‘Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person’
Layla Summers has run from her past for the last six years, and life is currently peaceful and controlled. That is until Hunter, a hot and hard Dom who frequents The Black Panther where Layla works as an erotic dancer, takes an interest in her. After turning down his offer of a hot night between the sheets, Layla brushes away her intensifying lust for Hunter and continues with her safe but lacklustre life. That is until Layla and Hunter’s paths cross in the most awkward of places and Layla is stunned by the different man Hunter is in the club to the man he is away from the club. He is rude, arrogant and so bloody cocky that Layla has visions of whipping the man with his own expensive tie. But it soon becomes increasingly difficult to keep their relationship professional and they are soon embroiled in a hot, steamy and dominant liaison.
Lucas Hunt has wanted Layla since he first saw her spin the pole in The Black Panther and after her rejection of a night of hot hard sex he is stunned when the sexy little Redhead turns up in his daily routine. The temptation to drag her into his dominant sexual desires becomes harder and harder but he soon finds out just how perfect they are for each other. But Layla comes with dangerous baggage and lots of it, and Lucas is soon fighting against things that could kill their relationship and against people that could basically just kill them both. At the end of the day, is their relationship worth the risk? Or is Lucas willing to bite the bullet and endanger his life for the sexy little erotic dancer that has stormed and exploded into his life?
This book contains explicit sex scenes, violence and strong language…oh, and one hot alpha male.
I started this book absolutely loving it. I loved the idea of this on the run for her life heroine working for this Alpha dominant hero. However things quickly went downhill. Here's what I see went wrong: 1) The heroine just happens to "know" everyone in the book. And it's all sexually pretty much, or brought on that way. Everyone's just soooo comfortable with having f'd her. It's like "Oh hey Layla darling! Looking good? How's the vag doing? Great? Oh that's just dandy sweetheart! I'll make my appt for next week! Make sure to get it nice and juicy for me!" Uh...yeah..... 2) The hero is not so macho. There are scenes where when he's alone or with someone other than the heroine, he's very dominant and in charge. With the heroine it's like he's afraid to step on her toes. 3) The WHOLE thing with the heroine on the run from her ex "Diablo". It all boils down to her being a "professional submissive." So every time he get's within voice distance of her all he has to do is say some command and the b--ch falls to her knees and waits for him to take her. 4) I thought the heroine, even though all her problems tell you the author wants you to feel for her, was very selfish with the way she was with the hero and she just started getting on my nerves. She basically creates her own problems with this Diablo and "submit" "bend" WTF ever and then needs to be saved. Then she gets upset when she's saved because she doesn't want anyone else getting hurt. 5) She's a victim of a violent sex crime however this doesn't change her views on sex, being naked, bondage, dominance. It only makes her not want to get her heart broken again. Umm.....okay....I can beli-no, no I can't believe that. It's ridiculous. This book became so ridiculous that I was literally was forcing myself to finish....and then I just couldn't. I couldn't even finish this book. I'm sorry, I tried to like it, but too many things either didn't add up, didn't make sense or were just plain ol stupid. It was very frustrating because I really wanted to like this book!
I somehow I missed that this was book 5 in the series. Whops. It did read just fine as stand alone however.
This one certainly had the authors signature OTT crazy trama-drama. (Which despite my better judgement I seem to love).
I actually liked both the heroine and hero this time! This is a first for me for her books, and really made the whole books so much more enjoyable. That said, the nature of the portrayal of their BDSM relationship left me WtFing. Now, I can't speak from experience, but I've rad more than my fair share of books with D/s relationships, and I found it beyond bizarre that when Layla heard a certain phrase she turned into basically a zombie who couldn't help but obey orders. It sounded a whole lot more like brainwashing than BDSM. There were a few other issues with Layla and all the men in her life (as well as some really dumb decisions on her part) that bugged me as well.
Overall, however, I think this is my favorite by this author so far. I'll be going back and reading the first four in those series. Ava and Mason certainly sound like they have an interesting backstory.
Layla is a friend of Mason, Ava, Nate... She meets Mason before he was with Ava. Diablo, Layla’s old Dom, invited him to participate in a threesome with him and Layla. Diablo let other men fuck Layla but when Mason realized that Layla was not a sub consenting, he beat Diablo and freed Layla. Now, more than 6 years later, she works at the club Black Panther as a pole dancer, and that’s where she meets Lucas Hunt. Lucas is a Dom well known with the pros as well as enjoyed by the pros. The word that went around was that he knew how to please a girl, could make her scream in absolute ecstasy, but he was also known for his tendency to dominate and command. Both have noticed each other but Layla doesn’t want another Dom in her life after what happened with Diablo. “I always noticed her, every single time I came to the Panther, every single minute I was here.”
