They thought it would be easy. Four boys from a nearby boarding school planned on attacking and killing a family - just for the fun of it. But they hadn't prepared themselves for the terror of what they would meet inside of the house in shape of a little girl with a very special gift.
HUMPTY, DUMPTY is a horror novella from Willow Rose, author of the International Bestselling horror-series starring the Danish reporter Rebekka Franck. It is not for the faint at heart.

3.5 stars. So I was taken aback when the story ended around a hundred pages. I noticed that on Goodreads it mentioned an excerpt from another story being included, but I didn’t assume there was so much of a gap between Humpty Dumpty’s finale and everything else included. So that was a big letdown, especially because I loved the story. Ella is a wonderful, complex character, who could easily carry a full length book by herself. An abusive family, rare medical issues, socially isolated, and some otherworldly abilities. Sky is the limit for her. But, again, with everything happening so quickly and ending somewhat abruptly, I felt like the full potential wasn’t quite reached here. And that’s a shame because I really, really wanted to dive deep into this experience. So much left unaddressed and unexplored, I was left wanting so much more.
Another success story for Willow Rose. Humpty Dumpty may be short, may not be sweet, but it sure had my blood pumping. Graphic and brutal, Karma comes to those who did wrong.
Four teen boys attack a family. One of the family members is a girl who has the misfortune of being shaped as an egg. Due to her looks, she is bullied and abused. However, unknown to others, she possesses special powers.
The family suffers a graphic and brutal attack with rape, torture, and murder. The boys have no reason to attack, other than for their enjoyment. With all the sick and twisted things in this novella, the mistreatment of the egg-shaped girl was the most depressing.
This is a quick read, but hard to get into. Also, for me, the ending was a big let down.
This was a quick read as Ella's sad condition unfortunately made her an easy target for cruelty, even from her family. A home invasion by nearby boarding students put her in protective mode of her younger brother whom she truly loved. Violent, gory scenes described as the invaders wanted Ella to suffer. Ending was different as it was one I had not expected
OMFG! I had to stop and ask myself: "Was this REALLY written by Willow Rose?"!!
This is one SHOCKING, SICK AND DISTURBING short novella (i listened to the audio version) of sexual child abuse and bullying that is most definitely NOT for eveyone! This made the horror movie "Hereditary" look so tame!!
Humpty Dumpty by Willow Rose Humpty Dumpty by Willow Rose is a disturbing horror story. The young girl Ella is egg shaped & subject to much ridicule, even from her own family. I found this sad. In spite of how haunting the story is, I gave it almost five stars.
"If they hadn't moved into this godforsaken house she would still have her daughter, & she wouldn't have to be so tired all the time from lying awake all night listening to the sounds of the winds & the house sighing like it was talking to them, like it was warning them."
The four wealthy, privileged young men were appalling in their desires & actions. So was Louise & Ella's father, Frederik.
I would like to thank Amazon for a complimentary promotion copy of this book. This did not influence my opinion for this review.
This novella left me creeped out and more than a little sad for the main character Ella. What a crappy life! Again this story centres around Karrebaeksminde, like the author's other novellas, and does have a tie in with the first Rebekka Franck novel "One, Two ..... He Is Coming For You". Chilling with a paranormal bent it does seem to confirm a theme with the short stories. What is it with the unfeeling, uncaring mothers slapping little kids in the face that Willow Rose seems to have repeated in her short stories? I don't know, but as a mother it made my stomach turn. At least in this tale the asshats get their comeuppance. Quite a good little read but not the author's best.
It wasn't scary, it wasn't horrifying, it just made no sense.
Humpty Dumpty is about an unfortunate tween named Ella who is shaped like an egg who lives with her cruel mother, pedophile father, beautiful older sister and innocent baby brother. There's a marauding gang of drug fueled teen rapists straight out of A Clockwork Orange who break into Ella's haunted home and precede to torture, rape and murder.
And, somehow, Ella has some telekinetic powers she gained from a ghost girl who used to live in the creepy house and wields her Carrie-like> powers to obliterate them?
I'm not quite sure how this works into the story but its a stretch to call this novella a story since there's no exposition, no background, no well-crafted characters and apparently, nothing but rapists and pedophiles who live in this godforsaken town.
"Humpty Dumpty" by Willow Rose is based on a Danish fairy tale about a girl who grew as fat and round as an egg and was there ridiculed by everyone as "Humpty Dumpty". This is creepy tale with some intriguing moments with the mysterius girl in the mirror but lakes enough depth into the her background and those that lived in the house before the Lucas family. The ending was pretty good and left you wondering what would happen to the boy that survived the horror in that house.
Humpty Dumpty by Willow Rose has a subtitle: Horror Stories from Denmark Book 4. I was disappointed by what I felt to be deceptive advertising. I expected to find more than one story in Book 4. I now assume that I will get one story in each of the other books of this series. The Amazon page for this book notes the length of this work is 138 pages. Only 35% of it is the short story. Then there are advertising links for other books by the author. What then follows is an excerpt from Itsy Bitsy Spider by Willow Rose. It is lengthier and more interesting than the short story but ends in a cliffhanger.
The short story Humpty Dumpty is not for the faint of heart. Many will consider the language crude. Four friends are inducting one of their members into a gang. The initiation ceremony requires that the new inductee kill someone while the other three observe. No one could decide on a suitable victim so the group decides to kill an entire family. Peter, Michael, Ole and the recruit, Ivan would invade the home of the Lucas family and kill them all.
