(Note: This book is an independent title and can be read separately from the rest of the series.)
For as long as Claudia Bell could remember, she knew that there was something very wrong with our world. There were too many inconsistencies – the facts just didn’t add up. As a young law graduate, she saw her new job at Cornelius Pharmaceuticals not just as an opportunity to develop her career, but also as a means to find the truth. Driven by a need to discover more about the shadowy, undying Immortelle and the truth about her own family, she crosses the Tasman and takes a step into the unknown.
What she finds is not what she expected. Thrown into a world of danger and intrigue, she discovers that the very people she is trying to unmask have their own designs on her. The fact that she knows about their existence at all puts her life in danger, but could she live with herself if she left the truth hidden forever?
But then, she meets Luke Cavenelli, the youngest member of the immortal Cabal. Although almost a century old, he is kind, debonair, sensual and devastatingly handsome. When she pushes him hard enough, he breaks and gives her the information she craves… and much more.
The Immortelle are not united. They are fractured, driven by internal politics that result in bloody, brutal wars that threaten humanity as a whole. She is just one more piece in the puzzle, one small part of a battle that spans thousands of years. The Cabal want her because her bloodline holds the key to power. She is their secret, their creation, and they would rather kill her than let her fall into the hands of one of the other clans.
With Luke’s aid, she must struggle to escape with her life and flee halfway across the world, seeking safety in the most unlikely place of all – in the arms of their enemies.
There – and only there – will Claudia finally have the opportunity to find out the truth about her own origins, and about who her father really is.
Victoria L. Dreyer (preferred name Vic) was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. She grew up in a home that valued literacy above all else, and she learned her love of books during childhood.
At the age of 14, she penned her first novel in the form of the original draft of the yet-to-be-published “The Gyrath’s Gate Chronicles”, which is in the process of being adapted to graphic novel format. Since then, she has written and illustrated five graphic novels, dozens of short stories, and goodness knows how many discarded manuscripts.
Shortly after high school, she co-founded the graphic novel publisher Blue Scar Productions with the aid of Alexandra “Blue” Saunders. Between the two of them, they recruited sixteen volunteers united by their love of comic books. Although Blue Scar Productions ceased to operate as a commercial entity in November 2011, Ms Dreyer has since gone on to pen numerous novels under her own name, and her pen name Abigail Hawk. Her preferred genres are science fiction, post-apocalyptic survival and romance - and sometimes all three at once.
Due to a medical condition that is making it difficult for her to work her day job, Ms Dreyer is currently fundraising to self-publish her first speculative fiction novel, a four part post-apoc survival epic called "The Survivors". Have you ever wished that you had the ability to make this world a better place? If you did, would you take it?
The book, 'The Immortality Clause,' by Abigail Hawk, is a story filled with so many possibilities. It offers us a refreshing take on the typical stories that involve immortality. Being Immortelle. This story unfolded before me and left me panting for more, that I can hardly wait to read the next book in this series!
You will not find any detailed spoilers in this Review~it needs to be experienced by each reader. But, I do have to say that there is really two stories playing side by side~one, is the dilemmas that come along with living for eternity and the other, is a deep love story, that offers us hope. Ladies, you are going to love the hero! He's hot and sexy, strong and yet vulnerable too. He's a tortured soul and every woman's dream man. It is in us Ladies, to always try to fix them~we just can not help it!! Ah...then we have our heroine. What a breath of fresh air! Abigail Hawk, did a fantastic job creating her...she is beautiful, strong and confident, rich~but with a heart of gold and views life in a simpler way. Does the love last? Or do the "powers at be" destroy them? You will have to read the book to find out!
One of the characters that I adore, love, and gobbled up was Piotr! He's adorable and I want him!! His attitude and bantering~Oh my goodness! Read the book folks, I promise you will NOT be disappointed! The book flows effortlessly, it's easy to read and you will find yourself cheering and smiling by the end. For what reason? You will have to read the book. I can see the endless possibilities that this series can go in...which way will Abigail Hawk take us next, I wonder?
I was honored and humbled to have gotten the chance to Review this book. Thank you Abigail, for this opportunity to experience 'The Immortality Clause.' I loved the book and am jumping right into the next one!! You did an amazing job describing the Swiss Alps~I have been there and it is one of my most favorite places. This was extremely well written and it shows that you have put forth great effort, pride, and time in creating it. I'm so very humbled and honored. Thank you.
Claudia is smart, sexy, and driven. She takes the job at Cornelius Pharmaceuticals not only because it's a good step in her career, but because she thinks it may help her learn more about her mysterious father.
It does, but not in the way she expected; nor did she expect to fall for co-worker and member of the Cabal Luke Cavenelli. His job was to seduce Claudia, but he finds himself wanting not only to seduce her, but to love and protect her, even if it puts his own life in danger.
