From the author of The Legend of the Bloodstone and Return of the Pale Feather comes the next story in the Time Walkers series...
Makedewa and Benjamin each had reasons to leave the Norse village more than a year ago. The Powhatan warrior Makedewa hoped that time would heal the damaged heart of the woman he loved, and then they would both be ready to embark on a future together. The Norseman Benjamin prayed that by leaving his family his sins might be forgiven. And perhaps, with time, he could forget the only woman he ever loved – the wife of his Chieftain, the wife of his only brother.
When a Seer named Jora and a powerful Time Walker named Agnarr unexpectedly interrupt their journey, suddenly Makedewa and Benjamin must face the past they had run from.
With the lives of those they love in their keeping, the two men must face the darkness and conquer their demons. Can Makedewa and Benjamin protect the ancient magic and sacred bloodlines, or are the Time Walkers destined to be just another forgotten footnote in history?
E.B. Brown enjoys researching history and genealogy and uses her findings to cultivate new ideas for her writing. She lives New Jersey and is a proud graduate of Drexel University. Her debut novel, The Legend of the Bloodstone, was a Quarterfinalist in the 2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. An excerpt from another Time Walkers novel, A Tale of Oak and Mistletoe, was a finalist in the 2013 RWA/NYC We Need a Hero Contest. E.B. loves mudding in her Jeep Wrangler and likes to cause all kinds of havoc the rest of the time. She resides in New Jersey.
Every element of this story draws me in as if I am being sucked in by quicksand. The character development is wonderful, so that you cannot stop yourself from becoming involved with each and every one of them. I suppose each reader will become attracted to their own favorites, but I can tell you that mine is Makadewa. He is a tough brave, but he has his vulnerabilities. He is emotional, and sympathetic to those around him. But he will kill, if necessary. I really empathize with him, and I love him.
As you read through, you will try to second guess where the various strands of the story are going. I did, anyway. I was already calling the author a murderess on her blog, because I was convinced that she was going to kill off some of my friends: characters whom she had built in my mind. Mainly, I was wrong, although ONE of my friends did die.
It is worth mentioning that the sensual and erotic element is much more arousing than the previous two books in the series. In fact, there was one particular scene which was such a turn on that I had to take a break from reading to cool off. Seriously!
As you can already tell, this book will really captivate you. I had it well down my to-read list, but I had to get into it as soon as I had finished Return of the Pale Feather. Now I have reached the end of the third in the Time Walkers series, I cannot wait for the next one. There is a taster included, and it makes me want number four even more. The trouble is, as I write this review, A Tale of Oak and Mistletoe is yet to be published.
The Time Walkers Series is tremendous. I thoroughly recommend it to all my friends: historical fiction, time travel, North America, native Americans, Norse exploration, even erotica. This series has it all.
Besides Rebecca and Makedewa finally getting their happy ending I was glad to see Ben finally get over his obsession with Maggie. It was REALLY disturbing these past 3 stories 🤷🏾♀️
Of Vice and Virtue', the third book in E.B. Brown's Time Walkers saga, has the author bringing her supporting cast to the forefront for a quick side adventure that expands the rich world she has created. The story focuses around Benjamin and his exodus to an English settlement where he finds a new threat to the Time Walkers. Readers are also enticed with new and renewed romances that Ms. Brown finely tunes to pluck the heart strings of her readers in both erotic and heart-breaking moments as the supporting cast becomes more fully realized.
The character of Benjamin becomes a fan favorite as the flawed and tragic character trying to find his way and do what's right to protect the Blooded MacMhaolian. I found myself really enjoying how well the character of Benjamin is evolving and look forward to seeing where his current and dangerous path takes him.
The author also takes pride in authentically recreating the traditions of early Native American tribes and Norse clans. The details in one Nordic ceremony vividly bring those traditions to life in such a way that the reader will feel as if he is actually attending the ceremony.
Ms. Brown's writing flows at a good pace making ` Of Vice and Virtue' a quick easy read for her fans. She has the skill to pull her readers into the story and make them really feel for her characters and the adventures they share.
