Billionaire's Row #1

Billionaire's Row: Book One

Rate this book
Working full-time as a nurse in the eternally busy Accident & Emergency department keeps me busy enough that I don't really get the opportunity to pursue romantic interests; but then a hiccup at a local country club sends Axel Andino, bad-boy billionaire, straight into my department, and he decides that he wants me.

Our first encounter is a disaster, as is our second - but apparently, third time's a charm, and I can't fight the overwhelming connection between us any longer. For a few days, we seem to only have time for one another, hardly leaving his hotel suite other than to change and eat. I live in a fantasy during that time, a fantasy where I am able to be utterly consumed by him as he well and truly sweeps me off my feet.

But all good things must come to an end.

Axel has to return home to London. He has a life there. A senior role within his family's booming technology empire, and he can't exactly leave that behind.

And I have my own home here, too. My own life. My own job.

He leaves with the promise of more, but I push him away, and I tell myself that it's for the best. That we would have never worked, anyway. We're too different, him and I, and some differences just can't be looked past.

But I'm haunted by my decision not to give him a chance.

Can I turn things around before it's too late?

And should I give the multi-millionaire - who wants nothing more than to have me as his - a real, fair chance?

This book was read as an ARC, and this book was predictable in the best way possible. Evie and Axel come from 2 vastly different lives, with Evie being a nurse in a small village and Axel being profoundly rich. The banter between the two of them added an element of humor to the story that was perfect. Axel is a massive alpha hole at the beginning but he grows on you and becomes very likeable by the end. With the author from the UK there is a lot of UK lingo used, but it was a refreshing read. I can’t wait to read the next book when it comes out.

I read this book as an ARC and I couldn’t get enough of it! The beginning took a minute for me to get into due to the different language as the author is from the UK. But once you got used to her writing, I didn’t want it to end. I’m more than ready for the second book to come out and I’ll definitely be adding this book to my physical library as soon as I can. Everyone should be reading this!

good plot but ….

Good plot but it needed more dialogue. The author tells you the inner thoughts of the characters but without the support of the dialogue it’s hard to believe that their relationship has developed. It a lot of just telling you, not really showing you or convincing you. And many, many things are repeated over and over ( characters status or stance on a situation, example: best friend being a doctor and moving). This situation is mentioned in detail at least 3 times. I liked the idea od the plot though, a nurse….and the chase.

cuteness and spice

I liked this book, it gave a really cute vibe of love at first sight with a touch of sarcasm. I enjoy that the female main lead put the mmc in his place multiple times. Leading to their inevitable attraction finally being too much for evie to ignore. I would read the next in the series. I love when a family of brothers have their own story and while they are all interconnected they are uniquely individual stories and that gives way to allowing different genres within the same series.

Evie and Axel are a very cute couple and I loved that they both were stubborn in their own rights. That she didn’t back down and allow a man to run and make every decision. The fact that she held her own till the very end was very enjoyable. I think that’s why I am willing to read the rest of the story. I can’t stand a wishy washy female leader with no back bone. I want a strong stubborn main character that knows how to have a man wrapped around her finger but doesn’t ever let her voice be silenced by a strong stubborn main male lead. I enjoyed the spice aswell! To have multiple spicy scenes but they all were different. It wasn’t the same recycled bs regurgitated into the the story. Where the spice scenes are all the same and they don’t do anything but boring missionary and they claim it’s the best they’ve ever had.. hahaha yeah I’m sure. This was a great read

Spice 🔥🔥🔥/5
Storyline:📖📖📖📖/5
Overall Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This is a cute palette cleanser. A cute start to a series. I would read the rest of the stories. It’s a great billionaire story for the genre and I enjoyed the characters a lot.

3.5/5

I enjoyed this authors writing. It's engaging and descriptive. But, there is such a thing as too much. The chapters were so long. While I did like the switch between Axel and Evie's POVs, everything felt like it took forever, especially the epilogue. That epilogue should have been 25 pages shorter at the very least. The whole book could have been 200 pages shorter, and it still would have been amazing. I will say, I absolutely loved that this entire book there wasn't a whole lot of drama. The banter was there, the sexual tension was there, and the spice scenes were so freaking hot!!! Very rarely will I read a book that doesn't add so much drama to make it interesting. This book was fun and sweet and interesting without all that added miscommunication drama. Evie and Axel were great characters, and I enjoyed watching their relationship bloom. I do look forward to the next book. I hope it's Eli and how he comes back from Carlie's betrayal.

