REUNITING
Dan Reynolds spent every spare minute he could searching for his three missing daughters, taken from him by his malicious ex-wife years ago. When not searching for his girls, he excelled at his role as second-in-command of the CCU. He loved his team, loved them like family. And when it became necessary to risk his own life to protect one of those teammate he gladly does it, nearly dying in the process.

His first day back on the job he's nearly knocked to the ground by a pretty little whirlwind. The younger woman makes him feel again and brings out all his protective instincts. Shame she'd never be interested in a man like Dan, one who had nothing to give. He gave it all to his search.

Allison Brewster liked the look of the man who helped her to her feet. Yes, he was at least fifteen years older than she was, but he had a kind face. Strong hands. A spark of real intelligence in his eyes. She found him so intriguing...

But Dan had a complicated situation, just as complicated as the recent divorcee's. Should they really get involved with one another?

RECKONING
Someone had hacked the PAVAD's secure maintenance system, trapping his daughter and a pregnant woman in the elevators, and that infuriated Edward Dennis, creator of the PAVAD division.

Ed's fury faded away when he learned the culprit was 11 yr. old Teddy Glendower, son of the new forensics supervisor, Dr. marianna Glendower.

Ed recognized the act for what it was--a boy stuck in the middle of six other brothers and needing attention. Since his daughter's recent marriage, Ed had the time to mentor the young boy. Provided his mother was agreeable...

Ed Dennis terrified Marianna, with his cold brown eyes and commanding presence. And now Teddy's fate was in the man's hands, something Marianna, the survivor of domestic abuse, couldn't help but panic over.

If Teddy didn't cooperate would Marianna lose her position? The position she'd worked hard for? Men who held that kind of power over people couldn't be trusted...

Ed was determined to show the beautiful mother of seven boys that he could be trusted. Determined to show her he would never hurt her...

But someone was trying to do just that. Hurt Marianna and her team, and her safety now rested in Ed's hands. And he could make one vow, and he'd die to keep it if necessary.

No one would hurt Marianna or her children ever again...

Who is Calle Jaye Brookes?

Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).

Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?

In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!

Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.

She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.

She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.

They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.

Second Chances: PAVAD Duet (PAVAD: FBI - Prevention & Analysis of Violent Acts Division #3 and 4) by Calle J. Brookes

This is the third and forth book in the PAVAD Series, I am really enjoying these stories, I love that there was two books in one. REUNITING is Dan's and his family story. The 4th book is RECKONING and Ed the Director of the FBI Pavad Division get his own story.

I have rated Wanting 4 stars, and I will continue to read the rest of this series.

#1: Reuniting 3* 9/23/21 (141) PAVAD #3
St. Louis, Missiouri; Dan Reynolds, Allison 'Ally' Brewster
more romance with some mystery/suspensful elements than RS

#2: Reckoning 3* 9/24/21 (114) PAVAD #4
St. Louis, Missiouri; Marianna Glendower, Edward 'Ed' Dennis

Two romances/couples connected by a common suspense plot, set partially at the same time and including some of the same events.

this is the most idiotic book I've read this year. totally unrealistic and unbelievable it features a presumably elite unit of FBI agents. totally unprofessional and unable to keep boundaries, their personal lives take precedence over their professional. You have Dan, a senior member who has been unable to locate his kids. Supposedly abducted by their mother he is unable to locate them even though one is working for the FBI, one is enrolled in boarding school and the ex was shacked up with his former partner. so much for his investigative abilities. He views every young female as his long lost daughter. He refers to anyone younger as "kiddo" or "kid" and to the hot doctor who just transferred as "lil doc". the rest of the teams have mated and most of the women are ripe with children. Then someone seems to be targetting them and there is a serial killer running around. Even worse someone hacks their computer trapping a pregnant agent in the elevator where she, of course, has the kid. Turns out the perp is one of the recent transfers sons! Hilarious. The fatherly director takes the kid under his wing and his mother under his covers. This is a ridiculous story worsened by too many characters and completely unbelievable storylines. Moreover, it is insulting to law enforcement, especially women who work hard to gain credibility.

Dual novellas...

"Reuniting" (Dan and Ally's story) and "Reckoning" (Ed and Marianna's story) are two enjoyable and engaging novellas which make up the "Second Chances" duet.

With interesting storylines, strong character development, and two ensnaring novellas, "Second Chances" (books 3 and 4 in the series) is a read straight through novel.

Second Chances is books three and four in the PAVAD - FBI - Prevention & Analysis of Violent Acts Division series by Calle J. Brookes and is about how four people have a second chance at love.

Reuniting: Fifteen years ago, Dan Reynolds's ex-wife abducted his three daughters, Gracie, Emma and Kelly. Dan Reynolds never gave up the belief that one day, he would see his daughters again. On his first day back from being shot, Dan Reynolds meets a beautiful woman, caught in the lift with a young woman who went into labour and finally found his eldest daughter, Kelly. The readers of Reuniting will continue to follow Dan Reynolds to discover what happens next.

Reckoning: One morning, someone hacks into the PAVAD mainframe and traps Ed Dennis's daughter and pregnant woman. However, when Ed realizes that the 11-year-old boy of the woman he had feelings for, Dr. Marianna Glendowe, he decides to mentor the boy. When someone started to target Marianna and her family, Ed agreed to step in and protect her and her children. The readers of Reckoning will continue to follow Ed and Marianna to discover what happens.

