Good book with an interesting narrative and a surprisingly effective portrayal of an animal's thought-process. The switch between perspectives later in the story is nice and I enjoyed it.

I am sorry but I don't know how this book doesn't have a better rating. Growing up as an animal lover, I would often read books similar to this and some were pretty average but this book is one of my all time favourites. It tells the story of a relationship between a family/young boy and a rescued orangutan and what they have to go through when the release her back into the wild (I know the cover features the wrong kind of ape, please ignore that mistake), it is also the story of the tragic and devastating things that are happening to rainforests all over the world because of palm oil plantations. Please get your children to read this book and please get educated about palm oil and rubber plantations and the devastating effects they are having on orangutan populations and rainforests and also how you can help the people who rely on them to earn a living some other way. Buy palm oil free products where ever possible (it's used in make up and foods mostly so check the ingredients list)
