Born and raised in South Carolina, I hold a master's degree in personnel services from Clemson University and am a member of Romance Writers of America, EPIC authors, and Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary society for women educators. I've been married for thirty five years to my college sweetheart. We have two sons-a physicist and a fraud investigator. They've given us three wonderful grandchildren-one girl and two boys. We also have two mean cats and one sweet, brown dog.

I've been writing since 2001 when my son asked me to proofread a book he'd written. I figured if he could, so could I. My first published novel, A New Leaf, was the winner of the 2003 Timeless Love contest. If I wasn't sold on writing before, that did it. I've been writing ever since and don't have any plans to stop. Frankly, I don't think I could even if I wanted to. Writing is a strange compulsion that drives me to spend long hours in front of a keyboard when I could be doing important things like napping or eating chocolate. My house isn't dusted as often, I rarely cook, and who cares if the laundry got done or not. Yeah, no doubt about it, I'm addicted.

When I'm not writing or teaching I enjoy gardening, quilting, and trying new restaurants with my friends. You can learn more about me at my web site http://www.elainecantrell.com and at http://www.facebook.com/elainepcantrell. I also have a blog at http://www.elainepcantrell.blogspot.com

Prince Alan was imprisoned by his father because he did not want to marry. He had a loving wife, who died, and didn't feel that because he was now the heir that he needed to marry for political gain or heirs rather than love.

Princess Morgane has a tyrant for a father. She also did not wish to marry and was tortured by her father. Married by proxy, the choice has been taken away.

Together they try to make the best of the situation. There is treachery and deceit around them. Some conspire to rule and others just to gain power of any kind. Enchanters ruin and deceiving royalty are a large part of the story.

This was a cute book. At times the writing seemed a little choppy to me, but the story remained easy to follow along with. I liked the characters of Alan and Morgane. They both have had a rough time in life, but continue to rise above their circumstances. Their romance is slow, they give each other space and time to know one another after they are thrown together. They learn to love and trust based upon each others deeds and personality.

This book has intimacy behind closed doors. There is kissing and violence.

First time author for me on this one and I was captivated from the start, which is such a rare and pleasant experience for me!!

I didn't give the book five stars for three reasons; the "green people" who are flat out zombies and that fantasy part of the book was VERY WELL WRITTEN but also creepy and unsettling. Sensitive readers be warned. Cantrell brilliantly injects this part into the story and it makes perfect sense the way she does it but my heart sped up the whole time reading it. I felt horrible for the boy that helps them. The second reason for my rating is the romance between Alan and Morgane, overall it's mostly clean but as they fall in love the sensuality described is more than I cared for. "He kissed her again as he lifted her gown." Mind you, it's not much, but even that detail is unnecessary for this Action/Fantasy/Romance. The last thing that slightly bothered me was the enchantments, they definitely add evil and intrigue to the story to keep the plot moving along, but again it's slightly creepy.

Andra and Aili, twin sisters, were easily the characters to hate in this one. One is deadly and one is a disrespectful temptress, both were despicable and I would have liked to see more in detail how they were dealt with.

I recommend this book for ages 15 and older, it's not a YA book but it's an easy read with two main characters that the reader will come to love. I highly recommend reading Escapement by Ciara Knight if you enjoy this book, they are both great stories for the speculative lover.

The Enchanted begins when Prince Alan defies his father, and his father sends him to prison to make him obey him. When he gets out a year later, he discovers that he is married to Princess Morgane, who has also been harmed by her father for disobeying him. These two are not at all sure they want to be together, but when evil comes to the castle they must come together to help save their kingdom. And may even fall in love themselves.

This book was a very short fantasy novel that had lots of intrigue, and a dash of romance as well. It was a lot better then I thought it was going to be. It had a interesting story, with a good heroine and hero. The hero was brave, smart, and kind. While the heroine got on my nerves when it came to her looks, she was still brave, and had a good heart as well. I enjoyed this story very much.

