Have you ever thought about what goes on in the head of a raccoon? It’s OK, I didn’t either until I read this book. Sherwan takes you there, and it’s quite an interesting place to sharpen one’s survival senses. I can imagine Sherwan sitting on his back porch, just observing and giving life to this story. “Mask” is a huge raccoon that eludes a hunter, causes some havoc and makes quite a few friends (and enemies) along the way. The reader walks alongside of Mask through the familiar Door County forest, wetlands, and lakeshore as he does what raccoons do to stay alive. You wonder with amazement at the shear intelligence these creatures inhabit and finish with a bit more respect for them. This book is certainly a Door County classic!
