Storm Testament #2

Storm Testament II, PB (Storm Testament

Rate this book
In 1845 an enterprising Philadelphia publisher decides to send a beautiful female journalist, disguised as a schoolteacher, to the Mormon city of Nauvoo on the Mississippi River. He hopes she will lure the Mormon polygamists out of hiding and get the real story that has evaded male journalists too long. Caroline Logan accepts the assignment with dreams of riches and fame as a best-selling author. Caroline refuses to be distracted from her goal, even when she finds herself falling in love with the daring Dan Storm, former mountain man now guard at the Nauvoo Temple construction site. Caroline rejects her feelings for Dan, even when an unexpected clash between Boggs and Storm results in Caroline and Dan becoming stranded on a deserted Mississippi River island. She refuses to be drawn into a romance that would interfere with her book project. Blackmail from Boggs, a slave revolt in a Mexican gold mine, a vicious dog, a surprise Indian raid, an unexpected death, a midnight buffalo stampede, an unorthodox Mormon bishop, and an early winter storm on the continental divide bring this novel to an unexpected conclusion.

The Storm Testament II by Lee Neilson is a book that keeps you glued to it. This book is about Dan Storm still, and it is a great way to see what life could have been like as a pioneer. It is a fantastic book with good twists and turns, but it is also sometimes predictable. I would probably reread it and the other books in the series that I have read so far. I could change something I would have preferred it if he had been able to break in the wild horse he finds in California, so he can take it back and gift it to Caroline. If I learned anything from this book, it would probably be that you should be careful to not get bit by an eel while catfish noodling. I like the character of Dan and his personality. This is an overall good series so far and I would definitely like to continue the series.

The storm testament by nelson lee and it about a a ute kid who lives in utah. I think dan storm can save red leaf but no istend he drown red leaf in the river. Where they killed the indians but he found himself with ike in the forest and he could have have stay in the beaver den.But it was a harsh death from red leaf because she was blinded.

I didn't like the book because it goes from exiting to boring. I like it because it has a lot of action and adventure and war but the unnecessary part of the book is when dan storm killed red leaf. And the introduction should not be dan storm is in missouri because he is going to his way to spring mountains. This book is worth time spending because it has a lot newer character than the last one but i still like the old character like ike and dan storm. And now he is not living health because he left the beaver dn behind he could have stayed warm if he stay in the beaver den but he is still going to canada with ike and his friends.

Be helpful not racist because Dan storm help ike even thought he was black but he became helpful because he had good aim to shoot animals form less than 500 yards away but he still got a friend and another one is that general washington didn't wanted ike because he black he said that he should be with a slave owner so ike show general washington he is a best shooter.

I continually go back to read this edition over and over again. I love the setting and the adventure of the characters. Caroline is a unique character, yet she follows many love story cliques. She tries to expose the Mormon practice of polygamy through a book and soon finds herself in love with a Mormon himself. This is a thrilling read- and a must have for those who love the wild Indian terrain, and the time of the Utah Pioneers.

The very exciting but poorly written sequel to The Storm Testament. A female journalist goes undercover among the early “Mormons” to get the true story on polygamy, but she gets a lot more than she bargained for. Naturally she falls in love with the hero, but we predicted that.

(Plot) The plot of the book is that the Philadelphia newspaper Sears&Chadwick are looking for a female journalist with good looks and lots of courage, (Caroline Logan), to become a spy in Nauvoo and write a book about the Mormons and their mysterious temple that they are building in Nauvoo, Illinois. The newspaper also wants Caroline Logan to get the inside story on polygamy and if the Mormons really do practice it. The Mormons are in a hurry to complete the temple and they are constantly looking for mobs who are trying to burn it down. They realize that they are going to have to leave their comfortable homes behind in Nauvoo and travel west, possibly to California or Oregon. (Compare and Contrast) The two characters i am going to pick are Dan Storm and Caroline Logan. Compare/ they are both converts, they are both single, they both get stranded on an inhabited Missouri island and start to bond. They both have blond hair and blue eyes, they are both trying to avoid Dick Boggs are multiple reasons, they are both friends with Pat and Sara O'Riley. Contrast/ Dan Storm was born is Canada, Caroline was born in the U.S, Caroline was raised in a big city and Dan was raised on a small farm and also lived with indains for some time. Caroline is a journalist and Dan is not extremely educated in writeing, Dan can live off the land and Caroline can not. (Theme) The theme of the book is that you should make every big decision very carefully because it can change your entire life, and that you should tell other people how you feel. You should be careful on who you offend because it can have big big consenquences in the long run. When you make an enemy you should make sure that you can actually be able to handle that enemy before that enemy "handles you." You should treat everyone with kindness and respect and then others will admire you, and also look to you for guideance. (Like and Dislikes) One of the things that i like about this book is that part of it actually happened and that the information is accurate. One of the things i did not like is how the Mormon battalion only fought a battle with wild bulls and did not actually fight any battles with the Mexicans. I like when Dan Storm is bitten by an eel and Caroline is able to save his life without amputating his hand. I Disliked how some of the characters such as Pat O'Riley for instance, had to die on the trek across the U.S and how Dan Storm did not kill Dick Boggs. In conclusion I liked this book because of the information and action it has in this book and would recommend it if you enjoy history.

