It's hard when summer ends, but the hearty season that follows overflows with holidays, sports, and fun. In this companion to Spring Things, the author and illustrator pay tribute to fall.
Nothing especially memorable, but this is a quick, fun read capturing various snapshots of autumn activities. The rhymes are very good and it makes me want to go carve a pumpkin and sip some hot apple cider! :-)
Fun rhyming account of who loves the fall (though the spelling bee participant looks anxious rather than delighted). Art is just average--though thank heavens for a multicultural cast plus animals--but text carries through and seems good for preschool storytime.
It’s time to celebrate all the fall festivities– big and small– that this season has to offer! From sipping apple cider to trick-or-treating, there is something for everyone to love. Exuberant rhyming and colors that leap off the page like kids into a leaf pile make this the perfect autumnal read.
9/13/17 & 9/14/17: Covering for Betsy's Toddler Time. She had a fall theme with this as the opening book. Really good choice for toddlers. Simple text with lots of possible actions for them to join in on. Lots of surprised faces when Halloween and Thanksgiving entered into the season. (The problem with living in Utah when winter comes much too soon.) Great on both days.
I did not particularly like this picture book. It had one or two words per page on average and a lot of them are not actually used in the English language. It was a cute way to explain festive fall activities, but not in the way I would use in my future classroom.
who doesn't love FALL? autumn is the best!! well the best season in my humble opinion ... i love it. love the treats, the views, the smells, everything is great ... usually perfect temps. so fun. great festivals. drives. picture taking. so fun!!
This one is great for storytime. It rhymes, I like the art, and it is pretty short. Good vocabulary but also not enough crazy words to be confusing for kids.
This was another book I read in preparation for my fall storytime. This book is short with lots of vibrant pictures but not a lot of text. It works pretty well for my younger or antsier listeners. I wouldn't consider it the best book for the topic, but it is one I'm happy to have for those times I need something quick.
For: fall/harvest storytimes.
Possible red flags: references to Halloween and Thanksgiving, though not explicitly stated.
'Who Loves the Fall?' is the only full sentence in this book, followed by a bunch of vocabulary words of things that happen in the Fall. The pictures and 'story' didn't impress me, but I thought it was a great book for learning new words.
Hits just the right note for preschool and very early elementary about Fall. I like the interesting word choices: "winged migrators, hibernators.... bonfire builders, pie-crust fillers..."