The author does an excellent job of world building by giving us the world we know - then flipping it. We're introduced to the rules of the new world of The Immortelles a little at a time, rather than page after page of exposition. Claudia and Luke are both interesting, likeable characters; their chemistry is smokin' hot, and the sex scenes are very well written.
My only quibble was at the end. After a very satisfying climax, there was an epilogue, but rather than a quick taste of what happens to Claudia and Luke next, it dragged. Pages and pages TELLING, with very little dialogue, though I loved the dialogue where it appeared. It didn't move with the same snappy pace as the rest of the book, nor of the snippets from the next books in the Immortelle universe, which have me completely eager to read them.
It was my pleasure and privilege to proof an advance copy of The Immortality Clause.
I very much enjoyed this story. It is very well written, with good descriptions, spunky dialog, and plenty of steamy sex. Claudia is a peach; feisty and smart. Luke is a true gentleman with a fire in his heart for his woman.
The first half of the book is paced as a page turner. I was rooting for Claudia and Luke to escape the clutches of the Cabal, and wondering what on earth they would encounter with their mysterious 'enemies'.
The second half of the book
That being said, the characters were well developed, I cared about what happened to them. The settings were firmly established in descriptions. The Immortality Clause was a nice way to spend a couple days.
This was my very first experience with a beta read! It has so fun for me to be a part of this process. I read the entire book in one day... I hardly put it down! :)
I really enjoyed Ms. Hawk's different take on the Immortals. It is unlike anything I have read before. It opens up a whole world of story possibilities for the series and she will never have to reuse characters.
The Immortality Clause was fast-paced, the descriptions were great and the interactions between Claudia and Luke were enjoyable, both in and out of bed. ;)
I look forward to reading the others in the series!
*received a free copy for an honest review* I absolutely loved this story! I wish it was longer but I am glad that it didn't feel super short. The characters where fun and sexy. I was along for the ride from the very beginning. I was intrigued by their different clans and look forward to reading more about them.
I really liked this book I hadn't read a story by this author but my god she is good how she writes this story it makes you want to finish I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen between claudia and luke, Luke is an immortal and claudia is mortal but her mom is an immortal she doesn't tell claudia about her parentage but she guess about her mom. Claudia has had the best education can speak different languages fluently she has loads if money so she has the best of everything cloths shoes and bags, claudia wants to find out who her father is. When she lands this top she gets to no luke who is the son of her manager at work there is something about luke he's got secrets and so has claudia with both there lives in danger can they find love and happiness. it's a great read with a happy ever after if you like mystery and lots of loving then this book is for you. I had this book free for a honest review and I think it's was the best book I've read I thoroughly enjoyed it page after page it just got better.
What a different take on a paranormal romance and immortality. The blurb sounded very interesting so I just had to give it a try and I was not disappointed. I liked that I was given an option to read either a clean or erotic edition. I chose the clean version and was not disappointed. I was expecting vampires but that is not what I got. This is the story of Claudia a tough young lawyer ho has been searching for 10 years to try and uncover "something". She is convinced that immortals exist and she might have ties to them so to further her search and to meet her mother's demands, Claudia takes a job in New Zealand and meets Luke there. And the fun really begins. I was hooked half way through the first chapter. A really good story that I could read a clean edition of. Well worth reading and I plan on putting the others in the series on my reading pile!
I had the honor of beta reading for this and I had to actually take my editing hat off because I enjoyed the story so much. The world of the Immortelle has so many possibilities and The Immortality Clause just scratches the surface. It gives us glimpses of the implications of such a world, but just enough to want more.
I realize that at the center of this story was the love story, and I like that this particular Universe wasn't overshadowed by it, but enhanced. The hero is indeed sexy, but the part I found compelling about him was that he wasn't quite jaded yet. He was still naive to his world, though he had an important part. You could feel him clawing for his humanity still, and he ultimately found that with the heroine.
I also like that my time wasn't wasted on too many pages of flowery romance. There was a point that I was concerned, when their relationship seemed at its plateau, but then we read of the heroine's transformation and the possibilities that brought forth. We are treated to another facet of this other world that I really can't wait to read more about.
Another thing that I really enjoyed, is nudging in a bit of history, ancient and modern. I really hope this is a constancy in this series because it makes it so much richer to me. This is my favorite genre and anymore, you have to be more and more creative, but you have to hook the reader on the incredulous, and the author does this flawlessly.
And I found myself Googling Auckland and did you know? It's not just Hobbits in New Zealand. I did not know that. :P
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
First off the premise of the book sounded good which is why I requested a copy to read but if I had just seen the cover somewhere I never would have given it a second look. I just wouldn't have been able to take it seriously. I understand that a new cover is in the works so that shouldn't have an effect on people in the future.
