The beginning of the book was promising, but I would be lying if I told I wasn't let down. Although the book is about asking questions, it does not shy from warning you time and again that asking too many of them will bring trouble (thanks to author's personal experiences doing just that in his early career). The conclusion even went on to remind the readers that Socrates was killed for asking too many questions. Anyway, so the key point here is not just asking questions but asking better questions and here in lies my problem with the book. After a good 25%, the book goes on to explain 15 different types and structures of a question which I am sure nobody has the time to recollect when asking questions spontaneously. I felt all this technical dissection of a question was not practically helpful in asking better questions. Also I thought the book could have been better if it didn't come off as exclusively for corporate managers. After all, questions are essential tools even for creative professionals and personal productivity in general.
If I had to describe the book in one word I would say "IMPRACTICAL".

فنون الادارة - و التي من ضمنها فن السؤال - ، و الفكاهة ، و القصص الممتع و المفيد
فالكاتب اسلوبه دائما يعتمد على الاستدلال بالقصة
اهم النقط المستفادة :
-لا تسأل السؤال الا اذا اردت جواب و اذا اردت سماع اجابة فعليك ان تعرف قبلها ما الذي ستفعله بها
- لا تتيقن من اجابة المتلقي لسؤالك و لكن توقع عدة اجابات و خاصة المفاجئة
- اطرح اسئلة افضل تحصل على اجابات افضل
عيوب الكتاب :
- الكتاب يفتقر لعنصر التركيز على عنصر تعلم فن السؤال فالكاتب يجول بك في العديد من فنون الادارة مما يكسب الكتاب تنوع و يمنع الملل لكن في نفس الوقت لا تجد المردود العلمي المراد
- الكتاب غير منظم على الاطلاق فتجد ان بعض العناصر تتكرر و بعض العناصر غير مرتبطة ببعضها و كذلك بعض الفصول
- الافتقار الى المحتوى العلمي فالكتاب يدور حول تجارب الكاتب الشخصية او تجارب اصدقاءه او بعض المشاهير الذين لم يورد اسمائهم
الخلاصة : لا انصح الباحثين عن المحتوى العلمي الدسم بقراءة هذا الكتاب و هذا ما قاله الكاتب في ثنايا كلامه فقد رشح كتب اخرى لقرائتها بعد هذا الكتاب لمن اراد التعمق و لكن انصح من اراد قراءة ممتعة و جولة سريعة في عالم الاعمال الحرة بقراءة هذا الكتاب كبداية

كتاب جيد أهم ملاحظة انه الترجمة جيدة. الكتاب يتناول السؤال كفن على كل مدير أن يتقنه وليس كما يوحي العنوان من حيث طرح الموضوع بشكل عام ومع ذلك يمكن تطويع هذه المهارات في حياتنا اليومية والت يتعد الإدارة جزء أساسي فيها.

يقسم الكاتب الاسئلة الي ثلاثة فئات عامة:
1- اسئلة تطرح لان الاجابة عليها مهمة. يكون السؤال من اجل الحصول علي معلومة مهمة مثلا.
2- اسئلة تطرح لان السؤال نفسه مهم. السؤال طريقة لإثارة النقاش حول موضوع او الدفع بالتفكير في طرق واساليب لشحذ الافكار والمهارات التحليلية
3- اسئلة تطرح لان عملية الطرح نفسها مهمة. وهي اسلوب المرشدين والمعلمين والمستشارون للدفع بعملية التفكير
المقدمة - هل طرح الاسئلة هو مهارة ادارية؟؟
1/ هل هناك مجموعة ثابتة من الاسئلة؟ يعتمد الكاتب علي ان الاسئلة هي احد الادوات الادارية التي يحتاجها المديرون فهي مثل المطرقة للنجار والسماعة للطبيب وغيرها من الادوات التي يحتاج اليها الحرفيين في اعمالهم.
الاسئلة الاساسية: (ماذا؟ اين؟ متي؟ لماذا؟ من؟ كيف؟ كم؟ ماذا لو؟)
1-الغرض من تحسين جودة الاسئلة المطروحة هو تحسين جودة الادارة علي جميع المستويات.
القواعد العشرة لتحسين جودة الاسئلة: كن مباشرا، تواصل بالعين، استخدام لغة سهلة؛ وجمل بسيطة؛ وكن مختصرا؛ التركيز؛ تحديد الغرض من السؤال؛ ملائمة الموقف والشخص؛ ان يعكس السؤال نية السائل؛ تحديد كيفية الاستفادة من الاجابة.
2-طرح الاسئلة هو مهارة الادارة الفعالة: عناصر عملية طرح الاسئلة الثمانية: ما الذي نعرفه؟ وما الذي لا نعرفه؟ وما هدفنا؟ وما نحتاج معرفته؟ وكيف سنعرفه؟ ما النتائج المتوقعة من استخدام هذه الاجابات؟
3- ما هي جودة مهاراتك في طرح الاسئلة؟ ادت الحاجة المعقدة لنظام العمل المعاصر الي تغيير نموذج العمل السابق المتعلق بالادارة حيث كانت المعرفة والخبرة والمهارة هي المطلوبات ولكن تعقد الادوات والاعمال جعلت الحاجة لموظفين متخصصين قل ان يستطيع المدراء الالمام بالتفاصيل الخاصة بالعمل (من الناحية الفنية) لذا كانت حاجة المدراء لمعرفة كيفية طرح الاسئلة. _ الحاجة الي لطرح اسئلة جيدة للحصول علي اجابات افضل.