But Diablo is obsessed with her and starts to harass her to get her back. When Lucas finds out that Layla is the perfect sub, he almost falls in love instantly. “Submit.” She instantly dropped to her knees, lowered her head and held her arms before her, her wrists crossed and ready for restraint. “I declare myself a slave, and I submit myself to you as my master” She recited expertly. She immediately tipped her face down to the floor and her hands dropped and rested against her thighs with her palms facing outwards. Holy-Fucking-Hell . . . Red was a sub, and a fucking experienced one if her instantaneous surrender was anything to go.”
To complicate matters further Layla starts working as a PA of Lucas in NSC industries, and in the end, they end up having mind blowing sex. “ I want you Red, more than I have ever wanted anything in my whole life. I want to govern you, I want to dictate you but more than that, I want to pleasure you, please you and I want to watch your beautiful face as I make you quiver and scream in ecstasy.”“You want to sub me?”“Yes, but I want more than that, Red. I want all of you, every single inch of you, and not just your body. I want your mind and your spirit. I even want your fucking soul to belong to me”
“Good evening, Miss Summers. I do believe you’re late for an appointment”“Late for what appointment?”“An appointment with my mouth, Miss Summers”“We can’t do this Lucas. Think about what you’re doing”“I’m not gonna have sex with you, Red. I’m gonna make love to you with my mouth. I’m gonna make you feel every damn inch of my tongue as I idolise and savour you.”
They both fall in love quickly, but Lucas, a bit reluctant to relationships bc his old love cheated on him, will have to overcome that Layla is a married woman and she still have feelings for Diablo, who will do everything to get her back. “Don’t question it Red, just accept it. Accepting it will make it easier, make it real and then you might start believing me when I tell you that I’m falling in love with you.”I knew I had fell for Lucas with everything I was, through to my very soul and this was why I had to break both our hearts to keep him alive.
“Ryan will always be more important than you will ever be Lucas, always, so you need to stop with the jealousy because I will never give him up for you!” “Ryan?” he scoffed and pulled in a heavy breath, “And who the fuck is Ryan?” he snarled. I shook my head sadly at his possessive behaviour. “My husband”
“ Diablo. I know to everyone else, my compassion with a man who had hunted me and haunted me for many years, may seem incomprehensible. But to me, I had genuinely loved him before something inside him had twisted cruelly, completely morphing his once pleasant and gentle character into a monster. Jealousy. Such a simple word, but a highly potent emotion. His love for me had changed him into a jealous, controlling beast that couldn’t handle the thought of me loving anyone other than him; anybody but him touching me and it had eventually and finally eaten away at him.”
And as bonus Kade appears again to receive another beating of Mason. Kade is still in love with Ava as the first day and Mason continues to react very well. Compared to Ava and Mason’s story this one is very vanilla.
I can't go all gushy and five starry on this book but I can give it a solid well earned 4 stars. This author does have cool penmanship in most places and she brings her stories to life with a gritty prose and vernacular that would curl your innocent toes, it's punchy, evocative, smouldering and downright steamy in places.
I still find the heroines in D.H's book are the subject of an overload of mysery and it happened again in the book but, (and I am glad there is a but) Red's character is not meek and weighted down by her past or falters when more bad things happen in connection with her and this redeems Red in my eyes in this book and I connected with her better than I did with Ava in the Heart of Stone trilogy. She's not just feisty, she's understanding, loveable, also capable, she's an 'all rounder' and I feel she is definitely 3D.
Lucas oozed the alpha strut and dominant personality and I really enjoyed the interactions between them. Their relationship was a hand grenade with a loose pin and you wondered when the explosion was going to happen.
I liked this book more that I did the Heart of Stone trilogy but I guess that could be because this started and finished in one book and didn't get dragged out. So all in all I am glad I gave this author another chance. I haven't read Angel yet but I guess I can give that a shot too now because this book has certainly changed my view point on D.H. Sidebottom to a better place in my head.
