Reviews for Dangerous

“Reading Dangerous Waters is almost as good as scuba diving. The book delivers adventure, suspense, thrills and romance, along with plenty of underwater action. The main characters, Terry Hunter and Joe Manetta, are appealing and attractive; totally modern yet with a touch of old fashion values. This is an excellent novel for both divers and non-divers.”
Bonnie J. Cardone, former editor of Skin Diver Magazine, author of The Fireside Diver.

Paul Mila has a home run with Dangerous Waters. Anyone who is familiar with the Island of Cozumel will feel as if they are right in and a part of the story. As Paul took me from adventure to adventure, problem to problem...I recognized exactly where we were at that moment in Cozumel. The story itself is a great mystery and a wonderful love story.
I am ordering his sequel, Whales' Angels, today and looking forward to even more written by Paul Mila!

Just returned from a vacation in Cozumel, was great to follow along with the character and relate to her experiences on the wondrous island. Especially the scuba diving, world class. Great read, can't wait to finish.

I read Dangerous Waters while on vacation. This is not my normal read, so I was surprised that I liked it. DW is fast paced, light hearted, well written, and fun.

Caution: SPOILERS!

I had the pleasure of buying this book directly from the author, and while I credit his creativity for writing a scuba diving fiction book, the writing style itself was lacking.

The technical information regarding diving was cool and it was nice to be reminded of it as a diver myself. However, the overall writing style was simplistic, verging on how I was writing in high school. The overall plot is interesting, but the sentence structure is a bit choppy and predictable.

And as soon as the character Mark is introduced, I knew he was going to die in a shark attack. One of the characters even mentions how bad Americans’ idea of sharks are thanks to movies/books like ‘Jaws’; I really don’t think the author having the main character’s love interest killed by sharks was a wise choice on that front! It’s perpetuating that stereotype!

The best part of the book was, by far, the descriptions of the places in Cozumel. Since I was certified there as a diver in 2014, it was cool to revisit some of those locations, even if only on a page.

Additionally, there are some glaring grammatical errors in the book too.

Overall, it was predictable and not very well written. However, the plot was decent enough. The saving graces were the locations and the technical details about diving.

Kudos to the author for writing an action-packed first novel full of scuba diving. However, the writing style needs work.

Each of Paul Mila’s books are fast paced, entertaining and difficult to put down. While each book has a small number of the same characters, the adventure in each is entirely different. The bad guys in each are different with different agendas, but all are equally evil.

The story lines are not difficult to follow with a lot of jumping around, making them very easy to read. The events in the books are not far-fetched, but rather quite possible. Mila’s style makes you feel like you are living the events as they happen in the book. The events in the books are very easy to believe they could actually happen.

As a retired law enforcement officer, and SCUBA diver, Mila’s books explore topics I find very interesting and entertaining. His style of writing brings it all together. One word of caution, if you read one of Paul's books, plan on reading them all. Once you are exposed to the characters and wonderful stories, you will want more!

Paul Mila is one of my favorite authors and his books are the perfect prescription for anyone needing to escape to the islands for a few hours, even if only by being immersed in the pages of his entertaining books.
