Football season is fast approaching, and as a single dad, I need help. Even though I claim I have a little black book filled with names of women who could step up to the task, none of them will do...not when I see the bond that's forming between Victoria and my daughter. And not when the attraction between Victoria and I continues to grow despite our constant clashing. She offers me one night to get it out of our systems. No strings attached, just a way to smooth over the tension between us.But I can't agree to one night, and with the pressures of the season and my own fears, I'm starting to hope this isn't just a false start.FALSE START is the second book in the VEGAS THE PLAYBOOK series. This series must be read in order.
Lisa Suzanne is an Amazon Top Ten Bestselling author of swoon-worthy superstar heroes, emotional roller coasters, and all the angst. She resides in Arizona with her husband and two kids. When she's not chasing her kids, she can be found working on her latest romance book or watching reruns of Friends.
Jumping in where Fumbled left off and the animosity between Victoria & Travis is reaching levels that I don’t even understand. What I first thought were sparks, seem to be more like full on fires, the kind that burn things down, not light things up! Feel me? I understand that the author is creating tension/push-pull dynamic between them, but honestly, so far, all I’m getting from their dynamic is hostility and antagonism. Their journey hasn’t truly begun yet, but the foundation that is being laid for it is making me a little bit twitchy. I know we still have 3 installments to go, and I am fairly certain the author is going to turn this around, and I’m still loving the overall storyline and how it’s unfolding, so there’s that LOL
Travis & Harper and their journey are still the predominant focus of the story and if I’m being honest, the way that the author laid that foundation in the first installment, it stands to reason it should be. Their relationship/journey is running parallel to anything that might unfold between Victoria & Travis, but they are not the least bit independent of each other. And, because of this, for lack of a better term, interdependency, I’m starting to feel like I’m in for some big dramatics. Let’s hope the dramatics are not dramatized! *sigh*
I still feel really good about this story. Me and this serial are still getting along just fine! :) I like the growth that the characters are showing as individuals. I like that we are seeing some growth between Travis & Victoria, even though it’s more of a 2-steps forward 1-step back kind of growth LOL But I am in it and waiting anxiously for all the metaphorical shoes to fall already so we get to the good stuff!
NARRATION: I am still enjoying the heck out of having Lance Greenfield and Callie Dalton is my ears, so #winning!
Travis and Victoria are really feeling the push and pull of this book. Thankfully the ending of the first book was resolved fairly quickly in this book, so we were able to move on in a much happier light in that aspect.
There is definitely serious chemistry between Travis and Victoria that is threatening to explode at any moment, however, both of them are being stubborn in their own right with moving forward with a relationship. But when they finally give in for one night, you just know that they are end game.
Harper is the best - I loved her relationships with both Travis and Victoria individually and how they are both growing. Travis and Harper's lives were both completely uprooted and they are both doing the best that they can with what they were given.
The ending to book two leaves a lot open for the future! Where will Travis and Victoria go after their one hot night together? But most importantly, is (leaving out characters name here because it's a spoiler) going to be okay?!
This is book two in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series and it picks up right where Fumbled left off. Travis and Harper are still trying to acclimate to their new lives and Victoria is never far from them. The tension between Travis and Victoria is palpable. There is such a fine line between love and hate and these two such make this a very true statement. Whether Travis likes to believe it or not he is changing his ways since his little girl showed up. Now if he only can get Victoria to believe that.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series to release. These books are definitely a one click read.
“Who did this to you?” - Lisa Suzanne, False Start (Vegas Aces: The Playbook, Book 2)
Review 📝 Okay. Okay. Okay. I’m fully invested. See, I wanted to throw a pancake at Victoria’s face in the first half of book 1 for being quite the rotten tomato to Travis. But then I fell for her hard and started dreaming about throwing waffles at Travis instead for being a smelly skunk to her for the rest of the book. So I had mixed feelings. But that didn’t stop me from devouring the whole thing in two hours. Well, book 2 came along and… same 🙈 except now I will decorate those pancakes and waffles, plate them, and top them with whipped cream and syrup because these two deserve the world 🥹😭
{Not you Madeleine. You can go be the worst someplace else. How could you?! Take Owen with you and do let the door 💥 you on your way out}
I dare you to start this series and not consume it in a day. I dare you. Because I just know it will be impossible 😎
Also, that club is going to come back to nip nip his firecracker, isn’t it?! 👀
What’s inside: 🖤sports romance 🏈 🖤single dad 🖤teacher/parent romance 🖤love to h*te you 🖤he falls first 🖤reformed playboy 👀
The queen of cliffhangers is at it again. As Travis learns and grows with his daughter and new arrangement, he hits a few bumps along the road but nothing is going to stop him from being the best dad.