After reading the reviews and the blurb I couldn't wait to read this book. It started out so well I was happy and hooked but then way before half way I noticed my attention wandering, so I took a break and tried again, and again the book just wasn't holding me. I read the reviews again and honestly wondered what on earth was wrong with me, I tried again, same thing, it didn't help that I found it too far fetched to be believable but way before half way I was bored. My head was spinning from Lucas and Layla's on, off, on, I'll just have sex with someone else, on, I'll get her out of my system by having sex with someone, on...no it's off...no on.....talk about mood swings and don't get me started on stupid decisions, it would be difficult deciding who gets the award for most stupid decisions made in one book. I'm disappointed that I didn't like this book more but there's no point writing a review if I'm not going to be honest. So in being honest this book was for me, too long, too unbelievable and way too hot and cold...
Well, well…first you make me cry in Angel and then you make me LMAO in The Hunt for Summer!!! Well done D.H. Sidebottom! Everyone returned and poor Lucas, he had no idea that everyone knew Layla! Lucas is sexy, dominating and smart, not so tough but that’s what Mason is for ;) Layla has a haunting past, sexy looks and a feisty month. Lucas and Layla want nothing more than to protect each other from her past and that’s when their friends step in to offer their assistants, no, more like take charge!
I did not enjoy this book. It could have been good, but I think it just got caught up in so many sub-plots that at times, it really seemed to just drag on. Hard to connect the dots on all the characters. I haven't read the previous books in the series, so perhaps that is why it seemed so disjointed. Also, for two people in love and in a BDSM relationship where trust and communication are number one, they continually failed. Over and over.

The paragraph formatting was very distracting. I am not sure if this was my Kindle or it was presented in this manner.
Well what can I say ... After reading The heart of stone trilogy and falling hopelessly for Mason Fox I devoured Angel and eagerly awaited this release and I was not disappointed I was fabulous. Loved Lucas ( who wouldn't ) and loved layla two brilliant worked characters . I also loved having Mason,Ava and co so involved in the story (Loved Katie and Georgie made my laugh out loud ) excellent work D H sidebottom cannot wait for the next instalment :-)
Loved layla and lucus's story Was up and down at times, always something happening. And I love the fact you still get snippets of Ava and Mason and some of the other characters. And I know I've only just heard of Logan... I need his and Sara's story toooo.... Please...
Definitely a 5 star read from me really enjoying the series and connecting books 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This book was recommended to me and...well...It's definitely something I would read according to the synopsis. It was good...just... good. I really wanted to enjoy it more but...3.5 **** from me. Here's why...
First, the synopsis:
"‘Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person’

At the end of the day, is their relationship worth the risk? Or is Lucas willing to bite the bullet and endanger his life for the sexy little erotic dancer that has stormed and exploded into his life?
Sounds good, right? Great even!! BUT and herein lies the problem...I felt like this story was a mash-up of a bunch of other really great books I've already read.
We have the very dominant Hunter, whose actually Lucas Hunt. Hunter is his Dom name. He sees Layla at a club he frequents...she's a pole-dancer. Next, she needs more money (who doesn't?) and Lucas needs a temp P.A. Super...she ends up being his temp. Lucas is a bear! to work for, an ass really! Once they fall into a relationship, it's a bit confusing. The D/s part of their relationship exists only in the bedroom really. Not that it didn't suit them as characters, but it was just sort of...odd that Lucas was a complete caveman in the bedroom and then almost overly emotional otherwise. I know he's supposed to be this domineering man but he really puts his heart on his sleeve a little too much to be believable. Layla seemed to have a connection with everyone who was also connected to Lucas which was epically strange (however...I did NOT realize this was book 5 of a series and have not read the others prior). This may be my whole problem people...although I believe it states the book does ok on its own two feet as a standalone. It has a beginning, middle and end and doesn't seem to have any lingering issues from a prior book. The way the characters are connected-maybe a totally different issue.
The things I did enjoy were the actual flow of the story. It wasn't too fast or slow. Also, who doesn't enjoy steamy sex scenes? This author can write some HOT stuff my book people!! If your fan of HEA's, this book has one! Like I said earlier, a series but can be a standalone.
I know it seems really tilted in my review above...the good VS bad. I did LIKE the book, just didn't LOVE it.
This book is amazing ,,, totally freaking A-MAZE-ING people !!! I've read a few books by DH Sidebottom and each one has blown my mind they are awesome ,,, I really don't know where she gets this stuff from ,,, but all I can say is keep doing what your doing Hun coz it works
You'll read one book and think wow ,,, can't get better surely ,,, then you'll read the next and be gobsmacked coz guess what ,,, somehow it got better ,,, and with each book it just gets better ,,,, this book is exactly the same ,,, it just got better!!!! I don't even know how that is possible but it is!!