It had the makings to be a decent book - but it didn’t succeed. It was very predictable- too much so.

The MMC was rich, and don’t get me wrong - there have been a lot of books that make the broody elite men still have redeeming qualities, that made you want to follow their story. This book was not that for me. The author put too much effort in making him come across as pompous and arrogant where it came to be forced and how the author thinks they would behave, there was no human to him. It was lackluster that had me rolling my eyes often.

Then came the writing, I know there are some absolute differences in UK and USA English, so some things I chalked up to that but there are a LOT of over used phrases and words. (One in particular phrase was used 64 times) Way too many for me, personally.

There's nothing I love more than a spicy billionaire romance book, but the lack of dialogue really ruined it for me.
I found myself either skipping ALOT of inner thoughts to find out what happened or was said next, or I was having to reread parts because the inner thoughts between dialogue was just too long, I couldn't remember what was said.
I did enjoy the characters and the general plot, but the most exciting part of the book was the epilogue, which wasn't anything to do with the main characters!
I don't think I'll be rushing to read book 2 any time soon, unfortunately.
2 stars as I did love the characters and general idea of the overworked nhs nurse and handsome billionaire but it was just too long (some chapters being over 50 minutes) with not much being said or going on. I did also love the fact it was based in England so a bit easier to picture the scenes.

This book was sent to me as an ARC and this is my honest review...

Axel and Evie come from complete opposite worlds. Evie is a nurse in the A&E and just trying to get by in her small village. Axel is a very wealthy businessman who is from London. Neither of them expected the other when Axel had to take his brother to get his arm checked out.. But Axel being a wealthy man didn't like the small hospital or having to wait so he thought he could talk Evie into Seeing his brother sooner... Evie is a spitfire and held her ground and told him what she thought about that. The banter between Axel and Evie was amazing. I loved that.. Overall this was a really good book and I enjoyed it.

ARC Review*

This book took me awhile to get into, like 25% into the book it finally started grabbing my attention - it is very wordy.

I wanted to really love this book. I was excited for it when reading the description, but the book was a slow burn and I caught myself not being interested enough to want to finish it around 5% in. I pushed through and though the ending was a bit expected it was a good story. Axel and Evie were very realistic and like-able characters!

Anywho, I’ve been loving billionaire romances lately and this one didn’t disappoint in that aspect! “Posh Twat” is now my favorite phrase to use 🤣 the bantering between Axel and Evie is just so funny I loved it!

I will be reading book two!

loved this book so much, the spice was great, the tension between Evie and Axel was amazing and really believable, had me grinning to myself because I really liked their relationship and the back and forth. The build up was just right for me, not too fast not too slow and there was lots of intense spice scenes too, and their relationship was believable and fun. SPOILERS also glad to read a book with a HEA and sets up nicely for book two.

Thank you for letting me be an arc reader for this as it was such a great book and I'm really excited for book two, when will that be out already lol

I had the utmost pleasure of being an ARC reader for this book! Although it took me a little bit to get in to, I am glad I stuck it out until the end. The relationship between main characters Evie and Axel are a slow burn, however, we do get some great spice throughout the story 🌶️
Evie and Axel are incredibly realistic and relatable characters, who come from completely different backgrounds. Against all odds they seem to work through their differences and find mutual ground. This is a light, fun, easy read and I’m looking forward to what Melissa has in store for us in book 2!

Billionaire’s Row

I can definitely tell the author was English before I even got to the end. The details that to goes into for the setting is definitely a lot. Also I feel like this is a slow burn romance. I just feel like their story isn’t done. Like do they get married/have kids? Etc. she also back tracks in her detail. Over all the book is good. Maybe I’ve read too many dark romances. It’s a great book no doubt about that. 2 different worlds and cultures clash together opposites attract book.

