James Patterson's scariest, sexiest stand-alone thriller since The Quickie. Ben isn't like most people. Unable to control his racing thoughts, he's a man consumed by his obsessions: movies, motorcycles, presidential trivia-and Diana Hotchkiss, a beautiful woman Ben knows he can never have.
When Diana is found dead outside her apartment, Ben's infatuation drives him on a hunt to find out what happened to the love of his life.
Ben soon discovers that the woman he pined for was hiding a shocking double life. And now someone is out to stop Ben from uncovering the truth about Diana's illicit affairs.
In his most heart-pumping thriller yet, James Patterson plunges us into the depths of a mind tortured by paranoia and obsession, on an action-packed chase through a world of danger and deceit.

i listened to this Audiobook and I’d say it was an “on the edge of my seat” kind of story. Written in first person the main character Ben kept himself in suspense and always seemed to be looking over his shoulder for some stranger coming to get him . Ben is a wealthy news paper reporter off independent means trying to uncover a much larger conspiracy masked by the murder/ suicide of his girlfriend . Cleaver anecdotes, usually about Presidents, were dispersed though out his narrative . ‘' 6 hours 50 min long
This is the longest it’s ever taken me to read a book by James Patterson. I’m happy I finished it but it wasn’t a book that I needed to know what was going to happen next until the very end.
All of the side thoughts he had about politics I disliked. It kind of would throw me off of the story line. However, I didn’t mind Ben as much towards the end since there wasn’t as much side thoughts as in the beginning!
Great book but you must be able to follow a ADD person way of thinking. He jumps from present to past all the time, and without notice. And weird facts just added for no reason.
I DNF'd this book. The plot is fun and there's immediate action. But the narrator goes on endless tangents about political history and movies that pulls me out of the story. I only made it about 200 pages, which honestly was generous. It reads pretty quickly but... It's honestly hard to stay invested with so much irrelevant information being thrown at you.
I really liked this book..I really don't understand the complaints about the presidential and movie in Ben's thoughts..They really let you inside his mind. The book could be shortened to all action...but what would you have then?? I really like a book where you awe inside the main character's train of thought. what better way to know a character?
As a rule, I love James Patterson but this was my least favorite book ever. Too many movie and presidential references and I felt no connection at all to Ben. It was tedious and hard to get through. I had to force myself to finish it. Not worth the money in my opinion.
This free preview really gets you hooked. There is mystery surrounding a death that needs to be solved right away. Looking forward to reading the rest of Mistress, by James Patterson and David Ellis.
This book has such a quirky main character (Ben) that I almost didn't get caught up in this book...but I'm glad I did! If only for the dialogue going on inside Ben's head at times, that totally cracked me up. A fun read and, once you get into it, really interesting and pretty exciting.
I would usually buy any James Patterson book, but this one had repeated pages several times and missing parts from one page to the next through out the free fifteen chapters...
This is the first time I've ever read anything by James Patterson, enjoying the story line... but he's just to wordy for me. The description of movies and what they did is over kill for my taste.
I actually read the whole book. I found it to be a very interesting read, although much different than I expected it held my attention and was filled with trivia.
I think the book was a quick read, but very poorly written and did not have a very good plot line. I would not recommend unless, you wanted something mindless and quick to read.
All kinds of surprises and a very unusual role in the storyteller. Liking his books more all the time. Did not see the big reveal happen at all. I recommend to any mystery fan.
