I’m still under the impression that this series has a lot of potential, but once again I don’t think it met it quite yet.
This book while still focused around Owen, spent a lot of time doing character as well as world development elsewhere. New characters were introduced left right and centre, and I’d only just got a feel for Owen and his friends so it didn’t work for me.
Huff’s writing has always been filled with long and detailed descriptions, this book was no exception, and although it made sure you knew exactly what was going on and where, it made me feel more detached than it has previously and I felt a lot more like a bystander to the story than living it.
Something that I’d consider an impressive feat, was how even with these descriptions he was able to weave a lesson into the story. It’s subtle but the way it comes into play in the plot also makes it powerful. Owen has to make some important choices in this book that can shape a lot more than just his life at that moment, so to teach the importance of all decisions and their outcomes whether they affect only that day or the rest of their lives and who they become is a great thing.

Rather than diving right in and giving one of those extensive, in-depth reviews that discloses the Story and then get the Reviewer's thoughts and opinions, I stay with just the opinion.
Somehow all the 'rage' is vampire, werewolf, or brain-eating mutant creature(s). The 'market' is flooded with too many of these and find it where discovering something different is a rarity among all this literary creativeness (or lack of to leach off an already highly overplayed genre). Give me a good Fantasy or Science Fiction to read and fully enjoy any day rather than having to endured another crappy book that I wasted my time because of a stupid, ripped-off idea of a plot and someone proclaiming it's the best thing they ever read. Hyperbole pure and simple.
The 'uniqueness' of this Everville Fantasy Series is the real key word here in how a tale grabs at your mind and is then devoured and remembered being quite exceptionally good with each installment/volume released.
Fantasy settings have always intrigued me.
Culled from the imagination of the Author, their deeply offered, written thoughts are now yours to contemplate.
A great pleasure to have read and should not be missed by anyone who immensely enjoyed the first imaginative novel that introduced the reader to Everville: (The First Pillar).
Mr. Huff, my utmost thanks to you for crafting such an intriguing story for me to enjoy. The 2nd volume (Everville: City Of Worms) continues the fight against the evil and malicious Them and completely delivers as an outstanding reading experience from start to end.

I loved visiting with these characters again. The author held true to the first story creating new characters that within the world of fantasy are very believable. One of my students told me the other day that she liked reading books that was more like turning a movie on in her brain. I know exactly what she was talking about. This author is wonderful at creating that movie in your brain. His descriptions of characters and the battles are a real treat for a visual person like me.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the way a lesson was woven into the story without coming across as preachy. In school we are always teaching our middle schoolers that the decisions they make today will affect their lives and the person they become for a long time. This book carries that same message. Owen has to make some tough decisions that carry some very have effects for the future.
I used to say I didn't like reading fantasy. However, if you were to check my shelves at school, the fantasy section makes up at least a quarter of all of my books. That would be somewhere around 300 to 350 fantasy books. What I discovered was that I don't care for adult fantasy books. I love middle grade and young adult fantasy. This one is a great addition to my school shelves, and one that I recommend to all fantasy lovers.

Everville: The City of Worms by Roy Huff is the second book in the Everville series and like the first book it will grab you by the seat of your pants and keep you glued to the story. This YA adventure is full of action and intrigue.
The author did a great job of continuing to develop the Everville storyline and the transition from book one to this book was seamless. I really enjoyed the way the author developed multiple plot lines with constant twist and turns which kept me hooked. Even with all the plot twist it was easy to keep up and Roy Huff brought it all together for an exciting conclusion. But, he set the stage for the next book in the series.
I really liked the way Roy Huff developed each of his characters. They are real and very believable. It was easy to follow along and place yourself into the story as a silent partner. I liked the way the heroes of the story had depth and were easy to identify with.
I really enjoyed Everville: The City of Worms by Roy Huff and I highly recommend this book to all readers.

