The Horus Heresy #Anthology

The Imperial Truth

Rate this book
The Emperor decreed long ago that there were no gods upon the Earth or in the sky, and that all of mankind's belief and aspirations should be poured into His vision for the galaxy instead. Upon such unshakeable foundations was the Imperium to be built - except that the Imperial Truth was a lie, and the powers that the Emperor denied had already sunken their claws into many of his sons. With the treachery of Horus now known from the Eastern Fringe to holy Terra itself, how many more of his father's words will be proven false in the days to come?

Hands of the Emperor by Rob Sanders:
Another interesting tale featuring the Legio Custodes, and a bit of conlfict with the Imperial Fists. The story was interesting, and featured some of the Blood Games that I enjoyed in the Tales of Heresy anthology, IIRC. Very fun story that shows the tension between all of the Emperor's "hands". I look forward to seeing more of Sanders work in the future!
4/5

The Phoenician by Nick Kyme:
Oh man, seeing that scene again in over 20 books was awesome! Nothing like Fulgrim at his fall! The short was great, getting to see the death of Ferrus Mannus from the eyes of one of his sons was breathtaking! Great stuff from Nick Kyme!
4/5

By the Lion's Command by Gav Thorpe:
A fun short following Corswain after the Lion departs the main Dark Angels fleet. I didn't know the Lion had done so, so I was a tad bit confused, but I figure he must be going to Ultramar, so he can take place in The Unrememebred Empire. Anyways, the short was good stuff, showing the Dark Angels and their usual heretical selves. I hope we get to see more of them riding on the grey line here in the future. I am actually kind of growing fond of the First!
4/5

The Devine Adoratrice by Graham McNeill:
An awesome short story that plays prequal to Graham McNeill's novel Vengeful Spirit. The story is set one Meloch some years before the Horus Heresy, and the battle of Meloch. Meloch is a Knight world, and Black Library has really taken the whole Knights thing to heart, and I must say: I love it! The story was awesome, the suspense and treachery was great! And the whole family/romance aspect of it was an awesome breath of fresh air as well! I cannot wait to read book 29!
5/5

Lord of the Red Sands by Aaron Dembski-Bowden:
An interesting insight into Angron on Istvaan III, something I have really wanted to see since finishing Galaxy in Flames, Flight of the Eisenstein and Fulgrim.
Angron was more sane then, when compared to Betrayer, and getting to see his real character through the nails was a treat!
5/5

All That Remains by James Swallow:
Another Knight's Errant story, which is always great to see in print, though I don't know where this one falls in line with the others, as our Knight is a former Thousand Son. The story was interesting, told from the perpsective a wounded soldier with a slight gift, and I really hope that we get to see more of all of these Knights in the future!

A collection of short stories, with 3 stand outs. The best being Rob Sanders entry all about Custodians. Graham McNeill, as ever, provides a great story, and James Swallow's effort will make you sit up at the end as you realise. Gav Thorpe adds a Dark Angels shirt in there too, and it's an entertaining action story. All in all a good effort, and better than most of the short collections.

A very nice collection of short stories. The Hands of the Emperor was the best, closely followed by The Phonecian, which manages to put a harrowing story in less than a thousand words.