This story is about Lucas (Hunter) and Layla (Red, Willow, Kayla) ,,, yes they both have alternative names ,,, you'll understand when you start to read it ;) ,,, Lucas is guarded and been hurt in the past !!! He has a specific sexual appetite ,,, he's not a 'settle down' type of guy so he fills his bed and time with different women ,,,, Layla has had a tough time in the past so she ran ,,,, she doesn't want that relationship again it's hurt her and she escaped it she can't go back ,,, but she finds herself in a club pole dancing ,,, she's happy and getting on with life ,,,, but she spots him ,,,,and he has noticed her too ,,, but surely they can't go there ,,, both wanting something different
These two are forced together through other means ,,,, work ,,,, and after one HOT night they struggle to fight against the pull between them ,,,, there are many factors they find their way into the middle ,,, threatening to tear them apart ,,, Lucas isn't the strongest or toughest of men but he would be willing to fight for Red!! ,,, Layla doesn't want her old life but knowing the consequences shed go back to it without battering her eyelids ,,, but an Layla and Lucas survive the devastation that is thrown into their pathway? Has the connection that they have built strong enough to get them through this? ,,,,, can Layla survive another day???
We have all of our old friends back from NSC and Heart of Stone back ,,, oh yes and they are a big part of this book ,,,, ALL the old favourites ;)
Intense, exciting, gripping, thrilling ,,,,,, bloody damn well awesome!!!!!
I loved this book!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't praise this author enough. Just when I don't think her books can get any better they always do! This story was so raw. Poor Layla is living a life on the run for the past 6 years. Terrified of her past and who's out there looking for her. Working in a strip club and keeping a low profile is her life. Well that is Until she meets Hunter one night while she's working. He offer's her a one nighter which she turns down. She may work in a strip joint but she doesn't hook up for money. Striping and dancing is one thing. Turning tricks is another.
But Hunter can't get Layla out of his head. So when she stroll's into his office one day as his new secretery he's floored! He's been doing nothing but thinking of her and then BOOM there she is. Hunter says what he wants without thinking. He's so rude and arrogant. But she still wants him BAD.
Hunter doesn't realize what she's running from though. But even when he finds out he can't let her go. He's on to deep since the first time he laid eyes on her. And Layla feel's the same. Although she will do anything to protect the people she loves as you will see in this. Another GREAT thing about this book is that Mason,Ava and the gang are in it :D
It was refreshing to read from another characters perspective in this book, I adore Ava and Mason but it was a great change.
Red Aka Lalya Summers works as a pole dancer where Liam 'Hunter' frequently goes, she's best friends with Mason and adores Ava. Liam is the ultimate player and dominant man and is lusted after by all. Layla has a past, a very troubled and disturbing one filled with many degrees of love and confusion. Liam also has a past that has left him reluctant to get too close to anyone and made him become the ultimate Dom.
These two connect at once when Layla most needs it, but many twists and turns, secrets and lies mean they have a far from easy path to the future as their pasts come back to haunt them along with some super hot, sizzling sex scenes which were a mixture of Submission and lust!!... This book asks Can you accept that your partner loves someone who hurt them beyond reason? Can you let go of the love of your life to embrace your future even if it scares you to death? Do you dare to trust someone again?
O.M.F.G!!!!! the books just get better and better and BETTER!!!!! WOW!!!! from Angel,Heart of stones and Room 103 i LUV EM ALL!!!! D H Sidebottom delivers each and evert time and never ever dissapoints, Lucas and Red are such an amazing couple that you just gotta luv em and for once we get a hot sexy alpha male who isnt a total twat!! lol. I seriousley cannot wait for more from D H cos she is fukin EPIC!!! her style is perfect and just my kinda style you get drama, fiesty females, hot sexy alpha males who constantley know how to pleasure thier woman and to top it off theres always plenty of action that leaves me shouting at my kindle!!! lol oh n also lots of laughs too. With D H you get everything you want in a story and always want more.... Luv it :-)))))
I am a huge Sidebottom fan and for that reason alone couldn't wait to read this book. I was very surprised by some of the very critical reviews especially since many of them were written without completing the book. There were times during the book that were frustrating but reviewing this book as a whole from beginning to end I am very comfortable giving this book 4 stars. This was a quick read and there was not much character development but what we learn about each character gives enough to feel for their angst, pain and joy! As expected from Sidebottom the sex was steamy and raw and Hunter was to die for! Layla was beautiful and flawed but loved to love! I look forward to reading more NSC Industries books to delve further into these interesting characters.