The book was well written and the heroine was sharp and witty which made me like her right away. She seemed to cloak herself in her lawyer persona at first and then began to shed it as she began to develop a connection with others. I enjoyed the fact that this book was complete even though there are more books that take place in their world. We got to see their happy ending, which still reflected the fact that anything was possible in the future rather than an abrupt...The End. I felt like there was a reasonable amount of closure as, rather than tidily wrap everything up with a bow, the author indicated where progress had been made and where there was the potential for progress in the future.
The world itself was pretty awesome. I liked how different groups had different gifts. It allowed us to see a full range of cool talents without making someone omnipotent. The gifts also explained away some of the lusty things we want to read but don't quite jibe with reality which is very, very nice. The sexual heat was very much present but the scenes were not crude in nature.
Great book and I'm really glad I got the opportunity to read it.
Claudia has spent a large part of her life looking for the answer to who her father is. And what the mysterious Immortelle that her mother seems a part of are. As she joins a new law firm at her mothers insistance she realizes she is closer to the answers than ever before, but her beliefs and choices could get her killed rather than give her what she has been looking for all along. Luke is "young" by Immortelle standards but the hum drum life he had been leading is blown out of the water by the amazing woman he's supposed to seduce. But when he realizes his feelings for her limit him from betraying her he does all he can to protect her. Can they escape his clan and find saftey in another? Will their budding relationship survive the secrets he kept from her in the begining?
Claudia is a strong, fiesty woman who knows how to use her looks to help get her what she wants, as well as throw others off so they don't realize how sharp minded she really is. Having always been to men are to be used she's unsure of her feelings for Luke, but she doesn't let that stop her fun trying to find happiness. Luke is caring and willing to go to any lengths for the woman he has come to love and it's a swoon worthy characteristic. He does what he feels is right even if it's going against all he's ever knows. Loved the two of them and their dynamic relationship.
The world created was confusing at time, but it draws you in and doesn't let you go until you see how the story turns out. Interesting, engrosing enjoyable read.
The plot is enough to keep you going. When I first started to read the story I was thinking I was wondering where the story would go. When I first read the line of my first 75 years for someone we were told was only 30 some years old. I had to re-read the page a few time to see if I missed something. Do not get me wrong I know it is the immortality series but at that time there was no introduction to the immortality people. It so sudden and smooth that I thought it was error until a few pages later.
It is a breath of fresh air at how much time passes throughout the book. So the book may seem like the couple is moving fast like most romances but there are pages where several years and months have passed. Providing a real sense of growing love between Luke and Claudia.
It would have been nice to see more of a development of Claudia's relationship with her father.
You can't help but love Luke, Claudia and Piort. I am hoping Piort has a story coming up later in the series as well as Maria. Maybe even the two of them becoming a couple :)
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book, but it definitely surpassed my expectations.
The story moved along at a good pace and gave enough information without overburdening the reader. Claudia is a sassy female, Luke has somehow managed to hold onto some of his humanity, despite being the young age of 98. I liked how instead of the big relationship drama that usually occurs towards the middle to end of stories, the drama happened relatively early in this book, but yet Claudia and Luke were still able to get past it and their relationship thrived.
My only complaint was that I kept waiting for something to happen once Claudia and Luke went on the run, but that storyline fizzled out when they fled to higher ground (so to speak).
Still, all in all a pleasant read and I'm looking forward to reading the next story in the series.
I received a copy for my honest review, so here it is. This is a great story and I really enjoyed it. Claudia is a sexy, smart, well driven lawyer and she knows how to use her assets. When she gets a job at Cornelius Pharmaceutical, she thinks it is because of her lawyer skills and take no prisoners attitude. Well she will learn that is not the case but will she be able to handle the truth? There are sparks of electricity between her and Luke but can she resist or does she want to? She will learn of the betrayal from her mother, who her father really is and what her future could be. This story is well written and it flows well, with a little bit of everything to keep you glued to the pages. This story has well developed characters and having them from opposite clans will have you rooting for them to get together and make the world a better place. A great debut novel for Abigail Hawk and looking forward to reading more.
so you know those vampire immortal books that are all basically the same storyline but with a few changes. this aint one of them yes its about the immortals but its the best written story i have ever read regarding the immortals its not your typical story but it does have a HEA and you all know you wanna read it cause its so awesome, so go out an buy it today read it for yourself and find out just how awesome the characters are how smooth the storyline is you become so addicted you dont reliase the book is over till its to late
Its 'Twilight' meets '50 Shades'... only better. Abagail Hawke's 'The Immortality Clause' is the story of love, treachery and the fascinating Immortelle. Her writing style is sensational. Claudia's search for truth and family while fighting to keep her life is captivating. I couldn't put it down! The teaser at the end of the next books to come make me curious and eager for more. Praise for Abagail Hawke and V. L. Dreyer, a fascinating novel for a new writer.

The Immortality Clause was a different look into the realm of the supernatural. Claudia is throw into this by her mother. Luke is meant to do one thing but falls in love instead. Watch as Claudia navigates her way.
