who she thought loved her, was married. Hurt and humiliated, she left London for a job as cook at her brother's soon-to-open hotel in the Scottish Highlands.

Then she met James Gordon, a Highland laird angry about the encroaching tourists the hotel would bring--and more handsome and virile than the devil himself.

Slowly he pried at the seals of Romily's heart. And despite her vow, despite her fears, Romily found his presence exciting, enticing ...and dangerous.

Re Tiger in His Lair - SW brings us another non-vengeance HP with a remarkably stable h who is actually pretty good about standing up for herself and dealing with the evil HP OW.

The h is a professional chef who is leaving London due to finding out her long time lover was married and never bothered to let her know. She thought he was really busy with his up and coming company director career and that he had to travel a lot. Since she has worked in several high caliber hotels, the h decides to help her older half brother out when he opens his new Highland Scottish hotel in his wife's former family home.

The h doesn't know her older half brother well, they have different mothers and there is 15 years between them plus he has been overseas for several years, so she is looking forward to getting to know him better and recovering from the emotional devastation her dumping the two timing ex has caused.

She gets to the hotel and spends a lot of time helping her brother and his kinda witchy wife get the rooms ready for occupation and sorting out the kitchen. The h is out walking one day and she meets the H. The relationship between her brother and sister in law seems a bit strained, but the h really doesn't want to know, she just wants to get the kitchen working properly.

He owns the neighboring estate and is also a wealthy company director and totally against having hotels in the Highlands. The h and he have a little flirty conversation and then they part ways. The brother and his wife warn the h off of the H, they say is a rake and a womanizer, but the h thinks there is something more behind their antagonism towards him even though they say they hardly know him. The h meets the H again and has lunch with him while she is shopping in town. She likes him, he seems pretty charming but she is a bit wary of getting close to any womanizer, especially after her recent heartbreak.

The brother's wife is exceptionally vehement that the h stay away from the H, but since she has agreed to meet him again when he promises to hook her up with a genuine Scottish cook that can share some genuine Scottish recipes, the h disregards the sister in law's warnings and sharply tells her to mind her own affairs.

The H manages to gradually seduce her into dating him over the course of taking her to visit the genuine Scottish cook and enticing her with powerboat rides along the loch. They secretly date for months, mainly cause the h doesn't want her relatives interfering in her business and the h explains her sad past to the H where she became her boyfriend's lover when he gave her a ring and she thought they were engaged, until the birth announcement of the boyfriend's second child was in the paper and the h realized he was already married and dumped him.

Finally they both give into their mutual passion and the H decides that they need to be open about their relationship. The h invites him the hotel's opening evening party, but changes her mind at the last minute and leaves the H a note not to come. He shows up anyway, and the whole situation blows up. The h's brother gets really drunk and tries to throw the H out, the sister in law gets really evil and the h finds out that the H and sister in law had a brief fling ten years earlier.

The sister in law was married to the brother but he was out of the country, the H was a young man playing around and the sister in law was the older woman who seduced him. He got tired of her manipulations pretty quick and then tried to tell him she was preggers with his child. The H did not believe it and dropped her. Then the sister in law told her husband and he and the sister in law went overseas for several years.

The sister in law claims she and the brother stayed married cause she loves him, but the h catches on pretty quickly that the sister in law would have dropped her brother like a shot if the H had wanted her. The sister in law is really, really witchy to the h and tries to order her around like a servant, but the h reprimands her several times. She tells the sister in law that she isn't fooling her, the sister in law is jealous that she has been discarded by the H cause he did not want to be involved with her anymore and the sister in law doesn't like it.

The drunken brother is pretty rude to the h too, and the h decides she needs to leave the sorry pair to their own devices. The brother begs her not to leave just yet, they need to find a replacement cook and the h reluctantly agrees. The sister in law keeps saying really negative things about the h and her relationship with the H, which the h pretty calmly refutes and again tells her she is just envious cause the H thinks she is manipulative trash. Then the sister in law insists that her youngest child is the H's son, and the pathetic brother in law believes it too.