Travis can’t deny the growing tension and connection with a certain reading teacher. The more these two are together the more they can’t keep their hands to themselves and the pages are heating up.
Lisa left us with a oh my god cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Reading this series and all the ones before has been my new addiction and I can’t get enough. My impatient heart needs book the like yesterday.
What to Expect: - Sports Romance (NFL Football) - Enemies to Lovers - Hate to Love - Single Dad - Witty Banter - Teacher x Parent - Learning Disability Rep. - Dual POV - Cliffhanger
False Start is the second book in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series. The story picks up where it left off in the previous book. Feelings are still developing, and a romantic relationship between Travis and Victoria is slowly building. I love the push and pull of their relationship and how hard they try to remain enemies and fight their feelings for each other. Travis and Victoria agree to have one night together with the intention of getting it out of their systems. They agree to no strings attached, but that will not work for people who have feelings they are trying to suppress. After that night, things come to a screeching halt because Victoria struggles to navigate her feelings for Travis and her desire to be there for Harper. Travis and Victoria have amazing chemistry, and things are definitely heating up. Travis is still learning how to be a father to Harper. It is challenging for him to balance setting boundaries and realistic expectations for her while also ensuring she is happy. This new normal is changing Travis for the better, and it's beautiful to see him strive to be the best example possible for Harper. As expected, this story ends with a cliffhanger, and I'm excited to see what happens next.
NARRATION: Callie Dalton and Lance Greenfield continue to give believable and engaging performances as Victoria and Travis. As things heat up between Victoria and Travis, the narrators are flawlessly able to portray the internal struggles each has while they come to terms with their feelings for each other.
Thanks to Lisa Suzanne and Valentine PR for providing a gifted audiobook copy. Opinions expressed are my own.
We pick up where “Fumbled” left off. Travis and Harper are still figuring out their new normal. Victoria stays on the periphery as a friend to Harper. The tension between Travis and Victoria is strong. But Travis is softening, changing since Harper has come into his life. Does Victoria believe he is making changes? Can they deny the chemistry?
I am anxious for the next book, as Ms. Suzanne has once again left us hanging.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Noooo! The chemistry between Victoria and Travis is so high that you could set fireworks with it! But Victoria won’t let Travis in- and Travis isn’t entirely sure he’s ready to do the whole “falling for a girl.”
One kiss. One night.
It’s all they need, then they can hate each other again…right?
Let's just ignore the fact that I thought this was a standalone but was actually the second in a series. It actually wasn't too hard to tell what happened in book 1 because they kept harping on about it because they were angry about it. Moving on....
I'll add this couple to my list of book couples who won't stand the test of time.
The MMC throws a fit every time the FMC rejects him in any small way and gets nasty towards her for it. She knows he's a manwh0re and doesn't want to complicate things since she's his kid's teacher. So he's rude and hurtful towards her every time he's forced to see her, making sure to tell her anything that will hurt her. This includes things like reminding her that he's got a roster of women who would never turn him down, calling her a she-devil when she doesn't give into him like he wants, and telling her that their one kiss from the last book just showed him that she wouldn't even be good enough for a one night stand with him.
AND SHE STILL WANTS HIM AFTER THAT the fckkkkkkk???
Oh and the best friend should be fired. She hears the disgusting things he said to her, and then actually sees him with another woman at a sex club, and STILL tries to push the two of them together while encouraging her to sleep with him.
He never apologizes for the way he is with her either, he just continues to be hot and cold depending on whether or not she seems receptive to him or tries to let him down easy again so her relationship with his daughter isn't affected.
This all goes on and on, and at 62% of the book he's still checking other women out and thinking about fcking them. They're not together yet, but he was literally just thinking about the family life he wanted to have with her one chapter earlier. But he's still butthurt over her rejection and is thinking she could be the one right before he's checking these other women out (eye roll).
"But at the same time, it feels just a little uncomfortable. Like I shouldn’t be flirting back when my interest seems fully vested in someone else."
Yeah, definitely not this far into the book, smdh.