In this book we meet Layla aka Red. Red works as a dancer and also just happens to be Masons best friend. We follow Red as she meets Lucas Hunt and she tries to fight her attraction to the big bad dom. I found this book a lot less intense then D.H.Sidebottoms other books but still just as good. I seemed to swing between loving Hunter in the bedroom to not been too sure out of the bedroom. Although saying that, when Red's in danger Hunt comes to help.....whether she wants the help or not. All the other NSC/Heart of stone characters turn up so we get a small fix of them too. Overall another great book, now just got to wait for Kades story now.
I wanted to like Layla a lot. And sometimes I did, but a lot of the time I didn't. She seemed just stupid to me. It was dangerous for her and she kept taking unnecessary risks. Putting more people in danger because of it. How many people was she going to be in love with anyway? This just seemed like I love you's came way too fast and then they were just stupid about it. Jumping quickly to conclusions and hurting each other and themselves because of it. I wanted to love Lucas too, but every time he opened his mouth he said something hurtful in his attempts to protect himself. I did like him more than her though.
Another gripping instalment from the NSC series.....
Layla is a headstrong character intent on protecting those loved ones around her from her demonic ex who knows no bounds when it comes to pursuing to bring her back to him.
Another unputdownable read from DH Sidebottom ....
The characters once again have been well developed through the NSC & Heart of Stone series and marry together perfectly with plotlines overlapping and meshing seamlessly.
Absolutely perfect recount of the quadrangle relationship between Layla, Lucas, Diablo and Ry.
Will there be a HEA ? With more twists than the swiss alps have ladies you will have to read it to find out !!
Wow !! What a amazing read loved it Layla summers was a amazing pole dancer but had a past then she met the charismatic Lucas sexy hot and amazing in bed and he had a thing for the sexy red headed pole dancer then she turn up at his office as the new temp whoop whoop what happens in this book may make u go owww but its a great read and loved that the other characters are brought in and not forgotten love DH wicked author can't wait for more x
What a great intense sexy dramatic painful dangerous romantic touching story and not necessarily in that order. lucas a strong male but sometimes needs to wake up and layla such a strong sensitive woman who has had an unfortunate life. They are suited and need each other. lots of powerful stuff... diabolo. . but sad as well. funny moments..good friends who care about each other. A very good strong story and love the ending x
When you feel as though if your life was a season it would be winter, constantly cold and bitter, you can't help but hold on to the hope that one day your life will be Summer full of warmth and happiness...
He's the dominant Hunter, she's his willowy prey but with such a terrible history behind her can the hunter snare his prey before it's too late ?? Absolutely loved this book and it was nice to see Mason, Ava and the gang back. XXXX
First time I read a book about a real Dom/Submissive relationship. It is quite different but interesting. I liked the development and surprises we get and specially the characters. However, after readying about Mason, I felt that Lucas wasn t so manly. Dominant that s for sure but during the problematic situation, he wasn t such an action macho man... A bit disappointed in this.
Red and Lucas' s story has been a roller coaster throughout, what this poor girl had to go through was so awful!! You laugh and cry at times, I loved having Mason and Ava back too, especially when Kade made his appearance!! I love D H Sidebottom' s writing she keeps you gripped throughout, definitely recommended..
The lengths Red had to go to, to free herself from Diablo, he wasn't letting her go and didn't care who he took out along the way! Lucas struggled with his feelings for Red, but they got there in the end, loved the epilogue and the way these characters interact is fab, great writing highly recommended
Why do all of these girls have so much crap in their lives?? Geez and none of them go to counseling??? I felt really bad for Lucas throughout this whole book! Obviously Red was messed up if she felt like she loved Diablo!!! I totally understand how Lucas was hurt by it! That's just messed up!! Who is the next book gonna be about?? Hmmm
Really enjoyed this. At first I wasn't a fan of why Mason knew Willow, why does it always come down to that?! I did really enough seeing more of Mason and Ava though. Lucas seemed a bit of a wuss to me, maybe because I compared him to Mason and Nate a bit who have obviously killed before
D. H. Sidebottom did it again. Lucas & Red Relationship was very dramatic to me . I just loved how she brought back some of my favorite characters from the Heart of Stone series. I was lmao sometime throughout the book.