Hot!
So, I read book 2 first and honestly loved it. I don’t think I missed out any by reading them out of order, but it was nice to go back. I think the author is new and I’d definitely say book 2 is better, although I did really like Evie and Axel’s story in book 1. The lead characters are great fun and Axel is the perfect Alpha A-hole!
This book is wordier, but the banter is great and spice is a perfect amount. I’ve given this book 4 starts but book 2 is 5 stars for me!! Weirdly enough I’d say read book 2 first, I’m glad I did it that way!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it’s typically one of your books where you kind of already know what’s going to happen, but it’s a good kind of pallet cleaner if you’re looking for something different. The author is from the UK so some of the wording choices and writing style is different compared to what you may already be used to, but I think it just adds to the character development overall. I am excited to see what the next book will be about

I was given the opportunity to read this book as an ARC. I loved the story line of axel an evie. I did find myself struggling at times to continue to read or get a tad lost. I did also have to keep in mind that the author is British and some things sounded odd to me but were completely normal sayings for her. Overall I really enjoyed the book, however I do wish for more to their story! And I can’t wait to see what else the author writes.

Also. Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was able to read this as an arc. I absolutely loved the relationship and banter. It took a little bit to get used to the UK differences but once I did, it was a refreshing read. There wasn’t a lot of surprises in the book and it felt a little predictable. The hardest part for me was how many reminders there were throughout the book. At one point, the reminder was so long that I felt like I was rereading what I’d already read.

Sexy billionaire - what’s not to love!
I actually read book 2 first after it was recommended to me, so I’d met Axel and Evie there and really enjoyed their relationship so it was nice to read their story. I liked Axel in book 2 and I love him here! I have to just say it, the 🌶️ is so good!
Evie takes no rubbish and I laughed aloud at her attitude towards Ax. Great book and really looking forward to reading about the next Andino brother!

I immediately related to this book as a former healthcare worker, especially with all the changes that came from the pandemic. I was excited to see where Evie and Axel's story would go. I enjoyed the slow burn romance and the discussion of some tough topics that other healthcare workers will understand. Evie and Axel come from completely different backgrounds so I was happy to see that this was written in dual POV.

While I wanted to really love this book as I was super excited when reading the description - I couldn’t. Axel is an arsehole billionaire who has never felt the rejection of a woman until he meets the sassy, red headed Evie. Giving Axel a dose of humble pie, this was a fun, cute read with a little spice and praise. Overall, I enjoyed the banter between the characters and it was easy to like them. I look forward to reading more about the characters and the other brothers.

This book was a longer read. There were several recaps between chapters. Had just the right amount of spice to not take away from the plot. Small town, hardworking girl meets a “posh twat”, confident billionaire. Her life gets turned upside down after meeting him. Great story line and an epic epilogue. Can’t wait for the next!

Full disclosure this was an ARC. The book follows the typical billionaire alphahole (Axel) and strong independent female lead (Evie) in an enemies to lovers fashion. The author is British so sometimes there were sections that didn’t translate well in the reading. However, the banter between Axel and Evie was so so good. This is a perfect palate cleanser book when you need a break from dark and spicy but still want that enemies to lover experience. Being a new author I expect some great books to come from Melissa Jane.

Wish American writers would stop writing books about characters in and from UK. The dialogue is utter crap, saying “surely not” 100 times doesn’t make them sound british at all.

None of the characters had any substance, couldn’t connect with them.

Writing style is horrendous, SO. MUCH. USELESS. INNER. MONOLOGUE - and full of typos

Posh **** Iykyk!
I really enjoyed this. How the MFC takes no crap from the very rich and very sexy MMC. I want to travel to London and find my own Andino brother!
Spice level is really good and each brother has his own book. I especially enjoyed that these books were set in London and the author writes in a way I could see the story like a movie in my mind.

It took me awhile to get into this book (probably because it was my first romance book after reading a bunch of mystery thrillers), but once I got into it I absolutely could not put it down. This book was well written especially for the authors first book. I can’t wait for book 2 to come out.

Evie and Axel were greatly portrayed characters. Book was slow burn but very spicy. I absolutely loved it. The banter between characters was very cute. I found myself relating with both characters in certain ways. British humor was hilarious. I cannot wait for more!!

Axel is perfection!!!

I will admit, in the beginning, i kind of thought that Evie could have been a hair loss aggressive to Axel, but his patience with her is out of this world. It was such a good read, I can't wait for book 2!!!