Calle J. Brookes did a fantastic job combining these two books, ensuring I engaged with both stories. In addition, I like that she shows her readers that it does not matter what your age is; you can always find love again. I like Calle J. Brookes's portrayal of her characters and the way they interact with each other throughout this book. Second Chances is well-written and researched by Calle J. Brookes. I like Calle J. Brookes's description of the settings of Second Chance, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

The readers of Second Chances will learn about the consequences of domestic violence on children. Also, the readers of Second Chances will learn about the role of forensic science in law enforcement investigations.

I recommend this book.

Wonderfully written stories. Ms Brookes is a brand new author for me, but I can say with all certainty that she will be on my list of must buys in the future.

Even the fact that she stops at the bedroom door did not take away any of my enjoyment of the story. In fact it made them more intense and, believe it or not, sexy.
The suspense was believable, the background story like watching an episode of CSI, without any of the confusing jargon, and the romance wonderfully deep and rich.
And my absolutely favorite thing was the fact that life and love does go on after 40!
Desire, love and passion transcend age, and that makes Callie J. Brookes one of a kind writer and an instant top 10 author on my list.

Ms. Brookes, those of us over 40's thank you for finally bringing us stories that we can identify with and enjoy more for that.

Not my fave installment of the series. Didn't really care for the story. While I like Dan Reynolds, his whole story of looking for his kids for 15yrs was kind of lame. HE'S AN FBI AGENT!!! He couldn't find his kids who weren't all that far from him. Like Kelly said, "They weren't hiding". Some FBI Agent he is. Plus the whole story of the instalove with Ally? Uuuggghhh!!! Anyway, a lowly 2.5stars for that story.

The second story about the Directory wasn't much better. Some sociopath gets into his "high security" compound??? LMAO!!! At least the Director was a smarter agent than Dan and he figured out pretty early in the story, which would earn it a 3.5stars. Making the duet an average of 3stars.

OMG is all I can say! I think I am going to have to read this book again and again and again.

Dan's ex-wife took his daughters and ran......years ago. He has not stopped searching for them. A turn of events changes his ENTIRE life in like 12 hours.

Ed Dennis has just come to expect life as it is.

He is head of the PAVAD unit, a father and a grandfather. What more could a person want? How about a sassy mother of boys and lots of boys.

Again, this is like the first couple of books....editing was a little messy but the actual read was fantastic!

Dan and Ally/ Ed and Mari

The FBI lab team from Indianapolis is transferred to St Louis. One of the young ladies is Kelly Reynolds- Dan's oldest missing daughter. So he finally after 15 years of searching, finds his daughters. He also meets Kelly's lab partner Dr Allison Brewster, and there's definitely an attraction. Meanwhile Ed is attracted to Mari, the head of the new transfers.

Thriller of a story with just the right amount of romance

Brookes is a masterful author who can put a story together that hints of steamy sexy romance, yet hints are all you get. And for this series that's enough. We get to know the characters on a deeper level and her character development is masterful. I love the action, the thriller twists, and everything else this PAVID group gets themselves into. one more excellent addition to the PAVID bookshelf.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SUSPENSE DRAMA

As a reader, I have become totally hooked on this series. This author has the ability to create strong, colorful and dynamic characters who help to bring her words to life as she writes her stories. So far, every book I have read is exciting, intense, full of action and thrills.

Meh. Dan deserved better than a short story to resolve his drama, and that he ends up with essentially his daughter's best friend is sort of weird.

Ed's story isn't much better. Brookes just doesn't seem to do short stories very well; things feel rushed, unrealistic even for the genre, and there is just way too much drama.

So Enjoyed

These two stories are so well written about bringing families back together and starting the healing process. Dan & Ed both find love in the new transfers from the Indy forensic team. But Dan gets an added bonus, he gets his girls he has been looking for 15 years back with him.

Mature romance

It's rare to find a good romance featuring a more mature couple, this has two. Both are filled with intrigue on the FBI angle and slow, soft heat on the romance side with fascinating characters. The stories are interconnected so to have them together as a duet is a plus.

Second Chances by Calle J Brookes has both books Reuniting & Reckoning in it from this awesome series.

Reuniting is Dan’s story and it’s one that you will want to read in one sitting. It’s that good.

Reckoning is Ed’s story and also does not disappoint.
Both stories are set at the same time so having together was really great.
I highly recommend reading both.

Another winner!

Great storyline! It is also refreshing to meet characters from another book and finding out the bits and pieces of their stories after their books were finished. I will miss the characters in this series and the heart and soul Calle J. Brookes puts into each story.

Another Winner

Being a woman of a certain age, and also now a widow from a very long marriage, it is always refreshing to read stories of second chance loves. I loved that both of the couples in these two stories were parents of large families and were still looking for adult fulfillment.

I absolutely love this series and the fact that this book includes two books in it was awesome. I almost feel bad for these teams that so many bad things have happened to them, only because I get so sucked into this series. Calle is an awesome writer that brings you right into her books. Highly recommend this book and the series as a whole.

Two really good mature romances

This book was divided into two stories, both of which were excellent mature romances. The stories include romance, mystery, action. Excellent quick read. I finished both in one morning because I didn’t want to put the book down. Too invested in what happened next, and the outcome. Read the book. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

High on suspense low on romance

Both stories were equally enjoyable although low on the romance. Nevertheless it made for an interesting story when it was finally revealed as to who the perpetrator was and why he did what he did. Required some editing but a easy read.

Great book

This book gives second chances and resolves some ongoing situations already presented in the series. Dan and Ed finally get the families and women that are perfect for them along with Brookes' signature suspense and action. I highly reccomend.

Good stories

2 for 1. Love that these characters were in their 40s and 50s. Wish the editing was better and the endings are just too abrupt — not satisfying at all.