I was impressed by this book. Continuing on from the first book in the series, Roy Huff has once again proved his talent for building unforgettable settings and highly original creatures to inhabit them.
I liked the character progression I saw in this book. From the first story the main character has grown a lot and we were able to see him more three dimensionally this time around. I found the dialogue engaging and the plot moved forward in ways that I had not expected.
One thing that is truly remarkable about this series, and this book in particular, is the way the author draws the reader into the story right along with the characters. Whilst reading Roy Huff's work, you don't feel like a simple bystander, but rather that you are getting the opportunity to experience what the characters are experiencing and go along for the journey with them.
Some of the simple logistics issues I had with the first book were worked out int his one. This was a smooth ride with no bumps along the way.
Th ending of this book was very well written and I am now excited to read the third installment.

City of Worms is the second book in the Everville series. Protagonist, Owen Sage, a college student, is once again battling the forces of evil. The antagonistic Them are trying to invade the idyllic world of Everville. It's up to Owen and his friends to stop the Them. The story oscillates between Everville, The Earthly Realm, and The Other In Between lands. There is an impressive cast of characters from such creatures known as Marmooks, From, and Ubaloo. Some readers may find it challenging to keep it all straight in their heads, especially if they haven't read the first book.
The biggest strength of this book is the descriptive writing, which allows readers to visualize the action. It is particularly good in the description of the City of Worms and the final battle scene. But be prepared to feel the need to purchase the next installment in the series, as the cliffhanger at the end leaves the reader wanting more.
If you are a fan of YA fantasy, this imaginative story is probably one you will enjoy.

Everville ~ The City of Worms is the second book in the series and Owen, a college student continues as the main character and leader in the fight of good against evil. The battle descriptions put the reader in the middle of the action in this parallel world with an interesting group of other world creatures. Roy Huff's ability to make them seem real makes this a great fantasy. Exciting from beginning to end, it leaves the reader wanting to find out what will happen in the next episode for Everville. Fantasy lovers this is a must read, as the descriptions of the fantasy world is top notch.

Just as good as book one. I really liked how the theme of redemption and forgiveness is pushed in this part of the series. There are no greater lessons to be learned in life as humility. Will def begin reading book three soon. Good pastime.

A confused Cleophas suffering from bouts of memory loss is determined to fight the evil invading the earthly realm even after he courageously hands over his leadership to Avery. In Everville the fortitude and determination of the Fron, the Keeper, and two of the repentant traitors-Elmer and Calvin -are unforgettable as are their nemeses; the arrogant, conniving, abusive Oldrik, the contemptible, proud Jacob, and the power-hungry turncoat Mallory.

What can I say?
The second book was as magical and as fantastic as the first book.
Roy has still this good eye for descriptions and a wide mind for imaginations. Everything was in order and everything was so captivating. You can really see it in your eyes, what was happening. You can, especially, intricately picture out the images that Roy wants you to see. That is a very good point for an author. It was not boring at all.
What made me like the book so much is that it was, this time, mostly, action and adventure. There was no resting point in this book. My heart always skips a beat.
CHARACTERS
Owen was still the Owen that we knew. He is still this charming kid who is always taken to Everville by the keeper. Then there's Anika who is just as loving as ever. She loves her friends so much. hmm..Then Dante, if you can haven't read the first book, Dante was in a state of Coma because of helping Owen by channeling his energy to help in the war against Them.
What I love about the characters is that they are so captivating (I say this in a lot of my reviews). Captivating characters means true characters. You feel them.
You can feel that he someone is really bad because of the way they are pictured in the book- how they act, talk and grin. haha! You can see their evil faces when they do that or when the author says so.
THE PLOT
With Roy's awesome skills, he delivered a well arranged and well thought plot. It is not topsy-turvy like some books where some parts should be placed before or after a certain part.
HOWEVER.
I have minor issues about the book. One is the writing (this is different from the descriptions, okay?) . There are times that I noticed that there are some misplaced modifiers, if you know what I mean. That's not so obvious but that is still gramatically wrong. hmm.. but you can still get it, you still enjoy the book.

