Commentary on the Apocalypse: Part 1 - From Christ with Love

Rate this book
The famous medieval commentary on the Book of Revelation, translated into English for the first time in 1200 years! This book meditates on Revelation's connections to the rest of Scripture, quotes many early Christian sources, and provides timeless advice for living in a world where not every Church member acts that way.

Part I focuses on the seven letters Christ sends with love to the seven churches, in Chapters 1-3 of Revelation, while also including broad overviews of how to interpret the whole book. (This includes Beatus' prologues, the Summa Dicendorum, and Books 1 and 2 of his Commentary.)

For a number of years I have enjoyed M.S. O'Brien's audio recordings of sacred texts. Searching online to see what she's been doing lately, I discovered that she'd translated this work, Commentary on the Apocalypse, by St Beatus of Liebana. I bought it as soon as I'd confirmed that Beatus is recognized as a Saint in the Orthodox Church.

The translator did not attempt to smooth out the roughness of the text or translation. In my opinion, this adds to its beauty and uplifting character. I've already purchased the next volume.

Thanks so much to Maureen O'Brien for translating this text for simpletons like me that can't read the original...great job.
