An okay read for me. Took me a long time to finish this one bcs I got bored and distracted. Not the book’s fault tho bcs I’ve been in a very long reading slump.
This is The Little Mermaid inspired which made me immediately pick up the book. I liked how the author incorporated the fairy tale but also made it her own. There’s a bit of a gender role reversal which was cool to read.
Elsebet & Danil were great characters. They felt like soulmates. They understood each other because they had similar weaknesses. I liked that this is what made them grow closer and form a relationship. Their connection felt believable even given the short timeframe. I also thought they had great chemistry & banter. There were a lot of romantic moments too!
I especially enjoyed the plot. The conflict of the kidnapping scheme & all the issues that came with it were interesting and kept me turning the pages. I had to know what was going to happen next! I also liked how everything was resolved.
The writing is engaging but could’ve used another round of editing for minor spelling & grammar errors.
If you’re a fan of Little Mermaid inspired romances with slow burn, forbidden love and an exciting, fast-paced plot you need to read this!
I did like it, but the last couple chapters weren't that great.
The heroine was great throughout most of the story, however I could not stand how she acted after hero decided to not turn her over to his brother.
He left her on his ship sleeping and was going to have her taken back to her father. She woke up and made his second in command bring her back so she could help him (how exactly would she do that? She had zero plan and was just going to charge in there and do something because she's a princess). He saved himself and discovered she came back and told her they were going back to her father, she threw a fit because she wanted to go back to her secluded island.
She was mad he just decided what they were doing without discussing it with her. Then he goes to her to have a discussion and she doesn't even know what she wants or how to discuss things with him.
I feel she should have been ecstatic that she wasn't going to be forced to marry his brother and that hero was alive and with her. Her being mad at him for days made zero sense to me.
The hero was great, I liked that his heart was so cold and she slowly was getting through to him. He did kidnap her and almost married her off to his brother, however I don't think he ever would have let it happen, even if she had maintained being mad at him. P.

The characters were really fleshed out well. The storyline was an interesting premice but it moved really slowly. I think more action in the story was needed. It did have a happy ending, though.