I really enjoyed and loved the book. I am looking forward to book 3.
The second book was as magical and as fantastic as the first book.
Roy has still this good eye for descriptions and a wide mind for imaginations. Everything was in order and everything was so captivating. You can really see it in your eyes, what was happening. You can, especially, intricately picture out the images that Roy wants you to see. That is a very good point for an author. It was not boring at all.
What made me like the book so much is that it was, this time, mostly, action and adventure. There was no resting point in this book. My heart always skips a beat.
CHARACTERS
Owen was still the Owen that we knew. He is still this charming kid who is always taken to Everville by the keeper. Then there's Anika who is just as loving as ever. She loves her friends so much. hmm..Then Dante, if you can haven't read the first book, Dante was in a state of Coma because of helping Owen by channeling his energy to help in the war against Them.
What I love about the characters is that they are so captivating (I say this in a lot of my reviews). Captivating characters means true characters. You feel them.
You can feel that he someone is really bad because of the way they are pictured in the book- how they act, talk and grin. haha! You can see their evil faces when they do that or when the author says so.
THE PLOT
With Roy's awesome skills, he delivered a well arranged and well thought plot. It is not topsy-turvy like some books where some parts should be placed before or after a certain part.
HOWEVER.

Exclusive Review : The City of Worms (Everville #2)
I happen to be among the lucky few who got to proof read the book! I thank the writer Roy Huff for it.
And before I get to the Review : SPOILER ALERT!
The story picks off from the last book (The First Pillar (Everville #1)) - With Owen and Fron winning the first battle and Dante going to a vegetative state as an unexpected consequence. Owen's mission now seems to be fighting the evil Them who are determined more than ever before and repairing the breach.
The writer,as promised has answered as to why Owen and his friends were in first place were chosen to restore the balance between good and evil and repair the breach. Owen now clearly knows who his "Friends" and who his "Enemies" are.
I can safely say the writer has matured since his last book.
The story line essentially emphasizes on a very basic fact that our choices dictate the person who we really are - Good or Evil. The protagonists of this book seem to be delivering that message bang on.
The book ends with a magnificent battle as anticipated with Them and armies of Giants, Forn and Owen , where in Owen is forced to take a major decision with a result of a new stronger and meaner enemy being born (I really don't want to give away any more details! Read the book!)
The climax of the book really surprised me. Its a perfectly unexpected twist for a plot that was near predictable till that twist came along.
Roy again has done a fantastic job in describing the City of Worms and the Battle. I was able to visualize the battle perfectly for the description was written passion. Worth being made into a movie (Though with a little more effects and twists to the plot!)
I'd give the Book 4.2 on 5.

This was a very well written novel that is thought provoking and intensely enjoyable. Right from the beginning, Huff is drawing his audience in. He gives just enough background information to jog your memory as to the events of the 1st book in the series without rehashing anything. This is a fluid novel that transitions seamlessly from one section to the next. Fantasy creatures abound. They are all well developed as species and some as individuals. Huff also gives more background information on Everville in this instalment. It really helps to round out your experience of the story. Intrigue and suspense also make an appearance in this magically crafted world. Huff’s vividly visual descriptions draw you in and his intriguing storyline keep you there. He definitely takes the fantasy genre and gives it an exciting twist.

I found myself at a severe disadvantage by not having read the earlier book in the fantasy series. No information is presented in the first quarter, which is as far as I've read, as to who the people are, what has happened and why they are doing what they are doing.
I like the concepts which seem close to Narnia's The Silver Chair - a land of fierce giants, an underground world of tunnels and a small unattractive race. However why are the main characters going there? Once they find themselves beginning to turn into worms - what a ghastly transmogrification, so well imagined for us! why do they keep walking?
In interspersed segments we see a few young people in our world whose relative has died. A man they don't know, comes to state that he is the executor of the estate - I'd be looking for written confirmation and ID, which the relatives don't - but at this point I have no idea how these people connect to the other characters in the city of worms.
Various devices are used to catch up a new reader or a previous reader who has forgotten some of the story. These can include conversation among characters, letters, a diary, a dream, a memory recalled for us, internal dialogue of the main character. Following the first book, The City of Worms brings us in the continuation of the adventures of Owen and his friends in the aftermath of what happened in the previous one. Owen now is faced with Them claiming more power and trying to possess control of The City of Worms in order to win the war of good and evil. Between the two realms, Owen needs to balance and try to discover his way as to how to stop Them from their evil plans. The City of Worms starts off rather slow paced and as we approach the middle to the end, it picks up rather quickly in action and becomes very engaging with a lot happening. Not quite as eventful as the first one but builds up nicely that I'm intrigued to see how the next book will unfold.

