Review of (ISBN)9787513315364 (P的密室/岛田庄司著; 夏蓓倍译) - 3.5 stars
"P" Locked Room is actually the 2nd of two short stories in this collection. It seems that the translator has prioritised accuracy over readability - it is quite strange to see the locked room described in overwhelming detail (even with the maps, I read it back and forth about 3 times) and repeated about 3-4 times at least by different sets of characters in the whole story. This might explain why the English translation in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine was said to be abridged (https://www.lockedroominternational.c...). The story itself would be more interesting in a dramatised mode, but the violent nature of the crime might preclude that.
The first one on Lily of the Valley has better pacing and reads quicker. The dilemma now is revealing the culprit may have major implications and indeed it has on the future of Mitarai's future character (on recent recaps, this is reminiscent of how conflicted Galileo was during the storyline of Devotion of Suspect X and Midsummer's Equation). More human drama component here.

幼儿园御手洗与小学生御手洗，推理都是利用他能接触到的知识，我觉得很好。角色补全性质很强，说实话我对这个补全不太满意，如果这个角色不是御手洗我可能觉得更好。然后让我很伤心，原因我不想说，希望以后会忘记。
