From cool April rains in Minnesota to the warm fall harvest in Napa Valley, SUMMER OF DRAGONFLY CHANGES will take you on a journey of friendship, family and love
Imagine a second chance at something you really care about and taking that chance because you have to.
In SUMMER OF DRAGONFLY CHANGES, Samantha McGreggor returns to Loon Lake and finds herself back in Jake Hunter’s life and up to her ears in family drama - again. Only this summer, it’s not just her family drama.
Jake’s sister Dana is devastated by a divorce she never saw coming. Can Sammy and Jake help her mend her broken heart?
Jake’s cousin Vince is losing his mother to cancer. Can Sammy and Jake keep him from losing his joie de vivre?
As Sammy knows, the adult dragonfly only has a few months to fly and live - making it a symbol for living in the moment.
Will Sammy take a lesson from the dragonfly this summer and live her life to the fullest? It’s been a long, hard year and it’s time for a SUMMER OF DRAGONFLY CHANGES.
You loved Sammy and the gang in SUMMER OF FIREFLY MEMORIES. They’re back together the following summer and just as fun, loving, and dysfunctional as ever.
Joan Gable writes contemporary women’s fiction that is nostalgic yet rings true to life. She’ll have you wondering if her stories are really fiction.
When she’s not writing or learning the business of being an author-preneur, she’s trying to be a kind and loving wife, mom, role-model, sister, friend, aunt, daughter, and housekeeper (she’s having a very challenging time with the last one!).
The way this bok was written, the characters, the setting, all of it, was like I was there. Like I was Sammy. No fancy big words, just regular life happenings like the kind that happens in real life. Then when I finished the second book and read about the author and how she wrote, well, she hit this series out of park! I am definitely a big fan and cannot wait for the next Loon Lake book! I read allot and rarely do I feel compelled to want to write a review. For me, this book is tops!!!
Day to day living requires strength and a certain degree of mystique in the signs we see about us. The nuances in this book about dragonflies, bears, stars have a certain degree of lore which can be applied to a day in any life. While this is a work of fiction, every reader can relate to the characters and the sometimes difficult tasks they face. The author states in her acknowledgements, she knows her writing is somewhat lacking but her intention is to provoke memories and create new ones with time allotted to us. In that capacity, she succeeds.
Sammy certainly can compare her life and those lives around her, to the changes made by a dragonfly. Seems like all the female characters in the story have problems, big problems and are forced to make great decisions and lifestyle changes. Sammy is always there to help them find their way. Unfortunately, that leaves her romance with the "super catch" Jake, on hold. Interesting character studies.

Great reading... wonderfully written... can't wait for 3rd book to come out! 5 stars.
I read the first book in the series and thought it was decent. Maybe a bit sappy, certainly with some questionable language and dialogue (in the sense that it's often very dated and sometimes over-the-top), but decent enough that I wanted to see what happened next. So I bought this one.
Unfortunately, this one was not a good follow-up. We barely hear about two of the sisters. Sammy, rather than being her own person and going through her own changes, is merely a fairy godmother/wise granny-type to a handful of other characters. This felt like treading water, waiting for things to happen. Not impressive at all.
The book also had a number of problems with homophones and words that just didn't seem to make sense in context, like the author or editor wasn't sure what they meant but thought they sounded good. And there were tons of unnecessary paragraph breaks. It really interrupted the flow of the book and often caused confusion over who said what.
If there are subsequent books, which I'm guessing there will be after the clunky stopping point, I won't be reading them.
I really liked the first book in the series with the exception of the ending, but that's because I didn't know this was to be a series.
Now that I know that and I've read this one, I have say I'm quite unimpressed and kinda bored. The relationship between Sammy and Jake is SLOW. And, really, this book is less about romance and more about helping the women in these families overcome hardships. This is so chick lit in its approach that I started getting bored 30% in and but wanted to see what happened, if anything, with Sammy and Jake, and frankly, it's still unresolved.
There is too much inconsequential detail... that chapter with Aunt Kathy and the winery helped to get me to sleep at night because it was SO BORING.
I loved the use of symbolism, but that really didn't start happening until too far into the book.... did I mention the slow pace of this book?
This is the second book in a series. I liked it so much I am going to revise my review of the first book, Summer of Firefly Memories. I was frustrated at the end of the first book, but luckily for me the second one had already been published and I was able to launch right into it. If you're into books with lots of action and mystery, this may not be for you. It's a book about life...it's ups, downs, losses, healing, faith and relationships of all kinds - sisters, friends, lovers, parents and those who become our family whether they are or not. It has beautiful illustrations of all these things. It reminds me of some of the indie movies I have loved...a great story about life and all that comes with it. At the end, the author says this won't be the last we'll see of these characters. I hope I don't have to wait too long to reconnect with them again!
And I don't often say that. The book I read before this one was a mystery full of dark characters and a convoluted storyline. I had read the first in this series a couple of months ago and decided I needed an uplifting story next. This book was certainly that and much more. Sammy is such an interesting main character. I want to get to know her family more and become one of their friends. Yes some of the storyline might be predictable but in this case it's ok. It is well written and the characters are well developed. I strongly recommend this book and this author!!
I chose the first book in this series because of my own difficulties with my 4 sisters but it was the depth and warmth of the characters that made me have to start the second immediately! Too often I find timelines in books for morning, healing, and love are unrealistic. Not the case with these beautiful books! They even encouraged me to slow down and allow myself to acknowledge my feelings and my place in my own journey. Truly blessed to have come across this series and look forward to finding out what happens next with these wonderful women!
This is book @2 in the Loon Lake Series. Can;t wait for book #3.
It is a continued story of 4 sisters who lost their parents in an automobile collision. They find each other again after several years. There are good times, sad times and love conquers it all.
I loved this book just like I did Summer of Firefly Memories!! I definitely could relate to the story line and characters. Asbo said I am the baby of 5 girls. My father passed away when I was 37 and my Mom passed away when I was 55. Can't wait to read more of your books!
Book one in the series was an easy read, so I figured I would try book 2. I loved it! I could totally picture the resort, the main cabin, the lake... reminded me of your typical east coast lake town. It's an easy read with a some trouble, some grief, and some happy endings.
I loved this story as much as the first one. This author makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. I was able to connect with all of them in one way or another. I really hope she continues this series so we can see where this family is all headed.
I LOVED this sequel to Summer of Butterfly Memories. I can't wait for the next book! I really enjoy the characters and the story line. I picture myself in the cabins at the lake and at the winery in California. I feel like I know the characters and would love to hang out with them!
Another great read in this series. I have the hope that since it's #2 and not "the sequel" there will be more books. I loved the characters and the lake. I can't wait for a vacation at this place...
the book was good picked up right where the other left off. I was captivated the entire time. my only complaint was the end. I am hoping a third book comes out soon!