The thing I like most about each of Time Walker books is that by the time you are finished you feel like you have been to this fascinating and magical world; a feeling that leaves you yearning to return while you wait anxiously for the next book.
`Of Vice and Virtue' is a fine edition to the series and rounds out a supporting cast that I think will have key roles in the saga's finale.
This novella is an essential read if you have read the first two books in the Time Walkers series. I would highly recommend you read the series in order. So much of what is reveled in this book is going to surprise and make sense out of questions you may have from the previous books.
It starts out with Benjamin and Makedewa returning home after being gone for almost a year. Benjamin is taken prisoner and in an attempt to try and discover what and why Agnarr (his captor) is so interested in Time Walkers he elects to stay with Agnarr instead of being rescued. Jora, being a seer, was the one to alert Agnarr to the fact that Benjamin is a Time Walker. Jora needs Benjamin's help to escape plans Agnarr has for her life. Benjamin wants to use Jora as a means to find out more about Agnarr's plans for the Time Walkers. Neither one trust the other.
Meanwhile Makedewa returns to the village to give news of the events and to reunite with Rebecca. There are revelations about Makedewa that are guaranteed to surprise you. Their story unfolds and it's not a smooth path.
We learn so much more about the Gothi Chieftains, what it means to be a blooded MacMhaolian, and the magic involved.
Brown is so good a giving insight into the lives of the Powhatan people of the period. In this story as well as in the last book she also includes fascinating customs of the Norse that have been tweaked to fit the story line.
A must read for the series. Adult content so be aware.
I love this series more with every book. E.B. has such good insight of the Native American and Norse ways of living and integrating them into her books. Maggie and Winn take a backseat in this book and it focuses on Benjamin and Makedewa returning after their year away from camp. Benjamin is captured for an unknown future that brings in 2 new characters, Jora and Agnarr. Makedewa returns to Rebecca in hopes of finally winning her heart.
I’ll admit Benjamin’s story really drew me in and really wanted to see where the story with Jora and Agnarr would go. Benjamin always seems to scrape by without finding any real happiness. We are teased with the prospect of happiness for him, but will it happen, or is it just another betrayal? I’m will be interested to see where Makedewa and Rebecca’s relationship goes and if Rebecca will truly soften him.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I am sad that will be the last book since I’ve enjoyed this series so much. I wish this book would have been a full novel rather than a novella. I was really starting to get pulled in when it ended.
Of Vice and Virtue is book three of the Time Walker series.
I very much enjoyed this installment of the story. I like how we got into the heads of more characters on a more equal basis, hearing more from Makedewa, Benjamin, Rebecca, and new arrival Jora.
I like the direction the story is moving in, and the growth of the characters. Makedewa is coming to see there is more to life than his hatred, and Benjamin is struggling to come to grips with the 'sins' of his mistakes. Rebecca has blossomed into a strong, wise young woman who is learning about life's pleasures as well as its pain and plain survival. Jora...she is a complicated character, and I look forward to learning more about her motives and history. Can Benjamin really trust her?
E.B. Brown continues to spin a spectacular tale, set in this intriguing world of the Time Walkers. Given the teaser at the end for the next installment, I can't wait to read "A Tale of Oak and Mistletoe."
This novella was a wonderful bridge to the final book in the series. It was fun to learn more about several of my favorite characters in the Time Walkers series and spend some more time in the world that E. B. Brown has created. There were a few editing issues that pulled me out of the story, but the characters and descriptive power of the writer quickly pulled me back in. Looking forward to the last book in the series!!
A Really good book but much too short! I'm getting really tired of publishers taking one book and making it into two so they can make more money. I would like to read the full book not half and I would have paid the full price to do so. Publishers stop cutting up books to make more money. I would really like to have a HEA at the end and not have to wait.