Another page turner in the same formula as the first one. This one takes place about 5-10 years after the first one ends. The main character has the ability to get into and escape from more trouble than most people will encounter throughout their whole life. While it bothered me somewhat during the first one, I was able to suspend disbelief until about halfway through this book when I thought it had gotten to the rediculous end of the spectrum.

This book deals with the building of the temple of Nauvoo and the early westward migration of Mormons. This book seemed to be more faith promoting than the first one, though it was reasoned and critical at times. Additionally, the concept of polygamy is a main theme in this book. I appreciated that it was shown in both lights - the institution legitimizing lecherous old men's behavior as well as a loving way to care for widows or women who did not have a husband, father, brother or older son to help them farm, build a house, and so forth.

But, as I mentioned, it is a page turner, and the romance is very sweet, so I didn't dislike the book and in fact, liked it enough to continue reading the series.

The problem in this story is that Caroline Logan a writer for a newspaper is sent to Nauvoo to spy on the Mormons and write a book about polygamy. Another problem is that a man named Dan Storm meets Caroline and falls in love with her. The setting of this book is Nauvoo and the rocky mountains in the 1800's. The Protagonist is Dan Storm and Caroline Logan(who also falls in love with Dan). The Antagonist is Dick Boggs, Dan Storms biggest enemy. What I liked about this book is that it talks about the Mormons before they were about to leave for the Rocky Mountains but it has two perspectives about all of the situations. One quote that I liked from the book is," Caroline I came here to ask you to marry me." I like this because it shows that even though Dan and Caroline are not the same religion(at least at the first)they still love each other. The theme of this book is pretty much don't mess with Dan Storm! This is because every time Dan and Dick Boggs meet Dan does something to Dick to make him loose something like is leg, his ear, and his eye! I would recommend this book to everybody who loves Western, action, romance, and funny!

i liked the story. it seemed, rather than one continuous story, it was chopped up into little stories arranged in chronological order within the story. sometimes it didn't flow very well. sometimes it seemed the author was using this book as a platform to 'teach' history. but with the platform being a historical fiction book, it is hard to really know how valid the history actually is.

other times it seemed like some 'mini-stories' didn't have much to do with the over all story. ti seemed like i was reading a television mini-series (that would be very entertaining to see this story being played out by actors and proper special effects-set in the 1840's, not very many special effects would be necessary, but if done wrong, could ruin the already fragile story.)

the book was good though. i liked how nelson illustrates the action and the conflict. good and easy to read.

I read this book many times when I was a teenager. I read book one to my boys a few weeks ago and gave them the option of having me continue with book two or I could read something else of their choice. They both insisted I continue with book two and now they cannot wait until I check out book three from the library. The book starts out somewhat slow with the story of the beautiful Caroline Logan. However as her story begins to intertwine with Dan Storm and Dick Boggs, Dan's mortal enemy, things begin to heat up. This story gives lots of interesting insight into the Mormon Battalion, polygamy, pioneer struggles, slave usage in the Mexican silver mines, and many other issues about the early saints and frontier life.

In 1845 a beautiful female journalist, disguised as a school teacher, sneaks into the Mormon city of Nauvoo to lure the polygamists out of hiding so the real story on Mormon polygamy can be published to the world. What Caroline Logan doesn't know is that her search for truth will lead her into love, blackmail, Indian raids, buffalo stampedes, and a deadly early winter storm on the Continental Divide in Wyoming.

This was much more enjoyable to read than the first book in the series (probably largely due to the lack of typos-the first book was riddled with them). It also had a good romance mixed in with the historical fiction. The ending was a total shock to me. I'll have to read the next one to see how it plays out.

I really enjoy the Storm Testament books, since I love hearing about Church history through stories. Not sure how accurate some of the stories in this book are but it is enjoyable.

Moral Note: There is a point where they call buffalo dung the "s" word.

One of my favorite books as a kid. It's a great adventure story with just enough about LDS church history to make it less of a guilty pleasure. Yulia and I read this one together on our trip to Russia (2004).

This was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I read it again and was disappointed with it. It was a lot more juvenile than I remembered it. It's still a good book that I would recommend for a fun read.

Second book in the Storm Testament series. This is told from the point of view of Caroline Logan, a young journalist who comes to Nauvoo to find the truth about the Mormons. Along the way she encounters many adventures and meets Dan Storm the subject of Book one.

Again, an okay book to pass the time, but nothing that you should run out to read. Also, I find it incredibly annoying that the "bad guy" just won't die already. Can't we have a new bad guy?
