“I had been away from the fall of moonlight and the glow of the stars so long I forgot how real I felt beneath their quiet contemplation.”
Victus, a wolf forced to change to the form of a man in the moonlight, lost everything the night he was captured. Caged and beaten, he quickly learned the darkest depths of the human soul. But when blue eyes and a soft smile threatened to steal his heart along with freeing him, he was torn between two worlds.
Victus has to decide if he can trust his fierce instincts to protect the girl, or if he should run away with the wolf pack whose loyalty kept him alive. When a terror appears that threatens to destroy them all, Victus’ decision may be the only thing that can protect those he cares about.
A true love story, Keeper of the Wolves takes love and sacrifice to a new level. Victus faces the ultimate truth: in finding love, one must truly be prepared to put everything on the line in order not to lose it again.

Excellent book, it really pulled on my heart strings. It was beautifully written, about a man who is wolf all the time. Until it becomes a full moon, then becomes a human man for the duration of the full moon, then turns back into the wolf. He is part of a pack of wolves, who are his family and accept him for what he is.
He’s happy with his pack, until the day he’s captured by a heinous, cruel man. A man who is with the circus and puts him on display when he changes, beats and abuses him every chance he gets. The wolf/man is confused by the cruel one. Until the day he is rescued by a beautiful woman and her people. She’s disgusted by the treatment he has endured, the scars and wounds he has. She is kind and compassionate. He is curious, Leary, but trusts her.
The Princess has a brother who, comes to trust the wolf and the wolf trusts them. The wolf begins to be able to control his shift a bit and think more human thoughts.
The way he thinks as a wolf, is written just like I imagine wolves think, (animals in general think) it’s amazing. It’s interesting and intriguing. Then how he starts to have human thoughts, grows stronger when it comes to when he changes.
I feel I’m giving to much away and I don’t want to do that. This is a wonderful, beautifully written book. It evolves a lot from the beginning to the end. It’s happy yet quite sad, moves along at a fast pace. This is a book I’m glad I didn’t miss, I loved it and the way it was written is amazing. I feel like I have insight into the minds of wild wolves.
Although this is not just some ordinary wild wolf, this is a shifter who starts thinking like a man. He risks everything to protect the Prince and Princess, just to be hurt with scorching words. Words that remind him he’s different, he’ll never be the same, that cut him to the quick. He takes off back to his waiting pack, angry and frustrated.
The princess is gentle and kind, she accepts the shifter, they call him keeper. She has cared for his wounds and trusts him wholeheartedly without reservation.
I guess you’ll just have to read this beautifully written book to find out the whole beautiful, sad story, that may bring you to tears. However you’ll enjoy it immensely, a true gem.
OK, she’s not a wolf. And she’s probably not a goddess. But, like a goddess, she will be immortal because her books will live forever. They are that good.
Ms. Alsop gets wolves. She understands how (I believe) they think, act, behave and live. She nailed the entire Silver series and I’m proud to say I own them all.
This book is an interesting take on wolf shifters. Victus was born (??) a wolf and turns into a man at night. He also lives the lifespan of a human. And the story? God made Victus a wolf, but the love of a good woman made him a man. Isn’t that profound? I thought so – that’s why I wrote it.
This book is full of great story telling, emotion, and, oh yeah, action. The last quarter of the book will leave you breathless. First there is a HUGE battle. Then there is a lot of angst. Then there is ANOTHER huge battle. I was exhausted just reading it!
This is an awesome book and I recommend it. I hope (think) this will be a series, because we never find out about Victus’s birth, and a very interesting character is introduced in the last 2 pages. I also hope it will be a series because the book was great and Cheree Alsop is a terrific writer.
"Wolves did not hope. They accepted life as it came and learned to flow with the path of their padding paws. One could not change the past nor predict the future, so to worry or mourn with regret the way things happened was foreign to animals of the wild."
The Keeper of the Wolves is one of the best shifter books I have read. It is written from the point of view of Victus, a wolf forced to change into a man in the moonlight. We meet him where he is captive a cruel man who whips him and places him on display as he changes. Raised by wolves, Victus knows only how to be a wolf.
Koya sees him in his cage and buys him from the Cruel One. Joven her twin brother is not too happy with her but concedes that she may heal him. Koya befriends Victus and through the crises surrounding their kingdom, Victus becomes an integral part in Koyas life. She teaches him to dress and behave as a man and he learns to control the urge to shift, staying in is human form longer and longer.
Victus' pack followed him and keep watch from the forest surrounding the castle. Together the wolves help Joven fight common enemies and save the kingdom.
Through the story, Victus and Koya fall in love and they learn what sacrifice and selflessness mean. The emotions are raw and real and captivate the reader from the start and one becomes wrapped up in their story, feeling the sadness and pain that the characters feel.
I strongly recommend this to any shifter and fantasy reader. I will remember this story for a long time to come. To boot it is a clean book that is suitable for YA readers.
I found this book offered for free on Kindle and I love a good werewolf story, so I figured there was nothing to lose. I was not expecting to be so enamoured by this tale as I was. I am not sure one would be able to properly convey the mental and physical battle of a wolf that is cursed to change nightly into a man, or a man cursed to change into a wolf every sunrise, but Cheree Alsop did an outstanding job detailing the thoughts and nuances of a wolf, combining them with the brilliantly elaborated thoughts and actions of the man that was that wolf! This book is ultimately a love story, though it starts out as a tragic tale. I was immediately developing feelings of sorrow and pity for Victus and hatred and animosity towards the Cruel One who had imprisoned Victus and put him on display for his own personal gain. I was rooting for Victus to escape or be rescued, and found myself sighing in relief that the girl with the beautiful blue eyes held the key to eveything Victus wanted, needed, and deserved. There is much more to the story and many battles to be fought within. Not only for Victus, as he struggles with who or what he is, but for the blue eyed girl and her family as well as the entire Kingdom that relies on her. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys werewolf stories and is looking for a fast-paced, action-packed, unique tale about the discovery of ones self, loyalties, and love. It is definitely a tale I will read more than once.