I like the story line author Huff has going in these books. he did do in this book what I thought should have been done in the first. Which is give us a look at Them. Not everything, but a glimpse into motivations other than the basic good/evil thing.
That said, the story got weighed down with over-complicated explanations of the layers of his multiverse. One Character, Cleophus, in an advanced stage of dementia is explaining it to the Nine. One character makes an apt observation with the line "This is getting confusing." Couldn't have said it better myself.
Owen and The Keeper's battle with the forces of Them is interesting nevertheless. The ending was too simplistic for the set-up as Owen finds the second Pillar of Truth.

This book was awesome in the way it continued from the previous. Being able to remain with the original characters and see their resolve to set things right. Of course the bad guys have their own twist where the character and choices they make affect how they view what they feel is right. And seeing how even those who made poor choices when they change their thinking and go back home that they are forgiven and restored back to their true selves also shows insight to a greater good with forgiveness and understanding. Our main character Owen is constantly put in situations where the faith of his friends and fellow adventures help to give him the courage to get things done and continue to stay true to himself with honesty and integrity.

I was given an advance copy by the author to review. Although I was leery, as I struggled with the first installment, I dived into the book, readily. There was more background given in this chapter of Owen Sage's story. It also introduced a new race, the Ubaloo, a tiny race of warriors. There is the classic battle of good vs. evil and unexpected twists where one character or another turns traitor. The idea of the worms possessing essence that could change the world was also inventive. I did, however find a lot of repetition and a few minor typos. Nothing that took away from the story, but distracting all the same. All in all it was a much more enjoyable read than the first book.

The narrator has a crisp clear voice and his pronunciation is good. However, he needs a bit more practice in doing a range of voices!
So the story. An epic fantasy where each pillar is a mark of a well rounded, well educated man!
Ahm so what I hear you say? Well see in this fantasy a pillar also marks the point where the main protagonist shows real growth. I really like this. The internal battle is presented in short bursts and never slows down the action. In the end the action and the growth follows the same theme while the plot is action driven.
A good read. Get yourself a copy.

I was asked by the author, Roy Huff, to proofread his book: ' the city of worms'
I have to say that I find the storyline very interesting. The storyline kept flowing, the book was always in evolution, because of that it was never dull. Roy huff gives an incredible detailed view of the world of Everville and the characters in it. It almost felt like the characters in the book were coming to life.
The book is well written and I would recommend it to everyone. So for ‘the city of worms’ a well-deserved 4 star.

Another great story in this Everville saga a wonderful magical adventure and it was a pleasure to flow with the characters threw the story as it unfolded. I would be so delighted to recommend this wonderful book to my friends & my thanks to the author Roy Huff for the privilege and pleasure of reading this wonderful story. This is the second book in the saga and will be reading more of these stories so to all happy reading from wee me. ♥☺

This was my second book from Roy Huff and it's also second book from Everville series.
Must say that I loved the way it was written much more than the way of the first book. This time the main character Owen doesn't know it all and it's more interesting to read.
I think if the third book will be as good as this one, will be worth waiting for.
By the way... Everwille and Multiverse is not saved yet... (or is this a spoiler...)

I really enjoyed this book. It has now become one of the books on my "Recommended Reads" list. After raving about it to my hubbie he's now about to read it too. Not going to give anything away of the plot in my comment. Only that if you are a fan of good, strong fantasy writing you cannot pass this book and will definitely recommend it to friends you know like this genre also. Now I am going to read the rest of Roy Huff's books. I liked his style. Pick it up and read for yourself. :)
