Annie's Answer

Rate this book
Owning a flower shop is Annie Williams’ lifelong dream, so she works two jobs to earn the down payment on a business that’s for sale in her small hometown. When local attorney – and eligible bachelor – Nathan Sawyer advertises for a companion for his recently injured aunt, Annie sees the job as the answer to her prayers. Except it means being in close proximity to a man who makes her nervous in a high society world that’s out of her league. Raised by her widowed mother and her retired minister grandfather, she’s never known anything about living the “fine” life.

It’s a test of faith for Annie to break through the curmudgeonly ways of her elderly charge, and an even bigger challenge to avoid falling in love with her new boss.

2-1/2 stars - This was a free Kindle book. It was short and sweet, maybe a little too sweet. A Cinderella-like story with no surprises.

Annie’s Answer by Pam Andrews Hanson is sweet romance that was free on Kindle and is now $2.99. Fans of small town romances with a heroine who’s sweet as cotton candy, but not annoying, will eat this one up. The heroine Annie is very kind, generous and a very hard worker. I’m surprised she found time to sleep. She sells ads for her hometown newspaper, volunteers at her church and works the third shift as a waitress at Yum Yum Pancakes. She dreams of owning an operating a florist shop and almost has the down payment she needs for the store but has no one to cosign for her. She lives with her grandfather and mother, but they can barely make ends meet as it is and can’t loan her any money. Annie decides she needs to find another job and spots a classified ad for a part-time caregiver for an elderly woman. The elderly woman is the aunt of Nathan Sawyer, a well respected and very handsome lawyer in town. The Sawyers are the descendents of the town’s founding fathers and the richest in the area. Annie is very nervous when it comes to the Sawyers, but she feels this is the best way to make the money she needs for her dream to become a reality. When she interviews with Nathan, he warns her that his Aunt Mattie can be a handful, but Annie impresses him that he hires her and offers her a generous salary.

Aunt Mattie is a spry and opinionated but Annie and her hit it off. Annie goes out of her way to do much more than her job entails to Nathan’s dismay, although he appreciates all of Annie’s hard work. Soon enough Nathan appreciates Annie in other ways and their relationship slowly starts to change. Nathan wouldn’t mind dating Annie but Annie is wary because she feels Nathan is out of her league. She loves taking care of Mattie and enjoys her new friendship with Nathan, but she tries her best to keep her distance emotionally from Nathan so she doesn’t end up falling in love with him. She’s afraid he won’t return her feelings and her heart will be broken. But as Annie becomes closer to Mattie and Nathan, she can’t help her attraction for the handsome lawyer who wants her in his life permanently, and not just as an employee.

Annie’s Answer is light on the angst and drama but keeps you interested because of the characters Pam has written. Annie has a lot of support from her grandfather to her mother and especially that of Nathan who can’t help but adore Annie. She’s the best thing for Mattie who feels she’s a burden. Because of Annie, Mattie embraces the community she has accidentally become a part of after a horrible accident that destroyed her home. Through Mattie, Annie finds her self-worth and realizes how much she is loved, mainly from Nathan who she deserves even though both have very different upbringings. Nathan is far from being a snob and is very likeable and never controlling.

If you’re looking for a book that will bring a smile to your face and has a fairy tale feeling to it, Annie’s Answer is your answer. Do pick this one up.

Cute story!! I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I will probably read more, from this mother-daughter writing team, when I need something light and fun.
