This collection of 14 shorts is extremely varied – from an epic poem to a child’s experience at the beach to a porn star’s outlook on life. I especially liked ‘One Unread Message’ and ‘The Nail.’ All were good; some were amazing. Extremely well-edited, with gorgeous artwork for each story, this is definitely worth the money. I’ve read full-length novels by a few of the contributors, and have to say those authors are even better at writing longer stories. All in all, a talented group!

A collection of short stories - To be honest i didn't think i liked short stories until i read these and i really really enjoyed reading them. It's such an easy book to read, i read it in a day. I couldn't put it down. I liked some of the stories better than others but i wouldn't say any of them were bad, its just personal taste. I would recommend this book if you don't have a lot of time to read and just want to read a quick story while you have 5 minutes. Having said that i am recommending it to my friends as its such an easy read and every story keeps you hooked. The book in my eyes definitely deserves 5 *****

A collection of fourteen pieces by indie authors which includes short stories, verse and illustrations. If you enjoy science fiction and fantasy then you may find more to interest you in this book than I did. I liked the first story in the collection ‘One Unread Message’ by Jonathan Hill. I thought the main character was well drawn and I sympathised with his situation and I hoped he’d find a positive way out of his problems. I also enjoyed ‘Chloe’ by Ethereal.
‘The Nail’ by Johnny Heisenberg will make anyone working for a big organisation chuckle as well as cringe. Of the rest – most of them left me cold. Yes I can see the authors have talent but the stories didn’t appeal to me. I thought the way the book was packaged - in large format with a black and white illustration for each story – was eye-catching and a bit different from the norm.
Having read other indie authors I know there is some good stuff out there but I don’t think this collection is the best of the best by any means though I don’t think it is meant to be. If you want an idea of what some indie authors are writing then try this as at least you will have a selection of fourteen authors to try but please bear in mind this is not a representative sample.

This collection is genre potpourri. As is often the case with collections of short works, some of the stories are better than others. "The Nail" stands out as the gem. I also enjoy "Joystick".
"The Rembrandt House" reminds me of the Are You Afraid of the Dark episode "The Tale of the Unfinished Painting". I'm not sure if that's a good thing or otherwise.
The images are kind of weird and not particularly aesthetically pleasing, yet they seem somehow appropriate for a book with “indie” in its title. I do, however, like the larger pages and print, as well as the general presentation of the covers. I expected something a little different from this book and was certainly not disappointed in that regard.
As a whole, Indie Bites is a better than okay, but not amazing volume, with something for every short story enthusiast. I'd probably rate it 2.5* if I could.

I enjoyed this book. A great variety of stories - poetry and prose, horror and humour, supernatural and sci-fi, as well as some good old-fashioned tongue-in-cheek scenarios. So definitely something to please everybody. Some of the stories I liked better than others. It is in large format presentation, making it ideal for people with visual impairment (or just tired eyes!).
I like to read short stories between longer books, as I find it helps me to settle into the new mood of the next book, and would have given this book an extra half-star rating if it had included a brief biographical note on each author. All in all, highly recommended.
