Fibromyalgia is a severe musculoskeletal pain and fatigue syndrome that afflicts approximately 3 to 6 million Americans. Fibromyalgia: The Complete Guide from Medical Experts and Patients is a comprehensive guide for patients and families. The book provides authoritative, practical advice and answers to common questions about this condition to help patients and families achieve a greater understanding of all aspects of dealing with fibromyalgia.
This book had a ton of information on Fibromyalgia but nothing that I hadn't read before in every other book. It would be a good book for someone who is a novice with the disease.
Rereading now to take notes and find additional information to deal with my flares.
I first read this book in 2011, having chosen it in order to understand more about a disease I was unfamiliar with (I was a medical writer for a non-profit institute at the time and had had Lyme infection for two years prior; was struggling to find a doctor I could trust to listen to me and handle my symptoms). As I read it, I found myself noticing how many of my symptoms had changed from the initial Lyme infection and now more closely aligned with the list of fibro symptoms. Later that year I went to a rheumatologist (suggested by someone I trusted who had very similar health issues to mine) who diagnosed me with post-Lyme fibromyalgia & neuralgia. So in a way I have to thank this book for spurring me on to seek more answers, more help.
Having a chronic and invisible illness is a weird, frustrating, and lonely thing. I would recommend this book to anyone who's been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and/or their friends, family, partners. It's really a great book and a good resource.
this is more of a learning experience, not a book to read cover to cover. great info, recommend to anyone who wants more information about Fibromyalgia