Can we discuss how he's getting new brand sponsorship deals from different companies, and is using his daughter to advertise them (one of them specifically sends stuff for her for him to do this), so now he's extorting the daughter he's known for like three weeks, after she lost both her parents.
85% through the book and they've slept together once, and he's still getting upset with her when she doesn't fall at his feet. She's wary of him treating her like all his past conquests, meanwhile he gives her zero reasons to think he'll be any different with her. In fact, he leans into it the more and more frustrated he gets with her while blaming it all on her for not jumping into his arms.
These two suck together. I'm not reading 4 more damn books about these children.
2.5 The MMC and FMC are constantly saying that they hate each other but then they also can’t deny attraction to each other. She keeps ignoring the possibility of them being in a relationship together. I guess you could call a miscommunication trope. It’s really annoying. This whole book was that trope.
So this couple isn’t even a couple yet at the end of BOOK 2… I can’t do this… the couple isn’t interesting enough… I skimmed parts of this one , bc I just can’t get into them and there is THREE more books… sorry but no
False Start, is book 2 in Vegas Aces: The Playbook series. This book picks up where Travis can't find Harper after noticing her shoes are gone and he starts calling his team mates for help finding her. Victoria is trying to move on after her break-up with Owen who won't give her a treasured baseball.y Lets throw in her sister's Wedding in two months and her sister trying to get Victoria back with Owen. Victorias has strong conflicting feelings toward Travis and her friend Mandy tells her since she is attracted to Travis to go for it. Mandy can see thestrong chemistry look they both give each other but they keep denying it. while trying to avoid the other. Victoria tells Travis about Harper's reading disability and he gets even madder and his hate goes up a bit, but he wonders if he passed it onto Harper since he has a hard time learning the plays in the play book. but he does notice a difference with Harper after Victoria's help .While Travis is in a panic trying to find Harper, Victoria calls Travis but with his hate/ wanting her he almost doesn't answer but he does and she tells him Harper came to her house since Harper likes Victoria, which doesn't sit well with him. Victoria is living with Mandy whose place isn't that far from Travis's apartment. After they keep getting thrown together and him wearing her resistance down with kisses and flirting.Harpers invites her over to dinner and they all have a good timeTravis is facing heading into the next season and needs to set up stable help to care for Harper when he's away.Travis knows he can't keep relying on his teammate's wife to keep Harper when he needs a nanny .He interviews a few nannies , and goes with the hottest one on a trial basis probably not the best decision since on the first night she watches Harper she lets her stay up until midnight. . Travis and Victoria run into each other at a bar Travis gives in to his want of her and kisses her, she decides to have one night with Travis to quench the desire and burning need she has for him . After all he is a one and done kind of guy. Travis doesn't agree to her deal of only one night because after all their kisses he knows their one night won't be enough.Victoria feeling grows for Travis so she avoids him trying to deal with them. Travis uses the nannie a second time so he can go confront Victoria about avoiding him after their night. But he get a call from the nanny who has done the worst thing she which watching his daughter.I have received an ARC to give my honest opinion. Book 3 to come.
False Start is the second book in Lisa Suzanne's Vegas Aces: The Playbook series and is the continuing story of the Vegas Aces wide receiver and the girl he shouldn't want but who is making him question everything. After the scare of Harper running away, it opens Travis's eyes to how much his little girl needs Victoria in her life and even though it's the last thing Travis wants, Harper has had enough loss in her short life that he won't be the reason she loses another person she cares about. Spending time together for Harper is making their attraction to each other harder to ignore with everyday that they spend together but Victoria isn't interested in a guy like Travis, she wants a husband and family one day and Travis isn't the man to give her the life she desperately wants. So she strengthens her defences and her resolve to keep things friendly between them for Harper's sake, she can be around Harper without wanting to jump her dad...can't she? But something unexpected happens, the more time they spend together the more Victoria is seeing the real Travis Woods and she really likes what she sees! So they decide to one night, well Victoria agrees to one night but Travis knows he can't agree to that, that one taste is never going to be enough for him but he cannot miss a chance to be with Victoria. And as expected it's as amazing as Travis thought it would be and reinforces his belief that one night isn't enough, he wants more. But Victoria hasn't had the best luck with dating, she's been burned too many times and Travis isn't the forever kind of guy, so she is determined to keep it to one night. "I've never had to work so hard for a woman before, but when I think about the types of strong feelings she seems to arouse in me...I feel like she'd be worth it. I feel like we could even have the future she wants." Can Travis prove to Victoria he isn't the kind of guy she thinks he is, at least he isn't any more, having Harper in his life has changed him for the better and possibly give him a chance at something more? Read False Start now to find out! I loved False Start, it was so good I read it in one sitting, I could not put it down! I cannot wait for the next books in this incredible series which is quickly becoming my favourite Lisa Suzanne series. I received an arc of False Start and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
Lisa Suzanne's got the magic touch! Her series will keep you guessing and leave you wanting more 📚 #BookAddict #MusRead ! FALSE START Audiobook is PERFORMED BY CALLIE DALTON & LANCE GREENFIELD
Mind. Blown. This story has it all, and the narrators are serving up a performance that will keep you guessing till the very end. Stay tuned for all the angst laughter and oh yeah frustration with these two characters specifically Victoria who is driving me up the wall with her sass and denial!