This book just annoyed me. In the very beginning we have a prince that was imprisoned by his horrible father but soon his father returns and frees the son but is going to force him into a marriage. Oh, wait he is already married! Then on top of that we have a girl that has been horribly abused by her father. They are kind of a match made in heaven but I just did not like Morgane. She was so obsessed with believing that anyone could want her she did not fight for anything. I hated the ending because after everything the father had done the prince did not even ask for an apology or anything.

As the author of The Enchanted, I naturally love it, but I will say that it's one of my all time favorites. The book is my first romantic fantasy. I was careful not to let the fantasy elements overpower the romance, and I think I got exactly the right balance. The book showcases a reluctant prince and a scarred princess who find themselves at a crossroads where love and fate converge.

The Enchanted is a heartwarming fantasy romance. King Bowdyn is a hard man his wife Queen Donella tries to be hard but underneath is good and kind. I was surprised by her story she shares with Prince Alan. Alan is a great guy and not hard like King Bowdyn. King Bowdyn wants to teach his son a lesson so he is sent away for a year. King Bowdyn arranges a marriage for Prince Alan to Princess Morgane. Princess Morgane come into this marriage with fear and many issues. Prince Alan has some issues as well. Do they work them out? Evil comes to the kingdom, will they prevail against it? Prince Alan and Morgane are in danger and enchanters are about. They are transported to another kingdom and must fight for their lives and break and enchantment. Can they do it? when they get home what will they find? So, will Prince Alan and Morgane fall in love? I really like the mystery , action and watching the relationship of Alan and Morgane progress! It was so sweet. A wonderful story that has swept into my heart. I will be remembering this one for a long time and reading it again.

I did find a few things that bugged me...for example The king has a scavenger hunt and then the princess is missing but never calls of the scavenger hunt it just kind of left me hanging. Alan also suddenly knew exactly where the pool was when he did not know before. Alan rescues some of his fathers warriors and then suddenly has a bow and we don't know how he got it. These are not huge things but I noticed them.

Just Fyi~ This story does not contain any swearing or sex.

Prince Alan lost his first love and was not interested in finding another soon. When his father demanded an arranged marriage, Prince Alan stood up to him and faced the consequences. Sent away to be toughened up, Prince Alan came back a married man--as his marriage was done by decree.

Morgane had no interest in marriage either, but she has suffered greatly at the hands of her father. Her choices are limited. She makes her own plans to escape the marriage, but evil forces are at play.

Caught in the middle of dark magic, Prince Alan and his wife struggle to survive just as their feelings for each other grow. They must face intense danger and forces outside their control to save their kingdom and their own lives.

Full of twists and turns, action, romance, and supernatural forces, The Enchanted is a captivating story. I felt like I was transported to another land, or two. Although I liked the intricacies of Prince Alan's character, I was most impressed with Morgane and her ability to not just overcome the cruelties life handed her but to rise above and find her own strength. She was not wilting daisy waiting for her prince to save her. Her strength only made them more engaging as a couple.

I highly recommend The Enchanted to readers who love a good fairy tale--one with magic, love, epic battles, close calls, and interesting heroes and heroines.

The Enchanted
by Elaine Cantrell

Having once defied his father in regards to an arranged marriage, Prince Alan isn't given a second chance to defy his father when he is married to Princess Morgane before ever setting eyes on her. Prince Alan and Princess Morgane are pawns in their fathers' hands as a tenuous alliance between their two kingdoms is formed with their marriage.

But evil and deceit threaten to destroy Alan and Morgane and their kingdom when powerful enchantments are used against them. Alan and Morgane must learn to depend on each other when they embark on an unexpected journey that takes them into an unknown land that is shrouded in a more dangerous enchantment than they have ever experienced.

Trapped in a world that wants to destroy them Alan and Morgane must work together to overcome the enchantment if they want to survive long enough to return home and stop the evil that has captured their kingdom. If they live what will their future hold? A marriage that neither wants? Or will their political alliance become one of the heart as well.

Can two people, who have been damaged by the very people who should have cherished and protected them, find healing and love in a marriage by proxy? Alan and Morgane are about to find out. The Enchanted is a story that should appeal to fans of both fantasy and romance genres and it won't bog you down in too much fantasy or excessive romance.