The Lucas family had Mom and Dad, older sister Louise, young sister Ella and brother Jacob. Her parents considered Ella fat and disgusting. They also were not happy with Jacob who communicated in a way known only to Ella and himself. Ella had reciprocal feelings for her family, showing love only to Jacob. Only Jacob did not call Ella Humpty Dumpty. The rest of her family could not stand Ella’s fat, oval body. Ella escaped much of her family’s attention by hiding in an attic room, a room that held a mirror possessing some magic powers. The mirror was willing to share powers with Ella.
The home invasion takes place. Horrible things happen but not to everyone. The short story has depictions of horror and torture that are not for everyone. I would be interested to know if the story appears in Danish and if so, the original publication dates. The excerpt following the story impressed me enough to buy the complete novel which I knew would not disappoint as I have read other Rose novels. I remain irritated by what I consider deceptive advertising. Although the Amazon page mentioned there was an excerpt from another novel, I did not expect the excerpt to be 65% of the work. The Amazon page promised an excerpt from a novel other than … Spider, further contributing to my irritation.
Although the writing of Willow Rose impresses me, this review is about this download which I didn’t like for the reasons above. I gave this two Amazon stars for what I considered a deceptive presentation.
The perfect horror story with a spooky old house and a horrific storm going on during one night of hell. There are four wealthy teenage boys, that are in boarding school, that are looking for their latest thrill. They have formed a club and in order to be an accepted member, they must complete their first kill. They have a fascination with the character, from the Freddy Krueger series, and even have a replicate of the glove he wore in the show. These boys will dress up in the Freddy Krueger costumes before they go out seeking their latest thrill. They pick a family that they want to terrorize and kill, and unfortunately, they picked the Lucas family. The Lucas family consisted of a father, mother, 2 daughters, and 1 baby son. What the family was not expecting was to be attacked by the four young boys in a Helter Skelter fashion. The youngest daughter, and the baby boy, survive the attack. The youngest daughter, Ella, aka Humpty Dumpty, will get her revenge on the four boys in a devastating manner.
The Humpty Dumpty of the title is an overweight young girl who has mysterious powers and a strange back story, in Queen of Scream, Willow Rose's take on a Danish folk tale used to scare children into behaving themselves. A cross between Snow White, Carrie and The Amityville Horror, the story could become trivialised or sensationalised - especially as the MC investigating the slightly cold case, (of what happened to four boys who attempted to terrorise the Lucas family) is a journalist.
If you like adult themes and horror stories, Humpty Dumpty is a tale you should add to your fantasy horror bookshelves. Another winner for Ms Rose!
In this novella, four boys from a nearby boarding school have plans to kill a family. But what they don't know when they enter the home is the terror they will be facing. Danish reporter Rebecca Franck is the main character in this series. Also, there are a few excerpts from the first book in the series. Willow Rose is the best storyteller of scary, horror stories. She's my number one favorite author. There is always a thrill on every page she writes!
I have come to like and appreciate Willow Rose books, they're great stories to read between other novels because I don't have to do much thinking, they're very easy, simple reads. This was sooooooo hard to get through though. This needs a serious edit. It had an interesting story in Ella and that's what kept me reading, but man, there was so much rape I skipped a lot. I cannot handle that stuff. It's not scary to me, jyst sickening. So, reader beware.
creepy story that was pretty disturbing. not my fave probably because of some of the harsh content, but it was not a waste of time to read either. there were certain parts that were more delved into than others and i felt there could have been a little more given explanation about a few things, but it was still a decent short story.
This is a short story revolving around the nursery rhyme of Humpty Dumpty. This is the only characteristic that this story has with the nursery rhyme. The story is twisted, dark, evil, a little sick, and completely entertaining. The characters go through several believable ranges of emotions which help the story tremendously, especially the ending
Decided to give this story a chance and wow it's incredible. True horror has hints if Stephen Kings Carrie. Won't spoil it but love the ending. Will have to give this authors other books a try.
Interesting novella about an unusually shaped little girl, a group of boys with a different kind of club, and a meeting of the two that results in a huge storm. Definitely recommend this book to all Willow Rose fans and anyone else who likes a bit of mystery and horror.
Totaling different story telling, a thriller, a horror story. A interesting style of writing... I enjoyed reading this book and must now go on to read her others. Very different. A Steven King style.
I recommend this book and author to all horror and thriller fans alike. Willow Rose is as good a writer as Stephen King in my opinion, her characters capture your attention and your heart . Give Humpty Dumpty a read and see what you've been missing.
Just when I think that I have read every scary thing and can no longer be shocked, Willow Rose writes another book. The Queen of Scream reigns supreme! She ranks up there with Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, Paul Saul and Joe Hill.
This book was okay. Fast reading but not much to it. Interesting character is Ella and how protective she is of her Brother which is a welcome touch to the story.
This little girl was quite scary to mess with! Those boys got what was coming too them and I just loved how the book ended! Loved this book and I recommend to people that like scary stories 👿
A very short novella, a mix between creepy and gore; although there are paranormal elements to it, they're not exploited to their fullest, and the general atmosphere of the book was more gore-ish violence than paranormal.
I'm not sure if this story was originally in another language then translated to English, or if it's just poor writing, but it was hard to get through and not something I'll be rereading.
Once again Willow Rose wrote another good story. Wasn't crazy about the father or the four boys. Ella was the subject of abuse and bulled. Could not put the book down.