4- طرح عدد كبير من الاسئلة: طرح الاسئلة ممكن ان يكون له تأثير مباشر علي اداء الشركات من خلال حل المشكلات وتقليل شكاوي العملاء وتحسين جودة المنتج. تكمن اهمية الاسئلة انها قد تؤدي الي افعال ثم الي مزيد من الاسئلة والدفع بالأشخاص للتفكير، ولكنها قد تجعلهم يشعرون بالقلق ووضعهم تحت الضغط. لذا من الضروري تقدير السياق والشخص المتلقي للأسئلة.

Asking the right questions in a way that doesn't offend or annoy is an art. It helps with unbeknown problems, which no one is aware of or give much thought. Asking too many question is also not good.

It would be better if there were more examples or stories in the book.

Like non-fiction books, the key is applying. Reading is good info to know but applying what you read is turning knowledge into power.

i read some review about this book before i really read it and found some reviews that told about this book is promising and let you down after. thats true for me. i found it really interesting at first, but i lied if im not let down because this book told you many things for don't do somethings and it made me confused.

if you want to read it, you can read it. this book still good to read, but for me is so so.

.أحببت جدا الجزئية الأخيرة بالكتاب لاقتراحها اسماء محاوريين جيدين مع ذكر نوعية الأسئلة التي يجيدونها

Terry Fadem depicts different types of questions and explains the uses of each, how to ask them to achieve what we want and several tips about each of them.
The book is filled with examples and cases.

I will surely not remember most of the information, but I'll try to apply some of the main ideas from now on. Just for that it was worth the reading.

some parts good , some bad

This is a book about how to ask questions. The author does a good job of explaining types of questions, however the long chapter on skills was confusing and stretched too long. Some of the examples did not make sense

Interesting and I learned a few things but it is only about business questions

This book focuses on surviving the evil corporate world, a world, imho, that should not even exist if the land of the free still did. But, America has fallen to these evil corporations so it looks like we all better find ways to survive it. Although, it seems like asking the right questions, "Should corps be allowed to put profit before human life as they do?", would probably get you killed as dead as Socrates.

Also, the author describes how most if not all of his colleagues hated him because of his way of asking questions. People hate him. The evil corporations love him for it. Hmmmm

I didn't finish reading this book because I felt that it had nothing that was new to me, and I have not read any other books of the same genre. The anecdotes from the author's personal experience were interesting, but I didn't learn anything from them. In general, this book just gave me a bad impression of managers since the ones mentioned in this book all messed up because they didn't ask the right questions but then went on to get rewarded.

the translated book is not well translated at all. as for the origonal book it is very usefull as i consider reading it over sometimes again. it consist of an origonal and proffisional way of looking at questions and it is really an art to be done properly. how good questions can give u a boost in ur career or end it all. the idea can be adapted and applied in real life somehow. i advice the book in english

I downloaded this as a free ebook recommended by Spec in the comments section of a Free Friday selection from Barnes and Noble. I read it because I believe in the value of better questions to promote learning and cooperative efforts in groups.
I don't have a problem with the questions suggested by Fadem. My ranking of only two stars is with the format which I believe could be better with some editing so there might be less repetition.
I recommend it as a reference book.

A thorough guide for managers, whose job is to supervise people. Since no one can expect a doctor to work without a stethoscope, a dentist without a pick, a painter without a brush, managers can't work without their toolkit, which is questions. I agree with the author that the quality of answers depend upon the quality of the questions as well as the way these are asked. Good read for managers!
