Engaged to a man who clearly doesn’t want to commit, at least not to her, she’s dumping him and embarking on solo motherhood.
The child of a single mother herself, she’s turned out just fine, hasn’t she? With a successful career and a home of her own she has everything she needs. She’s not looking for a new life partner just a donor and she’s not expecting anything from him, much less involvement.
But it isn’t as easy as she expected, especially when a dishy doc keeps popping up.
Cringe laugh along with Esme as she discovers life rarely goes to plan, sometimes it’s just so much better.
Great for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Portia MacIntosh or Sophie Ranald.
CJ Morrow writes the kind of fiction she likes to read and since her taste is varied so are her books. She loves a romcom with a guaranteed happy ending, equally she loves a psychological thriller especially where the ending is a plausible shocker.
When she doesn't like what's going on in the world, she writes another one.
Word weaver, lover of things curious, unseen and unexplainable, general wordy person. Always watching and laughing, mostly at herself.
Another excellent story from this always reliable author. Esme breaks up with her cheating fiancé and decides it’s time to have the baby she wants on her own. On the internet she meets a man and his wife who offer to supply what she needs to inseminate herself. The next day, she attends a hen's weekend and meets a great guy, and has a one night fling. Came across this book on Kindle Unlimited and so glad I did. It was a lovely easy read and it felt like I was checking in with a good friend. Would definitely recommend.
Esme Haste wants to be a mother and is determined to do so, even without a partner. I found this to be an absorbing, heartwarming, and often very funny, delve into the trials and tribulations of getting pregnant and the aftermath of solo parenting. The subject matter is deftly handled and there was nothing in here that made me feel squeamish at all, well apart from one particular driveway scene, but you'll have to read it to find out! Overall a lovely book and a well deserved 5 stars.
Independent career woman decides to get pregnant on her own and finds love when she least expects it. A nice light read for when you just really need to read a happy ending.
This was a great read. It was easy and flowing to read. I enjoyed it far more than anything I have read in some time. No sex scenes, no cussing, definitely a plus. I look forward to more books from this author.
An interesting idea for a storyline but didn’t love the way it was written. First person POV felt like one long monologue at times with way to much “telling” of the story. The main character made decisions during the book that were totally incomprehensible compared to the way she was set up at the beginning. She showed very little emotional intelligence and for someone who has worked her way up HR to the position she held is weird. Anyway, probably just me.
Such a great story that kept me turning the pages because I just had to know what was going to happen. Esme is a great character, spiky and with a dry wit, she’s not afraid to go out and get what she wants. The conversation between Esme and her friends is hilarious and I loved the office politics and how events in the office panned out (no spoilers) It’s a very funny book, choosing a potential donor was just one of many hilarious. Funny, romantic and a great story, go and grab your copy now.
I read this book in 2 days! It was impossible to put down. This modern day rom-com follows sassy, independent woman, Esme on her hilarious and heart-warming quest for motherhood. This book is fresh, funny and very relatable to modern day situations. It covers work topics, friendships, family and the frustrations of being a single woman on the wrong side of 40 who desperately wants a family of her own. Esme is fantastic, she's witty, smart and doesn't take any rubbish, especially from her pain in the bum, ex boyfriend. Without giving too much away, there's a hilarious and somewhat sticky moment with a potential donor on Esme's driveway. Of course there's a love interest and in true CJ Morrow fashion, she writes their journey beautifully, wrapped up in the end in a big satisfying hug. Would highly recommend to anyone who doesn't need a man but believes in love.
I was intrigued by the blurb but I can’t say I enjoy the story much. I didn’t really connect with the heroine and I wasn’t a fan of the writing. It felt very surface level.
While I admire the journey and how relatable it can be, I didn’t real feel like I was part of story. I almost DNFed but managed to pull through. Something was missing at some level for me to enjoy this book. I get the title however I would have liked for our MMC to be a bit more present in the story. He almost felt like an afterthought.
I loved this book, very well written with a totally involving story and once I’d started I couldn’t put it down, I had to know how Esme’s life was going to turn out. A lot of it made me laugh out loud (and cringe!) and Esme’s search for a donor was hilarious. The work situation was written perfectly, too, so true to office life. This is a feel good read that will leave you with a warm fuzzy glow and a big smile on your face. Brilliant.
Absolute garbage. Esme find a sperm donor on the internet... gross... no background checks, no checks for STD's.... She gets pregnant, but not before she has a one night stand... So who is the father? Bleh. Im assuming the author does not have children, because the way Esme treats, and speaks about her newborn is revolting. Then there is a misunderstanding... and the way she speaks about the "possible girlfriend" is also disgusting. Dont waste your time. Worst book Iv'e read in ages.

What a lovely book to read. Read it all in a day. So glad I came across this on my kindle for unlimited. Will definitely look for more from same author.
I really dislike the “Star” scale. I generally save 4-5 stars for books that really move me or that I would read again, this however was a well written book that grabbed me from the first few pages but began to bore me a little, maybe with a little too much detail but at the same time it laid the groundwork for the ending. Speaking around 67% of the book really started to take off and I found that it was really worth sticking it out and reading until the end.