But as always I’m completely hooked on this author and the way she tells this story of a single dad and the school teacher ! Travis struggles with learning disability and being a new parent while also dealing with his feelings for his daughter teacher, is leaving him with no choice but to keep his eyes on her because he’s already having trouble explaining his emotions towards her.
But . Lord have mercy. This girl Victoria is something else. Her flip flop attitude is enough to give the poor guy a headache. Sure she’s been with a Dumb A$$ that treated her poorly.. all because she wanted something that he would never have given her. So now she is attracted to this man but keep assuming the worst possible things about him. But still she can’t explain why she is so attracted to him.
She offers me one night to get it out of our systems. No strings attached, just a way to smooth over the tension between us. But I can't agree to one night, and with the pressures of the season and my own fears, I'm starting to hope this isn't just a false start.
False Start is the second book in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series, which must be listened to in order.
Go check this one out. This story is not all fluff it does have a message and for that I’m sticking around for, just to see how this all will end. If you’re not into cliffhanger then this might not be the one for you .. but it’s sure is a great story and brain cleanser if you have been reading a lot of Darker stories. Plus it’s a quick and entertaining, that will leave you wanting more until the next time!

My honest thoughts and Ratings for this ALC 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️ 3🌶️🌶️🌶️+5
False Startthe second book in Lisa Suzanne’sVegas Aces: The Playbookseries picks off right where the first bookFumbledended. Jumping right back into the story without any time having passed.
When it came to the narrative there was two main focuses, other than the smaller little subplots on the side that was going on simultaneously. One being Travis and Harper, the continuation of following the two in finding their footing with their relationship and being in each other’s lives. It had its many moments that pulled out a variety of emotions from both of them considering the situations and events they seemed to get up to, face and have to endure. Creating scenes that led to cute, sweet and adorable moments, as well as sad, heartbreaking and upsetting ones too.
The other focus no surprise came from following Travis and Victoria. Lisa truly upped the ante when it came to them and their budding relation. The constant back and forth dance they were doing with always pushing and pulling definitely fanned the flames between them. Given their growing chemistry, the fact that the sparks continued to thrive in getting bigger and brighter made it expected when it eventually turned into a major fireworks display from the explosive steamy moments they shared when they finally caved. And many times at that too, each one Hotter and Spicier than the previous.
Besides all the above, the storyline wasn’t without its ups and downs, since there was drama, that came from between Travis and Victoria. Leading to times of conflict. As well as coming from outside of the two, due to all that was going on in their personal lives in what they were dealing with.
Overall,False Startwas another enjoyable read fromVegas Aces: The Playbook. It definitely has me excited for the next bookFair Catch, which could not come fast enough considering the cliffhanger that Lisa Suzanne left us hanging on.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
“Life changes in a flash, and I can feel myself changing right along with it.”
False Start is the gripping continuation of Travis and Victoria’s story. Their so-called “hate” relationship is heating up with even more delicious tension and snarky banter. At the same time, Travis is learning how to be a single dad to Harper and juggling his newfound responsibilities with his career. Stakes are high and the cliffhanger ending will have you on the edge of your seat for the next installment.
“It’s the way I feel when she looks at me, some inexplicable sense like someone finally gets me when no one has gotten me my entire life.”
I am absolutely loving Travis. He’s snarky and sometimes says the wrong thing, but we can see how big his heart is. He’s slowly changing and we can see the growth he is making over these two books. He’s not used to having such big feelings for anyone and Harper and Victoria are making him realize that he’s not the same person that he used to be.