I enjoyed this series. It's one of those that you can easily picture being made into a tv- movie because it is filled with romance, struggles and obligation. But what it lacked is the full exploration of what a time walker is. Yeah, ok so by definition it is someone who can travel through time and it showed about 6 of the main characters doing that. But that was it. It didn't delve further into what makes Maggie's blood so special because she was protected from what she is. Even she didn't really know her full potential and we never get to see it at all. No miracle. No "Wow" moment for Maggie taking control of her implied blood powers. So if you take away the time travel factor from the story, take away this special blood they all swear to protect, and just read through the book, you'll still like the story of a strong-headed woman trying to adjust to a different era.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Benjamin and Makedwa reach Elisabeth City, an English colony. Soon after, they part ways. Benjamin chooses to go with a seer woman who tricked him to know the new path life will bring. Makedwa returns to his people to see his brother, the Chief, regarding the possibly dangerous path Benjamin has gotten into—he also wishes to know if Rebecca will accept his proposal. Another notification makes a mixup that nearly tears the storyline apart.
This 3rd book once again takes us in a new direction, a direction that is filled with pleasant and unpleasant changes.
On to book 4 and will be sorrowful when it ends as this has been a journey with characters that have touched me emotionally as their tales have unfolded over the course of the series.
I really enjoyed reading book 3, Of Vice and Virtue. I still want to smack Benjamin upside his head, but I'll cut him some slack. He went through a lot already. Now Arr-Jack ass is a whole nother kettle of fish. If anyone deserves to be struck by lightening !!! starting book 4 right this minute!!!
This one was great until the end of the novel just came out of nowhere. It just seemed like the author said well that is the end and moved on to the next one. It just seemed that nothing was resolved or wrapped up and left the reader hanging.
I want to start by saying that it is hard to review a book after putting it down for a couple of months at a time. I would pick it up again and read a chapter then put it down again for a while.
This installment does not include much of Maggie and Winn. They are background characters. I was involved and emotionally tied to Rebecca and Makedewa and their romance. For them, this is just a standard romance - meaning, neither one of them time traveled. However, I was disappointed that Makedewa felt he needed to leave for a while to allow Rebecca to heal. Rebecca was left lost and without answers. She assumed he did not love her. Maybe this stuff is historically accurate, I have no idea. Maybe Native warriors did such things.
The book also focuses on Ben, whom I just couldn't warm up to. I was not that interested in his plight. What plight? I was confused a lot. He was kidnapped, then he works with the kidnappers but he has contempt for them. Yet he stays with them... I admit to maybe being not interested enough to absorb some of the pertinent information.
Ben is trying to protect his brother, Winn and his family. There is a scene in the end where he says goodbye to his brother forever. Was this to protect the new baby? I think so.
Anyway, I am completely aware of my ambiguous review. I guess i just liked the book, while actually reading it, but there was not enough to make me pick it up more often.
In comparison to the firstbook in the series, this isn't as good, not as complete as the first. As a continuation of the series, this is a nice addition. I feel that it couldn't possibly stand on its own so if you wonder if you should read the other two first. Yes, you should read the other books in order before reading this book. I still don't like Benjamin so that took some of the fun out of the story for me. There are some interesting developments that have me interested in where the author will take the next installment. Overall the story felt like it was the second part of the second book in the series. I also come away feeling like the 4th book will be the next part of the second book also. I wish I had waited to buy until I could get them all in a bundle so I wouldn't have this disjointed impression.
I'm a sucker for a good love story and E.B. Brown does a great job with making you fall in love with the characters! The story picks up close to where book two leaves off, but it's a bit of a tease by really just touching the surface of new story lines. Good read but it was a bit short, felt like it was missing something. Still worth the read!
E B Brown has done it agan. She has written a book that not only pulls you in but the characters are so full of life you feel as though you are right there with them. No longer able to bear the pain that weights on their hearts Benjamin leaves with Makedewa. This is a life altering journey for both. Once again the author has done her research and weaved a tale of interesting facts that will tug at your heart strings.
I really enjoyed seeing Rebecca and Makedewa's story. Dont you just love seeing a big bad warrior soften to a little blonde?! You never know when love will find you! As for Benjamin..Im not sure what he's up too but i hope things work out for him in the next book of the series. Im afraid of what Jora is going to do to him! I am so glad I found this series!
I really enjoyed this last installment of the Time Walker series! GREAT Job, E.B Brown and I look forward to more romantic, insightful adventures from you. LOVED ALL the books in this series.