If you regularly read my reviews, you know that I have a kind of love-hate relationship with fantasies. Very rarely do I find a fantasy that actually captures my attention and intrigues me beyond idle curiosity. This is one such fantasy. From the beginning of the book, I was drawn into the story. It certainly helped that the author set the book during the times of kings and queens. And the brutality described within the story sent shivers throughout my body.

I fully expected to lose interest in the book when time travel was mentioned, but I was not turned off in any way. Even when enchantment entered the picture, my interest was piqued even more. I essentially deciphered the ending, but that did not dampen my enjoyment of the book. In fact, I hope the author is planning a sequel because this is one fantasy series I would follow all the way.

This book was such a breath of fresh air due to what was not found within its pages. That's right--no profanity and no bedroom scenes. This means that the book is suitable for young adults. There is some violence, but mostly it is not problematic. What is done to the princess by her father is truly horrendous, but it is not described in graphic detail. I can recommend this to lovers of young adult books, new adult books, fantasies, and romances.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Prince Alan has quite a dilemma. For the past four years he has mourned his wife Olwyn's death; however, his father, King Bowdyn has recently commanded that he marry again - this time to a woman of noble birth. Alan cannot ever imagine remarrying, especially to a woman he has never even met or has a chance of loving. For his refusal to fulfill his father's wishes, Alan is imprisoned for defiance for the period of one year. When he is released, Alan finds out that he was married by proxy to the Princess Morgane for the past two months.

Prince Alan soon finds that his new bride isn't the sweet, submissive creature he expected. Morgane has the heart of a dragon and beauty beyond compare, but she isn't thrilled about the marriage either. However, Morgane has discovered through bitter experience that defiance is dangerous, and she has the scar to prove it.

When dark treachery threatens the kingdom, Morgane and Alan must embark on a perilous journey that has an excellent chance of ending in failure and death for them and all of their people.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, and was totally immersed in the story from the first page. I do love paranormal romance, but while there are brief mentions of fantastic creatures and enchantment, the paranormal elements weren't overstated or overwhelming. I give this book a definite A+!

THE ENCHANTED is a sweet story. Everything is in place for a fairytale romance: a prince and a princess forced into a marriage neither wants, magic in the Kingdom, and an evil princess who has plans to make the prince (and much more) her own. Oh, and (spoiler alert) a happy ending.

Through a series of events and a magic spell gone awry, the newly married couple are sent to another place, another time, where they have to work together to undo a dark magic spell if they are to ever return to their own place and time.

The writing doesn't try too hard, which was good--it didn't distract from a nice story. No profanity or descriptive sex, this book could be read by YAs as well as older MGs.

A sweet story, easy read, fairytale/fantasy/romance 5 stars.

This story is not only sweet but filled with magic and suspense. Alan was sent to prison for a year because he did not want to marry someone he had never met. Morgane was punished by her father for the same reason, causing her to be scarred. Convinced that nobody could love her Morgane tries to protect her heart. Alan is not certain that he wants to remain in his kingdom, feeling that he has been nothing but a disappointment to his father.
Soon,, the adventure begins. There are enchantments put into place even though it has been banned from the land. A new world that is cursed with horrible green people. All the while an evil princess trying to take everything that she can.
It is a truly captivating story with some real sweet parts.

I loved this book. It is a fairytale with many twists. Time travel, romance, battles and enchantment all in one book. The characters were so moral and strong. Alan and Morgane had me rooting for them from the beginning. I never lost interest at all, the book had me page turning all night, with anticipation in what would happen. The author actually makes you feel you are there with them. Well worth a read, you won't be disappointed.

This book has it all, mystery, romance, fantasy and even a bit of the paranormal! Of course what is a fantasy without a prince, a princess and an evil villain? Well this story has that as well and much more. I enjoyed the developing relationship between the hero and heroine. They both came into the relationship against their will and both damaged in some way. The author does a wonderful job of building on their pasts and bringing them together with flair and finesse as she draws the reader into the story. I was a bit taken aback at the storyline in the alternate world they went to however. All in all I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more from this author.