“I’m scared of what we could be together, and I’m scared we’ll only wind up hurt in the long run.”
Victoria seems to run hot and cold on her feelings. One minute she’s wants to be close to Travis while the next she’s pushing him away with everything she has. She’s afraid to trust that he may not be the man that the media portrays. I liked seeing a bit more vulnerable side to her and hope she eventually will let her guard down to let Travis show her who he really is.
“Our feelings for each other are strong, and not always in a good way.”
The push and pull relationship between Travis and Victoria is absolutely electric. The slow building tension between them seems to leap off the pages and the barbs that they fling at each other only intensifies the attraction between them. I loved the softer moments we see between them in this installment and I cannot wait to see happens next.
Book two False Start by Lisa Suzanne is another winner. Lisa continues to write a compelling story that has the angst, attraction and affection of two people making their starts and stumbles toward each other.
Travis Woods is doing his best to become the father his little girl needs. One major challenge for him is building a strong connection with Harper but being new to the whole duties of fatherhood has him confused and conflicted as to just what's the best things to do. On top of that his continued attraction to Victoria Hartley and hers toward him has him off kilter and their continued heat and animosity for each other brings on stronger feelings between them both. The one thing that is the constant is Harper and Travis and Victoria want to do what's best for this confused little girl.
Victoria is trying to move on after her break-up, and is trying to navigate her life, career and her conflicting feelings toward Travis and maintaining a trusting bond with Harper. If only every time she and Travis are anywhere close to each other they weren't snarling and sniping, but the heated kisses and touches are what they both want and truly need. One night seems to be what she can give to Travis to quench the desire and burning need she has for him which seems like the perfect solution since isn't he a one and done kind of guy? Victoria wants a partner in life to love and build a family with and it doesn't seem like Travis is the one or is he?
Travis is facing heading into the next season and needs to set up stable help to care for Harper when he's away. Harper has her own ideas as to who she trusts and wants to help care for her. Who does Travis turn to make sure his little girl is safe and cared for when he can't be there. Victoria is dealing with a lot, including finding a date for her sister's wedding where Victoria's ex will also be. Victoria's growing relationship with Harper maybe it's possible for her to help with the care Travis' little girl needs. Maybe Travis can help Victoria with all she needs.
False Start is a can't wait to find out where the story goes and leaves readers pining for what comes next!
False Start is the second book in The Vegas Aces: The Playbook series, and it picks up right where the first book left off. Travis is left in a state of panic after the first book when he is trying to locate his missing daughter. Luckily, he finds her quickly, but she is with the woman who drives him crazy, Victoria.
Things get heated between Travis and Victoria with a lot of their animosity and fighting, but they are also struggling with their attraction to each other. I think the characters had more growth in this book and started to actually develop some strong feelings. Victoria was really fighting to help his daughter with her reading issues, and I loved her dynamic with Harper. I think this book also dealt a lot with the relationship between Travis and his daughter, which I think is one of the best things about this story. Travis is turning his life around for his daughter, and he starts to self-reflect about how he has treated women.
I enjoyed this one more than I did the first installment because Victoria didn't come off as bitchy, but she is definitely a prickly heroine. I saw a more vulnerable side to her and I liked that she wasn't completely writing Travis off. She started to see how hard Travis was working to build a relationship with his daughter and I think she started to really soften towards him.
Things end on a cliffhanger again, but that is expected with this novella series. I am interested to listen to the next book and see the fallout.
Audiobook Narration: Callie Dalton and Lance Greenfield still did a great job in bringing these characters to life. Lance Greenfield was perfect as Travis and he did a fantastic job bringing the heat. Callie Dalton was able to show Victoria's feisty and vulnerable sides in this book. It is super quick audiobook, so I read it in one sitting.
