OK... I have to say that while I didn't like the abrupt ending of the series as a whole, this one-shot is pretty cute. The artwork here was done by another artist and this actually benefited the story as a whole. The original series had decent, if not rough, artwork for the most part, but this new artwork really helped bring out the characters more.
Artwork aside, you can still tell that someone else had a helping hand in this because the depictions of many of the students are different. Shunka has a slightly different personality at times and she's far more pleasant of a character. She isn't solely the one-off gag that she was in the main series, although she does often fall back on that. This brings a lot of much needed explanation as to why our main hero would forget about Aiko and turn to Shunka.
Oh, and story-wise this takes place right after Aiko took off, if you're wondering.
