In Book One, The Kill, the Italian Mafia go after the wrong man.
In Book Two, The Blade, the Gambino Family do it again.
In Book Three, The Scythe, the Russian Mafia have different plans. They want to take over Toronto, a territory so large it was previously thought to be too big for one family. But Darwin Kostas and his wife, Rosina, stand in the way. As a peace offering to the Italians and the Chinese, the Russians intend to execute Darwin. First, they have to catch him, but using his wife as bait is not enough.
While the Russians attempt to organize a meeting of rival families where Darwin will be terminated, something the Italians tried twice and failed, Darwin realizes he is on his own. With the FBI not able to help and his wife in the hands of the Mafia, Darwin decides the only way to win this war is to kill them all.
Darwin fights the Russians in the biggest Mafia war Toronto has ever seen in The Scythe, Book Three of the Mafia Trilogy, the final installment.

I didn't read the first two books but really enjoyed the characters and fast pace of this third book. I average 7 to 9 days sometimes to read a book but I enjoyed this so much I read it in day! Great read!!
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
The mobs haven’t learned their lesson. They’ve tried many times to kill Darwin Kostas. But now, the Russian Mafia wants to take over Toronto, but in order to do so they must appease the Italian and Chinese mobs by offering them Darwin’s head on a platter. They start it by kidnapping his wife, Rosina. What a mistake that turns out to be. Now, the only Darwin can get the mob off his back is to kill them all. The Scythe, the third and final book in the Mafia Trilogy by Jonas Saul, has Darwin pitted against his most ruthless foe yet, the Russian mob, for whom murder is like a walk in the park. He also has to try and stay one step ahead of the law, often corrupt and in the mob’s pockets. The language is a bit slangy and cliché-ridden, but the action scenes make it easy to overlook this. The author knows the terrain and describes it well. Some of the action scenes seem incredible, but the essence of good fiction is the author’s ability to make a reader suspend disbelief for a brief period. Saul does that, and does it well.
What a great end to the trilogy. He finally get his man, his wife and a safe place to live. Many die after the Blade, Darwin fights to his near death to save his life even if it is the last thing he does, if it means they die together. Because he does not know who to trust, he has been betrayed by so many, he takes matters into his own hands only to be set up by the final meetings. The meetings where their intention is to kill Darwin and Rosina and bury them in "double coffins" never to be found. Only thing is it backfires and the FBI, Canadian Govt and other agencies know the whereabout of the final meeting. The meeting of mass destruction. Darwin takes on the description of the Scythe who is known for torture in the worst ways. Great reads, never boring, filled with action, suspense, intrigue, and true love. The whole series is worth reading.
This is the sequel to "The Blade", which I really enjoyed. Both books are well worth reading if you enjoy action stories involving twisted situations such as the heroes in this story - Darwin and Rosina - go through.
Our friend Darwin Kostas seems to be invincible, no matter what the enemy throws at him. But this being fiction, I guess it can be possible if you really open your mind to such extremes as described in this book.
I like to see ordinary people triumph over the bad guys, so this series really had me reading with great interest. You stay on the edge of your seat and wish to read on, which is what I look forward to in a thriller.
Thank you Jonas Saul for doing a great job at writing such stories!
I have read a couple of Jonas Saul's books, and I am never disappointed upon finishing. I had read the Blade, the second in this series, and decided to try the Scythe. In a nutshell, the story line takes a lot of twists and turns, and the violence is always over the top. This whole series would make a great action film, and I would go see it if it were ever made. This was a fun book to read, an entertaining story that I continued over a couple of days while riding the train, or waiting in lines. If you like action-packed stories that also have aspects of a psychological thriller, this whole trilogy may be for you.
I've read and enjoyed other books by Jonas Saul. This one was a real disappointment. Here we had one man taking on the russian mafia to save his kidnapped wife. There is constant action in the Die Hard tradition. Lots of testosterone. Lots of blood and guts. None of it believable. The author seems to enjoy finding new ways to have his hero tortured as the book progresses and his escapes are equally sadistic. There was really nothing at all believable about this book. The hero survives and prevails when any mortal human being would be a quivering piece of raw meat. I think i'll be more picky about the Jonas Saul books i pick up from now on.
Good, fast reading, suspense. This is book 3 of the Mafia Trilogy and is another action packed adventure for Darwin Kostas and his wife Rosina. The Russian mafia is trying to take over Toronto and offer Darwin's death as a peace offering to the Italians and Chinese. They use Rosina as bait to lure Darwin into their trap. A story of true love and determination and beating the odds. i rate this a 4.8
I became a Jonas Saul fan from the very first of his crime novels that I read. This one is not my favorite but it is very high on my list. Crime families from different countries fighting each other for power while trying to stay ahead of the police and now fighting a vigilante gone wild when they take his wife. All this adds up to an exciting and entertaining novel.
The Mafia from three countries are out to kill Darwin but the Russian mafia wanted him worse so they abducted his wife to get to him. But who will win? Darwin would kill anyone to save his wife and live a life of happily ever after. This certainly was a page turner and only wish I read book one and two first.
The book has a good story, interesting plot and is fast paced. The main character is well developed. One area that has a room for improvement is the dialogs. Sometimes the first person asks a question and the second person gives a long answer and the dialog ends.
Too violent for my taste but the main characters were likable enough that I am pleased to get to the conclusion of the trilogy. I enjoy reading this author and will look for other title with a lot less torture.
Great ending. Very sad to see so many lives lost. They lost their lives protecting the one's that suffered so much from something that started out as an accident when killing a bad guy. The love Darwin had for his wife, untouchable!
I enjoyed reading this adventurous story. It moves quickly into the meat of the action. The protagonist is a man of strength and determination, fighting evil men. Using their own techniques against them.
Somewhat plausible certainly a good read and very entertaining. Started reading in the early evening and couldn't put it down until finishing it at 4 am.