Oh Lisa Suzanne what are you doing to me !!! Teasing me with another cliff hanger leaving me wanting more..... This is book 2 and needs to be read or listened to after book 1 Fumbled....The saga continues and starts where fumbled ended. Victoria and Travis are still at war with their feelings for eachother..but with hate being the main focus, they bicker and spar every time they meet. But the attraction is still very very much there, they want eachother. They can't stop thinking about one another, but refuse to admit their feelings remaining to hate one another. The one person they have in common is Travis's daughter Harper, she is still adjusting to her new life with Travis and has a connection with Victoria who is helping her with the problems she has with reading etc. Travis is an NFL Superstar and soon the season would start so he is having problems trying to find someone to take care of Harper while he will be away and busy. Victoria seems to be weaving her way more into his life and finally they give into their chemistry and BOOM !! their connection is explosive..The night is unforgettable. The only trouble is that Victoria insists that it will never happen again, but Travis won't make that promise...Because on that night Travis has an epiphany, that Victoria is his,he wants her for more than one night, and he will prove to her that he is the man for her. Then there is a cliffhanger from hell..lol..and you want book 3 ASAP.. The Narration for this book by Callie Dalton and Lance Greenfield is excellent as always,I loved listening to them perform every character in the book and I can't imagine reading these books myself, because the Audio is just too good to miss. I am eager for book 3 ..I cannot wait to find out how Travis will convince Victoria that they are perfect for eachother. A wonderful story and audiobook...I Loved it. 5 Stars
After reading the first book in this series, Fumbled, I just could not wait for this next chapter in the hot steamy shenanigans of Travis and Victoria. Although I was fortunate enough to receive and arc copy(with no obligations) I just had to also get my own physical paper back because this book Needs to be on my Book Shelves!! I loved it that much !!! Travis and Victoria are both reeling from the life altering circumstances have thrown their way. Victoria now a single woman and Travis now a single parent to an adorable little girl. The Lust between these two is hotter than molten lava!!! like fire and ice, the steam is filling the air. As much as they try to ignore their feelings, its becoming impossible, but with Victoria being his daughters reading coach at school and Travis desperately trying to behave, their banter and antics had me totally captivated!! OMG if they weren't going to combust I WAS!!! Seriously how could she not fall at this mans feet!! This author sure knows how to pull you right into these characters right from the start and it just keeps getting better!! Life, friendships, sorrows you name it, it's all there!! Travis finding his path with parenthood, doing his very best, things start to feel more real for him and at the same time his perseverance with Victoria is paying off. Victoria becoming single and dealing with all her lost dreams and plans, Lisa Suzanne hands us the CLIFF HANGER OF CLIFF HANGERS!!!! OMG what and ending, I'm dying yes Dying for the next book!!! Luckily the wait isn't long, which is something I love about this author, you never have long to wait!! GAHHH If there is such a thing as a perfect hangover this is it!! my heart will continue with the palpitations till the next book!!! Bring it on!!
False Start (Vegas Aces: The Playbook #2) by Lisa Suzanne is part two of a five-part contemporary sports romance serial and ends with a cliffhanger. Told in first person dual POV, this installment includes single-parent and enemies-to-lovers tropes. The story follows the relationship between new single parent, pro football player Travis Woods and reading specialist Victoria Hartley, who works at his daughter’s school.
This book picks up where the previous one ended with Travis frantically searching for Harper. Things aren’t easy as they both struggle to adjust to their new father-daughter dynamic. Much to Travis’s chagrin, Victoria and Harper have an effortless bond. He wants what’s best for his daughter, and it’s clear that she needs Victoria in her life. The growing attraction between Travis and Victoria is getting harder to resist, which is increasingly frustrating because they don't get along, but they can’t avoid each other. What will happen if they give in to temptation? If they bang it out, can they put it behind them and move on?
I enjoyed this second installment of Travis and Victoria’s story. They continue to fight with each other, and the chemistry and sexual tension are combustible. Travis and Harper have their ups and downs, but their father-daughter bond is growing. With football season starting soon, Travis needs to find someone he can trust to help with Harper when he’s away, and none of the nannies he interviewed seem quite right. The tension ramps up, and it ends with a whopper of a cliffie. I can’t wait for book three, Fair Catch.
The Queen of cliffies has us on the edge again!!! The dive back into the Aces world is full of twists, turns and spicy tension...
In False Start, Single Dad Travis is questioning his ability to be a parent, especially a good one, to his daughter Harper who is clearly grieving the loss of her parents, her Mom especially ,while struggling to form a bond with Travis and this new life they are both thrust into. Travis didn't have the best childhood example, but he's trying his best for his daughter. There is such a quiet vulnerability to him. His public persona is at war with the man he's trying to become. One his daughter could be proud of. One he could be proud of too.
