Small Pox. Once thought eradicated, has reemerged...weaponized. The Hidden Hand is once again trying to cull the world's population. Only Ronnie, Zach, and Quirk stand in their way. From an explosive maximum security prison break to One Direction concert, Code is chalk full of the twists, turns, and gadgets you have come to expect from the Robin Hood Hacker series.
Best book of the series and I loved them all (including the intervening short stories). Great underlying theme and loved all the main characters. The defence forces of the world would just LOVE to get their hands on the high-tech weapons dreamed up by this author!! What an imagination, but also a great basic understand of the possibilities of IT. Which is important to as computer nerd like me :)
Another year, another epidemic, another adventure for the Robin Hood Hacker team. As is expected, they have to go and burn a bunch of stuff, while fighting the Hidden Hand, with the government occasionally helping, but most of the time it's them against everyone. This time the Hidden Hand is not so Hidden, and the threats are out in the open. At the end, they manage to get the vaccine and defeat the bad guys, and once again they are the heroes. This one is even crazier than the previous ones, and even if it had the whole thriller thing going on, there was something missing. The story wasn't bad, and it was entertaining, you just have to leave reason out of it.
In Carolyn McCray’s most recent addition to the Robin Hood Hacker series, Code, our lovable hackers are back again to thwart the Hidden Hand. Even though it is a little similar to the past two books, it is still a gripping read! In the third installment of this techno thriller series, the Hidden hand unleashes another deadly disease on humanity and, once again, Ronnie, the protagonist, sets out to save the human race once again. As usual, the Plum Island disease research lab goes into immediate action. However this time the Hidden hand takes a far more aggressive approach as they destroy every human vaccine manufacturer on the planet. It seems that all hope is lost until they find an animal vaccine plant and their cause is saved. Meanwhile, the Robin Hood Hacker is tasked with finding the antivirus at the Hidden Hand HQ and ending them once and for all! After reading the first two books, this almost feels like an exact replica of the others. In every book it’s just the same plot every time, and that's a shame because I really like the characters and they have so much unused potential. I do however think that, although the story may have been lacking, the writing was pretty good. It was able to keep you interested in the book and enjoying it the whole time. I’m glad that this is the last book in the series because I think that anymore would just be beating a dead horse. All in all, though it was a little too similar to the other entries to this series, it was well written, entertaining and the perfect book for some summer reading!
I really enjoyed the first book of the series and I actually enjoyed the second even more. Maybe it's because I actually wanted something different from the third book, but I was left a bit disappointed by this one. It's not that lacks anything from the previous two books...it's that it has all that, plus some more but nothing exactly different. It may depend from the fact that I read all three the books in a short span of time, so all seemed like a whole repetition of pretty much the same themes. Don't misunderstand me, I enjoyed reading this third book as well, but by now all the novelty of the plot is kind of old news and when I got to the chapter where Amanda 'discovers' the new modified small pox virus I stifled a groan. What really kept me reading were the characters. Carolyn McCray manages to create such compelling and likeable main and secondary characters and I couldn't stop wanting to know what became of them. The ending was a bit sudden and didn't work too well for me...I would have liked something longer to wrap it up but I guess there'll be a short sequel story for that. All in all, I can honestly say I'll be waiting for the 4th book next summer, hoping that'll bring new plot lines with the already perfect cast of characters and always growing arsenal of techno gadgets.
If you read this in series with the others as one giant book I imagine it would be a little less disappointing. If you read it w while after, you are left feeling like you have already ready this book because there is really nothing different. It is pretty much the same story as the previous two with the same mission and the same technology. The only real difference was the type of art that they had to burn for the angelic symbols. Because I have basically read this story before, it felt a lot slower and dragged on a bit more with highly predictable outcomes without as much adventure getting there. I highly recommend the first two (and the bridges), but this one just doesn't captivate as much.
Lack of growth in the writing aside, there is also no growth in the characters or any plot advancements that the first two didn't cover. A little bit of a let down. I thought "at least there is a final mini-story after this", but it was so riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes that it had me upset as well; although the story was a little better and THAT is what the author should have used as the story for Code instead of just another repeat of it's prequels.
Techno-thrillers always thrill me and this series by Carolyn McCray is no exception. I am amazed and delighted by the wealth of creative ideas Ms. McCray had for the various surveillance and weaponry designs utilized by the Robin Hood Hacker and her team. Most of the techno-thrillers I've read were written by men and I am pleased that a woman wrote these books. They are set in our contemporary world, yet the scientific ideas are presented in true science fiction fashion. I think Isaac Asimov would have enjoyed this series; it introduces technology that doesn't exist yet (or if it does, I'm not aware) but might be feasible in the future.
Because of how "Cipher" ended, I was eager to jump into "Code" the last book in the Robin Hood Hacker series. In no time at all, the team was up to their necks in trouble while chasing the elusive Hidden Hand bad guys. If not for the fact that they're always dodging bullets and RPGs, I would love to go on an adventure with this team. It's hard to review this book without giving anything away, so I'll end by saying Carolyn McCray is a very gifted and incredible storyteller who won't let you down with this book.
Super! The third book is a little repetitive with the big bad disease and artwork burning but I didn't expect anything different. I was surprised at how invested I was in the relationships, especially Quirk and Ronnie's.
I found the Robin Hood Hacker series better than the Betrayed. McCray's writing is smoother and I wasn't rolling my eyes at some of the liberties taken.
I'm looking forward to the final story and I'll miss the characters after.
Once again an exciting, fast paced adventure with impossible weapons and more art going up in flames. Although I enjoyed the story (and the series) enormously, the plot was wearing thin, and the quality control was dropping by the end. In this book (at least in my kindle version) the team left the hotel in Florence to go to the airport. They then arrived at the airport and whisked through customs, then they were still driving to the airport again. ??? A fast fun enjoyable read :)
I loved the book Code for so many reasons. Ronnie, Zach, Quirk and Pilot are out to put an end to the Hidden Hand. The technology that Ms. McCray came up with was like something out of a James Bond movie. This book had so much action I was worn out just from reading it. The descriptions of all the historical sites paint a wonderful picture in ones mind. Excellent addition to the series!
The latest book in the Robin Hood Hacker series was a fast paced, action packed pursuit of the Hidden Hand. With cool inventions and fun characters this is an adventure that will keep you turning pages and wishing you had a friend like Quirk!
Fun read although not very believable. The rapidly changing technology almost simply because a person wills it to exist was too far fetched for me. Still, I enjoyed the adventure and will certainly read more of McCray's writings.
Once again I was not disappointed.. loved the 1st 2 in this series and number 3 was no exception.. I want Quirk as a friend H is so adorable... Awesome series... recommend highly..
