Beautiful Princess Hime is an awesome warrior who fights the forces of evil--werewolves, demons, vamprires, monsters, etc.--with a chainsaw and a smile, as well as the help of her undead servant Hiro and a supercute robot named Flandre. She also has magic that allows her to rescurrect the dead.
The final chapter of this volume, 14 (Princess Ocean), really kicked things up a notch. First you think it's about a ghost ship, then you see zombies, and it keeps getting more insane from there with a bunch of different monsters and spirits. We're being fed some plot little by little but we're finally getting introduced to some siblings who could serve as credible antagonists. I'm still wishing we had more plot to go on, or some stronger action, by Mitsunaga proves this volume that they can draw some great monsters and I love how each of them is incorporated into the story.
Some enjoyable Manga versions of supernatural monsters try to menace the Princess and her crew. Some of the later stories get more inventive with the monsters too and the story arc about the rivals in the Royal family is developing too. It's a bit of fun.
Princess Resurrection: Volume 3 is another wonderful bit of manga. I love all the wacky creatures that are always attacking the princesses. I do wonder why Hime isn't training Hiro to be a better fighter. He is her blood warrior, after all, but has absolutely no fighting skills. Maybe that is why he keeps dying. I would love to see him get some training so he can properly defend his master.
The writing of the stories is great and the translation and adaptation from Japanese to English is fantastic. The dialog flows very well, which is something I enjoy.
As for the manga itself, it is perfect for this type of story. I believe that Yasunori Mitsunaga art has actually improved as the series has progressed. I greatly anticipated reading this book, and I wasn't disappointed. I read the book in one sitting and couldn't put it down.
I guess the series is rated 16 and older for the violence, but I wouldn't have a problem letting my 13-year old daughter read this series because there isn't any sex in it, like in so many other manga books.
Princess Resurrection is quickly becoming one of my favorite manga series.
Princess Resurrection: Volume 3 is an excellent manga book and absolutely loved it. All of the wacky characters are wonderful and the mystery of who will someday sit on the throne is intriguing. I look forward to more battles with the undead in Princess Resurrection: Volume 4. Maybe we will get to meet another one of Hime's siblings? Let's hope so. More blood will flow, I'm sure.
Three volumes and still as generic as ever. This story is an average and uninspiring horror, and I say horror in the loosest term as it’s not at all scary, suspenseful, unsettling, or even surprising. I can see this being good if your new to manga but it’s just a bit boring if not. It’s very easy to read, not much text, and features a variety of classic monster but in a more lighthearted and childish way. It lacks the character development and actual plot that I crave. And there is literally no tension or suspense! There are fights in pretty much every chapter and it makes me want to roll my eyes rather than be excited. It’s like a discount version of Rosario + Vampire. Going for the same demographic, similar theme, and same early 2000s feel but in Princess Resurrection it’s nowhere near as fun, the characters are far less memorable, it’s not a harem, and the general story is just lacking in so many ways. It’s by no means terrible but reading it leaves me with no emotions. As I already own the books I’ll read them but I would have the same experience if I weren’t to read them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