Victoria is struggling with her feelings for Travis. She wants to hate him. Keep him at arms length because she's convinced he's all wrong for her. She has her own vulnerabilities and when you put the two of them together, they just can't seem to get on the same page. Her life is in upheaval as well and has her questioning everything left and right. She's afraid of the unknown. But what happens if she starts to drop the wall she's building?
Even with all that stands between them... Whew!!! 🥵 The sexual tension between them needs to be cut with more than just a knife... I'm thinking a Samurai Sword, lol. The constant hate, semi-like, definitely in denial lust on both parts, back to hate is going to make for total combustion in the finest form 🔥 Utterly delicious! Their snarky banter back & forth is the best foreplay! HOT, HOT, HOT!
Can't wait to continue the journey of Travis , Victoria and Harper in Fair Catch!
This is book 2 in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook Series. This is a continuation of the same storyline in book 1. So I don’t want to give to much of the plot away. Travis is a football player for the Vegas Aces and has a well earned reputation as a playboy. Victoria has just ended a 3 year relationship and is a teacher at the school Travis’ daughter attends. Travis and Victoria continue to dance around each other and fight their attraction. They keep finding themselves in the same places which adds to the delicious tension between them. They both are fighting their attraction and that leads to some pretty toxic words being thrown at each other, but again it just adds to that tension.
What I love about this book: *I love that Travis is still finding his footing at being a dad. He is making mistakes but he loves his daughter and really wants what is best for her. *I love that Victoria is always looking out for Harper, her attraction to Harpers dad is really strong, but she doesn’t want to jeopardize her or Travis’ relationship with Harper. *I love the tension between these two. They do start to give into the tension and it is just perfect when they do. *I really like the side characters, Travis has a great support system of friends around him and I love Victorias best friend. I like that we are getting to know them more in this book. *“Who did this to you?” That line in any book just melts me every time! *I love that the whole series is just one story, so we get a little more of their story with each book. I am really loving where this is going so far and I can’t wait to read more.
I was given an eARC copy of this book from WordSmith Publicity for an honest review.
The cliffhanger from book 2 wrapped up fairly quickly once this installment started, but then we were off to the races again. The dynamics between Travis and Harper and Travis and Victoria are sort of mimicking each other in this book - the frustration and the love Travis has for each of them is evident in everything he does and says. He's not always the master of words or his reactions, but he *is* trying. And it is absolutely the sweetest thing. I have a soft spot for playboys who suddenly become single dads, and Travis is perfect. Just perfect. I'm not gonna rule out that he might be the second Ace to be in my Book Boyfriend Hall of Fame.
The push and pull between Travis and Victoria is a delicious slow burn that I am LOVING. They are both so stubborn, yeah, but I love that they push each other's buttons. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I just know their HEA is going to be SO satisfying. Enemies to lovers is a trope I am finding more and more is in my wheelhouse.
As Travis tries to make plans for his and Harper's future, he realizes he can't keep relying on his teammate's wife to keep Harper when he needs a sitter. He gets suggestions for nannies, choosing "the one that was hot" for a trial run. Travis isn't sold on her, but gives her a chance. But could this situation end with devastating consequences?
The cliffhanger at the end of this installment has me panicked! Just another reason to dub Lisa the Queen of Cliffhangers, because this one GOT ME.
Omg you guys this just keeps getting better. If you have read any of this authors books then you know she is so good at leaving us in the edge of our seats and itching for our next hit of the couple in this book it’s Travis and Victoria. So we start the second book right we left off the first book. Which if you are reading you know we were left with Travis left in a parents worst nightmare. He is frantically searching for Harper. I mean talk about heart dropping situation he has his daughter for just two weeks is getting use to having her live with him and then she is missing so scary. I love the way the author gives us all the ways that his and Harpers relationship is and how they both are struggling yet you can tell he loves her so much. It’s so heartbreaking and we get to see the journey they both take. He finally finds her at his least favorite person which we know is Victoria right now. I love the bond Victoria and Harper have but I can see how it can be painful and maddening for Travis. The chemistry between Travis and Victoria is getting harder and harder and that just infuriates him more. This series keeps getting better and better now these two have crossed the line and Victoria feels like her life is crumbling around her and avoiding Travis at all costs. Once again we are left with a very scary of a nightmare for a parent with the phone call Travis gets about Harper. Oh boy I can’t wait for the next book. Super excited and can’t recommend this book enough.