The H totally refutes that later, he had blood tests done when the baby was born and whoever the father is, it isn't him. He swears he only wants the h and she believes him. The sister in law isn't going to quit tho. The sister in law insists that the H wants her, so she calls him up and demands that the H meet her right away. The H shows up at the meeting place and the h sees the H and sister in law embracing and then they disappear into the house for about an hour. The h is livid, she goes to confront the H.

She lets the H have it, she is ranting and he is trying to get a word in but she won't hear it. Then the H carries her off to his castle, rips her dress and throws her on the bed and explains. The sister in law sold her family home to him and he bought it to close the hotel and on the condition that the sister in law leaves the area and never returns. The sister in law threw herself on him, but he really despises her and pushed her off, the hour they were together was to haggle over the price of the house and make the sister in law leave the area.

He knows the sister in law is manipulative tart, she seduced him cause she was bored and then he dumped her and she tried every trick in the book to get him back. He swears he loves the h only and he is definitely marrying her, the h believes him, cause she has seen the sister in law's machinations with her brother first hand. They both avow true love forever and the H declares that he has drug her to his special Overlord of the Castle Bed cause she is the only girl he has ever had in it and he was reserving it for his true love and wife for the big HEA.

This was a good one, but there was no SW craziness except for the wanna be OW sister in law who wouldn't be stopped by a black hole. I liked the H and h in this one, they were both very believable and I really liked that the h had no problems standing up for herself or confronting people when they tried to do her harm.

The H is completely genuine and charming and I really believed him too when he said he made a stupid young man mistake with the sister in law and that he extracted himself from her as quickly as he could. I also believed that he had changed as he matured, it was apparent in his care and courting of the h. Give this one a go if you run across it and you won't be disappointed.

Heroine went out with a married man for two years before she discovered the truth about him. Nursing a broken heart, she left London for Scotland to be a cook at her brother’s newly opened lodge. There she met the hero, owner of a castle and a bad reputation. They begin an affair, but all hell lets loose when she invites him to a party at her brother’s.

Seems hero had an affair with heroine’s sister-in-law and only broke it off after she tried to trap him with a pregnancy. That was ten years ago, but sister-in-law still wants him back.

The misunderstandings pile up until the hero buys out the brother and sister-in-law and insists they move at least a 100 miles away. (LOL)

Everyone in this had the morals of an alley cat. I was not amused.

What's with the title? She I like our heroine, but everyone around her was like stuck in a tornado around her, dropping in, flying away, dropping back in to destroy stuff. It was nuts. So much happened in the last 2 chapters it was nuts. The hero could have told the heroine anytime, but nah wait til it's the worst possible time! And he was very disrespectful of the heroine's brother, just saying. So many loose ends. Why did he buy the hotel? Shouldn't the brother know the kid is his? Why was the sister in law acting a fool? Why didn't the hero speak up a bit, he let the heroine not know what was going on for the entire book. Skip, cause it wasn't fun.

Bizarre title, no resemblance to the H, James, who by HP alpha standards was decidedly not tigerish, nor to the setting (Soggy Scottish Highlands brrr). The h Romily had a backbone and her brother and his wife were the hotel-converting bad guys in this fairly non angsty and to me a bit dreary romance. I'm afraid Scotland tends to do that to me.

Good one by Sally Wentworth, I liked how the couple laughed together and how their relationship developed before the sh-t hit the fan. It gave them a good basis for trusting each other and moving on when the real disgusting circumstances came out.

I read vintage trade romance. That means putting up with some awful Hs. But this is the most selfish, horrible, awful H ever
..at least in the top 10. At 25, when he should have known better, he has an affair with a married woman with a 2 two year old, tells her he loves her, then dumps her when she wants to divorce her husband and marry him. 10 years later he "falls in love" with the h, who is the sister of the cheated on husband. He never apologizes, never tried to make amends, blames the OW sister in law for the whole mess... he was just a boy being a boy. Heroine should have strung him along for his $ and a settlement for her brother then dumped him publicly with a tell all about what a complete a$$hole the guy is. Just yuck.