Keeper of the Wolves by Cheree Alsop follows a young wolf magically and mysteriously transformed into a human by the light of the moon.
Victus was a wolf, not a human. He doesn't know why he suddenly changes into a human under the moon, and he hates that he's been locked in a cage to be jeered at by humans.
When Koya, Heir to a duchy, finds him locked behind bars and beaten, she rescues the wolf-man. But in healing him, she brings out some of his more human characteristics and he stays with her as her hidden bodyguard. After all, no one expects the wolf to understand.
But when Koya and her brother Joven are in danger, Victus has to put everything on the line to save the only family he has left. Falling in love with Koya wasn't what he planned, and he's not even sure he deserves her. But he's going to do whatever it takes to save her.
I liked Victus as a character because I really feel that he is caught between two worlds. Torn by his love of pack and running and hunting as a wolf against his friendship with Joven and Koya and his desire to protect them. He doesn't understand the social implications of what he does, only that his friends are in danger. He tracks like a wolf, and the humans are scared of what they don't understand.
This book began at a slow pace, but picked up later in the middle of the book. The most annoying thing I found in the book was the repetition of how Victus’ voice was rough from not being used for so long. In one of the paragraph’s, it was in two or three sentences. We get it. Anyway, it wasn’t my favorite story by this author, but I have to say it was still pretty good. I enjoyed the growing relationship in it. There are still questions we need answered though. Where did Victus come from? Whatever happened to the “Cruel One”? What happened to the circus that held him captive? Impressive read, but left a few unanswered questions. I still believe it deserves a 4 star rating.
What a beautiful tale of a man that turns to wolf.....not just your typical werewolf story. Though I have a passion for those as well;-) This story spoke to my heart. I smiled, I chuckled, even shed a few tears. The characters are all phenomenal, each of them add something to the story. I admired Victus' courage, strength, commitment to family, Koya her compassion. The story does have its fair share mistakes in grammar and a few spelling errors, but if you allow that to be a reason to turn away from this book.....you're really missing out. Geez....I absolutely love wolves, both those that are real and those imagined!
I love, love, love this author. Her books are always amazing. I have yet to find one that I haven't liked. This one was no different. It was a completely flip-sided take on your typical werewolf story. Victus is a wolf, born into a wolf pack, perhaps? But then one night, he shocks the entire the pack by changing into a human! He is then captured by a cruel, traveling circus and then rescued by Lady Vielslayer. Lovely chaos ensues, etc, etc. Awesome story that actually made me cry and forced me to write a real review as opposed to the short, curt ones that I normally do. Go Cheree Alsop!
Cheree Alsop mastered the mind of a wolf and wrote the most amazing story I've read this year. Once I started I couldn't stop reading, personal needs no longer existed. I turned the last page with tears streaming down my face. Victus' point of view is so refined I felt him change from wolf to man and back again inside my skin. The World of Rala became my home. This is a must read for all romance and fantasy lovers.
"Keeper of the Wolves" has become my favorite of Cheree Alsop's books to date. Ms. Alsop created a beautiful world filled with harsh realities as well as fairytale dreams that made it hard to leave once I read the last page. Victus' life as a wolf forced to become a man is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
Loved it! The world the author created, the characters, the sweet romance, the unique perspectice-- all of it. ♥♥♥♥♥ And I desperately want to read a continuation of this story, but it seems that's not in the works. Regardless, there was so much good book noise made while reading this story, I'd have to it's one of the loveliest stories I've read recently.
Seeing and feeling everything through his own life sent me to another type of life other than the regular ones I always read about. So many of us know the pain of love and loss this really brings it to the forefront. Thank you for the many changes you introduced. I would read this book again, that is something I do not do, so again I thank you.
This book starts with a protagonist that is fascinating and just gets better I enjoyed it and want to read the next book. Please be another book to follow!
I rarely give 5s, but this was a wonderfully fast paced story with an ending that left me feeling happy and hopeful. This author certainly understands her characters, but I doubt if that poor wrist can take much more!!
What a great read. Shifter action and romance with a twist. I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn’t put it down. Definitely recommend to everyone and would love it as a series.
I downloaded Keeper of the Wolves as a free ebook from Amazon. I was entertained with this simple, yet well-paced story. There were a few irritating typos, but the plot kept me glued to the book. Some nice twists made for a few extra tense moments.
fantastic journey to another time and place. Cheree did a great job of letting you feel this place. I loved the reverse werewolf that she described. Fantastic
This was a great book. It is different from most wolf stories. I loved the characters and thought the story was creative. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
The concept of this book was very intriguing. But it was overshadowed by the tedium that followed. This story was entirely too long. Packed full with repetitive musings and abundance of trivial detail. The first half of the story was interesting enough, but fell flat before reaching 50%. It was a struggle to finish it. I skimmed the last half of the book and don't feel like I missed anything.
Reminded me of the 1994 Rudyard Kipling Jungle Book movie told through the perspective of the dire wolves from Game of Thrones complete with their own version of white walkers. It was a different and refreshing take on shifters.
